I want to put it differently,
the best time to repair a leaking roof is before the rain start to fall.

One of the main keys to success is early preparation.
You will never go wrong when you start preparing for
something early.

Many students face the disappointment of
failing the exams on their first trial while only a handful get
the satisfaction of passing all of the exams on their first attempt.

So, how do we ensure a 100% success in the exam on
our first sitting in the exams?

Well, the answer is to start preparing for it early!

Early preparation provides us with some flexibility in our study
schedule and allows room for any distraction such as
unpredictable events.

As humans, we are all
prone to procrastination, laziness, distraction,
stress and unavoidable family commitments and the list goes on and on.

Early preparation allows some room to manage some of these issues.

When I was studying for my CIS Exam, I started
Studying 5 months before the actual exam.

Everyone thought that was way too early.
However, I knew that
there was no harm in starting early
and
you could never go wrong by doing that.

Being a typical student who is
subject to distractions and procrastination,
I allowed myself to
take a one-day break from studying every week to catch
up on all of my activities that are not study related.
I would study from the beginning to the end of the week and
then be lazy for one whole day of every week.

Hence, we will look at 3 reasons why you need to prepare early

1. IT GIVES ROOM FOR UNPREDICTABLE EVENT:

Apart from the fact that
Early preparation helps you guarantee your success in the exam,
it also help manage other facets of your life like
family commitments, manage stress and
overcome procrastination.

Just like I did during my time, I was able to manage
all my social relationships
and study life with minimal hitches
because I have enough time.

I had prepared very well for this ICAN exam and was so confident after finishing the video lectures twice and answered a lot of past questions and even score 80% in the mock exam I did.

Sitting down in the exam hall with smile on my face that reflects the assurance of someone that is so sure of success. My docket, pen and calculator were on my table.

As the exam begins, I read through the instruction first, then started solving the questions. I pick up my calculator to do some calculations and to my amazement, my calculator had stopped working….. “Oh my God, I was doomed”, that is what I said in my mind…… I started sweating profusely and I became so disorganized because the course was 90% calculation.


My confidence started dropping and I noticed I started forgetting what I have read….. my brain was going blank.
I summoned courage and decided to quietly borrow a calculator from a lady beside me, but I was caught and sent out of the exam……… I wept like a baby and went home so hopeless.

LESSON 1: A day to your ICAN exam, check your calculator, docket and writing materials and make sure they are in good condition.

LESSON 2: If you need to do anything with another student, It safer to ask for permission from the examiner.

You have prepared so hard, what if Social Media is just the last minutes obstacle you need to scale-through?

Also take note that, I am not condemning social media because in this modern age it has become part our way of life and we may not be able do without it. Infact, If not for social media, you might not see this post…. You can see that it very important.

So, why should you quit social medial for ICAN exams temporarily?

According to Cal Newport, the author of the book DEEP WORK, a Business & Leadership Wall Street Journal Bestseller, he said that Facebook and other social media platforms are design to be ADDICTIVE, as a result, your time will be fragmented, which can reduce your capacity to concentrate.

• …..You noticed that when you wake up in the morning, you will check your social media first.
• …… Before you go to bed, you check your social media last.
• …… Even when you are in the church, mosque or even board meetings, you are tempted to check social media.

Cal Newport mention that Facebook use to hire ‘ATTENTION ENGINEERS’ just to grab our attention and make us stick to Facebook, that is why you see Facebook notification regularly on your phone and on your email.

Back to ICAN exams, you need not to allow your attention to be fragmented now, because you need almost full attention and concentration for you to succeed. So, if you are on leave, quit facebook, quit twitter, quit Instagram etc for now and concentrate 100% on your study. Don’t entertain any form of distraction. After the exams, you can resume social media.
If you are not on leave, do the same; quit facebook, quit twitter, quit Instagram, quit snapchat, etc. Let no other thing ring in your head apart from ICAN. Treat your ATTENTION with respect, don’t fragment it.

Whenever ICAN exam date is getting closer, exam tension/pressure could naturally set in.
Sometimes the pressure of exams may cause stress.
Stress is actually your response to pressure and,
while a small amount of pressure can be useful to keep you focused during exam time,
if it becomes too much, it could hinder your performance.
Exam tension is a normal feeling but you must not let it overwhelm you
because it could hinder your ICAN exam success.

If you're experiencing exam tension, just calm down, it’s just an exam.
Believe in yourself and don't worry excessively.
Remember that you don’t need 100% to pass ICAN exams, so it means you can actually pass.
It's natural to feel some exam nerves but don't panic.

P.S: The most effective way to eliminate feelings of stress and panic is to close your eyes and
take several long, slow deep breaths.

In today’s business environment, computers are continuing the revolution started in the 1950s.

It has become impossible for today’s enterprises of any size and in any market sector to exist without computers to assist with their fundamental business operations.

IT has transformed many professions and the accounting profession especially in an organization is not an exception.

This is because auditing work is done using paper work but in recent years, IT has changed the way audit is performed in many organization.

There are two reasons why IT auditors should use General Audit Software (GAS) products, such as Audit Command Language (ACL).

Firstly, there is the focus on fraud in recent years, according to the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and its 2009 "Report to the Nation" survey on fraud, more than 60 percent of all frauds are detected either by a tip or by accident. While internal audit has moved up on the list, there is clearly room for more proactive antifraud programs.

Secondly, is that the demands on IT and internal auditors are increasing and auditors will need to become more efficient to fulfill all of the responsibilities and tasks assigned to them, and having the knowledge on Audit Command Language is one way to do so.

This helps you to reduce the time you use to audit and also enable you to conduct your activities in a most efficient manner.

Using ACL empowers you as an auditor to possibly have a better sense of direction in your audit procedures.

You will be able to perform some audit procedures to gain an understanding of the data (e.g., using PROFILE, STATISTICS commands in ACL). During these procedures,
You will be able to spot an anomaly or red flag
(e.g., negative amounts where there should be none).

The data in ACL are locked down as read-only.

There is no chance for the auditor to inadvertently change the data.

This inadvertent risk is much higher for IT auditors who choose to use a spreadsheet for analyzing and presenting transactions. While one can lock cells or sheets in Microsoft Excel, there is still the possibility of human error. It is almost non-existent in ACL.
