Politics › Oyo APC Guber Candidate Teslim Folarin Agrees To Work With Seyi Makinde by Starpotter2(op): 10:38pm On Oct 31, 2022 |
2023: Oyo APC guber candidate Teslim Folarin agrees to work with Seyi Makinde for endorsing Tinubu over Atiku The Oyo All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Teslim Folarin has expressed his willingness to work with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the state governor, Seyi Makinde for Bola Ahmed Tinubu to win bloc votes in the state ahead of the 2023 general election.
Folarin stated this at the launch of the party’s presidential and governorship campaign councils on Monday, October 31, 2022, in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
Recall that, Adebayo Lawal, the Oyo state deputy governor on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at a meeting between Afenifere leaders and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, presidential candidate of the APC, in Akure, the capital of Ondo state said his principal is in support of whoever the Afenifere endorsed for president.
Lawal, who represented Makinde at the meeting, said the Oyo governor has always been in support of the decisions taken by Afenifere.
“Since he (Makinde) has become a governor, he hasn’t played with issues concerning Yorubaland,” Lawal said.
Reacting to the development on Monday, Teslim who is contesting against Seyi Makinde in the coming election said; “The good news is, in Akure yesterday, there was a meeting by Afenifere. It was across party lines.
“Oyo governor sent his deputy and he sang the Asiwaju song. If that is their position, they should send their party chairman to meet with ours, so we wouldn’t disturb INEC.
“We have our candidate, Asiwaju and they have their own, Atiku, if they now want to support our candidate, we are all aware that resources are scarce, we can then advise INEC, don’t come to Oyo State.
We have extended an invitation. I’m serious. We don’t want to stress anybody, we can agree on the percentage to give Asiwaju.”
“There is no time Baba (Fasoranti) calls him that he doesn’t answer. Whatever they are doing, whether it’s under Afenifere or another group, governor Seyi Makinde has always been doing.
“Now, we are not of the same party, but we are connected by race. For this reason, the message he (Makinde) sent is that in Yorubaland, whatever you do, he is in support of it.”
This is coming amid the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of which he and Makinde are members.
Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, and his associates, including Makinde, have been demanding the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman of the PDP.
They vowed not to participate in the campaign of Atiku Abubakar, Presidential candidate of the PDP, until Ayu resigns.
According to Wike, Ayu had promised to step down from his position if the party elects a presidential candidate from the north because he hails from Benue, a state in the north-central geopolitical zone. JUST IN: Population commission launches portal to recruit over 1 million Nigerians for 2023 census The National Population Commission (NPC) has officially launched its e-recruitment portal to recruit ad-hoc staff for the 2023 census.
This was disclosed on Monday, October 31, 2022, by the Census Manager, Inuwa Jalingo in Abuja.
According to him, the commission is expected to receive over 25 million applications for the over one million available jobs, adding that there was a need for the process to be competitive, reliable and transparent.
He explained that, “The adoption of e-Recruitment approach is to ensure widespread applications from all over the localities in the country, minimize bias and ascertain that all qualified Nigerians are given equal opportunity to apply and be recruited and ensuring that no one is left behind.
On his part, Chairman, National Population Commission, Nasir Isa-Kwarra, said the bulk of personnel for the 2023 census will be drawn from the communities where they are resident.
“The Commission adopts e-Recruitment portal to recruit ad-hoc staff for the 2023 Population and Housing Census. This portal has been tested during Pretest and Trial Census and has been greatly improved to serve different category of ad-hoc staff.”
Jalingo maintained that the categories of staff to be recruited were, facilitators, training centre administrators, monitoring & evaluation officers, data quality managers, data quality assistants, supervisors, enumerators and special work force.
He added that the basic requirements for the application, were, National Identification Number Valid and Functional Gmail Account, Valid and Functional Phone Number, Valid and Functional /Operational Commercial Bank Account (No student/NYSC Account) Valid Educational Qualifications, referees “access to and knowledge on the use of computers, tablets & smartphones is an added advantage,” he noted.
“This will remove the huge logistics of moving personnel across the country. Consequently, every community will have the opportunity of contributing to the census workforce thereby ensuring that the people are adequately counted,” he stated.
Isa-Kwarra emphasised that the recruitment process will reflect greatly on the quality of data to be collected and ultimately the success of the 2023 census.
He said, “To us in the Commission, the quality of staff that will perform the census activities are very important. Therefore, having good knowledge of the content of the census document, the technique and the organization of the census process is key to the success of the 2023 Population and Housing Census.
“While a good recruitment exercise will not by itself necessarily guarantee a successful census, a badly conducted recruitment process will inevitably lead to problems and increase the risk of an unsuccessful census.
“The launching of the online E-recruitment portal for the 2023 census at the headquarters marks the beginning of the online recruitment process whereby Nigerians from all demography and gender can hook on to the website that will be provided by the Commission to fill the online form and get themselves registered to be recruited.” SOURCE: https:///just-in-population-commission-launches-portal-to-recruit-over-1-million-nigerians-for-2023-census/

Crime › 13 Passengers Attempting To Beat Sit-at-home Burnt To Death by Starpotter2(op): 12:14pm On Oct 31, 2022 |
No fewer than 13 persons were burnt to death on Sunday night in an accident involving a Toyota bus and a trailer at 4-Corners Junction, near Enugu metropolis, Enugu State.
The victims were burnt beyond recognition as the bus conveying them from Imo to Adamawa State, had a head-on collision with a trailer and exploded immediately.
The victims were said to be attempting to beat the Monday's sit-at-home order in solidarity with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu over continued detention by the Federal Government when the bus collided with the trailer.
The accident, said to have occurred at about 10.30pm close to army checkpoint at 4-Corners, attracted the soldiers, who made futile effort to rescue the victims.
It was gathered that soldiers alerted the officials of Road Safety and Fire Service, but their quick response could not save the victims who were burnt beyond recognition.
It was further gathered that the most of the passengers were deep asleep, resulting to their inability to recover quickly when the accident occurred.
However, the only passenger who survived, was said to have jumped out from the window of the bus and was rescued by security operatives.
He was said to have been rushed to the nearby University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital(UNTH) Enugu.
The charred bodies of the victims were taken to the morgue of the UNTH.
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Enugu State command, Mr. Joseph Toby, confirmed the incident to our correspondent in Enugu, the state capital but said he could not give the number of casualties until they were through with work at the scene..
He said he and his men rushed to the scene immediately he received the information about the accident and stayed there with the men of the fire service till 2pm Monday morning.
He added they had to return to the scene on Monday morning to evacuate the wreckage from the road despite the sit-at-home situation in the state SOURCE:. https:///13-passengers-attempting-to-beat-sit-at-home-burnt-to-death/

Politics › Worries As CBN Spends N58.61bn To Print 2.52bn Naira Notes In 12 Months by Starpotter2(op): 9:50pm On Oct 30, 2022 |
Worries as CBN spends N58.61bn to print 2.52bn naira notes in 12 months The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has revealed it spent N58.61 billion printing Naira notes for circulation in the country.
This was disclosed in the recently released Annual Report 2020, compiled by the CBN’s Currency Operations Department.
According to CBN 2,51 billion pieces of banknotes of various denominations was printed to satisfy the currency needs of the economy. The amount spent in 2020 for printing is a significant drop when compared with what CBN spent in 2019 and 2018.
The apex bank said it disposed of 1.51 billion pieces of banknotes worth N698.48 billion in 2020.
In Nigeria, the CBN destroys unfit banknotes on a regular basis under strict security and with the authorization of Section 18(d) of the CBN Act 2007, which mandates the destruction of currency notes and coins withdrawn from circulation under the provisions of Section 20(3) of the said Act or otherwise deemed unfit for use by the Bank.
According to the CBN report, the bank sustained banknotes disposal operations in 2020 to ensure the circulation of clean ones.
The bank said; “At the end of December 2020, a total of 1.51 billion pieces (151,427 boxes) worth N698,593.29 million were disposed of, compared to 1.57 billion pieces (157,217 boxes) worth N814,437.60 million in 2019.
“The number of boxes and the value of inappropriate notes disposed of in 2020 fell by 5,790 boxes and N1,115.84 million, respectively, from 157,217 boxes and N814,437.10 million in 2019. The drop was ascribed to a halt in disposal activities owing to COVID19 regulations.”
In furtherance of this objective, CBN revealed it deployed eleven (11) Banknote Destruction Systems (BDS) and three (3) Currency Disintegrating Systems (CDS) for currency disposal activities in the period under review.
The CBN also stated that the sum of N538.59 million was incurred on currency disposal activities in 2020, compared with N647.82 million in 2019. This was N109.23 million or 16.86 percent lower than the cost in 2019.
Recall that the CBN, Wednesday, announced plans to redesign and reissue the N1000, N500 and N200 currency denominations, in an effort to rein in inflation and take control of money supply in the country.
CBN governor Godwin Emefiele, who’d made this known also said the current naira notes will no longer be legal tender from January 31, 2023.
However, analysts have worried that this move is bound to put more pressure on the nation’s economy which is grappling with high fiscal deficit, debt crisis, severe revenue crisis and underfunding of many government projects and programmes. Crime › Fear As Numerous Travellers Are Kidnapped On The Lagos-ibadan Expressway by Starpotter2(op): 11:32am On Oct 29, 2022 |
JUST IN: Fear As Numerous Travellers Are Kidnapped On the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Unknown numbers of travellers have apparently been abducted on South-West Nigeria's well-known Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
On Friday, October 28, 2022, in the early evening, the event took place near Dominion University City of Faith, KM 24, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
As a result of the development, there is tension along the freeway because a number of vehicles have turned around and started travelling in the opposite direction.
Three private vehicles were damaged, according to an eyewitness who spoke with our correspondent. The number of kidnapped individuals could not be determined.
He named three vehicles as being affected: a Jeep, a Toyota Camry, and an unidentified sedan.
The eyewitness, who was travelling from Lagos to Ibadan, reported that drivers and people nearby were afraid.
I can confirm that some drivers have just been abducted close to Dominion University in Ibadan, the man stated. Although several vehicles were forced to turn around, the road is now clear as I speak to you. I observed three cars with their doors wide open, but not a single person was inside any of the cars, and there is no sign of their whereabouts.
"One of the cars crashed into the wall with its bonnet as the car behind it jammed it, but there was no trace of an accident. The fact that the vehicles were deserted convinces us that it was a kidnapping.
“At first, we taught it was robbery but if it was not. We should have seen those that were robbed. There was nobody at the scene when my vehicle got there.”
The witness said when they moved away from the scene, they saw some hunters and vigilantes heading toward the place the incident happened.
When contacted, the Amotekun Commandant in the state, Coln Olayinka Olayanju said he has no information about the latest kidnapping in the state.
He said, “I am not aware of such development. There is no way such a thing would happen and we won’t be informed. Such a thing is strange to me. I will find out and get back to you.”
The police are yet to react to the development SOURCE: https:///just-in-fear-as-numerous-travellers-are-kidnapped-on-the-lagos-ibadan-expressway/

Nigerian Lecturer Gives Students $100 Each for Attending His First Class After ASUU Strike in a Popular University According to allegations, a lecturer at the University of Ibadan gave incentives to those who attended his first class after the start of the new semester.
Pupils were shocked when Dr. Bisi Olawuyi, a university lecturer, paid each of the few students that attended his presentation $100.
Remember that higher education institutions have already asked students to return for academic activities after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) recently put off its eight-month-old strike.
The union went on strike to demand that the agreements it had made with the Federal Government a few years prior be fully implemented.
The art department lecturer reportedly called for lectures but found barely 10 students in the room when he arrived.
He then gave each of them $100, and they decided to document the unusually unexpected moment by taking pictures.
An absentee student expressed regret at losing out on the monetary incentives.
”So… today that I didn’t go to class… Dr Bisi shared 100 dollar notes to everyone who came to class… whyyy,” the caption read.
A Twitter user who shared photos on the microblogging site, wrote; ‘‘Ọmọ, one lecturer for art at the University of Ìbàdàn give 10 students who attended his first class 100 dollars each.
However, in a later development on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, the lecturer dismissed the claim as false and advised Nigerians to disregard it. SOURCE: https:///nigerian-lecturer-gives-students-100-each-for-attending-his-first-class-after-ASUU-strike-in-a-popular-university/
