CelebritiesActress, Destiny Etiko Reveals Her Virginity Is Intact by Starpotter2(op): 6:11pm On Apr 22, 2023
Talented and beautiful Nigerian actress, Destiny Etiko has revealed that she is a virgin.

The screen diva spoke about her status during an interview with Oak TV, where she opened up on her personal life and decision to remain celibate.

When asked what her body count is, Etiko, 33, said her virginity is intact as she’s never been in a relationship that progressed to the point of being intimate with a man.

“I am still a virgin because of my crippling social anxiety. I still have not been in a relationship that has gone to ‘that level,’” she said.

Meanwhile, social commentator, Reno Omokri, recently stressed that abstinence remains the best policy for both men and women.

He said the world would have been a much better place if everyone preserved their virginity till they got married.

The ex-aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan stated this via his Twitter account as he warned that intercourse is addictve and once one starts, it will be difficult to stop.

Reno earlier said virgins should not feel embarrassed when their peers mock them because deep within, those people are crying and wishing they never lost their virginity.

According to him, their laughter is a form of manipulation to ensure that the virgin goes ahead to engage in the act and become like them.

Omokri wrote; “When you have intercourse once, you will have it again. And again. It is a hunger that gets hungrier the more you eat. So, do not awaken that hunger until you marry. Look at the world. Would it not be a much better place if we all kept our virginity until marriage?

He added; “When you are a virgin and your peers laugh at you, they are actually crying inside. Their external laugh is just to manipulate you to be like them. In 5 minutes, you can be like them. But in 5 million years, they can never be like you. So, keep it. You are special!''

Lagos Gov't trashes 'Gangs of Lagos' movie
The Lagos Government has berated the promoters and marketers of the movie “Gangs of Lagos” describing it as mocking Lagos’ cultural heritage.

The Lagos Government in a statement released on their site says that the movie “Gangs of Lagos” has portrayed a misrepresentation of the Lagos culture and also displays the culture of Lagos State in a derogatory manner.

The statement reads;

“A release signed by the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Pharm. (Mrs.) Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf said the Ministry, being the regulatory body and custodian of the culture of Lagos State, views the film/series as a mockery of the Heritage of Lagos.

“The Commissioner expressed her disappointment with the promoters of the film, Jade Osiberu, and Kemi Akindoju, for portraying the Eyo Masquerade as a gun-wielding villain while adorning the full traditional regalia.”

“We are of the opinion that the production of the film ‘The Gang of Lagos’ is very unprofessional and misleading while its content is derogatory of our culture, with the intention to desecrate the revered heritage of the people of Lagos. It is an unjust profiling of a people and culture as being barbaric and nefarious. It depicts a gang of murderers rampaging across the State”.

EducationUK Universities Begin Strike Over Pay, Pension, Others by Starpotter2(op): 9:31pm On Nov 25, 2022
Academic activities in the United Kingdom were disrupted on Thursday as varsity workers began a strike action over pay, working conditions, and pensions.

The University and College Union (UCU), the UK trade union for university staff, said the strike aimed at improving the educational sector will be the biggest in decades in the history of UK.

The UCU said over 70,000 members will take part in the strike action which will hold on Thursday, Friday and next Wednesday.

“This is the biggest week in our history. Every single university takes strike action on Thursday and Friday,” a statement by the union read. “We need every member, student and supporter on our picket lines on Thursday to show the employers that this time is different.”

Jo Grady, the general secretary of UCU, warned that it will be the “biggest strike action” in the country unless their demand is meant.

Ms. Grady asserted, “Staff is burnt out but they are fighting back and they will bring the whole sector to a standstill. Vice-chancellors only have themselves to blame. Their woeful leadership has led to the biggest vote for strike action ever in our sector. Students are standing with staff because they know this can’t go on.”

The National Union of Students (NUS), expressed its support for the strikes despite the impact on academic activities.

“We have always been clear that staff working conditions are student’s learning conditions, and for more than a decade both have come under attack from a sector that puts profits above education,” said Chloe Field, the vice president of NUS.

Meanwhile, Robert Halfon, the minister for skills, apprenticeships, and higher education, said it was “hugely disappointing” for students who had already suffered during the pandemic to face another academic disruption.

“I urge all sides to work together so that students do not suffer with further learning loss,” he said.

The strike has affected over 2.5 million students, some of who are standing in solidarity with varsity workers.

The UCU demands include an increase in payment, a review of it’s members pension, an end to insecure and short-term contracts.

Gripping economic situations due to surging energy costs arising from the Russia-Ukraine war, have kept the UK on the edge.

The Bank of England in August warned that inflation would overshoot 13 percent in 2022.

The country is also projected to enter a recession from the fourth quarter of 2022 until late 2023.

Bandits demand new naira as ransom after kidnapping villagers in Zamfara

Suspected bandits have demanded for new naira notes as ransom after kidnapping at least four persons in Kolo village, in the Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to reports, the bandits who requested N10m ransom to release the victims consisting of a man, woman, and two children rejected the old naira notes.

An indigene in the area, Mohammed Ibrahim, said the bandits later reduced the ransom to N5m, adding that people in the village had been trying to raise the money to secure the safe release of the victims.

“As we were trying to gather the money demanded by the terrorists, they sent another message this morning that they would not collect old naira notes.

“They said they would keep the abducted persons in their camps until the release of the new naira notes in December,” Ibrahim said.

Calls made to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu, and the state Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, rang out.

Text messages sent to their mobile numbers were yet to be responded to as of the time of filing this report.

In another development on Tuesday, gunmen kidnapped a politician of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Nduka Anyanwu, in Imo State.

It was gathered that Anyanwu, who is one of the party’s House of Assembly candidates, was campaigning with his supporters when the gunmen invaded the rally and whisked him away.

Narrating how the abduction happened, a source said, “The gunmen stopped him (Anyanwu) on the way as he was going to finalise arrangements for his polling agents. We are yet to ascertain where they took him to and the kidnappers are yet to make any contact.”

Contacted, the APGA Chairman in the state, John Iwuala, who confirmed the kidnap, and said the politician had been freed.

Iwuala said, “Yes, our candidate was kidnapped early this morning, but just as we were about to report it officially, we heard that the kidnapers had released him. The kidnappers collected all he had with him as at the time he was kidnapped.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mike Abattam, said he was yet to be informed about the incident.

Sports7 World Cup Records That Lionel Messi Could Break In Qatar by Starpotter2(op): 4:10pm On Nov 20, 2022
Lionel Messi will undoubtedly go down as one of the greats and he could further solidify his already stellar reputation by breaking these World Cup records.

Argentina are currently being tipped as one of the favourites in what looks to be a wide-open tournament.

The reigning Copa America champions are on a fine run of form coming into this year's competition and it might finally be the year that Messi gets his hands on the trophy.

We've looked through the World Cup records and picked out seven which he could feasibly break in Qatar this year.

Golden Ball awards

It was heartbreak for Messi in 2014 as he made it all the way to the final, only to narrowly lose out to Germany in the final.

He had a superb individual campaign though and won the 2014 Golden Ball for his contribution. In the history of the World Cup, no player has ever won two Golden Balls.

Both he and Luka Modric, the 2018 winner, have the chance to break this record in Qatar.

Appearances for Argentina

He's definitely going  to break this one.

Diego Maradona currently holds the record for the most appearances at the World Cup for Argentina. Messi is currently on 19 World Cup appearances for Argentina, while Maradona's record stands at 21.

Outright appearances

Along with breaking the Argentine record for appearances, Messi also has the chance to go clear with the most outright appearances in World Cup history.

Germany's Lothar Matthaus holds the record as things stand with 25 caps in the competition.

As this is the case, Argentina will need to go deep into the tournament for Messi to break the record as he is six caps away from levelling the tally as things stand.

Playing in five World Cups

Messi won't be alone in levelling this impressive record.

Both he and Cristiano Ronaldo will level the record to have played in five World Cup tournaments. Antonio Carbajal, Lothar Matthaus and Rafael Marquez are the only players to have achieved this so far.

Assists

This one will take some doing, but Messi of all players is capable of doing it.

Pele currently holds the record for the most assists in World Cup history with 10 to his name. Messi's World Cup assist tally currently stands at five.

The 35-year-old has been in exceptional form this season though and has provided 14 assists for PSG alone during the 2022-23 campaign.

If anyone can do it, it's Messi.

Goals for Argentina

He will also need to have his shooting boots on to beat this record.

Gabriel Batistuta is Argentina's all-time leading scorer in World Cup history with 10 goals across three tournaments. Messi's World Cup goal tally is six goals as things stand.

Most wins

Along with holding the record for the most goals in World Cup history, Miroslav Klose also holds the record for the most wins.

The German forward has won 17 World Cup matches, which Messi has the chance to surpass.

Messi's win tally currently stands at 12 and so Argentina will need to go far in order for him to break this record.

CultureNigeria Becomes 6th Most Populous Country As World’s Population Hits 8 Billion by Starpotter2(op): 8:35am On Nov 16, 2022
With 216 million people expected to live there, Nigeria is presently the sixth most populated nation in the world.

According to the most recent World Population Prospects 2022 report published by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs on November 15, 2022, World Population Day, this is the case.

The population of the globe has reportedly surpassed 8 billion people, according to the UN.

According to the estimate, just eight nations—the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and the United Republic of Tanzania—will account for more than half of the world's projected population.

India would overtake China as the world's most populous nation in 2023, it continued.

In 2020, the world's population actually decreased by less than 1%, rising at its sluggishest rate since 1950. According to the United Nations' most recent estimates, the world's population may reach 8.5 billion people in 2030 and 9.7 billion by 2050. The population is predicted to peak at 10.4 billion people in the 2080s and stay there until 2100.

The report also notes that fertility rates have dropped significantly in recent decades across many nations.

"Today, two-thirds of the world's population reside in regions or nations with lifetime fertility rates below 2.1 births per woman, or roughly the number needed to achieve long-term population growth equilibrium for a population with low mortality. The report states that due to persistently low rates of fertility and, in some cases, high rates of emigration, the populations of 61 countries or regions are expected to decline by 1 percent or more between 2022 and 2050.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and the United Republic of Tanzania are the eight nations where more than half of the projected increase in the world's population will be concentrated by the year 2050.

More than half of the increase anticipated through 2050 is expected to come from sub-Saharan African countries.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated, "This year's World Population Day falls during a historic year when we anticipate the arrival of the eight billionth person on the planet. This is a time to celebrate our differences, acknowledge our shared humanity, and be in awe of medical advancements that have dramatically lowered maternal and child mortality rates and extended lifespans.

At the same time, it serves as a reminder of our shared duty to protect the environment and a time to consider where we still fall short of our obligations to one another.

30-year-old Billionaire Who Was Richer Than Dangote 8 Months Ago Becomes Poor After Cryptocurrency Crashes

Sam Bankman-Fried, 30, one of the youngest billionaires in the world, lost all of his wealth in eight months, going from $26 billion (N11.4 trillion) to zero.

After declaring bankruptcy in the United States of America, Bankman-Fried loses his status as a billionaire or millionaire.

Bankman-Fried, who is today worth nothing, abandoned his position as CEO when his company's bankruptcy was announced.

A few months earlier, Bankman-net Fried's worth surpassed $26 billion, while the value of his business, FTX, peaked at $32 billion at the end of the previous year.

In March 2022, the Bloomberg Billionaire Index had Bankman-Fried rated five positions ahead of Aliko Dangote, and Forbes had referred to him as a crypto genius in its list of crypto billionaires.

But during the past two weeks, the value of cryptocurrencies has sharply fallen by more than 20%, wiping billions from investment accounts.

Following Bankman-fall Fried's from grace, checks showed that his name had been omitted from the Forbes and Bloomberg wealthy lists.

In response to the news, Bankman-Fried updated his Twitter account and stated: "This doesn't necessarily have to mean the end for the companies or their ability to primarily provide value and funds to their customers, and can be consistent with other routes.

Finally, I have faith that Mr. Ray and others will contribute to making the best possible arrangements.

Once more, I apologize for bringing us to this location. Let's hope a solution for recovery may be found. With any luck, this will increase their level of governance, transparency, and trust. I hope that in the end, customers will benefit more.

I'm going to start working on outlining the situation with user recovery as soon as possible.

I'm piecing everything together, but I was surprised to see events fall apart the way they did earlier this week.

He promised to write up a more thorough piece about the play-by-play "shortly, but I want to make sure that I do it properly when I do."

The most popular cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, has lost 52% of its value since the start of the crypto crash, it has been revealed.

According to experts, the then-rising US dollar and inflation contributed to the crash in part because they drove many traders to engage in massive sell-offs that forced many exchanges to halt withdrawals.

As the crash worsens and the market value of Bitcoin falls even faster, many traders in Nigeria are tallying their losses.

BREAKING: Nigeria's Adesanya loses the UFC middleweight championship by knockout against Pereira.

Isreal Adesanya of Nigeria was defeated by Alex Pereira in the fifth round to win the title of UFC middleweight.

On Sunday, November 13, 2022, in Madison Square Garden in New York City, the Brazilian defeated Adesanya in the bout under the hashtag #UFC281.

Adesanya suffered his first loss in the division and third against the Brazilian after defeats in 2016 and 2017. Pereira landed a barrage of blows, including an uppercut.

With only five UFC fights, Pereira is crowned the new undisputed champion.

The referee ended it before the buzzer, and an obviously shaken, hurt, and wobbly Adesanya was unable to keep up.

After dominating the first two rounds and shocking his opponent with a takedown in the third, Adesanya was unable to compete in the fourth.

Less than three months prior, Nigerian Kamaru Usman lost his UFC title to Leon Edwards in the main event of UFC 278.

Edward became the second-ever UFC champion from Britain after defeating Usman, the "Nigerian Nightmare."

CrimeTension As Man Shot During Daylight Robbery In Ibadan by Starpotter2(op): 7:21pm On Nov 11, 2022
Unknown man was shot after being robbed in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, in the bustling Bodija neighborhood.

On Friday, November 11, 2022, in broad daylight, the victim was shot.

According to witnesses, the armed robber shot his victim on Friday about 1 pm. The assailant rode a motorcycle.

He allegedly collected his phone and bags along the main road, then pulled out a revolver and fired at his victim.

We mistook him for a police officer, more in keeping with a movie. He went one way (wrong way driving) and enquired about the boy's possessions. He gathered a suitcase, his phones, and other items from him. He shot him after that. It took place about 1:00 PM.

Others chimed in to say that robberies had increased in frequency in Ibadan.

At the time this report was submitted, a few bystanders were making plans to transport the victim to the hospital for treatment.

At the location, sympathizers were heard making remarks and urging security personnel to take additional measures to protect people and property in the state.

EducationUNIJOS Lecturers Ordered To Stay-at-home Indefinitely Over October Half Salary by Starpotter2(op): 12:15am On Nov 05, 2022
JUST IN: UNIJOS lecturers ordered to stay-at-home indefinitely over October half-salary

The Academic Staff Union of Universities,(ASUU) University of Jos (UNIJOS) chapter has ordered its members to stay at home indefinitely, pending the payment of withheld salaries by the federal government.

The ASUU branch made this known in a statement on Friday, November 4, 2022, which was signed by the branch chairperson, Professor Lazarus Maigoro.

Recall, the union on October 16, 2022, suspended its eight-month-old strike which had shut down public universities in the country to demand full implementation of agreements it had entered into with the Federal Government a few years ago.

But on Thursday, November 3, 2022, it was reported that the government only paid lecturers for 18 working days in the month of October.

The ASUU chapter which was obviously aggrieved by the action of the government asked its members to stay at home till the payment is settled.

The statement partly reads, “One of the issues agreed at the meeting was that 50% of the backlog of eight months arrears of our withheld salaries will be paid to our members immediately but as at the time of writing this press release, only 17 days prorated October salary was paid to our members by the office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

“Having stayed for about nine months running now, our members in the University of Jos considered this an insult to them by the Accountant Gereral of the Federation.

“Is the Accountant Gencral of the Federation actually answerable to the Minister of Labour? So, if today the Minister of Agriculture directs the Accountant General of the Federation to withhold the salaries of the staff of the Agricultural Research
Institutes who have been on strike for over a year, will he obey that?

“We wonder why Ngige is keen about withholding the salaries of ASUU members because staff of some Agricultural Research Institutes have been on strike for almost a year but they have been receiving their salaries regularly. Is this policy only for ASUU members?

“We are also aware that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, wrote a memo to the Accountant General asking him to pay our members only from the day we suspended the strike.

“By this singular act, the Minister of Labour and Employment has casualised the work of the University Lecturers unfortunately.

“This further creates doubts on our minds as to whether the understanding reached with the leadership of the House of Representatives on some of the issues will be implemented at all
by those who are saddled with the responsibility of doing so in order to avoid further needless strikes.

“From all indications, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has personalised the matter between him and our union and is on a mission for vendetta.

“It has become crystal clear now that he wasn’t happy that the House of Representatives brokered a truce on some of the issues we went on strike for and has gone behind to undermine it.

“It is also very clear to us now why he shamelessly walked out on the leadership of the House of Representatives at one of the meetings with all stakeholders to the glare of all Nigerians because he never wanted any form of resolution to be reached on the issues being discussed and is the nation.

“In view of the bottleneck placed by Ngige towards paying our members the backlog of our salaries, the congress of ASUU University of Jos met today November 4, 2022 and resolved to stay at home, though not on strike until the backlog of the withheld salaries are paid.

“For the avoidance of doubt, our members are back to work, willing and ready to work but are unable to work. Based on the revised academic calendar for
the 2020/2021 session approved by the senate of the University, lectures should have started already but the challenge of lack of payment of salaries has constrained our members from going to the classroom to teach.

“What this implies is that the students who have resumed already will have to wait indefinitely while we wait for our withheld salaries to be paid to us”.

JUST IN: Another strike looms as Nigerian government pays ASUU half salaries for October

The Nigerian government has reportedly paid lecturers under the umbrella of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU ) for 18 working days in the month of October.

According to reports, a senior member of the ASUU at one of the branches who begged for anonymity disclosed this on Thursday, November 3, 2022, saying the government only paid half of salaries for the month of October.

“Yes, I only received 18 working days salary, that’s what they paid me,” he said.

Recall that on Friday, October 16, 2022, ASUU suspended its eight-month-old strike which had shut down public universities in the country to demand full implementation of agreements it had entered into with the Federal Government a few years ago.

While the strike lingered, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu Adamu, claimed that the government had resolved most of the demands of ASUU. Among the demands addressed, according to the Minister, was the release of N50 billion for the payment of earned allowances for universities’ academic and non-academic and non-academic staff.

However, ASUU refused to return to work following the government’s insistence not to pay the union’s arrears for the strike period.

The Federal Government then dragged the union to the National Industrial Court, asking the court to order the lecturer back to class. The National Industrial Court and subsequently the Court of Appeal ruled that the lecturers must return to the classroom as negotiations continue.

While speaking on what made the union suspend its strike, Osodeke, said the decision was not because issues brought by the lecturers were fully addressed.

Meta Founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday, November 3, 2022, made this announcement, saying it a “major evolution for WhatsApp”.

According to him, the new feature called Communities offers more extensive and more structured discussion groups on the messaging platform.

He also said that communities will provide users with the ability to organize and bring related groups together under one umbrella. The members can receive updates sent to the entire community and organise smaller groups to discuss topics that most matter to them.

To use the feature, users are advised to tap on the New Communities” tab at the top of their chats on the app.

Users can start a new Community or join an existing group from a list of available ones. Once a user has joined a Community, they can switch from one available group to the other as they search for information.

Besides Communities, WhatsApp also released more features to “improve the group chat experience”, including in-chat polls, larger file sharing, reactions, groups with up to 1,024 users, and shareable call links.

Meanwhile, as Meta doubled down on its monetisation drive across its family of apps, Zuckerberg had said that JioMart on WhatsApp in India was going to be a big opportunity for the paid messaging market.

During the company’s Q3 earnings call, the CEO said that paid messaging was another opportunity that we were starting to tap into.

“We launched JioMart on WhatsApp in India, and it was our first end-to-end shopping experience that showed the potential for chat-based commerce through messaging,” Zuckerberg told analysts.
