You cannot get HIV from…

Someone who doesn’t have HIV

You can only get HIV from someone who is already infected with HIV.

Touching someone who has HIV

HIV can’t survive outside of the body so you won’t get HIV from touching someone, hugging them or shaking their hand.
Sweat, tears, urine or faeces of someone who has HIV

There is no HIV in an infected person’s sweat, tears, urine or faeces.

Mutual masturbation

Mutual masturbation, fingering and hand-jobs are all safe from HIV. However, if you use intimacy gadgets make sure you use a new condom on them when switching between partners.

Insects

Toilet seats, tables, door handles, cutlery, sharing towels

HIV doesn’t survive on surfaces, so you can’t get HIV from any of these.

Musical instruments

HIV can’t survive on musical instruments. Even if it is an instrument that you play using your mouth, it can’t give you HIV.

Used condoms

HIV can only survive for a really short amount of time outside of the body. Even if the condom had sperm from an HIV-positive person in it, the HIV would be dead.

Kissing

There is such a small amount of HIV in the saliva of an infected person that HIV can’t be passed on from kissing. There is only a risk if you both have large open sores or bleeding gums and blood is exchanged.

MouthAction

As with kissing, the risk of HIV from
MouthAction is so small unless you or your partner have large open sores on the genital area or bleeding gums/sores in your mouth. Always use a condom or dental dam to eliminate the risk.

Tattoos and piercings

There is only a risk if the needle used by the professional has been used in the body of an HIV-infected person and not sterilised afterwards

If I get infected fluid from an HIV-positive person into my body will I definitely get HIV?

No, HIV is not always passed on from an infected person. There are lots of reasons why this is the case. For example, if the HIV-positive person is on treatment it will reduce the amount of HIV in their body meaning it is unlikely to be passed on.

Also, if you get infected blood into your body you may be able to take
post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) , which stops the virus from becoming an infection. However it’s not available everywhere and has to be taken within 72 hours to be effective.5
It’s really important to always take a

Isn’t HIV only a risk for certain groups of people?

Some people think that only certain groups of people can get HIV but they are wrong.

. Why is test results not always constant. They said whatever result you take, its all lies. Why is it that you get tested in a hospital and it reads positive. To clear your doubts, you move to another hospital the following day to get a test and it reads negative

Please Doctors are not God, they make mistakes too. Sometimes they mix up people's blood samples and give results to the wrong owners. Thats why if a hiv test turn positive, it will be carried out again or the patient will be asked to carry out the test in another hospital.

The Arewa people under the aegis of Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, alleged on Sunday in a mail sent to Vanguard that the plan by IPOB sponsors was to humiliate President Buhari, who is billed to speak at UNGA.
In the mail signed by the Spokesman for the CNG, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the northern leaders said that the action was also intended to further provoke the northerners and incite the world against the Nigerian leader and his government.
But the northern group vowed to make appropriate response to the IPOB provocation by taking its position against he antic of the proscribed organization to the UN.
The northern group however hailed the South-East governor’s for proscribing IOPB once it was declared a terrorist group by the Defense Headquarters, saying that they had been vindicated by such declarations.
CNG also lauded the governments of Abia, Rivers and Plateau States for promptly arresting the move by IPOB to set the country on war path and kill innocent Nigerians in the process.
The northern group said, “We must state here that our position that IPOB be proscribed, its activities be declared as acts of terror, and its leaders be accordingly treated in the interest of a greater, peaceful and united Nigeria has to a large extent been vindicated which is also reassuring and encouraging.
“We also wish to state that we have a priviledged information that IPOB sponsors are mobilizing their members in the Diaspora to humiliate our dear President Muhammadu Buhari in New York where he is billed to address the United Nations General Assembly.
“We call on Nigerians to as well overlook this planned unpatriotic action by the IPOB supporters as it is nothing but another antic to provoke reactions.
“We assure all peace loving Nigerians that CNG is also preparing to counter IPOB’ foreign propaganda efforts by compiling relevant facts to be presented personally to the UN soon.
“Finally, we reiterate the call for calm and tolerance as the authorities diligently carry out their duties.”

IPOB in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful said the Nigerian Army lack the constitutional power to declare any group as a terrorist group, saying that it will ignore the declaration by the Army and any other group and continue its agitation for Biafra restoration.
