PDP under Yar'Adua and GEJ were negotiating with terrorists. The truth is that the Nigerian state is corrupt and weak; if they can pay to let the problem go away, they will pay.

Tinubu is compromised with the arrangement that he has made with the Fulani hierarchy; he has failed to understand that the game is up

You are a bigot and tribalist; less than 2 million Yoruba supported Tinubu. Tinubu lost Lagos, with the majority of Yoruba support going to the Igbo candidate, Peter Obi.

Yet, the Igbo who live among the Yoruba people are a minority among them. If the Yoruba people decide to vote for Tinubu in 2027, what is the Alternative, another Fulani jihadist like Atiku?

Peter Obi has no chance in 2027.

Why should the project be sited in the South South?

These are private projects that can be located anywhere. The SS already has three refineries that don't work, all the LNG plant in Bonny, and the Indorama petrochemical plant.

I thnk SS entrepreneur should buy Warri and P H refineries
dappydozzy:
Refineries ought to be sited in SS ? Who stipulated that? Industries are sited as a result of nearness to raw materials, efficient logistics and distribution. Remember this refinery is within Olokola free trade zone, same as Dangote refinery. They were designed to be export powerhouses not cesspool of corruption. Ondo state also large reserves of crude and Bitumen, as well as the proposed deep sea port. All these factors positions the state to host a refinery of this magnitude.
If Industries are suppose to be localed close to raw materials than all the Cobolt , copper and Lithium factories should be located i. DR Congo and not in Nigeria.

This is the list of the top oil refining countries. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/15-countries-largest-refining-capacity-005918383.html

The countries below have no oil or gas, yet they are a major refinery countries. To improve transportation, the location of industries close to raw materials has been replaced with the location of industries (refineries) close to a stable market, infrastructure (Roads, Rail, Ports), skilled labour, and political stability.

The refineries in the South West can source their crude oil from any nation in the world.

India, South Korea, Japan, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Singapore all import crude oil from oil-rich countries, refine it into refined oil, petrochemicals, and chemicals. Graphite etc

15. Singapore
Refining Capacity: 1.46 mb/d

Singapore is one of the world’s leading refining centers and has the world’s fifteenth largest refining capacity, as of 2021. It has the capacity to process 1.46 million barrels per day of crude oil, making it a major hub for the refining of oil.

Singapore is also home to a number of major petrochemical plants, which produce a range of products including ethylene, propylene, and aromatics. These products are then used to create a range of products including lubricants, resins, and chemicals.

13. Spain
Refining Capacity: 1.58 mb/d

Spain has one of the largest oil refining capacities in the world. In 2021, the country had a total refining capacity of 1.58 million barrels per day. The country has eight major oil refineries and had a refinery throughput of 1.14 million barrels per day in 2021.

12. Italy
Refining Capacity: 1.90 mb/d

Italy has one of the largest oil refining capacities in Europe. In 2021, the country had a total refining capacity of 1.90 million barrels per day. Italy also has significant capacity to produce a variety of fuels and petrochemical products, including gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, lubricants, and petrochemicals.

10. Germany
Refining Capacity: 2.12 mb/d

Germany is one of the largest refiners in the world. In 2021, the company had a total refining capacity of 2.12 million barrels of oil per day. In addition to its refining capacity, Germany also operates several petrochemical complexes, which produce a range of products including plastics, fertilizers, and fuels. Overall, Germany is an important player in the global refining industry, and its refining capacity is among the largest in the world.

6. Japan
Refining Capacity: 3.28 mb/d

Japan is the sixth-largest refiner in the world, as of 2021, with a total refining capacity of 3.28 million barrels per day. The country's refining sector is highly developed and contributes significantly to the economy. In recent years, Japan has been modernizing its refining sector in order to meet the changing needs of the global market. Japan is well-positioned to meet the demands of the global market and maintain its position as a major player in the refining sector.

5. South Korea
Refining Capacity: 3.57 mb/d

South Korea is one of the countries with the largest refining capacity. The country is home to some of the world‘s largest refineries, with a combined refining capacity of nearly 3.6 million barrels of oil per day, as of 2021. In addition to its refining capacity, South Korea is also a major producer of petrochemicals. If Nigeria beats DR Congo, they will be the highest-ranked team in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Play-Off and will only have to play against one of the four lowest-ranked teams in the 2026 Play-Off.

If Nigeria qualifies, the country will be well prepared for the FIFA final.

The FIFA World Cup 26™ Play-Off Tournament will see six sides fight it out for the final two places at the FIFA World Cup 26™ in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

It will involve two teams from Concacaf and one team apiece from the AFC, CAF, CONMEBOL and OFC, and will take place in March 2026 during the the international fixture window which runs from 23 - 31 March.

From the six teams who qualify, the four lowest-ranked nations in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will meet in bracket semi-finals. The two highest-ranked teams will go directly into the finals. The winners of the two bracket finals will reach the FIFA World Cup 26.

This is really sad

The main reason Mali's Military Government is unable to keep the country safe is because of war on multiple fronts.

They are fighting Taureg separatists that want to secede from Mali to form their own country called Azawad.

They are fighting Muslim Jihadists fighting for Islamic doctrines.

Nigeria must learn from all of these; make peace wherever that's necessary and don't open war on too many fronts at the same time if not the military will be overwhelmed, that was part of why Hitler's Germany was defeated in 1945; they were fighting on too many fronts, which made them lose to USSR towards the Eastern front as Britain, US and other allies dealt with them on the Western fronts
Mali has also lost Western military support and have now learnt that Russia is preoccupied with its own local war. CIV, Ghana and Senegal should come to Mali's aid.

What do you know about the steel industry? Let me guess-nothing.

There's a massive glut of steel in the global market. Chinese over production has led to a glut. The Chinese excess capacity is larger than the entire steel outpiut of the United States. One can buy steel dirt cheap.

Nigerian made steel would be too expensive for end users here. This will make their products less competitive.

Any new money sank into Ajaokuta would simply go down a black hole. That was why Okonji Iweala refused to expend a dime on the factory during Jonathan's government.

To establish a steel plant isn't the problem. Dangote has already said he wants to do so. The FG refused to back him. Why? For him to succeed, they would need to ban import of steel products. His steel would simply not be able to compete internationally which would be a huge burden on local builders and manufacturers.

That's why the government refused to support him.
Typical Nigerian asking a question without waiting for an answer, I have over 25 years in the manufacturing sector. Where did I say Nigeria should retain the antiquated Ajaokuta steel plant? I stated that Nigeria must have a steel industry for strategic reasons.

In the UK, the government has kept its unproductive steel industry going for security reasons.

A serious country with imagination would ensure that it has a successful stake in foundation industries, metals (Steel, Aluminium, Copper, Lithium, and Gold), LNG plants, Refineries, Agro-Processing, and abundant electricity.

Please read the article below, learn from it, understand, and come back to this forum to thank me for the free education.

South Africa Must Shield Its Steel Sector from the Tidal Wave of Global Overcapacity

https://www.saisi.org/policy-news/south-africa-must-shield-its-steel-sector-from-the-tidal-wave-of-global-overcapacity/

As of 2024, global steel overcapacity has ballooned to more than 602 million tonnes. This is an astonishing figure, over four times greater than the entire steel consumption of the European Union. This glut is not going away. By 2027, the number is projected to surge to 721 million tonnes.

Once concentrated in China, this excess is now spilling across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and even parts of Africa. What was once a regional concern is now a global threat. For South Africa, the danger is very real and already visible in the data.

A similar trend is expected closer to home as Zimbabwe’s Dinson Iron and Steel Company prepares to become a major regional player. The implications for our domestic producers and the entire manufacturing value chain are serious.

Steel is not just another commodity. It is foundational to infrastructure, energy, mining, transport, and manufacturing. If we lose our primary steelmaking capacity, we lose far more than production. We lose strategic capability, skills, and economic resilience.

The time has come for South Africa to adopt a comprehensive import management approach that is proactive, risk-based, and aligned with our industrial policy objectives.

There was no scam with Ogun FTZ.

It was all politics. The project was initiated by his predecessor, Gbenga Daniels, who was from PDP, a rival party.

That was why he cancelled the project. This was just petty politics. This was neither a project he initiated, and when completed, would be treated as a PDP accomplishment.

P & 1D was definitely a scam from the word go.

As for Ajaokuta, the problem was neither the Indians or any investor. It is the Nigerian government's desire to see this large elepohant project completed, rather than cut and run.

Until they blow up that plant, and open the borders to steel imports, the project would continue ripping off the country.
Only Nigerians think that an import-dependent state is a success story. A country produces locally for national interest. How can a country like this be one of the world's largest steel producers despite being under sanction for 40 years? Africans have no imagination.

I will transform Ajaokuta into an industrial park and seek private investors who are willing to invest and establish a local steel plant in the country.

Pramod Mittal’s firm won a settlement tied to a Soviet-era steel plant that has sucked up more than $7 billion in Nigerian public investment without producing any metal.

Because every President especially Buhari and now The Chief Bigot President Tinubu channels the nation’s resources including borrowed funds to his region and state at the detriment of other regions.

Why not implement regional restructuring into the six regions and let each region build its infrastructure based on its productivity? If the North are not happy, they should support restructuring now.

The statement about "dipping the Koran in the Atlantic Ocean" is attributed to the goals of the Fulani jihad led by Usman dan Fodio, and also to a later Nigerian politician referencing dan Fodio's legacy, but it is not a direct quote from Uthman dan Fodio himself.

The phrase is widely circulated in Nigerian political discourse and some historical accounts as a description of the aspiration of the Sokoto Caliphate's jihad: to spread Islam across West Africa to the Atlantic coast.

However, the quote as a direct statement is often specifically attributed to Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto and a prominent Northern Nigerian political leader in the post-independence era. He is reported to have said in 1960 that the new nation of Nigeria should be regarded as "an estate of our great grandfather, Uthman Dan Fodio" and that their goal was to "dip the Quran in the Atlantic Ocean after the British leave our shores".

Therefore, while the sentiment is associated with the historical legacy of Uthman dan Fodio's jihad, the direct quote is typically attributed to a later figure invoking his name.
