Recently the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in Nigeria launched a one year HND to BSc conversion program in conjunction with Mewar International University, India. A lot of Nigeria HND holders have applied for the program on the NBTE website. Some have paid for the application form of N50, 000 ad also made part payment for the school fees. Two persons, I sent the link to, that applied have reached out to me, complaining, they are yet to receive login details from Mewar International University and other necessary guidelines how to attend lectures after making payment for the form and part school fees payment. World soccer governing body FIFA is now being awaited to give the final approval for former Germany youth international Kevin Akpoguma to be eligible to play for Nigeria. Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr disclosed that he would have loved to have the Hoffenheim towering defender to make his debut for Nigeria during the friendlies against Cote d’ Ivoire and Tunisia but that wouldn’t be possible. The center-back was born to a German mother and a Nigerian father and has represented Germany U16, U17, U18, U19, U20, and U20 teams, featuring in more than 60 games. “We are very happy about the decision of Kevin Akpoguma to switch from Germany to Nigeria. Because he played for Germany at youth levels, the process is not finished yet because Fifa must give the authorization,” Rohr told BBC sport. “He has fulfilled the written request to switch and we only await the good news that he can finally play for us,” Rohr continued. “It’s too soon to expect him to play our two friendlies in October, but hopefully for the Nations Cup qualifiers in November.” He disclosed that Akpoguma was keen to represent Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/09/fifa-delays-akpoguma-super-eagles-switch/

By Emma Ujah The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has cut the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) from 12.5 per cent to 11.5 per cent, an indication of a reduction in the cost of funds by 100 basis points. The CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, disclosed this while presenting the decisions of Monetary Policy Committee, MPC after its two-day meeting in Abuja on Tuesday. However, the committee retained the Cash Reserve Ratio and Liquidity Ratio at 27.5 per cent and 30 per cent, respectively Reasons for cutting rate The governor explained why the rate was cut, thus, “After the consideration of the three policy options, members were of the opinion that the option to loose will complement the Bank’s commitment to sustain the trajectory of the economic recovery and reduce the negative impact of COVID-19. “In addition, the liquidity injections are expected to stimulate credit expansion to the critically impacted sectors of the economy and offer impetus for output growth and economic recovery.” On the rising inflation, Mr. Emefiele noted that so far, evidence has not supported the rising inflation to monetary factors but rather, evidence suggested non-monetary factors (structural factors) as the overwhelming reasons accounting for the inflationary pressure. He said, “Accordingly, the implication is that traditional monetary policy instruments are not helpful in addressing the type of inflationary pressure we are currently confronted with. “What is useful is the kind of supply side measures currently being implemented. MPC also expects that a downward adjustment in MPR may be necessary to further put pressure on our deposit money banks to lower cost of credit in aid of growth.” He added that the broad outlook for the global recovery remained uncertain, as the headwinds associated with the COVID-19 pandemic was persisting, especially as new indications of a second spike in the rate of infections, continued to dampen prospects of a near term recovery. “The persisting volatility in global oil prices which is likely to continue beyond the end of 2020, as indicated by the deliveries in the oil futures market, signposts the likelihood of a disorderly global recovery,” Mr. Emefiele, added. In the face of the global economic challenges, the CBN stressed the urgent need for a combination of broad-based monetary and fiscal policy measures to curb the rise in inflation and contraction in output growth. “This will involve targeted investment by the fiscal authorities to resuscitate critical infrastructure to improve the ease of doing business across the country. “In addition, the MPC believes the fiscal authorities can build on earlier efforts and articulate a clear strategy to attract private sector investment. The Bank will, however, continue to take relevant steps to ensure that the detrimental risk of inflation to the economy is contained,” he said. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/09/just-in-cbn-cuts-rate-mpr-to-11-5/amp/#referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&_tf=From%20%251%24s |
