– Arm robbers attack Super Eagles star Ogenyi Onazi’s family in Jos, beat his father and cart away with a Toyota Highlander

Four armed robbers on Monday, September 12, attacked the Jos home of Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi, carting away valuables including a Toyota Highlander and cash.

According to a report on Complete Sports, the robbers pretended to be courier men with a letter to Onazi’s father before they pounced on him and forced their way in.
Speaking from his base in Turkey, Onazi disclosed that the thieves left a message saying that, “this is a first in a series of attacks” they will carry out on his household.

Onazi said: “Those robbers came, pretending they were there to deliver a letter to my dad at about 1.40pm on Monday, September 12, as soon as he collected their fake letter and asked where it was coming from they swooped on him, tied his hands, beat him up, inflicting machete cuts on him in the process.”

He added: “They told him this is the first in a series of attacks that they will launch on our house and that I ( Onazi) will be their target the next time.

“They took their time to take some valuable materials including car and some cash but I am thankful to God they didn’t do more than that.”

It was gathered that Onazi’s brothers and other family members have reported the incident to the police who promised to bring the hoodlums to book.

The police also vowed to help with the recovery of the stolen items.

Onazi’s dad has also been discharged from hospital where he was treated for the injuries inflicted on him during the ordeal.

Onazi, who has 38 international caps, helped Nigeria win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, and played in all four of his country’s games at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The 23-year-old midfielder signed a four-year ‎deal for former Turkish champions, Tranbzonspor after five years at Lazio. He got a brace for his new team on his debut last month.
