Sorry for derailing a bit but is it normal for a dog not to allow its owner touch its newborn pups, that was what I faced with my dog last year August, please what can I do to control the situation next time. I am asking you this because I saw your posts on Ishilove's thread. You sounded like a real dogman

Its all about the temperament. If your dog is the type that growls at you when eating or try to take its food it will probably not allow touching of brand new pups.

Even in my case i was apprehensive and not sure if she will not allow..however upon birth of the first pup outside i called her in and brought the pup in with her so i knew she was ok with me touching them. Even now at two days if i touch any she follows my movement with her nose so i am still careful.

In my younger days i had an alstian mix that would give bloodcurdling growls if you came near her and her litter.

If shes like that dont worry after some time as the pups become less fragile she will allow you to touch them. If you really need to touch them, you can lure her away with food or water then lock her there and quickly do what u want to do with the pups before you release her

Trixie is a really good mum and a great dog (towards her owner) too. The pups are just enjoying suck brestand sleep..22 hrs sleep a day no be play oo
