Weed control is everything in Maize cultivation. Weeds can eat up to 40% pf crop yield if they are not well managed in the first 8 weeks of crop growth. To ensure a weed-free farm, i utilized a combination of Lagon and Glyphosate. Lagon to seal weeds seed and inhibit weed seeds growth for weeks while Glyphosate in the herbicides mixture kills weeds that escaped tractorization. ***I personally supervised my labourers herbicides application to avoid application mistakes that may lead to weed emergence along the way. In my style of herbicides application, i always mix a fixed ratio of liquid and inform them they must continue to spray until the liquid is finished. This way there is no excuse of them just walking across the farms and not doing the actual work. Think smart farmers !

Always supervise farmers when planting if you want to achieve your targeted crop population. For my case, I stood with the farmers supervising. We began planting around 08.15 am. Rain interrupted our planting as it rained heavily over an hour period. We continued with the planting till 7.10pm. Took us ten hours to plant three acres ( I chose to split the farm into two and cultivated half on each day of work )

My.plan is to.produceat least 90 bags of maize.over my six acres area on this project. Follow me patiently. |
**Maize population plays an important role in the yield. This is why it is crucial to plant the right quantity of seeds and not just quality. In my case, i planted three seeds per hole and aimed to cultivate between 11,000 and 12,000 seeds. This gives room for mortality of 5-15%. If 5-15% of the seeds do not grow, it means I end up getting 10,000 successfully grown plants per acre. For my six acreage area, i had 72,000 seeds cultivated. ***Let's do a quick maths. If u have let's say 10,000 stands of maize on your farm, and a maize cob weigh 350g after good Agronomic practice. After shelling it can reduce to 250g. *If u convert to kg, u have 0.25kg. *Multiply by 10,000 stands..... 2500kg - 2.5 Tons per acre area *100kg makes a bag... So u can get 25 bags of 100kg ****Agriculture is very hard to start, but if you start the right way you will become UNSTOPPABLE*** Stop procrastinating and kick start your agricultural projects today ! |
*improving productivity is a major driver as far as attaining food securty in Nigeria is concerned. To achieve improvement in maize productivity two tenets are important. (1) Always make use of the right seed variety. The right seed variety because of climate change is drought resistance seeds. (2) Always adhere to good Agronomic practices. ** The purpose of this research is to check the yield potential of Seedco SC649 |
My next step is securing a tractor. I paid 35,000 Naira to have an acre ploughed with beg, they say 40k is their union price. This same area of land can give me 10,000 fresh Maize cobs or 2.4/2.5 Tons dried maize grains. Though in my project, I am aiming to produce dried maize grains only.

After examining the land, the next thing to do is use GPS to carry out measurements. Precision is everything in crop cultivation. This is because you do not want to make rookie mistakes. An example of this is when a land is an acre, but the land guys charge you for three acres and you also pay for tractor operations for three acres, instead of an acre. You have to be smart so you are assured of quality results in your projects... |
I have excess SeedCo seeds I wish to sell. I am willing to sell at discounted price because I want to make sure that they go. The company sells at 4,500 per kg for SC419, I am willing to sell at 4,000 per kg. The company sells at 5,000 per kg for SC649, I am willing to sell at 4,500 per kg. Contact me for quick biz. Abeokuta buyers preferred |
Follow me on this journey as I am to inspire youths to take up not just agriculture but anything productive and run with it. First : The first step in setting up a farm is to inspect the land, examine that it can be worked upon by a tractor because not all lands can be ploughed with a tractor because often times, lands can contain rocks, tree stumps that makes them unsuitable for tractor to operate on them. You need to make sure of the suitability of your land. Once this is confirmed, you may go ahead and make payment. In my case, I paid 15,000 Naira per acre. My six acres cost me 90,000 Naira altogether |
