PoliticsRe: Nigeria Must Sustain 15 Years Of Reforms To Ensure Impact — World Bank by StaffofOrayan(m): 5:14pm On Oct 15, 2024
Kobojunkie:
Stop fleeting arrogantly in ignorance abeg! huh

Did you know that for a brief period — 2003 - 2007— Nigeria was on the path to succeeding with this recipe? Yes, Obasanjo finally began working hard on the implementation of a lot of these reforms and Nigeria began reaping dividends even then. Nigeria was able to pay off its debt while the rest was wiped off. The country began the privatization of public sector companies and saved up so much money — $50 Billion in its Excess Crude Accounts — too. Sadly, that all ended when Yar Adua came into office and reversed many of the reforms that had been in place. If Nigeria had continued with those reforms through the Yar Adua and even Jonathan regimes, the APC would not have easily come in to destroy all of it and take Nigerians back to square one again. undecided

Yes, if Obasanjo had also installed the Safety Net plan and removed fuel subsidy at that time too, or even during Yar adua's time, Nigerians would have probably saved over $100 billion in subsidy money. Sadly the success was cut short by the greedy politicians. Now that I think about it. Maybe Nigerians missed a good opportunity when they refused to allow Obasanjo to continue for a third term in office. Maybe that was needed at the time but we were too blinded by propaganda and permission to see it. Compared to the nutjobs that came after him, Obasanjo was a saint. undecided
Your answer is why you are not smart.
My first post was about how IMF/World bank are only interested in getting their loan paid back
Now you are telling how the reforms made Nigeria pay it's loan back under Obasanjo,
Can you pique your dumbnessss now

Your choice to be a very bad cook has nothing to do with the recipe but you. Yes, it is your choice to be a very bad cook. undecided

I can tell you this because, in the U.S. Army, the cooks who work in the kitchens in their submarines get just 5 weeks of training in how to cook for 1000s of people — just 5 weeks. And many of those who get that training are not people who enjoyed cooking before being assigned to the kitchen. Yet you rarely hear of the cooks on their teams being bad cooks because all that is required to be a cook good is training— discipline. So, your choice to remain a bad cook is exactly that, your f-king choice. undecided

Nigerians too can enjoy many of the same quality of living that people in developed countries have if they can get their government and corruption checked. APC has wrought terrible havoc on the Nigerian economy and the lives of the people. But it remains that the only ones who can stand up to make Nigeria a better place for the people are the people. No external power can do that; not even the World Bank sanctioning Nigeria can make that happen. undecided
Except no country in the world has succeeded with the stupid recipe

It isn't the job of the World Bank to make all things remain the same... that job belongs to Nigerians and their Government. I mean, this isn't rocket science for Pete's sake! 🙄🙄🙄

If I handed you a formula or a cooking recipe and told you that if you implemented the given formula, you would have delicious food to last you a week. Why in the world would you also expect me to come to monitor you to make sure you don't corrupt the formulae or whatever to ensure success? NO be grown-ups aka a nation Nigeria and Nigerians be? 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
You know I am a very bad cook, and then you give me a recipe and expect magic?

Kobojunkie:
If the government is corrupt, that is the problem of the people of Nigeria, no the World Bank can instead tell the people and their government that if they successfully implement and maintain the reforms they should be able to begin greatly benefitting within 15 years. undecided

Where in the world do you folks get off thinking the World Bank is some authority set up to monitor corruption and ineptitude in your economy abeg? Where? Can you equally go to your local Bank and make the same demands of it.... suggest that it should probe the individual lives of its customers to ensure first there are no corrupt practices before it chooses to do so with the individual entity or not. I don't understand where you people come up with this notion that the World Bank ought to be Nigeria's corruption monitor or nanny! undecided
Have you heard of the phrase 'all things being equal' in economics?
If you make a 15 year prediction then you have to assume all things would remain thesame!
I don't know how else to explain to you!

First, you would need to show me where your corrupt Nigerian Government has ever successfully implemented any reform in its entire history. undecided

2. Subsidy, we know has always been a scam against Nigerians and needs to be removed. However, 18 months into the current administration, it has still not been implemented. Don't you see a trend here with corrupt government? It cannot correctly implement common-sense policies because it knows it would be working against its greedy interest if it did so. undecided
So if the govt is corrupt, where is the world Bank seeing positive changes after15 years of reform from?
You are just typing for the sake of typing
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Must Sustain 15 Years Of Reforms To Ensure Impact — World Bank by StaffofOrayan(m): 11:40pm On Oct 14, 2024
Kobojunkie:
1. Stop shifting blame for the incompetence of your government(kakistocrats whom you elected into government) to the IMG and World Bank already. The reforms suggested are commonsense reforms that would work for the betterment of Nigeria and Nigerians if and only if properly implemented by your Government. undecided

Look at subsidy removal for example. If the Government had in fact put in a safety net right and then implemented subsidy removal using the money from that to fund the safety net, many Nigerians would not be where they are today suffering. But it has been over 18 months since Nigerians were lied to about subsidy removal and yet there is no evidence that any money has been saved in all of that time that can be used to maybe help set up a safety net at this point. How is that the fault of the IMF or World Bank? undecided

Your government taxing the poor citizens is your government to blame. Even here in the U.S. Tax exemptions are available to many of the poor. It is 2024, please engage your brains! undecided
Show me where such reforms has EVER worked!
That should be easy
Subsidy is a big scam, only people with negative IQ believe that crap

The world Bank/IMF just want their loan serviced on time, if you for one second think the most exploitative race on the planet would give their best customer sound financial advice then perhaps we really are monkeys! The same mofos that sold us as slaves??

If anyone can show how China lifted double the population of Nigeria out of extreme poverty by taxing the same poor citizens, I would eat my shoe!

ALTERNATEID:
Atiku should shut the fvck up. Things are hard no doubt we all know why. Marker forces will determine the price of PMS going forward as advocated by all sensible economist.

The war in the Middle East between Israel and her neighbors have pushed up the price of crude oil and we can’t be isolated like the rest of the world. If crude prices get down, PMS price will go down as well. Market forces and nothing else.

The alternative is to borrow money to pay subsidy and that’s a no no. The subsidy regime is gone for good.

BusinessRe: CBN Increases Interest Rate To 27.25% From 26.75% by StaffofOrayan(m): 8:47pm On Sep 24, 2024
grandstar:
The interest rates need to be higher than inflation.

Presently, inflation is 33%, while the CBN rate is 28.5%. It needs to be higher than inflation to be effective.

Economist like to use a phrase "in real terms"

Recently, a microfinance bani through their bank wanted me to save with them, offering me 20% interest rates.

I rejected it because it was lower than inflation. Though it looked tempting, the fact the rate was lower than inflation, this put me off.

Saving rate - the inflation rate

20%-33% = -13%.

In real terms, I was losing 13%.

If they offered me 35%, I would most likely have jumped at it as I would make 2% in real terms.

Inflation is too high and it's hurting everyone.
A bank wanted to offer you 20% interest? Omo
Interest rate has to be equal to inflation?
WTF are you on about?
PoliticsRe: Three Quotes Of Nnamdi Kanu In Court Today That Shook Social Media by StaffofOrayan(m): 8:30pm On Sep 24, 2024
In my very humble opinion, Ipob should have been a great political force in the SE, but some VERY shrewd politicians in the region quickly had it proscribed and then they wanted to rub off his clout, as long as they (Ipob) were outsiders.
Imagine a Senate with members loyal to Kanu's cause!, commissioners, local govt chairman, in no time a governor! Ipob at its peak was that popular!
Trying to bring violence to a country where people are kidnapped and killed on a daily wouldn't shake the overseers of such a country, infact it is an avenue to loot, underperform and blame it all on insecurity!
It seems to be a lost opportunity... especially since it divulged into the cesspit of tribalism and ego
