ProgrammingRe: Nigerian, Kehinde Adeyemi, Among Best Global IT Developers by southloop: 5:11pm On Jan 08, 2010
Firstly, congratulations to Kehinde for the recognition.

However, i'm with Kobojunkie on this one. While we should celebrate EVERY Nigerian achievement we have to be careful that we are celebrating FACT.

Kehinde did fantastic in this competition. That doesn't equate to record breaking or even being "one of the best IT developers". If you think it does i suggest you mention this to anyone outside of Nigeria and see how quickly they burst into laughter.

What is even worse is that the more you put this up as one of the "great things" Nigerians are doing, the more you give people the impression that Nigerians aren't doing a whole lot.

It's like saying "see, we Nigerians know how to tie our shoe laces. The world should now start respecting us"
ProgrammingRe: Which Oop Language Is Versatile by southloop: 3:43pm On Dec 15, 2009
Java is supposedly platform independent. However therein lies it's limitations with regards to speed.

C++ rocks. There are some good cross compilers however issues abound there too.

bottom line. it depends on what your projects needs. If speed is really important then C++ is your best bet. ditto for security. We developed the backend of owode.com in C++ because of the above reasons.

Easy maintenance? go with Java.
ProgrammingRe: Programmers I Need Ur Help by southloop: 3:32pm On Dec 15, 2009
like the others have said. practice, practice, practice.

however start simple. forget GUI or web apps. do simple command line stuff.
"Hello World" is the classic beginners app.

Once you get that working then write an application that prompts for the user's name
and print "Hello [username]".

Next write the "Hello world/username" output to a file instead of to Standard output.

Next make it object oriented. create a HelloWorld class that has several methods to print different things
e.g. "Hello world", "Goodbye world", "Look Ma!, I'm now a programmer!"

When you become good and start developing websites then use owode.com for the payment system. That's where i work. It'll be your way of saying thank you!  grin

good luck
