Nigeria minister of information Lai Mohammed has revised his statement that FG will ban the production of movie and music videos abroad.

The Minister said, "I didn't say that, henceforth, all music and films would or must be produced in Nigeria. All i said was that is a programme is designated as a Nigerian content programme, we will amen the code to ensure that it is produced in Nigeria. I didn't say i will ban the production of Nigerian movies and videos overseas"

Recall that a report had credited the minister proposing to ban the production of movies and music videos abroad which was greeted with wide condemnations from Nigerians especially the entertainment industry with stars like psquare and Ruggedman vocal about it

Woman arrested for wearing miniskirt in Saudi Arabia has been released without charge


A woman detained in Saudi Arabia for wearing a miniskirt in a viral video has been released without
charge.
The Saudi model, reportedly called ‘Khuldoon’, was arrested for wearing ‘immodest clothes’ after filming herself walking around the historic fort in Ushaiqer, in the region of Najd, in a miniskirt and crop top
Najd is one of the most conservative parts of Saudi Arabia. It was the birthplace of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab – the founder of the strict Wahhabi sect of Islam that dictates the laws in the country.

However, the authorities have now said that she has been freed without any charges being brought against her.
A statement released by the Center for International Communication said that police released the woman on Tuesday evening after a few hours of questioning. The statement said the video was published without her knowledge.

Women in the kingdom are required to wear ‘abayas’ – loose-fitting, full-length robes – and headscarves.
So when the video was posted online, it quickly went viral, and sparked fierce debate in Saudi.
Some immediately called for Khuldoon’s arrest, with journalist Khaled Zian tweeting: ‘The return of the Haia [religious police] here is a must.’
And another wrote: ‘We should respect the laws of the country. In France, the niqab is banned and women are fined if they wear it. In Saudi Arabia, wearing abayas and modest clothing is part of the kingdom’s laws.’

However, others called out people’s hypocrisy, saying that people would be admiring Khulood’s beauty if she were western, and calling her ‘brave’

Sharing the video, Fatima al-Issa tweeted: ‘If she were a foreigner, they would sing about the beauty of her waist and the enchantment of her eyes… But because she is Saudi they are calling for her arrest.’
Women’s rights in the kingdom are making steady, if relatively slow progress.
Recent reforms brought in by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Vision 2030, aims to increase women’s participation in the workplace by the year 2030, and to ensure they have greater freedoms.

8-year-old boy who was first child to have successful double hand transplant can now write

A boy who underwent a double hand transplant has learned how to write and play sports just 18 months after the surgery.
Zion Harvey is now able to write, feed and dress himself following the major operation, which took nearly 11 hours.



The American boy, who was aged eight when the procedure took place, needed the transplant after contracting life-threatening infection sepsis, when he was just two.
Before he underwent the double hand transplant, Zion had limited ability to dress, feed and wash himself using his residual limbs or specialist equipment.
When asked what he hoped to do following surgery, he told doctors he wanted to be able to climb monkey bars and grip a baseball bat.
His mother hoped her son would be able to dress, brush his teeth and cut food independently.

The surgery took place in July 2015 at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in collaboration with Penn Medicine when a suitable donor became available.
The procedure, which lasted 10 hours and 40 minutes, involved four medical teams working on the donor and recipient limbs.

Within days of the surgery, Zion was able to move his fingers using the ligaments from his residual limbs.
Six days after the transplant he began daily occupational therapy, including video games and exercises using finger lights and puppets, as well as daily tasks such as writing and using a knife and fork.
By six months he could move the transplanted hand muscles and feel touch. Around this time he also became able to feed himself and grasp a pen to write. Two months later he could use scissors.

Within a year of the surgery, Zion could swing a baseball bat using both hands.
While scans revealed the boy’s brain had developed pathways for control of hand movement and for carrying touch sensation signals from the hand back to the brain.
Zion’s months of occupational therapy and psychological support have been documented in a medical report published in The Lancet Child and Adolescent Health journal.
The report also documents a series of setbacks, including treatment of numerous rejections of the hands and extensive rehabilitation.

Dr Sandra Amaral, of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, said: ‘Our study shows that hand transplant surgery is possible when carefully managed and supported by a team of surgeons, transplant specialists, occupational therapists, rehabilitation teams, social workers and psychologists.
‘Eighteen months after the surgery, the child is more independent and able to complete day-to-day activities.

‘He continues to improve as he undergoes daily therapy to increase his hand function and psychosocial support to help deal with the ongoing demands of his surgery.’
Zion was already receiving immunosuppression medication for a kidney transplant which was needed after he contracted the life-threatening infection sepsis when he was two.
The infection also meant the youngster had to have his hands and feet amputated.

Woman 'beaten by in-laws with a hockey stick for giving birth to a girl'

Three people have been charged including her husband and his brother after the incident in India
A woman has been filmed apparently being beaten by her in-laws for giving birth to a girl.
Local reports in Katalwi, Punjab, suggest that Meena Kashyap, 35, was also attacked as part of a dowry dispute.

Footage shows her cowering and screaming in pain as she is hit with hockey sticks by two men believed to be her brother-in-law and a friend of his.
Her husband’s family had recently found out that she had previously made complaints about them in April saying they had treated her with violence.
Ms Kashyap is said to be in dispute over a dowry of £8,300 given to her by her in-laws but then when she gave birth to a girl her husband’s family were angered.
She has been beaten a number of times, according to the Hindustan Times.
Police are bringing charges against her husband Daljit Singh, his brother Kamaljeet, and a friend identified only as Gaurav.

The charges include trespass and ‘voluntarily causing hurt’.
Her father said: ‘We had complained about the issue last year itself but nothing was being done regarding that.
‘They have been married for the past two years now and have a girl child. Their family asked for 700,000 rupees for dowry.

A Saudi woman who posted a video of herself wearing a miniskirt and crop top in public is being investigated by the country’s religious police.
The young woman, a model reportedly called Khulood, potsed the short clip on Snapchat showing herself walking around a historic fort in Ushayqir.

Ushayqir Heritage Village, which is around 96 miles away from Riyadh, is in Najd – one of the country’s most conservative provinces.
Since the video was shared online, many Saudis have called for Khulood to be arrested for breaking the country’s strict dress code.
Women in Saudi Arabia are required to wear ‘abayas’ – loose-fitting, full-length robes – and headscarves.


According to the BBC, journalist Khaled Zian tweeted: ‘The return of the Haia [religious police] here is a must.’
And another user argued: ‘We should respect the laws of the country.

But many other Saudis came to the woman’s defence, calling her ‘brave’ and pointing out the hypocrisy of calling for her arrest, while praising western women who dress in the same way.
Wael al-Gassim, the writer and philosopher, told the BBC he was ‘shocked to see those angry, scary tweets’.
‘I thought she had bombed or killed somebody. The story turned out to be about her skirt, which they did not like,’ he said.

Some also noted that Melania Trump chose not to wear an abaya during her husband’s visit to Saudi in May, and yet was praised for her choice of dress.
Fatima al-Issa tweeted in Arabic: ‘If she were a foreigner, they would sing about the beauty of her waist and the enchantment of her eyes… But because she is Saudi they are calling for her arrest.’
Saudi’s religious police, the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, tweeted that it was aware of the video and was in contact with the relevant authorities.

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has written a letter to the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, demanding the release of the report of the panel that investigated corruption allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr David Babachir Lawal.
Fayose, who is the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum, also demanded the release of the report on the Director General, National Intelligence Agency, Mr Ayo Oke. He threatened to sue Osibanjo if he failed to meet his demands and “act expeditiously on the reports.”

Fayose’s demands are contained in a July 11 letter, which was reportedly received at the Acting President’s office on July 13.

A statement by the Special Assistant to the governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, quoted Fayose as urging the Acting President “never to harbour the view that the matter can be swept under the carpet.”
The governor was further quoted as saying, “The government’s war against corruption lacked credibility and has thus floundered because of the government’s perceived penchant for sweeping allegations of corruption against top functionaries of the Federal Government and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
“I dare to say that this is one of the reasons the so-called war against corruption has not attracted public support. It lacks credibility and has thus floundered. It is also the reason your administration has lost case after case in the court of law, even though administration’s officials have tried to cover government’s Achilles’ heel as well as their own howling incompetence under the pretence of corruption fighting back.”
Fayose said it would be unfortunate if the report was abandoned.
“The preferential treatment given to the two top-notch members of your government is bad enough. So reckless and audacious has your government become in this regard that a serving senator who is a member of your party said on the floor of the Senate that your government uses insecticide when dealing with alleged cases of corruption involving members of the opposition but applies deodorant when members of the ruling party are involved.

“As the Acting President, the buck now stops on your desk. Your Excellency, Nigerians demand two actions from you: First is that you release the report of the corruption investigation, which you presided over. Second is that you act expeditiously on the report. May I advise, Your Excellency, that you should never harbour the view that this matter can be swept under the carpet for two reasons:
“One is that Nigerians are not unmindful of the outcome of your investigation even if it has not been officially released. Two is that should you fail to release the report and act on it, I shall approach the law court to compel you to do so.”

Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Victor Isuku confirm and said the scene was visited and the area rendered safe by the police EOD team, adding that normalcy has since been restored to the area.
“Yesterday 15/7/2017, at about 1000hrs, two boys, Gambo Bukar and Umar Bukar, aged 10 and 8yrs respectively, Fulani by tribe, of Dalti village in Jere LGA, outskirt of Maiduguri, went out for grazing at Baram and Tamsongamdu villages in Mafa LGA.
“They came in contact with Boko Haram terrorists elements. Gambo Bukar was strapped with IED vest and set free. They returned home at about 1600hrs of same day, and failed to disclose their encounter with the terrorists.
“In the process of unstrapping the vest, the IED exploded killing Gambo Bukar alone, while Umar Bukar sustained injuries and was hospitalized.
“Scene was visited and the area rendered safe by police EOD team. Normalcy has since been restored to the area,” Dsp Victor Isuku said.

Actress Christabel Ekeh says displaying nude pictures of herself on social media was a way of introducing to the world the “new” Christabel.

The actress a few days ago boldly splashed on her Instagram page nude photos of herself in a yoga sitting position and in an almost backflip position.

These pictures which since its posting have attracted a lot of criticism and talk have been taken off the page by the app as well (Instagram).

In an interview with Joy News’ MzGee, the actress admitted, “I noticed the page was taken down but it’s my way of welcoming everyone to the new Christabel”.
When asked who this ‘new Christabel’ was, the actress who has starred in popular movies like ‘potomanto’, and ‘sweet mistake’ answered, “it is whoever you can imagine."

"That’s why I’m not wearing anything. So whatever you want to wear on me, that’s your imagination”.
Contrary to speculations that the actresses’ account may have been hacked into and the pictures posted by someone else, the actress took responsibility for the act.
She explained that she also “unfollowed” everyone on her Instagram because she wanted to ‘follow’ God and not people.

Moments after American Gospel singer-songwriter, pastor evangelist, Don Moen was reported dead by a news website, he has tweeted a picture of his father, himself, son and grandson- the four generations of his family.
“Celebrating 4 generations in Minnesota today! Here’s a photo of my Dad, son John holding Bennett and me holding Luke. Love my family!!!,” the singer, songwriter, and producer of Christian worship music said in the tweet @donmoen.
