Oyo State Government has announced 50 per cent reduction in the salaries of political office holders, their compensation, approval limits and government’s spending with immediate effect.

Alhaji Olalekan Alli, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), disclosed this at a news conference held in Ibadan on Monday.

Alli said that the decision was taken at the State Executive Council meeting held on Friday, Nov. 4. He said that it was a measure to shore up the dwindling revenue base of the state.

The SSG said that the state had been spending its monthly allocation from the federation account on payment of workers’ salary, which he said, stood at N5.2 billion.

Alli said that government had not reneged on its subsisting agreement with the labour unions to pay them 100 per cent of the monthly federal allocation to the state.

“The resources of government in the state dwindled as a result of the economic downturn. “In July, the state’s monthly allocation was N4 billion, N3.8 billion in Aug., N3.5 billion in Sept. and N2.8 billion in Oct. “Considering the dwindling allocation, the best is for state governments to look inward.

“This is why we are slashing the salaries of all political office holders,’’ he said. He said that the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state was still between N1 billion to N1.5 billion.

Alli said that the state government had employed the restructuring and verification exercise in the state as a means of blocking the several loopholes that allowed for waste of resources.

He said that the ongoing Biometric Verification Number (BVN) exercise in the state had revealed some ghost workers drawing multiple salaries. “We have discovered 500 people who did not come for the verification exercise to unravel their true identity,’’ he said.

Alli said that the state agriculture initiative continued with a target of two million in terms of job and food security. He said that work had reached advance stage on the 10, 000 metric tons silos being constructed in the three senatorial districts of the state.

There was confusion in Ile Ife yesterday over the restriction of movements as part of the rites of passage for the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade.



Vanguard reports that a particular drum which is only beaten and seen on the night preceding the formal announcement of Ooni’s death, was seen in the palace court. This means that the final rites that follow the demise of the king is close to the end. According to the leader of Oro cult in Ile-Ife, Oba Layi Adereti, the ‘Oro rites’ will be happening today. And locals would be told to stay in their house between 9am and 4pm when the Oro procession would move round the town to formally announce Ooni’s passage.

However, the Royal Traditional Council of Ile Ife said locals should ignore the restriction order, saying they should not panic and that they can go through their normal lawful businesses. Also, Lowa of Ife, Oba Joseph Ijaodola, in a message monitored on an Ile Ife-based radio station, said there will be no restriction of movement in the town as no Oro procession will go through the town. He also went ahead to implore newsmen to disregard any news of Oba Sijuade that does not come from the Royal Traditional Council, saying the town will deal with anyone that flout its directive on the matter.

Despite all these, residents in the area were seen buying basic needs in preparation for the restrictions that may last for hours. Long queues are seen at the ATM Machines, markets were packed full of locals buying for the ‘raining day’. Sources also made it known that non-indigenes have fled to neighbouring towns in fear. Even the Dean Students’ Affairs of OAU, late yesterday told students of the institution to stay indoors during the duration of the burial rites.

A statement by the Acting Dean, Dr. I. M. Durosinmi , said: “This is to inform the generality of students that there shall be a curfew in Ile-Ife, on Wednesday, 12th of August, 2015 from 9am to 4pm and from 11pm till dawn. “Students are therefore strongly advised to stay on campus and those off-campus to remain indoors. The Division of the Students’ Affairs counts on the maturity and sense of responsibility of Great Ife students and appeals to all students to comply with the information and continue to keep the peace.”

In a related development, governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state, spoke up on the death of the Ooni after his reported demise some weeks ago.

The death of the Ile-Ife monarch, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubise II will be formally announced on Wednesday, August 12, 2015.



This information was disclosed by the Awara of Iwara-Ife, Oba Layi Adereti, who said the preparation of the burial of the monarch will immediately commence.‎

Oba Sijuwade’s death had been denied severally by the palace chiefs. The Royal Traditional Council (RTC) of Ife had maintained that the Oba is alive and in good health, ever since reports about his death surfaced.

According to Premium Times, many of the palace chiefs were also embarrassed by the fact that the media reported the death of the monarch, instead of the traditional channels established by aged long customs of Ife land.

According to Oba Adereti, the Oro festival is the final rite of passage for the Oba Sijuwade, disclosing that between 9 am and 4 pm on Wednesday the death of Ooni would be made public officially.

Oba Adereti, who is the head of Oro Cult in Ile-Ife, warned all residents, both male and female of the ancient town to stay indoors during the Oro rites, The Nation reports.

He further revealed that after the Oro rites and proclamation, subsequent rites will follow, advising the residents of the town to abide by the heed the restriction placed in the palace area.

In the past, only women were barred when Oro festival is being carried out, but this time around, Oba Adereti warned that the festival has no respect for any gender.

He said: “This is an official statement from the palace of Awara of Iwara-Ife who is the head of Oro diety that on Wednesday 12th August 2015, there would be official proclamation of the demise of Ooni of Ife. The proclamation will be made public during the Oro festival, being the final rites on the demise of Ooni of Ife.

“The residents of the ancient town are therefore urged to keep away from the streets between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm during which the Oro diety will be out. With the announcement, people are advised to stay in-door for the period when the Oro will be out.”

Report had surfaced last week that members of a fraternity entered into Oduduwa shrine and other sacred forests on Thursday, August 6, to perform further rites on the Oba’s transition.

Even as a source at the Nigerian High Commission in the UK told newsmen last week that the Ife monarch’s remains are still in London. The revered monarch died at Saint Mary Hospital in London two weeks ago.

President Muhammadu Buhari on August 5, Wednesday, in Abuja has unveiled his plans for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Nigerian leader promised that his government will take all required actions to maintain and improve the programme as a functional vehicle for the promotion of national unity and integration.

Buhari made the pledge after receiving a briefing from officials of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development led by Rabi Jimeta, the permanent secretary.



He affirmed his confidence and trust in the NYSC, adding that the objective for which the scheme was constituted in 1973 was still very applicable for national development now.

The president said: “I firmly believe in NYSC and I think it should remain a national programme to promote integration.

“Whenever I go home to Daura, I look out for Corps members from Lagos, Aba and other parts of the country.

“I am always thrilled to learn that except for the NYSC, some of them have never left their states of origin to visit other cities in the country.”

On her own part, Jimeta told President Buhari that the increasing number of NYSC members posed a challenge to the programme due to the decreasing revenue, from the national budget, to provide their needs.

She told Buhari that the yearly enrolment of corps participants had increased from 2,364 at inception in 1974 to 229,016 in 2014.

“Given the increasing number of tertiary institutions, our projection is that the number of corps participants may rise to 300,000 by year 2020,” she said.

It should be noted that the NYSC scheme was created in a bid to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild the country after the Nigerian Civil war.

The unfortunate antecedents in Nigeria’s national history gave impetus to the establishment of the programme by decree No.24 of 22nd May 1973 which stated that the NYSC is being established “with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity”.

Political economist and dean of Lagos Business school, Professor Pat Utomi, has added his voice to the growing concerns in some section of the country over President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointments that tends to focus on a particular zone in the country.



Utomi stated that Buhari has the power to appoint whoever he feels can help deliver on his change mandate to Nigerians.

The professor of political economics remark is coming on the heel of reaction from Nigerians, especially those from the South-Eastern part of the country who had expressed great concern over what they described as lopsided appointment that is focused more on the North.

According to Daily Independent, Utomi said described the criticism of President Buhari as ‘small and petty’ saying that the president can make all his appointments from one village as long as those appointed can get the job done.

The President can appoint everybody from one village. As long as the people can get the job done, let them get it done. That is what Nigerians wanted and that is what they voted for.”

The sources say that President Muhammadu Buhari will very soon appoint the new Group Managing Director in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The next director of NNPC may become Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, the executive vice chairman of ExxonMobil Africa, the Will reports.

According to sources, who pledged to be anonymous, President Buhari met with Kachikwu on August 3, to complete talks on his vision for the state owned corporation, which has been tangled in accusation of corruption and dubious accounting practices.

“Dr. Kachikwu will be announced anytime from today,” the insider said.

The nomination reportedly is one of the many to come in Buhari’s bid to rid the NNPC of corruption.

Chief Priest of Ile Ife, Olajide Farotimi Faloba, has explained to Vanguard how the next paramount traditional ruler of the ancient Ile-ife would be chosen.

According to him, the four ruling houses will choose the person who could be crowned Ooni after the chief priest might have referred the Ifa oracle.

Faloba while disclosing that he will name the next Ooni said: “I am the Chief priest and the king-maker to the Ooni stool because I am the mouthpiece of the gods. So, if there should be coronation, I will be the one that will pronounce it.”

“There are 401 Yoruba deities and temples scattered worldwide, 201 of them are in Ife. Among these deities, the only speaking one is the legendary living Ooni. If it happens that an Ooni dies, there are sacrifices and signs that will be performed. Part of them is the closing of the palace main gate.

“Also, the messenger will go around the town with a gong to announce the demise, while the trees in the ancient town will be cut down, markets will remain shut to customers and the entire Ife city will be thrown into mourning.“

“There will not be any form of ceremony of burial while other traditional rites and rituals will take place as the oracle reveals.

”Also, if an Ooni dies, the 201 deities temples will be duly informed.”

He further spoke on the selection process: “The chief priest said the kingmakers would pick one person from all Ife Princes that show interest in the stool and Ifa oracle would be consulted on the choice before the final ratification by the chief priest. It was gathered that there are four ruling houses that could be enthroned as the Ooni of Ife and they are: Osinkola, Ogboru, Lafogido and Giesi.”

Faloba added that before presenting to the public, the new Ooni may have to spend some days in Ile Oduduwa where the first Ooni lived and other past Ooni with the priests when other rituals would be performed.

“When ever there is a demise of Ooni, the kingmaker and the Ifa Oracle will pick the next Ooni. 10 or 20 princes may contest after they might have been presented by their families, but the Ifa priest will consult the oracle that will choose while myself as the kingmaker will perform the necessary rituals that will certify him to mount the throne of Ooni; without this rituals, such potential monarch would not be Ooni,” the priest added.

“Yoruba has a rich tradition. The age-long culture gives form, content and predictability to the beliefs of its people. The custom has been inherited from generation to generation. The symbol of the unity of the race is kingship. Its cradle is Ile-Ife, the cherished sacred abode of its progenitor, Oduduwa.”

After determining that the Ooni has died, the palace chiefs are expected to inform the other Oduduwa children.

It would be recalled that sources said that the king died in a London hospital after he was rushed to the UK last week.

However, the palace denied the reports, saying that Ooni is alive and in good state of health.

There are rumors regarding the death of the Ooni of Ife, the palace of the late Oba is still denying his passing, but Premium Times’s report at the weekend revealed that his body has already been secretly flown into Nigeria.



The report by premium times says that the remains have been placed within the palace to enable death rites of passage to commence.

His death is expected to be officially announced only when the required traditional rituals are concluded in Ile-Ife.

According to Sahara reporters, the Ooni was rushed to London on Friday July 24, and was taken from Heathrow Airport in an Ambulance to the clinic where he passed four days later.

However, tradition demands, that the death of Ooni is wrapped in secrecy by the traditional council in Ile-Ife.

Information obtained from SaharaReporters has confirmed the death of the monarch, but the traditional council, which began the required rites of passage last weekend, still maintains that the Ooni is “hale and hearty”.

One obvious reason given to corroborate the Oba’s death claim, is the conspicuous absence of the Oba at his son’s wedding yesterday, Sunday, July 2, in which he was represented by his traditional staff of office.

Meanwhile, following the alleged death of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, traditionalists in Ile-Ife, Osun state, have declared a seven-day sacred traditional Oro festival.

During the seven-day period of the festival, residents of the ancient town, especially women must not stay outside beyond p.m.

Though the reason for the declaration of the Oro festival was not known, informed sources believe it might be in connection with the alleged death of the traditional ruler of the town, the Ooni of Ife, which his chiefs have continued to dismiss and described as mere rumour.

The deadly Boko Haram sect has released new beheading video, making more threats against the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.



The militants unveiled a video showing part of their main battle tanks, armoured personnel carrier and huge artillery arsenal, which they recently captured.

The video also shows the beheading of a Nigerian police officer. They also made a call to all believers of Islam to join them in fighting against the current government.

It should be noted that the video was unveiled few hours after President Buhari pledged to crush Boko Haram by the end of 2015.

Buhari made the vow during the gala lunch held in his honour by the President of Benin Republic, Boni Yayi on August 1. In their speeches, both leaders spoke on the need to counter Boko Haram.

Boko Haram set a terrifying precedent by releasing another gruesome video of a beheading on July 10, 2015, since it pledged allegiance to ISIS.

Following the announcing of alliance with Islamic State Boko Haram group renamed itself the Islamic group empire in West Africa, or ‘West African Province’ of the Islamic State (in another translation).

Since the All Progressives Congress (APC) led – administration was sworn in on May 29, the media has been awash with news of alleged corruption in high places perpetuated by the past administration of Goodluck Jonathan. While these allegations are yet to be verified by a court of competent jurisdiction, it is however worthy to note that these accusations are weighty and should note be swept under the carpet.

The near future of Goodluck Jonathan could be behind bars if a court of law finds him guilty of the alleged corruption and financial recklessness said to have characterised his administration as claimed by the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

While some may be tempted to accuse President Buhari of demonizing and blackmailing the out-gone regime to score cheap political points, it is of note that these allegations have been backed by facts which can be verified.



The Damning Revelation

President Buhari recently returned from a four day visit to the United States where he had discussions with his American counterpart, Barrack Obama on issues bothering on the two countries.

The the meeting between the two leaders included extensive bilateral talks where the US promised to work with Nigeria in strong socio-economic support programmes. The US also promised to lend its support to Nigeria in the fight against terrorism, in addition to rebuilding the Nigerian economy.

But the highlights of Buhari’s US visit was the revelation by the president that Goodluck Jonathan allegedly oversaw one of the most corrupt governments Nigeria has ever had.

During the trip, Buhari disclosed at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC in an interacting with Nigerians in the Diaspora that his administration had begun receiving documents to prosecute Jonathan’s ministers and other government officials who stole “mind-boggling” oil funds.

In a Punch report dated JULY 23, 2015, Buhari reportedly said the documents at his disposal indicted some former ministers and other top government officials of massive fraud, including oil theft.

“The amount of money is mind-boggling but we have started getting documents. We have started getting documents where some of the senior people in government, former ministers, some of them operated as much as five accounts and were moving about one million barrels per day on their own. We have started getting those documents.

“I assure you that whichever documents we are able to get and subsequently trace the sale of the crude or transfer of money from ministries, departments, Central Bank, we will ask for the cooperation of those countries to return those monies to the Federation Accounts,” the president said.

While the allegations against Jonathan’s former ministers are yet to be verified, they should not be trivialized as a vendetta mission because Buhari has developed a reputation of not speaking anyhow.

To buttress this, while serving as president, Goodluck Jonathan once lamented that about 300,000-400,000 barrels of oil was being lost daily as a result of crude oil theft. On another occasion, in an interview with Amanpour of CNN, he pleaded with the international community to help Nigeria combat oil theft which he alleged was done in league with some foreign help.

But the recent revelations by Buhari has not only indicted the previous ministers who served under Jonathan, but Jonathan himself, who has been accused of creating an enabling environment for these plunders to loot the nation’s treasury.

Jonathan: Giulty Or Not Guilty?

While Jonathan cried foul and pointed accusing fingers at the international community for not doing enough to help Nigeria combat oil theft, he refused to scrutinize his so called ministers who have now been accused of championing the oil theft.

Facts have shown that Goodluck Jonathan is either by commission or omission culpable in the massive corruption allegedly perpetrated in the country during his regime.

In February 2014, the immediate past governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido, wrote to Jonathan, alleging that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had failed to remit $20bn being part of the income it generated from the sale of crude oil to the federation account.

But Jonathan chose to side with his ministers and interpreted Sanusi’s letter as an attempt to discredit his administration. The allegations culminated in a surprise suspension of Sanusi.

In February 2015, Chukwuma Soludo, another former CBN boss, in an article titled ‘Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the missing trillions’, alleged that the sum of N30 trillion had been stolen under the watch of the minister of finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. But rather than address the issues raised by Soludo in his article, Dr Iweala came smoking hot, asserting that Soludo performed poorly as governor of the Central Bank during his tenure as governor. The Jonathan administration again failed woefully in convincing Nigerians that no funds were lost.

He Who Comes To Equity Must Come With Cleans Hands

The alleged financial recklessness exhibited by the Jonathan administration was brought to limelight following the defeat suffered by the former president and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the March 28 and April 11 elections.

A report in The Punch of APRIL 19, 2015, reported that Jonathan after his loss, asked the party and government officials, who handled campaign funds, to refund unspent monies, or those not judiciously expended.

The newspaper citing sources within the party reported that over N2tr in cash was distributed to campaign coordinators, ministers, special advisers, close aides and friends, support groups and traditional rulers, in a bid buy votes.

Even though Jonathan has denied these allegations, the frantic efforts being put by him to avoid a probe by President Muhammadu Buhari on how $2.1billion was illegally withdrawn from the Excess Crude Account (ECA), during his tenure, among other alleged corrupt deeds has raised suspicion.

A report in The Nation dated July 15, 2015, said Jonathan was greatly disturbed by Buhari’s determination to probe his administration. He was said to have protested to the Gen. Abubakar Abdulsalami National Peace Committee for 2015 general elections to stop the probe of the whereabouts of the $4billion taxes and dividends paid by the Nigerian Liquified Natural gas Ltd between 2009 and 2014.

Another matter that has gotten Jonathan and his ministers afraid according to sources, is the probe on how the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) under his watch allegedly blew N3.8trillion in three years.

As if trying to hide skeletons in his cupboard, Jonathan shortly before Buhari was sworn in begged the incoming president not to single his administration out for probe.

Hiding under the excuse of witch hunt, he said if Buhari must investigate him and his administration, he should do the same for the past governments from 1960 up to this time.

The question begging for answer is, If Jonathan is as innocent as he claims, why he is doing all in his power to avoid probe?

He who comes to equity must come with cleans hands, but are Jonathan’s hands clean? Only a genuine probe would establish this.

A combined effort by the Nigerian Airforce (NAF) and the Nigerian Army has thwarted the efforts of terrorist group, Boko Haram, to successfully cause harm in Bita Village, Borno state.

The Nigerian Air Force, using its Alpha-Jet, provided combat air support to the Nigerian Army troops on ground to attack the insurgents where they were observed after close monitoring to be gearing up to attack the village.

The Director of Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Dele Alonge, in a statement made available to Daily Post, said many of the insurgents were killed and several others were injured.
After repelling the attack,, the NAF A-Jet conducted an armed reconnaissance along Bita-Gwoza road and through Yamtege, Hamdaga, Dure and Pulka.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s new Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, has promised that the Nigerian army under his watch will restructure its operations to effectively tackle the insurgency ravaging the North eastern part of the country.

The Vice President of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbanjo was recently spotted by a lady in an eatery.



The lady who was humbled by his meeting took to her instagram page to share her encounter with him.

She wrote;
“Today I have seen and felt the change we have craved and chanted for so long. Today I have seen humility like no other. Today I have seen the face of a new Nigeria.
I walked into chop sticks and there he was, full of smiles as my eye caught his. He was having a meeting with someone. With only one Security aid, he sat in a full restaurant. No restrictions whatsoever. People walked in and out freely like it was any other day. As I approached him, his aid stopped me with a very straight and unfriendly face and immediately he called out to him.. “Let her come, please let her come”. After talking, I asked if I could take a picture and he was more than happy to pose. As I took this snap, he said “I’m glad you didn’t catch me eating” ••• Renewed hope for a new Nigeria ”

Several Nigerians have criticised men of God who live in affluence while many of their church members live in penury. The usual victims of such criticism are pastors who own private jets, among other luxurious things.

Former Congress for Progressive Change vice presidential candidate and founder of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare has done what Nigerians advise pastors who claim most of the things Nigerians talk about are gifts. He rejected a Rolls Royce!

Ministering during the inauguration and commissioning of Grace and Glory Chapel in Ikeja, Lagos, Bakare said some persons brought him a 2015 model of Rolls Royce during his 60th birthday, but he outrightly rejected it, saying that he was not in need of such exotic car while majority of Nigerians are wallowing in poverty.

“I am not in need of a 2015 model of Rolls-Royce which was presented to me as a gift.

“I was sitting at home one day and they brought in a brand new 2015 Rolls-Royce into my house. My 60th birthday was coming. I looked at it, kai! This is awkward. When you open your car, your door goes this way, its own door goes that way. It clears the way so that there is nothing blocking your way.

“I saw a button. They said: it is an umbrella sir. It is on every door in case it is raining, you just push it and the umbrella comes out. I said: Na wa o. Then I said: Oya, leave this place.

“Where is the road that I will ride it upon? My heart is not in things like this. I asked my son to take a photograph of the brand new car as a proof,” the running mate of Muhammadu Buhari at the 2011 presidential election said.

“I want to see good governance. I want to see discipline. I want to see equitable distribution of resources. I want to see the poor being educated. I want to see a nation that works,” Bakare said.

“I don’t want to be a local champion in a city of the blind.”
