Dr. Ernest Nwoke can't just stop being stupid.
His life has been plagued with emotional trauma.
There is no redemption for him,
That is his curse from the multiple heart breaks young girls in Ekpoma & Benin have suffered in his hands.

In every level & department in college of medicine, he had a girl friend.

A very bad shooter!

Always looking sad & depressed.

His first marriage was a total mishap.

I just pity the useless girl that said yes to his proposal.

Crime / How Nigeria Can Overcome Boko Haram Insurgency – Researchers Reveals by spanconnect2: 4:13pm On Jul 02, 2017
Some Nigerian researchers have called for more community participation if Boko Haram is to be defeated.

The researchers stated this while presenting a book titled ‘Community Resilience to Boko Haram Insurgency’ to the public on June 30.

The book, authored by Princess Hamman-Obels, was targeted at placing insurgency affected communities at the centre of interest. It was presented in Abuja by Kole Shettima, Director, Africa Office, MacArthur Foundation.

The lead research coordinator of the book, Jibrin Ibrahim, suggested key steps to tackling the insurgency in Nigeria.

The don, a civil society activist, said there was need to understand what has sustained the Boko Haram insurgency and how local communities can play a role in battling the insurgency.

“The use of security agencies to quell the insurgency will be a very important step, (but) is in itself not sufficient to solve it,” he said.

“This is because at the end of the day what we know is that this insurgency emanated from the community and it is the community that has both the responsibility but also and above all the capacity to end it,” he added.

Mr. Ibrahim also explained the reasons for the research that led to the book.

“I think the first important issue that led us the carry out this research was the seriousness of the insurgency itself,” he said. “We have not had such devastation in Nigeria since the civil war of 1967-1970.

“Over 20,000 people have been killed, at the height of the insurgency, over three million people have been displaced from their homes, their homes have been destroyed, their means of livelihoods taken away from them,” he said.

The researcher also highlighted some of the major findings of the research.

“The Borno State 2010 education census revealed that only 23 per cent of children of primary school age were going to primary school. This meant over 70 per cent of the children of primary school age were not going to school and that was already the lowest in the country.

“One of the things that struck us at the beginning of the research process was to try to understand the geography of what was going on. There was high level of insurgency attacks in certain areas and in certain communities than in other areas,” Mr. Ibrahim said.

The professor added that the researchers also observed different levels of attacks across the north-east and north-west states.

“We were interested from a research point of view, trying to understand the differential that explained why there were so much variation in what was going on. We found for example that Jigawa State had very low level of insurgency attacks while to its east in Yobe, there was high level and to its west in Kano, there was relatively high level.

“So why was it there were so little attacks in Jigawa and much more in the states surrounding it; and we thought it was interesting to follow the lead to see whether there was an objective to explain that differential”.

“The narratives of the Boko Haram insurgency have really been about the insurgents creating mayhem and the security forces, trying to contain that mayhem and in the process creating some mayhem of their own. There have been very little narratives about the people themselves. What is their narrative, how do they understand what happened to them and what most importantly were they doing or not doing in terms of the crisis they find themselves in?” Mr. Ibrahim said.

In his remark, Y.Z. Ya’u, the Executive Director, Centre for Information Technology and Development, CITAD, reiterated the relevance of the research to contemporary Nigeria.

“As illustrated, Nigeria is facing so many challenges: cattle rustling, community clashes, and ethno-religious complains, and so on.

“So, in general, the resilience of Nigerians as a community, is actually very weak and therefore what can we do to enhance the resilience of Nigeria as a community.

“But of course, we know Nigeria is a collection of communities, so our focus is what we can do to communities to enhance their own resilience,” Mr. Ya’u said.

Mr. Ya’u said no single community in Nigeria has zero resilience and no single community is excellently resilient.

He said resilience can be dormant in communities that are weak or be highly present in communities that are strong.

“The logic of our study was to study communities that are either strong in terms of resilience and those that are extremely weak,” he added.

Celebrities / If You Want To Help The Less Privileged, No Need Announcing It – Patoranking by spanconnect2: 4:06pm On Jul 02, 2017
One act who could care less about the noise being made by celebrities for their charitable organizations is Patoranking.

The God Over Everything crooner, who has managed to steer clear controversies, in a new interview with Sunday Scoop, talked about his background, poverty and why he hustles so hard.

On his background, Patoranking , revealed he has seen and lived in poverty and thus has vowed never to return to such state. According to him, his background was less than comfortable and whenever he remembers this and his present state, it further fuels him to work harder as he is scared of being poor again.

“Whenever I remember where I’m coming from, I am inspired to hustle harder. I grew up in poverty and I don’t ever want to go back to that again. If you listen to my songs, you would notice that I’m always trying to motivate people that there is no one that cannot be successful. Once you have something to offer and you work hard, the world is yours for the taking.”
On what he does to help others in the ghetto, he said:

“I don’t have to announce whatever help I render to people. As far as I’m concerned, it is between me and God. I help the people I can in my own little way because I believe I am blessed by God so as to be a blessing to others as well.”

Portugal, who were without Cristiano Ronaldo, claimed the bronze medal at the FIFA Confederations Cup after coming from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Mexico in extra-time.

The clash started at a high tempo with both nations signalling their intent get goals in the early stages.

Portugal were then awarded a penalty in the 15th minute when Andre Silva was brought down by Rafael Marquez. The striker stepped up but saw his spot-kick saved by Ochoa.

Mexico went close to breaking the deadlock in the 30th minute, but Rui Patricio produced a superb save to deny Javier Hernandez from 12-yards out.

That proved to be the final chance of the half, as the sides went into the halftime break goalless.

The Mexicans eventually broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute when Javier Hernandez’s cross deflected into the back of the net, 0-1.

Portugal opted for a change in he 69th minute as Luis Nani made way for Ricardo Quaresma as they pushed for a winning goal.

Family / Meet The 65-year-old Ugandan Man With 176 Children, 90 Grandchildren, 13 Wives, by spanconnect2: 6:35am On Jun 27, 2017
If you are looking for the 'most fruitful' man in Africa, you would have to travel all the way down to Uganda to meet 65-year- old Mustafa Magambo Mutone. He's a proud father of 176 children, 90 grandchildren and has 13 wives and 10 girlfriends.
According to Mustafa, he's having financial challenges to train all of them and wants the Government to support some of his 176 children.

“I have tried to feed my 13 wives and over 170 children and it is not easy. I request the Government to at least sponsor 30 of my children in secondary schools and tertiary institutions,” Mutone, a businessman and a resident of Kyaterekera trading centre in Kagadi district, said.

He added that he has over 40 children in primary school and has plans to establish his own nursery and primary school in Kyaterekera sub-county. He says he has about 10 children in the universities (Makerere, Mbarara and Kyambogo), most of them on private sponsorship. Mutone has five pairs of twins among his children. His children will hit the 180 mark by the end of the year because six of his wives are pregnant.

Mutone, a Mubwisi by tribe, is the chairman of Kyaterekera A village. He was born on January 1, 1952 in Kiryabwenju, Nyamiti parish, Muhorro town council in Kagadi district. His first marriage was in 1968 at 16 years of age.

In an interview with Ugandan's New Vision, he explained that he is still strong enough to marry more wives and bear more children, since he does not drink alcohol, smoke or take sugar.

Mutone, who deals in produce (beans, maize and coffee), also owns a wholesale shop at Kyaterekera trading centre. He says some of his wives are working as midwives at Mulago Hospital and Mbarara Hospital and in Rwanda.

"Two of my wives who gave birth to twins are in Kampala and Isingiro, working as midwives, while another two — Haniffer Kabasomi and Jane Tuhaise — work as nurses. My youngest wife is 25, and the eldest is 50, but I had about 10 girlfriends before I married officially and they all delivered the same year,” Mutone said.

According to him, his first born child is 49 years old, while the youngest are four-year-old twins. He further noted that he has over 90 grandchildren. The grey-haired Mutone, said he has a special book where he records every child born whether within the country or outside, because he has some wives in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi.

He said one of the challenges he faces is the long distance as some of his women live in different parts of the country.

‘’I receive about 10 calls every day from different wives who want attention but I cannot be everywhere. I have seven wives in Kagadi alone,” he said. “I do not have any challenge of supporting them because some of them support themselves since they work,” Mutone said.

Madina Tibasiima, 45, one of his wives who has nine children, said she has not faced any problems with a big family because most of her children are working as soldiers, civil servants, and nurses. She, however, said her younger children need school fees; some are in primary school and others in secondary school.

One of Mutone’s sons, Kyaise Suwedi, 40, the Gombolola internal security officer of Kyaterekera, said his monthly salary caters for some of his brothers’ education.

“We were groomed by our father to be responsible, have good morals and work hard. The only challenge is the big number of dependants of other wives who have children aged between four and 13 years,’’ Kyaise said.

While another son, Muhamad Byarufu, aged 45, said he owns a business and helps pay school fees of some of his younger brothers.

"We have a programme of starting up a school with our father, since some of my brothers are teachers. We will not find a problem hiring teachers and having pupils to teach. Some of my young brothers are in primary elsewhere and some children of our stepmothers are of school-going age. They can fill the classes,’’ he said.

Two months ago, we also reported about a Ugandan lady identified as Mariam Nabatanzi Babirye who has 38 children, most of them twins, triplets and quadruplets and she gave birth to all of them at home.

When you talk about 'mother of all nations', one living person that can perfectly fit that description will be 37-year-old Mariam Nabatanzi Babirye. At only 37, Mariam has become quite famous because of the number of children she gave birth to all by herself.

She has 38 children, most of them twins, triplets and quadruplets and she gave birth to all of them at home, naturally, except for the last who was born in a hospital.
The woman, who lives in Kambiri village, Mukono District in Uganda, was married off without her consent or knowledge at the age of 12 to a 40-year-old man. That was in 1993. In 1994, when she was 14, she had her first set of twins then two years later, she gave birth to triplets and a year and seven months after that added a set of quadruplets.

In all, Mariam's children consist of six sets of twins, four sets of triplets, three sets of quadruplets and a number of single births. 10 of her kids are girls while 28 are boys. The oldest is 23-years-old while the youngest is 4-months-old.

Narrating to Uganda's Daily Monitor what it was like to be married off so early, Mariam revealed that she escaped death in 1993 and soon after, she was married off to a husband who was polygamous and abusive.

"I did not know I was being married off. People came home and brought things for my father. When time came for them to leave, I thought I was escorting my aunt but when I got there, she gave me away to the man."

When Mariam began to have multiple births, she did not see anything strange in it because her father had 45 children with different women and these kids all came in quintuplets, quadruples, triplets and twins.

By Mariam's sixth preganacy, she already had 18 children and wanted to stop, so, she visited a hospital but the doctors said they could not help her since she had a high ovary count which would eventually kill her if she stopped having kids. She tried again when she had 23 children and she was told the same thing; that she would die if she tries to stop having kids.

"I was advised to keep producing since putting this on hold would mean death. I tried using the Inter Uterine Device (IUD) but I got sick and vomited a lot, to the point of near death. I went into a coma for a month," she explains.

It was only after the birth of her 38th child, who is currently four-month-old, that the doctor cut her uterus. That was her only delivery in a hospital ever since she started giving birth.

“I asked the doctor to stop me from more births and he said he had ‘cut my uterus from inside’. This was my only Cesarean delivery because I was still weak from the sickness I suffered when I tried to use an IUD," she said.

One of her first born twins has a certificate in nursing and the other in building although they have not found jobs yet. Two of her other children are in Senior Six, three in Senior Five, Four in Primary Seven, and four in Senior One. The rest are between baby class and Primary Six.

On feeding her children she said:

"everything is solely from my pocket; I buy 10kg of maize flour a day, four kilogrammes of sugar a day and three bars of soap. I need to have Shs100, 000 at the least on a daily basis to have the family catered for. God has been good to me for they have never gone a day without a meal."

Mariam makes her money by administering local herbs for various illnesses - which she says she has done since she was a young girl. She also does casual work such as plaiting hair, decorating at events, and styling brides. She is in the process of gathering money to connect piped water she can sell since water is a big problem in the area, with a jerry can costing Shs800.

"I do not despise any job as long as it brings in some money. Feeling sorry for myself is something I dropped because I know these children are a gift from God that I have to treasure, so I try my level best to fend for them."

Nairaland / General / South Africa Bans Sale Of Live Hens In The Country by spanconnect2: 6:21am On Jun 27, 2017
South Africa has banned the sale of live hens countrywide in a bid to control an outbreak of highly contagious H5N8 bird flu which was confirmed at a farm in Mpumalanga, the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries announced Sunday.

‘’We have placed a general ban on the sale of live hens across the country until further notice,’’ department spokesperson Bomikazi Molapo said.

This was after a highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N8 was confirmed in a broiler breeder site in Mpumalanga on Thursday, June 22.

HPAI is a rapidly spreading viral disease that can infect many types of birds and it is highly contagious.

“It exists naturally in many birds and can be transmitted by coming into contact with infected animals or through ingestion of infected food or water,’’ the department explained.

The farm, which has not been named yet, has been quarantined and the affected animals have been already been culled there.

Hens are female chickens and those in broiler breeder sites are usually spent after a year, and are sold to small businesses who then sell them on at markets in towns and villages.

The department is tracing the movement of all poultry in and out of the farm in order to establish the source of the Influenza.

Crime / Shocking!!! See How Suspected Herdsmen R’ape, Behead Woman In Edo State by spanconnect2: 6:20pm On Jun 22, 2017
The University town of Ekpoma, the administrative headquarters of Esan West Local Government Area, Edo State was Wednesday thrown into confusion as women took to the streets to protest the murder of a woman identified as Mrs. Margaret Udiamehi, by suspected Fulani herdsmen, who allegedly beheaded her.

It was gathered that the headless body of the deceased was found in the bush in the early hours of the day, while the head was later discovered by police operatives at a different location.

The angry women chanted solidarity sounds as they marched through major streets of the town as they chant solidarity songs over the gruesome murdered of the deceased in her farm on Tuesday by the suspected herdsmen.

They later took their protest to the palace of the traditional ruler of Ekpoma and the Divisional Police Headquarters to register their grievance over the incident.

Citing the example of a woman who narrowly escaped death from the hands of the herdsmen couple of days ago, the protesters said they could no longer fold their arms and watch foreigners come into their land and destroy their crops, rape and kill them.

They therefore urged all concerned authorities to give them adequate protection, noting that necessary steps should be taken to curb the excesses of the hoodlums to enable them have peace.

Speaking on the incident, daughter of the deceased who was still in shock, said when her mother left for farm in the early morning and did not return home, the youths and other women became apprehensive as they embarked on a thorough search throughout the night before her body was discovered at about 2:00 am, with her head severed off.

The Divisional Police Officer of Ekpoma Division, SP Franklin Akanonu, who confirmed the killing of the woman, said they were almost giving up in the search of her head before it was finally discovered at a different location from where the body was discovered.

He appealed to the protesters to collaborate with the Division to fish out those behind the evil act through provision of useful information.

Meanwhile, policemen were seen giving protection to some members of Fulani who gathered in their camp in Ujuelen as the Divisional Police Officer, DPO explained that the action was necessary to prevent further destruction of lives and properties.

So here’s my list on the places a man should never touch on a woman’s body along with the worst times to do it.

This is so because I’m not saying these places should never be touched, I’m saying they shouldn’t be touched in certain scenarios. Men, you need to be astute. I know, it’s hard sometimes. But here are they

1. The Tip when other things are going on with our body. Avoid Tip pinching when they are buubs feeding or about to have our periods. It just hurts … in the bad way.

2. The stomach after a large meal. We really want to have a flat tummy, but it’s nearly impossible most times, particularly after we just ate a cheeseburger with sweet potato French fries and had much drink. Or during a premenstrual bloat. Or when we eat anything with beans.

3. The womanliness when it needs a bath. If you start going downtown and she pulls you back up, this is your red flag that she’s not feeling so fresh. Respect it because your attempt will be futile. She probably won’t enjoy it while worrying about her lady odor anyway.

Education / The Introduction Of Computer Based Test For Semester Examinations To Aau Ekpoma. by spanconnect2: 4:02pm On Jun 02, 2017
In what at first was perceived as a mere pronouncement eventually had it’s breakthrough despite the unwelcoming remarks such as “poor networking, non availability of computers to serve every student, et cetera that greeted the introduction of Computer Based Test (CBT) to the first state owned university in the country.

Prof. Ignatius Onimawo upon his appointment as Vice Chancellor Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma had promised to make the university one of the top 10 best universities in the country, and also digitize all of its operations to a world class level by 2020 making it the best state owned institution in the country.
Owing to this promise and a full commitment to carry on the vision, the institution was able to carry out a successful Student Union Government elections via the internet.

The first semester examinations were conducted specifically for the 100 and 200 level students using the CBT method. As the VC promised that other levels would be involved in the CBT process during the next examinations.

The First ever CBT exams in Ambrose Alli University had it’s own irregularities which ranged from “network problems loading the next question, students being logged out before the expiration of their time, exams been postponed” and lots more. Of which the current SUG administration ably led by Comrade Cletus Oribhabor did everything within their power to ensure the success of the exams and also receiving complaints from students and swiftly attending to them.

But these observed lapses are expected to be worked on before the commencement of the second semester examinations.

These goes a long way to tell that the promise and vision of Prof. Onimawo in making AAU Ekpoma a world class institution is possible.
