PoliticsRe: APC is Predictably Useless. See Why by SouthEast(op):
Why APC is useless

1. ''Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), has said that he would not step down for any other''. Why should he. Everyone should slug it out in a primary election to elect the candidate to face PDP. APC should let Buhari contest and fail woefully in the primaries, than preventing him, thereby generating internal crises for itself. Seems like common sense is not common with the APC leadership.

2. ''They have agreed in principle to concede the presidential slot to younger members of the party.'' How has younger Nigerians performed? What has age got to do with anything performance in Nigeria? I do not see any correlation here.

3. ''.........with an earlier understanding''.......“Our earlier thinking was that...''. They are making verbal understanding and ''thinkings''. Why not document your rules in paper so it's clear to everybody? This is a mark of incompetence and disorganization.

4. They are making a Gentleman's agreement? They could not even learn from PDP? Interpretation: they have nothing new to offer and are in fact not different, if not worse, than PDP.

5. “But from the way things are, we are stuck between telling Buhari, outright, not to run and allowing him to continue with some ripple effects coming our way later.” This means they cannot face people and tell them the truth. They are cowards.

6. ''The source confirmed that APC was already working on the possibility of drafting the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, into the new party with a view to presenting him as the party’s candidate in 2015.'' This means they do not have any candidate. They are sourcing a candidate from the same PDP that they are contesting against. The same PDP that has failed the nation? I no fit laff.

7. ''However, former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct CPC, Rotimi Fasakin, said on Tuesday that there was no time Buhari entered into any agreement with anybody not to run as a presidential candidate in 2015.'' They tell themselves lies. Therefore, if they can tell lies amongst themselves, their govt will be fraught with lies to the Nigerian people.

Crisis looms in APC over presidential ticket

on August 08, 2013 / in News 12:25 am / Comments

By Soni Daniel, Regional Editor, North
ABUJA— There were indications, yesterday, that the newly-registered All Progressives Congress, APC, might have run into a political storm over who to field as its presidential candidate in the 2015 election.

Vanguard gathered that while the party is seriously considering a younger but popular northern politician to fly its presidential flag, one of the founding leaders of APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), has said that he would not step down for any other.

APC-toon

The decision by Buhari to contest again in 2015 is said to have unsettled key leaders of the party, who are reported to have agreed in principle to concede the presidential slot to younger members of the party.

A Senator, on the platform of APC, told Vanguard in Abuja that the new party was taken aback by the former Congress for Progressive Change, CPC’s presidential candidate’s decision to jettison a gentleman agreement and run in 2015.

‘Gentleman agreement’

The lawmaker, who is a ranking officer in the National Assembly, told Vanguard that the former leader’s ambition was at variance with an earlier understanding that neither Buhari nor Asiwaju Tinubu, who are regarded as the principal promoters of APC, would run for any elective office in order to give the new party the ‘semblance of a new beginning.’

The lawmaker said: “Our earlier thinking was that the two leaders (Buhari and Tinubu) should provide leadership for the new party and groom an acceptable candidate that will beat Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s Goodluck Jonathan, because from all indications, PDP will present him.

“By our calculations, a younger and vibrant politician should run as our candidate so as to give PDP a good fight.

“But from the way things are, we are stuck between telling Buhari, outright, not to run and allowing him to continue with some ripple effects coming our way later.”

Watching Tambuwal

The source confirmed that APC was already working on the possibility of drafting the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, into the new party with a view to presenting him as the party’s candidate in 2015.

He said some APC leaders were working on Tambuwal because of his age, acceptability across party lines and the fact that he hails from the North-West with the highest voting population in Nigeria.

However, former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct CPC, Rotimi Fasakin, said on Tuesday that there was no time Buhari entered into any agreement with anybody not to run as a presidential candidate in 2015.

Fasakin said: “Nobody can stop the former head of state from testing his popularity at APC’s presidential primary.”

Fasakin described the purported arrangement whereby Buhari and Tinubu were made to jettison whatever ambitions they had as a ruse.

He said: “The said arrangement is mere propaganda to stop Buhari from testing his popularity again in 2015. But I can tell you that it will not work.

“Let me tell you, come 2015, General Buhari will participate at the APC presidential primary and nobody can stop him. I repeat, he will contest and no one can stop him from doing so.”

ogb5: the key word is comparative advantage. Most states can grow all types of crops grown in Nigeria, but some crops does better in some areas than others.

Groundnut can be grown in all states of the country, how many groundnut pyramids did you see in port Harcourt or calabar?

Oil palm can grow in most south and middle belt states but oilpalm was associated with the eastern region because the eastern acidic soils is better for it.

I grew up seeing cocoa farms in my village in the Niger delta, but will not go out today to develop a cocoa farm there, going to the west for that same farm will give me higher yields per hectare for the same effort.

when you say high cocoa produce, you need to compared it to other states in terms of yield per hectare before you can conclude that it is high
You keep harping on ''acidic'' soil as if the world ends there. What is the pH of soils in the SE? Are all soils in all of the SE of similar pH? Can you explain what an acid soil implies for crop production and crop nutrition? Do you know the environmental and human health advantages of having an acidic soil relative to an alkaline soil?

Just in case you are blind. There are 36 States in Nigeria and only 14 are known to produce cocoa commercially. Abia has always been one of them, even before your grandpa was born.

Fourteen of Nigeria’s 36 states grow cocoa: Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Kogi, Kwara, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo and Taraba

RESIDENTS of Soka area, along Ire-Akari Estate, Ibadan, Oyo State, were shocked to hear that one of them, a popular shoe maker in the area, Mr Kazeem Bamidele, also known as Kazzy International Shoe Works, had been arrested with human parts.

Saturday Tribune learnt that Bamidele was arrested on Monday night in connection with alleged murder of a Northerner, said to be an okada rider. The police, it was gathered, led him to his wooden shop on Friday morning and, according to sources, discovered fresh human head and legs of the victim where they were kept inside a bush behind his shop.

Sources further informed Saturday Tribune that Bamidele and his accomplice were busy perpetrating this criminal act on Sunday, around 1.00 a.m, when two vigilance members serving as security officers in the area became suspicious, and asked them why they stayed so late in the night.

According to sources, the vigilance group members saw two people around the bushy path in the area, one holding a knife while the other was holding a gun.

The two vigilance group members were said to have been surprised to see one of the two men aiming his gun at them. The vigilance group members then demanded to know what their mission was in that area at that time of the day.

A source told Saturday Tribune: "On that fateful day, some members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) who are also vigilance men in this area saw the man (Bamidele) with another man in the night. When the OPC men asked them what they were doing in the middle of the night, one of them who was holding a knife told them that he wanted to use it to cut coconut. His partner was holding a gun.

"We were told that the OPC men had to confront them that almost everybody living around the area knew them as security guys; that the suspects themselves could not deny that they knew them. After minutes of conversation, Bamidele and his partner could not hold it again, giving the OPC men opportunity to move close to them. That was what gave them the opportunity to look through where they discovered what they were doing.

"They saw a body of a human being whose head and arms had been cut off. They (Bamidele and accomplice) were still trying to cut something from the victim's throat. The area was littered with blood, and at that point, the OPC men raised an alarm, arrested them and attempted to invite the police."

Police sources confirmed the development and informed Saturday Tribune that the suspects were currently under interrogation.

When Saturday Tribune visited Sanyo Police Station, the case was said to have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan. On getting to the SCID, it was discovered that the suspects were under interrogation, new discoveries having been made on the matter.

"The case is still under investigation, especially when new discoveries were made. There can't be any comment on it now until the completion of the on-going investigation," a police source said.

Meanwhile, some of the residents who spoke with the Saturday Tribune under condition of anonymity said nobody noticed that Bamidele was involved in such act. They said the story was like a rumour to them until Friday morning when some people suspected to be police officers came in company with the victim and fished out fresh human parts where they had been hidden in the bush behind his workshop.

One of them said, "Everybody believed it was a rumour until this morning (Friday) that we saw the fresh human head with the man. That means one must be very careful in this area."

When Saturday Tribune visited Bamidele's shop on Friday morning, one young man who refused to give his name, but was described as his (Bamidele's) apprentice, was seen in the shop.

News Sunday, June 9, 2013

By Dayo Johnson,Akure

IT was double tragedy in Ondo State as a 47-year-old ex-banker, now a taxi driver, Jimoh Lateef, after ten years of marriage, stabbed his former wife, Amudat Oluwafunmilayo, to death and thereafter committed suicide by hanging. The marriage was blessed with five children before things fell apart between the couple who lived at Omoniyi quarters along Agbogbo area of Owo-Benin-Akure expressway.

The wife, 45, was a trader at Iloro market, Akure and hailed from Ijaraisin, Kwara State. The husband hailed from Osogbo, Osun State. A report said the couple had been estranged in the last two years with the husband threatening to kill the wife and then commit suicide. Sources said that their families members, after failing to reconcile them, agreed that they should separate for a while to allow time heal their troubled marriage following alleged battering of the wife by Jimoh.

However, it was learnt that, two weeks ago, the husband went to court for divorce and the court granted his request, but when Oluwafunmilayo went back to the house to pack her belongings, the husband pleaded with her not to leave him. The relationship between husband and wife took a tragic turn on Friday afternoon when one of their children after returning from school met his mum in the pool of her own blood and the body of his father dangling from the ceiling of their apartment. He reportedly raised the alarm which attracted neighbours and the whole community was thrown into confusion.

The Chairman of the Landlord Association of Omoniyi Quarters, Mr Ojo Oluwatayo, with other landlords in the area rushed to the Divisional Police Station in Ijapo to report the matter.

The DPO, SP Jane Mbanefo, and other policemen mobilised to the scene. Sunday Vanguard gathered that the the bodies of the couple have been deposited at the state Specialist Hospital, Akure morgue for autopsy. Meanwhile, the family of the husband has pleaded with the police to release his corpse to them for burial since he was a Muslim.

Speaking with Sunday Vanguard, the uncle of late Jimoh, Baba Labaika, said, "We have reported to the Deji of Akure and we want to bury Jimoh in his house while his ex-wife will be buried elsewhere.

Ondo State police image maker, Wole Ogodo, confirmed the incident. He said a blood stained knife suspected to have been used by the late husband to kill the wife was recovered from the scene of crime.

Nigerian-born jailed in Britain for raping 11-yr-old

A Nigerian-born teenage paedophile was jailed for a minimum of eight years on Friday in Britain for raping an 11-year-old girl while he was on probation.

Opemipo Jaji, 18, from Edmonton, North London, had just left his probation officer when he spotted the child going home from school on a bus before following her and dragging her into a park to subject her to a three-hour rape ordeal.

Mr. Justice Singh at the Old Bailey told Jaji that he had given careful consideration to whether he could impose a lesser sentence than life, for example a determinate sentence combined with an extended term.

"However, in all the circumstances of this case, I do not believe that the public would be adequately protected from you if you were the subject of any sentence other than a life sentence," he said.

The judge told Jaji that the eight-year minimum was not the actual term he would serve, but the minimum before he could be considered for release by the Parole Board.

"The Parole Board will only direct your release on licence if it is satisfied that you are no longer a danger to members of the public," he added.

Jaji had been given an 18-month supervision order six months before for making indecent images of children.

A year earlier, he had sexually assaulted and robbed a 12-year-old schoolgirl on a housing estate.

Later, he was given a 10-month detention and training order which he went on to breach.

He was found guilty of rape following a trial at the Old Bailey in April after he had denied raping the girl in Jubilee Park, Enfield, north London, in November, last year.

The entire party structure is built on corruption - chop make I chop. They have to lose elections before they can be motivated to make changes.

Besides, Soludo couldn't win Anambra, among his own people. What prospects does he have with national elections?
Why should he leave the PDP? Are you that intolerant? You want everyone to belong to ACN? ACN is not corrupt, right? You are a joker. Anambra won't be voting Soludo for president, Nigerians would.

I think you know the answer to that. GEJ was supported mostly out of sympathy for the SS. The MEND guys were never calling for secession, but for resource control, and they had very good reason. The region had suffered decades of neglect while never producing a president for all the money the federation gets from there.

MASSOB, on the other hand, have not articulated any credible reason why they want to secede. All they call for is Biafra, WITHOUT a proven reason why. See the difference?

BH is a relatively new phenomenon. There's no established link to GMB, Tambuwal or any of the pols you hear people mentioning for national office. Besides the North is too big to ignore on a presidential ticket. A credible pol from the region should be on the ticket
What is the connection between MASSOB and Igbo politicians?

While Fashola has his faults (I've often criticized some of his policies myself) he has VISION. Very important. He has a good grasp of what needs to be done. He will be able to fix the big things that will set the economy on a roll. GEJ has neither the vision nor the charisma or know-how to even lead a local government.
Soludo has the vision and the intelligence. Can you support him?

You only just need to view threads here to perceive that. There's still the civil war trust deficit as to the motives of an Igbo man, and only more time practicing democracy will heal that. The continuous talk of Biafra among SEasterners has also not helped to put that episode in our past.
Even in the south-east, Rochas will find it difficult cos outside Imo, people see him as stepping out ahead of his time in national politics. He should conclude two terms and prove himself, then he'll be ready. Take the country by regions: SE, SS, SW, NW, NE, NC. Put Rochas up against Fashola and except for SE and possibly SS, Fashola will do better in the regions, IMO
What brazen cockiness. Before you finally hit the aro mental home, please tell me why the North, who using Boko Haram, has done all they could to destabilize the country should be allowed to rule and why MASSOB who only rants and has not done any tangible thing to achieve their call should not be. Can you mention any notable Igbo politician who supports MASSOB? Tell me why the south-South (GEJ) was allowed to rule after ND militants bombed uncountable oil installations and nearly crippled the economy? And as a caveat I support GEJ 100%.

If gej wins automatic ticket, opposition will fail, the only hope for APC is Rochas president and Fashiola VP.

Atleast SE, SS, SW and MB will vote them. But the not might decline. But they stand a chance with this combination.
SS will vote for no one other than GEJ. SW will not support anyone from SE. Rochas has no serious base. Let GEJ simply finish his 2nd term. He is not the best but certainly not the worst we have had. FASHOLA might not do well as a president; he has been draconian and has even deported Nigerians from Lagos. Lagos is only 1/36 of Nigeria; too complex for Fasola to handle.

abia? Why not concentrate on things you have better comparative advantage in? Cocoa does well in the basic soil in the west or in the cross river basin. Not in the acidic soils in abia or rivers state.

They should concentrate on oil palm that the eastern soils can support very well.
