Hey, how are you? Fine i guess, it is the end of another day where you had the luxury of three (or even more) square meals, another day where you woke up under a roof you could call your own (whether a rented home or otherwise), another day where you went from that home to wherever you usually go about your daily activities (school, office, etc.), another day where you saw the faces you love and kissed your wife and spoke to your mother on phone and spent time with your children and played with your siblings and laughed with your colleagues at work and smiled to that aboki down the road that shined your shoes and did 'keep the change' for the gas station attendant when she fueled your car at N145/litre, another day where you had a form of electricity (gen or NEPA) to power the device you're reading these words on, another day where you'll retire to that soft mattress of yours and another day you'll sleep soundly knowing you'll wake up by the grace of God tomorrow, lol, sweet right? Dear friend, you're living a lie, one day soon you may have to struggle to manage even a meal daily, one day soon you may wake up in an IDP camp, one day soon you may not have a job to go to, one day soon you may not know the whereabouts of those you love, much less if they're alive or not, one day soon you might have to be remembering purchasing fuel at anything less than N1000 a litre, one day soon our nation might be in total absolute darkness, then you might not even have a gen to charge your phone with, one day soon you may not even be sure of another breath talk less of your waking the next day. I do not wish these things to happen nor do I believe they would, but the possibility is highly high at the rate our country is going, things are terribly wrong and because we have these simple luxuries we choose to ignore the realities and ominous vibrations in the air right now. As an optimist I want to hope Nigeria turns out right and does it quick, but in my heart of hearts I KNOW it wouldn't. We are where we are as a result of selfishness and the malevolence of our minds, it doesn't stop or start with those at the helms of power, it starts with you, you who dropped that bottle of coke on the floor and when the rain takes it away it joined up with other bottles of the same shit that shit people like you dropped and it blocks the drainages somewhere and aids a flood that sends a family out of their house, it starts with you the foodstuff seller who would maliciously weld your measuring cup so that it looks like you're selling to your customer a cup of rice when he's only getting half, it starts with you who would clone drug capsules and fill them with milk/chalk or whatever you use, it starts with you who knows your husband is a killer and a thief but wouldn't turn him in because he feeds you and buys you gels, it starts with you who would- Bleep! I'm actually tearing up. . . it starts with me cuz I've lost the will to finish this up because i know you probably do not care because you'll wake up tomorrow on your soft bed to the face of your loved ones, you do not care and that's why it starts with YOU! |
