Am presently running a masters by research degree and my supervisory committee has raised a suggestion to convert my study to PhD as the research being undertaken is of PhD standard. While this is obtainable here, I have very little information about the believe back in Nigeria...especially since my undergraduate degree was not a first class. Do anyone have idea of the prospects of a PhD without masters in he academics back home, or will it raise a red-flag?

Despite your claim of under 18's body not being able to withstand pregnancy and birth, statistics have shown that a large percentage of adolescents and teenagers have either carryout abortion, are pregnant or have given birth. Talking of child rights, it is very obvious that originator of child rights, the developed country e.g. USA, have absolutely no right to talk about child rights. Which country in the world have the highest percentage of rape, abortion, teenage pregnancy, single mother etc? Which country in the world have the highest percentage of child pornography...a sorry sight to behold. And they talk of child rights? The truth is that there is nothing wrong with a girl of 14, for example, getting married as far as she is neither forced nor coerced to do so. To be honest, I prefer a girl of 14 being honourably married than being engaged in illegal sexual activity...

The senate is right for approving marriage to girls less than 18, but it should not be any age....It is clearly stated in the Qur'an the a girl become ripe for marriage when she starts menstruating, at the age of puberty (12-13). it is true that the Child Rights Act says clearly that a child is anyone below the age of 18...now what is the origin of that law? Religion? In the so-called developed countries, which age group have the highest number of abortion...teenagers (13-18). How many so-called babies (18yrs below) are virgin? Islam seeks balance and a world free of promiscuity...if a girl of 14 can have sex around and its not a problem, then getting married at that age should not be a problem. Approving marriage of girls 18 below (so-called under-aged) is just an attempt to help matters. If you dont want marriage to a girl less than 18, then you should put a ban on sex with the so-called under-aged ladies. But is that possible? Take a statistic of secondary school adolescent females and you will find out that they are far more advanced sexually than we imagine! How many 15yrs old girls are still virgin? The religion of Islam states clearly how things are done and when they are done...with clearly established rules! It should be noted that for those who are well informed, marriage does not stop a girl's education.
