Mary95: I look at lands before acquiring. If the area is fertile,I will know . I would like to do both maize and cassava at a go. Yes we all know by looking at the land. But the lands in Ogbomoso in Oyo state completely ruined this sensing for me. I rented 50 acres, low and behold it was good. But when it was season for farming, the land became rain water meet rain water. I embarked on 20 acres, i didnt take out 50 Naira from that project. I left in tears and tatters |

Also,I hope a formal agreement was signed ? Yearly rentals. No need for agreements. Even renting new spaces within two weeks |

Mary95: Oh ,okay. I would prefer buying outrightly. I will use that funds to farm ten acres amd make ten times what the produce on pwned land would give me. I checked the maths before taking off. Why do i need to buy land when i have access to over 500 acres leasable lands ? |
Agriculture › Re: My Maize Farm - Six Acres by Sp33i(op): 8:54am On Jun 06, 2025 |
Mary95: Sorry, I just wanted to clarify. You rented the land and not buying it outrightly ? I rented the lands |

Mary95: Exactly my calculations. In any farming business you do ba,just pray to God and ask for mercy. It’s believe that we farmers will always get *3 of what we invested but in reality, the postulations are not always true. But let put our hope in God.
See,I had to plant 🫘 and cassava ,making it multi cropping and it’s paying me off. I am harvesting the 🫘 now, maize is matured already but I am leaving it to dry off. After the,the cassava will carry on and a stand of cassava sells at #300. That is why i continue setting up farms nonstop. To overcome the expenses. The daily bike fare is crazy. Spending averagely 8-10k on a single day on logistics is not a joke Personal feeding expenses is there as well. I had no funds to pay labour yesterday, i was almost beaten up because they too need money as there are no jons in the rurals |

Mary95: He has spent close to a million in that farm, take it or leave it. Spent well over 1.5 Mil. Livelihood. Some days i pay up to 25-30k on labour and expenses. The logistics and cost of operations it eh problem running businesses now. On some days, i spend 10k on bike alone |

Yankee101: Glyphosphate causes cancer Thanks for the info. I will loook into this information and look into alternatives. But 90% of maize farmed in Nigeria is farmed with Glyphosate. It is also depicted that the chemicals must be used 60 days before harvest of the crops so whatever chemical residue is in the plant is removed by the time of harvest. We farmers make use of these chemicals atleast 70-90 days before harvest asper manufacturers recommendations |
