PhonesConfirmed: Samsung’s New Smartwatch Arrives On August 31st See Price And Photos by stephen8080(op): 10:38am On Aug 17, 2016
IFA 2016 in Berlin is upon us and as usual, that means its time to see some new iterations of devices as we’ve become accustomed to over the years. One particular regular guest at IFA every year is Samsung’s Gear smartwatch.

This year, it will be the Gear S3 which will join another upcoming Samsung device, the Tab S3, as Samsung confirmed in an “official invitation” posted on its website as well as its social media accounts.

With the Galaxy Note 7 safely out of the way, the stage is set for Samsung to show the world what it has been working on behind the scenes since same time last year when it debuted the Gear S2.

Read: All Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Users Will Enjoy Free 15GB Cloud Storage

The Gear S2 broke with tradition and became the first smartwatch to feature a rotating bezel which functioned the same way a crown does in ordinary watches. The Gear S3 is said to keep that rotating bezel while adding several new features of its own like measuring altitude, atmospheric pressure, speed and distance travelled. This will be thanks to the inclusion of new barometer, altimeter and integrated GPS sensors in the device.

CelebritiesVanessa Onyema: People Always Leave by stephen8080(op): 10:55pm On Aug 14, 2016
I loved One Tree Hill in my early teens.

It wasn’t a fairy tale kind of series. It was real; so real that you thought you were watching a reality show. It told life as it is. At the end or beginning of each episode a quote was narrated by a character, most times it was from Lucas Scott.

The quotes were so inspiring that I always wrote them down in my book. I read them to myself daily. Of all the quotes I memorised, one stuck with me forever: ‘people always leave’

Peyton Sawyer said that she believed she was a troubled girl. I believed I was like Peyton. She had metallic rock albums arranged alphabetically in her room. She had a podcast. She was a fluid artist. She was blonde, but never dumb.

I saw myself in Peyton because we both believed we are supposed to be alone. I struggled with my writing for months, I wanted to write something that means something to someone. Like when you go see a really great band live for the first time and no one is saying it but everyone’s thinking it. I wanted to write that feeling, but I can’t.

There was no mental space to think, or be productive. I blamed myself; is it me? Am I the reason people always leave? Am I the reason all these things keep happening to me? Maybe I’m just destined to be alone.

Everyone moved forward, maybe the way I saw it, but I didn’t. People call it depression; I should probably sit in a shrink’s office and bare my thoughts, but I am an African. Time doesn’t heal all wounds, we learn to live with it.

In those troubled moments of mine when I didn’t believe I deserved happiness. I lost a real chance to be happy, I lost an opportunity to pick myself up. Maybe I thought I deserved it all.

People are going to disappoint you, I get that, I kind of expect that but, what happens if one day you wake-up and realise you are the disappointment? What happens then?

You move on…

You dust yourself up, hang out more often and discover yourself. If you have the means, travel. Eat your favourite kind of food, read a good book, share a nice laugh, make every second of your life count because there is no second chance at life. We all have one shot to get it right.

The best gift man was given freely – oxygen. So whenever I want to wallow in self pity, I remind myself constantly that I am still breathing.

Peyton Sawyer said people always leave… But sometimes they come back.

CrimeArmy Declares Journalist, 2 Others Wanted Following The Release Of Boko Haram’s by stephen8080(op): 10:33pm On Aug 14, 2016
The Nigerian Army on Sunday declared three persons, including a woman, wanted allegedly in connection with the over 200 Chibok girls abducted by Boko Haram since 2014.

They are Ahmad Salkida, (Ambassador) Ahmed U. Bolori and Aisha Wakil.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, the wanted persons have information on the conditions and the exact location of those girls.‬

“Therefore, the Nigerian Army hereby declares the two gentlemen and the lady wanted for interrogation.

We are relying on the relevant laws of the land, and in particular the Terrorism Prevention Act 2011 (as amended) where Nigerians could be punished for failure to disclose information about terrorists or terrorists” activities. ‬

This becomes necessary as a result of their link with the last two videos released by Boko Haram Terrorists and other findings of our preliminary investigations.

There is no doubt that these individuals have links with Boko Haram Terrorists and have contacts with them.

They must therefore come forward and tell us where the group is keeping the Chibok Girls and other abducted persons to enable us rescue them,” Usman said.

He called on all Nigerians and other peace-loving people to give useful information on the whereabouts of the suspects. “We are also liaising with other security agencies for their arrest if they fail to turn up,” he said.

PoliticsBoko Haram: UN Not Serious To Provide Relief Support For Idps- Northern Clerics by stephen8080(op): 6:05pm On Jul 30, 2016
Following reports by the children’s agency of the United Nations, UNICEF, that it is pulling out its aid workers from the north east region after Boko Haram reportedly ambushed their convoy, the Northern Inter-Faith and Religious Organizations for Peace (NIFROM) has said the world humanitarian body was never ready to provide relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the north east.

Source Nigerian News

The group which condemned the attack in its strongest term, however said the attack was just a deliberate excuse for the U.N. to suspend its relief operations and pull out its workers.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, National Cordinator of NIFROM, Bishop Musa Fomson commended the military for repelling the attack and thanked the officers of the army for their sacrifice in maintaining security of lives in the north east.

He said, “It is hypocritical that the same world body that that did not do the needful to halt Boko Haram’s rise are the same agencies that are today making a show of providing relief to affected persons. Had there been a prompt international response to the threat of Boko Haram in the initial stage we would not be at this point now.

“It took the horror pictures that emerged from the Internally Displaced Person’s (IDPs) camps in North Eastern Nigeria to provoke the intervention for which the convoy came under attack. Interestingly, it took just that one attack for the UN to announce a suspension of the humanitarian efforts.

“The feeling we have is that the attack provided a much needed excuse for these agencies that have no interest in doing anything for the tens of thousands of people dislocated by Boko Haram. Had there been no attack it would have been a question of time before they cook up another excuse that would have still been used to suspend the so-called humanitarian efforts.”

The clerics also slammed the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki for not carrying out a proper assessment of the situation before reacting to it.

It said had Dr Saraki and his likes done right by the country as expected of their positions we would not be here having nationals of other countries give handouts to our distressed brothers and sisters.

“The amounts allocated for the North East would have done something meaningful towards rehabilitating the population had the institution, the National Assembly, that Dr Saraki presides over as chairman performed its oversight functions diligently and curb the corruption associated with local relief efforts.

“For those who do not understand our grouse, the Senate President and the UN have been insensitive to what happens in the North East over the years. Many Nigerians have been killed and or maimed on the same road by terrorists in the past without them taking any notice neither did they show the sympathy now being shown to the aid workers. For us this is hypocrisy at work.

“We therefore urge Nigerians to accept that it is their responsibility to rise up to the challenge and support their brethren. It is now glaring that we must forget about the inadequate and often strung out humanitarian assistance that serves no purpose other than providing photo ops for those behind them,” he said.

PoliticsArmy Releases Arrested Tompolo Associates by stephen8080(op): 7:15am On Jul 30, 2016
By Emma Amaize, Regional Editor, South-South, Egufe Yafugborhi and Perez Brisibe
WARRI- THE Nigeria Army has released three suspected associates of runaway ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, arrested about a fortnight ago in Warri, Delta State, on suspicion that they have link with the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA and know the whereabouts of the runaway ex-militant leader.

Two of the suspects, Simeone Bebenimibo, a member of the Delta Waterways and Land Security Committee, DWLSC, Warri and Bomby Oluba hail from Okerenkoko community, Gbaramatu kingdom in the state. The other, Ayiri, an Itsekiri, is a driver to the Chief Security Officer, CSO, to Tompolo, Ebipade Kari.

Tompolo cried out, last week, in an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, cried out that his family and associates were under siege by the army, navy and DSS, while his 84-year-old father, Chief Thomas Ekpemupolo, brutalized by soldiers had his leg amputated recently by doctors to save his life.

He pointed fingers at two APC politicians in the state, who he said were working in connivance with security agents to tarnish his image because of their greed for money and pipeline contracts.

His family in a statement by Frank Ekpemupolo also decried the continued military assault and brutality on members, saying the witch-hunt of Tompolo by APC leaders in the area does not represent national interest.

The family appealed to President Buhari “to put to an end these political and military madness directed at the Niger Delta and Ekpemupolo’s family in particular.”

I know the person that framed me – Bebenimibo
Saturday Vanguard spoke with Bebenimibo, on phone, yesterday. He said: “Actually, I know nothing about the Niger Delta Avengers. I am a politician, a onetime councilor representing Gbaramatu ward, Okerenkoko, one- time SA on Security to Governor Timipre Sylva and presently, Member, Delta State Waterways and Lands Security Committee.”

“Before I was arrested, I was receiving threat messages on my phone from one of my younger cousins, that I am part of the Niger Delta Avengers and that he is going to arrest me.

“I told him that if you are the one that is going to arrest me, I would be very proud because I would know where my problems are coming from, but though I never believed he was go to go through with his plan,” he said.

Bebenimibo stated: “My arrest was a setup and I am saying this categorically because when I was arrested, members of my immediate and extended family confronted the person having being aware of earlier threat messages he sent to me.”

“When accosted, he boasted to them that I am going to rot in detention as far as the APC government, which he is a member is in power for having the effrontery to boast with him,” he added.

How they arrested me
“On the day of my arrest, I think on the 17th or18th of July, I was in my house at about 1.00 a.m, before I knew what was going on, soldiers invaded my compound in Warri. Owing to the fact that everywhere was locked up, they jumped into the compound through the fence, using a ladder from inside the compound, stretched it on the house, which is a duplex and climbed into one of the balcony in the apartment.

”At the balcony, there is an adjourning door, which they broke down to enable them gain access into the apartment. Inside the apartment, they went to the bedroom of my eldest son, who is 12 years old, apprehended him and asked him to take them to my room.

“Inside my room, I asked the operation officer, who is an Army Captain that led them to my room what is the problem? He then told me that someone reported me to them that I am a member of the Niger Delta Avengers. Right there, I told him that I do not know about anything that he is talking about and there is nothing I am going to say on the matter,” he said.
My release
Bebenimibo said: “Not satisfied, I was taken away to the 3 Battalion, Effurun, near Warri, amidst sufferings and was detained for 11 or 12 days, but after their investigations, they did not find anything incriminating against me. They were making plans to transfer me to Asaba or Bayelsa, but by the special Grace of God, I was released on Thursday at about 6.00 p.m.”

He told Saturday Vanguard: “I cannot really tell what they found out in the course of my interrogation, but to the best of my knowledge, I am free of the allegations and that was why I was released unconditionally, but earlier, they were telling me that I am innocent of the allegations leveled against me. Personally, I am embarrassed by the incident.”

“I was interrogated severally while in custody. They asked if I know anything about the Niger Delta Avengers, I told them no.

What they asked me about Tompolo
“They also asked me who is Tompolo and who he is to me, I told them that Tompolo is my leader, my cousin and my Oga, but I do not know if he is the Avenger. However, that he is my brother, but I have not spoken with him for a while because of these problems and I do not know where he is.

“ They also asked about some of his (Tompolo) boys that were working with him, I also told them that I do not know anything about that, as I have not seen them for some time now and that though, I know them in person, I do not know anything about them,” he said.

His words: “They never fed me and even if they had tried to, I do not think I would have been able to eat their food, but the CO was a very kind man to us. He ordered his boys to allow us buy whatever food we want to eat and I was spending my money for feeding while we were in detention.”

“Soldiers arrested me in company of one of my cousins, Bomboy Oluba, together with one Ayiri, an Itsekiri driver to the Chief Security Officer, CSO, to Tompolo, Ebipade Kari, on allegation that he knows the whereabouts of Tompolo.

“He was brought in a day after my arrest; three of us have been released. They did not tell us to return for further briefing or interrogation on the matter, as we were all released unconditionally,” he said.

PoliticsRead How Shehu Of Bama’s Wife Escaped Boko Haram Camp by stephen8080(op): 7:07am On Jul 30, 2016
For about two years, the Queen and wife of the prominent Shehu of Bama in Borno State has experienced the bitter side of life by leaving the comfort of palace life to living in the forest with deadly Boko Haram insurgents who two years ago, stormed the palace after invading the town and whisked her and her daughter away.
The troubles of Hajja Hajju Hayatuddeen started on September 1, 2014 when armed insurgents invaded Bama town, stormed the palace, looted it, set it ablaze and took away Hajju and her daughter Amma to Sambisa Forest where they lived for close to two years.

Hajjo was said to have just taken her bath and was set for the day as her servants were busy trying to fix the palace when suddenly insurgents attacked, while the Shehu was out of town on official engagement.
The following day, the Shehu visited his destroyed palace in Bama before relocating to Maiduguri the state capital where he lived for close to two years without his wife until Sunday, July 24, 2016 when the wife escaped from her captors.

When Daily Trust visited the GRA resident of the Shehu of Bama in Maiduguri where Queen Hajju is now staying with Princess Amma and other members of the family, the Shehu of Bama was seen sitting on a chair with visitors who came to congratulate him over the return of his wife and daughter.
As it is the tradition in most palace in northern Nigeria, Daily Trust could not have access to the queen and her daughter who were in the house but the overexcited palace aides who could not be mentioned by name were quick in telling reporters that “Nobody rescued the queen as reported by the media. She told us that she escaped from Boko Haram in Sambisa Forest where she was being held for almost two years along with her daughter.”
One palace source said: “She told us when we went to sympathize with her that they left the camp very early in the morning when others were sleeping. She said only one woman saw when they were leaving, but she could not escape along with them because two of her sons were in custody of the insurgents. The queen said they trekked for two days before getting to Damboa where they met the military. She said on getting to Damboa soldiers saw them at the entrance to the town and forced her to throw away the food flask she held, and were asked to raise their hands before approaching the military checkpoint some meters away, because the soldiers were suspecting them to be suicide bombers.”
The source said even at the checkpoint where she told them she is the wife of the Shehu of Bama and had just escaped from a Boko Haram camp, she was asked to stay meters away from the checkpoint while the soldiers communicated with their commanders before taking her to Maiduguri where she was kept in a military facility for two days, before being reunited with her husband.
The source said they also asked her about life at the insurgents camp, and if the insurgents knew her status and whether they accorded her some special treatment. “She told us that they knew she was the wife of the Shehu of Bama because she was abducted in the palace, but she was forced to live out in the open, without special treatment. She said the camp she was kept is in Sambisa Forest, and had captives and insurgents in hundreds and the place has not been attacked by the military so far. She said when they took her there newly, they were serving rice and yam for meals but lately, they were serving them cooked guinea corn.”
“She told us that the food flask the military asked her to throw away was containing their last dinner of cooked guinea corn. She said whenever it rains they take shelter under trees as they have no huts to enter.”
The source said the palace staff are happy that the queen and her daughter are back safely because the Shehu has been so worried over their disappearance, adding, “You know the insurgents killed his son before abducting the wife and daughter. Naturally, one must be worried. The queen has been very kind to all the palace staff. She even attends to our personal problems. Anytime our wives come to greet her, she gives them gifts like clothes or money. We are really happy she is back,” the source said.

Foreign AffairsWe’re Going To Stop Migrants From Coming To The US – Trump by stephen8080(op): 6:52am On Jul 30, 2016
Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump traded insults at opposite ends of the country Friday, taking their fight for the White House to rival battleground states and portraying starkly different visions of America.

One of the most divisive US campaigns in modern history is entering a new chapter with Republicans and Democrats having selected their nominees, leaving the candidates slogging it out before election day on November 8.

News source Nigerian News

Clinton followed her historic acceptance speech on Thursday as the first woman presidential nominee for a major party with a rally in Philadelphia before embarking on a bus tour of Rust Belt states Pennsylvania and Ohio.

In Colorado, a key western state, her Republican opponent promised “no more Mr Nice Guy.” He trashed Clinton’s speech as “average,” called her a liar and promised to end the migration of Syrian refugees.

“I’m starting to agree with you,” the 70-year-old told supporters chanting “lock her up, lock her up” in Colorado Springs. “I’m taking the gloves off,” he said. “Just remember this Trump is going to be no more Mr Nice Guy.”

Just over 100 days before the election, Americans are being asked to choose between two sharply polarized visions — and between two monumentally unpopular candidates.

“I can’t think of an election that is more important, certainly in my lifetime,” Clinton told supporters at the rally in Philadelphia.

The 68-year-old Democrat portrays Trump as a threat to democracy, and is seeking to both woo moderate Republicans repelled by the former reality TV star and shore up a coalition with progressives on the left of her party.

– ‘Peachy keen’ –

“Donald Trump painted a picture, a negative, dark, divisive picture of a country in decline,” she said.

“I’m not telling you that everything is peachy keen — I’m telling you we’ve made progress, but we have work to do.”

She promises to focus on parts of the country that have been “left out and left behind” — constituencies where declining living standards, fears about safety and lost jobs have fueled support for Trump.

Trump, who has never previously held office, portrays himself as the law and order candidate — the outsider who will shake up an out-of-touch Washington, restore jobs, cut the deficit and end illegal immigration.

“This country, if they choose her, this country will not be in good shape,” Trump told ABC News on Friday.

“She doesn’t know how to win, she’s not a winner,” he said in an excerpt of the interview set to air Sunday.

In Colorado, Trump goaded Clinton on her failure to hold a news conference since December and accused her of lying to the FBI over its investigation of her email scandal as secretary of state.

“We’re going to stop the Syrian migrants from coming into the United States,” he said referring to the killing of a French priest, whose attackers proclaimed allegiance to the Islamic State extremist group.

Trump’s campaign released a new ad Friday claiming that in Clinton’s America “things get worse” with taxes going up, terrorism spreading and voters losing jobs, homes and hope.

“Change that makes America great again,” the video promised.

– Negative partisanship –

Clinton needs to win over some of the disgruntled working class voters that form the backbone of Trump’s base. She has blasted Trump for making so many of his products overseas, and for alienating women, Hispanics and Muslims.

Clinton — accompanied by her husband Bill, and her running mate Virginia Senator Tim Kaine and his wife Anne Holton — is on a campaign tour of so-called Rust Belt states, vital parts of almost any strategy to garner the 270 electoral college votes needed to win the presidency.

The candidate and her team were moving in Pennsylvania in a convoy of more than two dozen vehicles, including two large buses with the campaign slogan “Stronger Together” emblazoned on the side in giant letters.

Clinton stopped at a toy factory in the town of Hatfield, underlining the priority that she would give to manufacturing jobs. Then the convoy proceeded to an afternoon outdoor rally in the town of Harrisburg.

Experts predict that “negative partisanship” — voting against a candidate — will play a major role in deciding who makes it to the White House.

Clinton’s unpopularity is second only to Trump’s, with a disapproval rating of 55 percent compared to his 57 percent, according to recent averages.

Ratings from Nielsen showed that 2.2 million more people had tuned into watch Trump’s acceptance speech last week than Clinton’s on Thursday.

When it comes to voter intentions, Trump and Clinton are in a statistical dead heat, according to the most recent poll average from RealClearPolitics.

PoliticsBoko Haram: Read What Saraki Did After Insurgents Attacked UN Convoy by stephen8080(op): 12:03am On Jul 30, 2016
Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, the Senate President on Friday, July 29, called for calm as the United Nation’s announced that it would be suspending aid deliveries in Nigeria.

The UN’s decision comes after a United Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF) humanitarian convoy was attacked while traveling from Bama to Maiduguri in Borno State.

Saraki in a statement by his media office, condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms, stating that it was unacceptable to endanger the lives of aid workers, who were only trying to assuage the situation in the northeast.

“This unfortunate situation has led to the United Nation’s temporarily suspending its rehabilitation-related aid deliveries to parts of the North East,” the Senate President said, while adding that “this is a major cause for concern as overtime, the Nigerian military has recorded significant successes in routing the insurgency and many foreign donor agencies have expressed their preparedness to join in the North East restoration efforts.”

Saraki further called for an immediate review of the security situation in the North East by the relevant authorities, stating that it was necessary to alleviate the concerns of international partners who are set to help rebuild the crisis-torn areas.

“I also urge our military, the Department of State Security and the Police, to commence an immediate security re-evaluation and review of the entire North East zone in order to allay the fears of our donor partners. The partners are important to Nigeria’s work to reposition the North East after months of decimation at the hands of Boko Haram,” he stated.

With the temporary suspension of the United Nations’ activities in the region, the Senate President called on the Presidential Initiative for the North East (PINE), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to immediately address the shortfall that will arise from the cessation of donations of food and medicines.

“Effective action must be taken in the interim. We need to make sure that no lives are lost due to the temporary suspension of UN aid,” he added.

Saraki further called on the UN to resume its activities in North East as soon as possible, while reassuring Nigerians and the international community that the Senate would fast-track the passage of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) Bill, which aims to create a legislative framework and multi-state platform for the coordination of relief and donations to the zone.

Following the submission of the Report of its Public Hearing by the Senate Committee on Special Duties, the bill Following the bill is awaiting third and final reading before being passed.

The Senate President had on July 18 led a delegation to Maiduguri in Borno state where he pledged that the Senate would look into the issue of malnutrition and shortage of medical supplies in the North East. DC Bill is currently awaiting its third and final reading in the Senate.

Two days later, through a Point of Order raised by Senator Baba Kaka Garbai (APC – Borno Central), the Senate discussed the issue of malnutrition in the North East and resolved that the Ministry of Finance should immediately release necessary funds to the North East while the Federal Government should begin coordination of private sector donations to the region.

During the debate on the motion, Saraki emphasised the need for a sustainable public-private-partnership driven approach to combat the issue of malnutrition, stressing that Nigeria did not need to lose more lives to the lack of food in the North East.

“I immediately notified the GOC 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Victor Izugwu, who promised to take action,” he said.

“I was also directed by Gov. Kashim Shettima to get the full details of the incident.

“I visited the office in the morning and discovered that one of the eight aid workers was injured at the upper jaw, they were in the process of evacuating him to Abuja for proper treatment when I met them,” Durkwa said.

The deputy governor condemned media reports on suspension of aid work by the UN office in the state over the incident.

“The issue of suspension of aid work by the UN in the state is not true.

“I met the UN officials and they told me that the attack would not deter them from doing their humanitarian work,” Dukwa said.

He said that the officials never contemplated leaving the state as reported in the media.

“In fact, they asked me to extend their commendation to the gallant soldiers and members of the Civilian JTF who helped in repelling the attack. “Throughout our discussions, there was no mention of suspension of humanitarian work in the state,” Durkwa said.
