Nairaland GeneralThe Story Of A Nigerian Boy Whose PARENTS Were Killed In Kaduna Riots Of 2002 by spywareczar(op): 7:20pm On Feb 07, 2013
This is the story of a young boy whose parents were murdered during 2002 riots in Kaduna. He was aged 11 years at the time. His parents, Mr Austine and Mrs Josephine Moses, were missionaries until they met their untimely death. The boy left his house to play football but returned home to see that all his parents had laboured for had been razed down and he would never see his mother and father again.
He was taken to London by his uncle almost immediately after the incident. While in London, he began deploying his football skills. Though his parents were murdered, his passion for football was never killed. He played footballfor his school and later for a local Tandrige League club until Crystal Palace FC approached him. From that point, his career progressed in leaps and bounds.
This player played for England's under 16, 17, 19 and 21 teams between 2005 and 2010 scoring 11 goals for England during this period. He later moved to Wigan Athletic and now he plays for Chelsea.
This footballer is called VICTOR MOSES.
His story is a touching one, We share his pains. We also share his courage. He had a choice not to step into Nigeria again but he didn't take thatoption. When the call to serve his fatherland came, Moses dumped England and embraced Nigeria. That is patriotism!
Today, we see a Victor Moses bringing joy to every Nigerian including those who may have inspired his parent's death... That is Love!
On Sunday, Moses would stand for the National Anthem and pledge allegiance to a country that couldn't defend his parents. That is faith!
Moses would deliver the "African Cup of Nations" trophy to Nigeria not minding what had happened in the past. That is forgiveness!
Moses rose through bitterness and despair to the limelight of hope and courage.
He never gave up on his country. He persevered. That is purpose!
If someone like Victor Moses, despite the bitter past, Never gave up on Nigeria, then why should we? ONE NIGERIA, ONE LOVE!!!
-Hope For Nigeria.

CrimeMan Killed Over Lover In Kano by spywareczar(op): 10:32am On Feb 07, 2013
A 23-year-old man was killed on Tuesday night at Yamadawa quarters of Kano State, Daily Trust gathered. Aminu Yusuf, a younger brotherto the deceased, said his brother was attacked by thugs allegedly sent by his rival, over a girl they were both dating.
Aminu said the incident occurred around 10:30pm, shortly after the deceased returned home.
“When we came back, I left him outside and entered the house. After some minutes, I hearda scream, and I rushed out only to meet him severely injured with three people on him holding dangerous weapons. He told me that they snatched his mobile phone and took awayall his money. Realizing that I could not face them alone, I shouted for help, and they ran away,” Aminu said.
He added that one of his neighbours pursued the attackers, and they arrested one of them, Jibrin Hamza, and handed him to the police.
“The apprehended suspect was the one who told us that they were sent by one Nasiru, a friend to one man, who is dating the same girl Jamilu was dating. The man warned Jamilu on several occasions to stop seeing the girl or he will eliminate him,” the deceased’s brother added.
When contacted, Kano State Police Command spokesman, Magaji Musa Majia, confirmed the incident. He said the deceased, Jamilu Idris, and the suspects had a misunderstanding after a business transaction as the result of which the suspect used a knife and stabbed the victim. He added that the victim sustained various degrees of injuries, and was later confirmed dead by a doctor.
Majia added that one man was arrested at the scene of the crime by members of the community, who handed him over to the police.
“A knife was found in his possession and he confirmed to the police that he used the weapon in perpetrating the crime. The suspect is in custody and we are still pursuing the other2 suspects who are now at large,” Majia said.

Even the guys attacking the Yorubas most are the people from this region! Still blaming OBJ and his people for all their problems....
The Yorubas have long abandoned him! He did nothing for them, and gave everything to these same people who want him crucified.

EducationReps Suspend Jamb’s E-Test, Summons Education Minister by spywareczar(op): 9:00am On Feb 06, 2013
The House of Representatives yesterday summoned Minister of Education Professor Rukayyatu Rufai over the planned conduct of computer based test for the 2013 unified tertiary matriculation examination by the Joint Admission Matriculation and Examination Board (JAMB).

Adopting a motion on matters of urgent public importance sponsored by Rep. Ali Madaki (PDP, Kano), the House directed the education ministry and JAMB to suspend the computer based test planned for April this year and revert back to the use of old existing centres and the new secondary schools constructed by various arms of government and allow for more time to equip these schools with necessary infrastructure conduct computer test.

The House also summoned Rukayyatu and the JAMB Registrar to appear before the House committee on education to among other things explain the "reason behind the policy somersault that led to change in takes off of the policy from 2015 to 2013; the law that empowers JAMB to contract out the conduct of examination to private firms? And who are these firms." In his motion, Rep. Madaki said that JAMB had fixed the year 2015 as the terminal year to end its paper and pencil based examination as stated by the minister Professor Rukayyatu Rufa'i in November 2012 but "JAMB has now somersaulted and resolves to start computer based test on 27th April 2013."

He argued that "the vexed question is how many secondary schools are equipped with computers. Alarmed there is no clear cut modus operandi for the computer based test method because JAMB itself lacks the competence and facilities to conduct the examinations, hence JAMB has contracted private firm to conduct the computer based test (CBT)?

According to him, "the ripples effect has led massive reduction of examination centres despite increased in schools, closure of several registration centres in states like Bauchi, Bayelsa, Kano, Benue, Cross Rivers, FCT, Kaduna, Katsina thereby leading to the disfranchisement of many candidates that would have take the exams."

PoliticsBoko-Haram Training Camps Found In Mali by spywareczar(op): 7:58am On Feb 06, 2013
Hundreds of Boko Haram members stayed at training camps with Malian militants for months in Timbuktu, learning to fix Kalashnikovs and launch shoulder-fired weapons, a report has said.
The Nigerians fled the city into the desert, along with the other militants, days before a French airstrike on January 20, American newspaper Wall Street Journal reported.
A man who said he was hired to cook for the militants said the Boko Haram members trained for about 10 months at what is now a bombed-out customs-police building on Timbuktu’s desert fringe, intermingling with a local al Qaeda offshoot called Ansar Dine.
“Every day I saw people coming here, saying they want to sign up,” said the man, whose description of the militants’ activities matched those offered by four neighbours.
The Wall Street Journal quoted locals as saying that until just a few weeks ago, the bombed-out customs-police building in Timbuktu was one of bustling training centers populated not only by local al Qaeda-linked militants but alsoby hundreds of Boko Haram members.
Well over 200 Nigerians arrived in Timbuktu in April 2012 in about 300 cars, the cook said, after al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) swept into the city.
Residents said about 50 Boko Haram militants lived and trained at the customs building, and 50 more lived in an annex across a giant sandylot, while others took up in other abandoned government buildings.
The presence of Nigerian trainees in Mali confirms statements earlier made by authorities that some Boko Haram fighters trained in Mali.
Last year, a senior security chief gave a briefing in which he said Nigeria was going to Mali primarily to uproot the Boko Haram training facilities.
Also, Chief of Army Staff Lt-General Azubuike Ihejirika said last month that Boko Haram received training in Mali, making it imperative for Nigerian troops to join the international campaign to free northern Mali from militants.
Running a war college
The Wall Street Journal report quoted neighbours as saying that in Timbuktu, AQIM ran a sophisticated war college from several abandoned buildings. Judging by locals’ accounts of the training, this was where Boko Haram militants gained skills to allow them to expand beyond their typical quick-hit bomb strikes.
On dunes just west of the customs house, BokoHaram fighters fired shoulder-fired arms, the cook and four neighbors said—though it couldn’t be determined if they were describing sophisticated rockets or more rudimentary mortars. In its Nigeria attacks, Boko Haram appears not to have used shoulder-mounted weapons.
Within a week of the foreign militants’ arrival, the al Qaeda-backed groups began offering jobs to locals. A gunman came to the cook’s door, looking for someone fluent in the Hausa language—which the cook had learned in Kumasi, a trading town in Ghana with a large Hausa population. They paid him about N3,000 a day, he said, to cook for Ansar Dine and BokoHaram.
A restaurateur said he sometimes brought tubs of couscous and spaghetti to the training camp, but said the Boko Haram fighters didn’t extend much courtesy to locals. “They are extremely rude,” said the restaurateur, adding: “They pay whatever price you want.”
On a typical day, after rising before dawn to pray and read the Quran, the militants ran five laps around the sand-choked lot, the size of several football fields, said the cook and neighbors who witnessed the exercises. After push-ups in the sand, the militants ate a breakfast of bread and powdered milk.
They then met with specialists, the cook said. He described an arms specialist from Pakistan, who he said taught Boko Haram and Ansar Dine members how to break apart and reassemble assault rifles, over and over again. There was a computer specialist who appeared,to the cook, to be mostly occupied making fliers extolling the fundamentalist cause. A heavy arms specialist who the cook said was from
Afghanistan told militants how to breathe steadily when firing a shoulder-mounted rocket.
“Swear to God, every day, new people, they come,” said Moulhar Arby, a girl in the earthen-wall house next door to the customs office. “Nobody knows how they come here.”
Commanders from Boko Haram and Ansar Dinegave newcomers 4,000 West African CFA, the local equivalent of N1,250, to enlist, the cook said. After training, he said, recruits were givenabout N4,700—their first taste of money following months of sharing bathrooms with scores of militants.
Days before the French bomb hollowed out the customs building, the Nigerians sneaked away, neighbors said. Every night, a few came back to toggle the lights, these people said, presumably to convey to surveillance planes above that Boko Haram was still in Timbuktu, the report said.
