Eniitankorede: You are wrong. When he was governor nobody in his family was in any position. He brought igbo man and hausa to his cabinet. Shidren of hate stop telling lies. Tinubu developed Lagos. GDP of lagos is more than 5 times Equitorial Guinea despite their oil. Lagos is fastest growing economy in Africa. That cannot be a result of nepotism. Its a result of hard work and getting the right people do the job. That’s what Tinubu is known for. The achievements of Tinubu while he was governor of Lagos are not in doubt. The burning question today is whether or not he currently has the capacity to radically and effectively lead Nigeria out of the morass of insecurity, corruption, nepotism and under-development which the country finds itself? |

Shouldn't the man have gotten fed up and resigned by now? Fed up kẹ̀? Such leaders don't ever get fed up. They would rather die on that seat. |

Really...wow! There's quite a lot going on. Thanks. NaijaphiliaBlog: We are yet to confirm that, but it is very likely, because of the sheer scale of the project and its requisite transnational mediation/logistics.
We do know that the African Development Bank (AfDB) is involved in the following:
1. This year at the Africa Investment Forum from 15 to 17 March 2022, a total of $15.6 billion was secured by the Bank to develop a 1,081 km long 6-lane highway corridor from Lagos to Abidjan.
That corridor is where 75% of all trade in the ECOWAS region happens. It will transport everything and will be borderless in that people can travel freely across that corridor.
The Lagos - Abidjan highway will significantly impact the economies of 5 West African countries: Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria. The new highway will start at Bingerville, in the eastern suburbs of Abidjan, and terminate at Mile 2 (Eric Moore) in Lagos. It will have a total of 8 border posts.
2. The Abidjan-Lagos highway is also one of 16 projects included in the Priority Action Plan of the African Union's Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), which is being implemented by the AfDB.
3. Further, the Abidjan-Lagos highway will complete the Enugu-Bamenda corridor linking southeast Nigeria in West Africa to southwest Cameroon in Central Africa. The 443-km highway, costing about $430 million, is being financed by the AfDB.
4. The Abidjan-Lagos highway will boost transport (roads, railroads, ports and airports) in West Africa and help accelerate implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA), a market of 1.3 billion consumers and with combined GDP of about $3 trillion.
5. The Bank also invested significantly in the Kazungula bridge linking Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia. After AfDB's investment, the wait time for trucks crossing the borders went from 14 days to only one hour.
6. The bank also invested $1 billion in constructing a highway between Addis Ababa and Nairobi, and which will eventually extend to Mombasa. That alone will allow an increase in trade of around 400% between Kenya and Ethiopia.

So, yes, you are right - the "African Unity Road" sounds like something up AfDB / Adesina's alley! |

You are welcome to nairaland. Keep your wits about you, look sharp, and don't be distracted by the tribal scurrilities of the few less-civilized denizens around here. You'll do just fine. DaleMcWayne: Hello everybody!
I've just joined Nairaland, after reading silently as a guest for a while.
This particular thread deals with a very important issue: developing trans-african infrastructure.
The future prosperity of African countries will surely depend to a large extent on deeper intra-continental trade.
Looking forward to seeing more of such infrastructure. |

pansophist: I watched a documentary about the road today, brilliant. But the problem is lack of free visa facilities and trade agreements to ease free movement and trade. Please share the link to the documentary. I've not been able to get much information about the project. |

Is the AfDB involved with this project? Sounds like something right up Akinwumi Adesina's alley. NaijaphiliaBlog: The “African Unity Road” is a highway that will link 6 African nations, improving transport and delivering high-speed internet across the continent.
At Guezzam, on the border between Algeria and Niger, the last section is now nearing completion.
Conceived over 50 years ago, the Trans-Saharan Highway runs almost 5,000 kilometres from Algiers to Lagos in Nigeria. Its goal is to strengthen regional integration and promote trade between the north and south of the Sahara.
The road is also lined with thousands of kilometres of cable as part of another multinational project: the Trans-Saharan Fibre Optic Backbone.

prof2007: You are absolutely correct.
Nevertheless, health professionals are very important because they have helped to save countless lives.
Some years back, a bus with which I travelled had an accident. Those of us that survived did so because of the timely intervention of good samaritans and hardworking doctors and nurses.
Our government needs to find out why so many doctors are leaving, and then do something positive about it. Yes...government will eventually do something about it. Basically, we are now training medical doctors for the UK! |
