PoliticsThe Rise And Fall Of Saraki-reply To Barcanista. by sultan457(op): 9:44pm On Sep 19, 2015
Saraki left the PDP for personal reasons......not because he wanted CHANGE. This is evident in his behaviour since APC became victorious. APC trusted Saraki, jilted Belgore just to please Saraki. APC asked both Belgore and Lai Mohammed to relinquish the state leadership to Saraki. While Lai choicelessly agreed, Belgore left APC because 'I can never be in the same party with Saraki talkless of him leading me'.....Raji Fashola spoke and appealed to his bosom friend Belgore not to leave APC but the latter sought Fashola's understanding on the fact that Saraki is not a human being and that APC will regret having Saraki in its fold. APC openly celebrated Saraki. Saraki nominated every single political appointments in Kwara......he took over the structure of the APC in Kwara. APC narrowly won Kwara with just over 100k votes above the PDP. Race for Senate Leadership began. This slot would have naturally gone to the SE had Ngige or other experienced APC senatorial candidate won but APC NASS conflict's foundation was laid by the rejection of the party in the SE! Therefore, 3 major lucky contenders were jostling for the Senate President position......Lawan from NE, Saraki and Akume from NS all wanted to fill the vacuum created by the SE. Buhari and APC preferred Lawan from the NE instead of Tinubu's friend Akume and Atiku's choice Saraki. Tinubu being a smart man quickly asked his friend Akume to step down for the Party's and President's choice Lawan. Akume, another reasonable politician agreed! Tinubu is not just a driver, he also know when to accelerate and when to march the brake!!!!!!! Atiku and Saraki kept on accelerating even when it was obvious that the duo have approached the zebra crossing!!!! A warrior that knows how to fight that does not know how to run when necessary will eventually perish in the battlefield! Saraki and his pushers became arrogant and resolute to disgrace the APC and the President .... All appeals by leaders of their party did not hold water. Saraki said he wanted due process......therefore, the party organized a primary election to please him......Saraki lost the election and instead of staying within his team and agree with the APC Senators decision, he betrayed the APC and teamed up with the PDP to steal the hard earned victory of the APC through the back door. He wanted SP even if heavens will fall. He eventually stole it while 95% of his colleagues were away, he joined the PDP to ridicule CHANGE. He did not stop there, he made the PDP DSP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ha! What wickednesshuh What a deadly traitorhuh?? The party was battling with the humble pie and sought further reconciliation by asking Saraki to give other leadership positions left to its preferred choices, at least to calm nerves and save the party from national disgrace...but Saraki once again injured the party and announced his own preferred choices behaving like 'IGE ADUBI' who cares less whether or not his mother or father died on the day of his birth! The intention of Saraki became very clear to APC......he wants to APC to fail, disgraced and destroyed......he has gone back to his former husband...PDP. But the concern of Buhari is different from the APC's.......Buhari wants to eradicate corruption but how can Kwara Corruption King lead from the senatehuh Number one priority of Buhari administration has been ambushed by thieves from the NASS.....Buhari, a soldier and a war tested veteran will not give up the fight to eradicate corruption in Nigeria. His preference for Lawan has nothing to do with politics but with policies! Saraki obviously has constituted himself to be a clog in the wheels of CHANGE. He has become the arrow head of Business as Usual in a government of CHANGE! Therefore his book of remembrance was opened. His judgement became expedient.....Since he wanted to be one of leaders in the government of Change, he must be thoroughly searched. Buhari the first leader has been searched....... Osinbajo the second leader has been searched.....so why will Saraki the 'third' leader avoid searchhuhhuh You cannot eat your cake and have it!!!!! For those who said why saraki? Keep your mouth shut. Saraki wants to be number three and therefore, his cupboards must be opened, we must know his condition and fitness......if he passed this current test, then CHANGE will admit him but if he fails......CHAN GE will purge him........ This is not a joke! CHANGE has come to Nigeria and he who must come to equity must come with clean hands! And that is what we mean by Common Sense Revolution!

PoliticsTribunal Decides Gbajabiamila’s Fate Next Month by sultan457(op): 5:36am On Aug 28, 2015
Lagos—The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Ikeja, will on September 29, 2015 give judgment in a petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate in Surulere Federal Constituency I of Lagos State, Mr. Tony Ashikodi, challenging the declaration of the House of Representatives Majority leader Olufemi Gbajabiamila of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the March 28, 2015 poll. The three-man panel, lead by Justice C.U Anwuka fixed the date after listening to the submission and adopting the final written address by parties counsels. Ashokodi, through his lawyer Mr. Kalu Onuah, is challenging the victory of Gbajabiamila and alleged irregularities during the election, which he said, breached the provisions of Independent National Electoral Commission’s, INEC, approved guidelines for the polls. At the resumed hearing of the matter yesterday, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that Gbajabiamila was not duly elected or returned by the majority of lawful votes cast at the election. He urged the court to void the election by reason of manifest breach and violation of the Electoral Act 2015 Election Guidelines, adding that a fresh election should be ordered and to be conducted by the INEC for the constituency. The petitioner had alleged irregularities in the conduct of the election, stating that “the final figures in the tally of results the Form EC 8C(i) were cancelled and altered with a view of declaring Gbajabiamila the winner of the election. He also said the 14,351 received by the APC candidate was whimsically changed to 21,715 while 16,079 earlier recorded for petitioner was changed to 14,550.”

PoliticsOrubebe, An Elevated Thug – Oshiomhole by sultan457(op): 11:20pm On Aug 27, 2015
BENIN CITY—GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, has described Mr Godsday Orubebe, former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, as an elevated thug and a political jobber, who is out to make noise as a means of getting his next meal ticket. In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Peter Okhiria, the governor in reaction to Orubebe’s fresh attack on him, said: “Reading Godsday Orubebe’s infantile outburst saying that the governor of Edo State is a “garage boy,” easily exposes the boondocks orientation and lowly mind of someone, who almost plunged the country into political anarchy in the last general election.

Oshiomhole vs Orubebe
It easily underscores one of the reasons why the Goodluck Jonathan administration failed abysmally to understand the nexus between promise and performance, between problems and solutions, and above all between prosperity and poverty. “Orubebe is no more than a common tout and political thug, too illiterate to know the difference between a “garage” and a “motor park,” recruited by his paymasters as Deputy Director-General of the 2015 Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation, and agent provocateur to truncate the last elections.
But for the maturity and sound leadership orientation of Professor Atahiru Jega, Nigeria would still have been reeking in utter anarchy and political protestations. “With such indecorous conduct coming from a man who ostensibly is an “Elder’ of a Church, calls to question the whole essence of his character, personality, upbringing and spirituality. That singular conduct of his at the election is a living symphony of his egregious blunder, absurdities, incongruities and oddities, all of which are attributes of touts always desirous to make their voices heard.
“It is due to his amnesia that he forgot to understand that as a Nigerian and Governor of a State, Oshiomhole has statutory right to go in and out of the Presidential Villa to discuss issues that affect Edo State. Former President Jonathan was President of Nigeria and not President of his party, the PDP. He was under obligation to attend to all parties and persons irrespective of their political affiliation.
“The real problem of former President Jonathan was having people like Orubebe, who pigeon-holed him as president of the Ijaw nation and prevented him from appreciating the enormity of the challenges facing the Nigerian nation. To further compound the challenges was the dénouement of his unruly and thuggish imputation during the elections, such tendentious character index that is now synonymous with this Niger-Deltan.” that notorious script; such a shameless role by a shameless father who was supposed to be a role model for good parenting.”

PoliticsThe NPF Is Now Used To Promote The Name Of Mountain Of Fire And Miracles Church by sultan457(op): 10:18pm On Aug 27, 2015
The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Church seem to have employed a clever ploy that will potentially turn members of the Nigerian Police into mobile billboard for the church (see pictures*), and help it to promote its name and logo- at the tax-payers expense. The church donated hi viz string vest to the police with the declared intention to save lives- by making them to be seen in the dark. This should ordinarily be applauded as an important initiative and a good example of why religious bodies help the nation. However, the devil is in the detail. No one needs to look too closely before seeing clearly inscribed the name and logo of the church printed on the string vest. How come those who like to scream, in coarse voices, that religion should be kept out of politics/government, of imposition of shariah and islamisation have all disappeared into thin air? How come that those who have advocated that we turn religion into a hobby (that religion belongs only in peoples minds, homes and mosque/church) have not risen up in horror of this most brazen attempt by MFM to colonize the state police. Imagine the furor this would have generated if a NASFAT has done exactly the same thing. I will like to know exactly what those town clowns who spent countless hours trying to malign Muslims and claiming to educate the nation on the secret Muslim plan to Islamise the country through the presence of Arabic inscription on the notes, and the introduction of Shariah compliant (among other outrageous claims) really think of this "trojan horse". I will really love to watch the drama. Aside the need to keep the police force and its men professional and neutral, it is most important that the police authority unequivocally rejects any attempt to portray it as inextricably connected with or aligned to the church. We should not only desire to see a police force that is free of such a romantic branding, the police authority is obligated to ensure it is not so. PoliticsBuhari To Probe 2nd Niger Bridge Contract by sultan457(op): 7:13pm On Aug 26, 2015
The Director General, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Aminu Diko, on Wednesday, disclosed that the Federal Government is scrutinizing the contract cost and conditions surrounding the Second Niger Bridge project. Diko, who spoke to State House correspondents after making presentations to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, stated that the Ministry of Works has been asked to review the contract cost of the project. He also said the Commission has also identified some errors in the project. He said: “The second Niger Bridge is one of the projects that we discussed with the President. We did say yes it is in the commission for regulatory oversight. We have been discussing the transaction with the ministry of works. But before it can be finalized, the commission has to give a certificate of compliance, but we haven’t given that because we have seen a lot of issues that we are uncomfortable with. “We are talking with the ministry of works for them to correct it. The communities around that area are clamouring that their lands have been taken and that they have not been compensated adequately. “As a matter of fact we got a letter from Onitsha traditional council complaining that they have not been adequately represented in this transaction. These kind of issues, we are not saying that something has not been done properly but we need to be convinced that these few problems are sorted out properly. “We will also talk about the actual cost of the bridge, eventually we have asked the ministry of works to review it and justify how much the project should cost.” However, since the emergence of President Buhari, there have been growing fears, especially from prominent Igbo leaders and built environment experts that the Federal Government has dumped the construction of the project. The bridge which was flagged off on March 10, 2014 by former President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to be completed in 48 months (March 2018). Measuring about 1,590 metres long the bridge whose construction cost was put at N117, 860, 700, 741.82, VAT inclusive, forms part of the 11.90 kilometer length project. Although, officials of both the Federal Ministry of Works and Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, have severally denied reports that work on the project has been discontinued, Vanguard had earlier gathered that only skeletal works are ongoing as most of the workers have allegedly been retrenched by the contractors.

Politics‘why Construction Of Second Niger Bridge May Be Put On Hold For Now’ by sultan457(op): 7:04pm On Aug 26, 2015
ABUJA–The on going construction of a second Niger bridge may be placed on hold until the integrity of the bridge is sorted out, the Federal government said Wednesday.

Reasons ranging from the actual cost of the bridge, non issuance of the Certificate of Compliance, non compensation of the host community and non adherence to due process in the award of contract were also responsible for the stoppage.

The disclosure was made by the Director-General, DG of Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, ICRC, Aminu Diko after a private meeting with president Mohammadu buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja.

The DG while briefing State House Correspondent stated that the bridge was one of the issue discussed in the meeting

Noting the importance of the road that linked the south east and south west, Diko however asked the people to be patient with the government.

He said: “The second Niger bridge is one of the projects that we discussed with the President. We did say yes it is in the commission for regulatory oversight. We have been discussing the transaction with the Ministry of Works. But before it can be finalized.

The commissioner has to give a certificate of compliance, but we haven’t even done that because we have seen a lot of issues that we are uncomfortable with. We are talking with the Ministry of Works for them to correct it.

transaction.

“We will also talk about the actual cost of the bridge, eventually we have asked the ministry of works to review it and justify how much the project should cost.

“For the second Niger bridge there will be a lot of studies that needs to be done on the integrity of the bridge itself which will take time it is not something we can see being completed in the next six months.
“I will like us to be patient about it. We know that it is a critical road. We also know how Nigerians suffer during festive holidays and we hear people sleep on that old bridge. The time has come for us to bring succour Nigerians”.

PoliticsAlleged N1trn Diversion: Probing EFCC Boss Is Illegal, Says Senate Unity Forum by sultan457(op): 6:58pm On Aug 26, 2015
The invitation of the Chairman, Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, by the
Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public
Petitions, was on Wednesday, criticized by the Senate
Unity Forum led by Senator Ahmed Lawan.
The Forum said the invitation was illegal and a breach
of the Senate Standing Rules.
It said there is no record indicating that the petition by
Mr. George Uboh, was presented to the Senate in plenary.
It asked the Senate leadership to halt the ongoing probe
of the EFCC by the committee.
The Forum made its position known in a statement
signed by Senator Ahmed Lawan, Senator George Akume,
Senator Abu Ibrahim and Senator Barnabas Gemade.
The statement said: “The Senate Unity Forum hereby
declares that the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges
and Public Petitions probe of the Chairman of the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr.
Ibrahim Lamorde is illegal and a breach of the Senate
Standing Rules.
“In standard parliamentary practice, a petition is routed
through either a Senator or a member of the House of
Representatives. Upon receipt of such petition, the
representative will inform the presiding officer of the
chamber and, thereafter, present the petition in plenary.
“Upon presentation in plenary, the presiding officer will
invite the Senator/Representative to lay the same petition
on the table in the chamber, which automatically
becomes a public document.
“Thereafter, the presiding officer will refer the petition to
the appropriate committee for consideration upon which
it would be returned to the Senate in plenary.
“In this regard, nothing of the sort happened. Senate
proceeded on recess on August 13 and it is not on record
that the petition of Mr. George Uboh, accusing Lamorde
of diverting over N1 trillion recovered from some corrupt
Nigerians, including the former Bayelsa State Governor,
Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, and the former Inspector
General of Police, Tafa Balogun was presented to Senate
in plenary.”
The Senate Unity Forum urged the Senate leadership to
halt the probe of the EFCC.

PoliticsWe’ll Defeat Fayose Without Federal Might- Ex- Speaker by sultan457(op): 6:27am On Aug 22, 2015
A former Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Femi
Bamisile, has said that the All Progressives Congress
won’t rely on federal might to defeat Governor Ayodele
Fayose in 2018 governorship poll.
Bamisile, who has declared his intention for the
governorship seat, said the party would embark on
serious and widespread mobilisation to woo electorate.
He spoke on Friday during a courtesy call by his
campaign team on the APC’s State Working Committee.
Bamisile said, “We are not going to rely on President
Muhammadu Buhari or federal might to win the coming
governorship election. We have the capacity to defeat
Fayose on our own.
“In the June 21, 2014 governorship election, we lost to the
PDP by a margin of over 80,000 votes. But in the
presidential election, it reduced to about 50,000 despite
that Fayose did not allow some of our members to
campaign.
“With this, it was evident that the APC in Ekiti is very
strong. I want to assure our leaders that we will win the
next election convincingly. But we have to work seriously
for it so that we won’t disappoint President Buhari.”
Bamisile stated that he had started monthly distribution
of free petrol to commercial motorcyclists operating in the
state, adding that other critical voting population would
enjoy similar gesture soon.
The State APC Chairman, Chief Jide Awe, represented by
his deputy, Mrs. Kemi Olajide, and a leader of the
party, Chief George Ojo, praised Bamisile for coming out
at a critical time to give the party a strong voice.
Awe urged him to shun violence or any campaign of
calumny in his aspiration.
He assured that the party will give all the aspirants a
level-playing ground and won’t impose anybody on
them.

The youngest governorship aspirant in Bayelsa state,
Moses Siasia has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party,
PDP, regretting that young people have no future in the
party.
The 35 year-old Chairman of multi-billion naira business
empire, Mosilo Group, in a statement, stressed that the
leadership of the PDP in Bayelsa has isolated him
because he chose to champion the cause of the youths.
“I always wanted to see a PDP that will transform into
modern day realities and a party that places high
premium on the YOUTH who are the engine room of any
nation but the more I pushed for youth inclusion in all
affairs of the party, the more I was isolated. There was
always greater emphasis on money politic rather than
ideological prospects. I have carefully watched over the
years and have come to the painful conclusion that the
PDP is not ready to change its old ways of imposition,
godfatherism and gangsterism,” he noted in the
statement.

late President Umaru Musa Yaradua and that of
Goodluck Jonathan. I had thought that by supporting
these two governments, I would have fulfilled my
patriotic duties as a citizen of my country. I have
continuously done my best through my various
contributions towards governance in Nigeria through my
organization “Nigerian Young Professional Forum (NYPF).
I joined the PDP when one of my overzealous cousins went
to my ward to talk about registering me there. I later
found the idea to be a very good one and was excited
about the whole idea of party politics and making a
difference.
I continued to be actively involved in party politics from
2013 till date and the more I got involved in the politics
of the party, the more discouraged I became. I saw that
so many things were not been done properly and I
always wanted to advice and make corrections but the
more vocal I became, the more they isolated me, may be
because they felt I was a threat to the business as usual
way of doing things. I always wanted to see a PDP that
will transform into modern day realities and a party
that places high premium on the YOUTH who are the
engine room of any nation but the more I pushed for
youth inclusion in all affairs of the party, the more I
was isolated. There was always greater emphasis on
money politic rather than ideological prospects.
I have carefully watched over the years and have come to
the painful conclusion that the PDP is not ready to
change its old ways of imposition, godfatherism and
gangsterism.
After the elections, it became very obvious and clear that
Nigerians had rejected the PDP because they were tired of
seeing the same old faces doing the same thing
for16years. Faces that the people were convinced are
corrupt and cant bring the desired change to the people.
The people wanted new faces and something new.
The PDP had a clear chance of redeeming its image in
the eyes of the Nigerian people by injecting fresh ideas
and fresh faces which would have automatically
rebranded the party and restore confidence in the party.
I had presented myself to the party on many occasions
urging them to use me as that face with a perfect case
for Bayelsa State but the party has failed to take
advantage of this great opportunity.
The PDP had every opportunity to rebrand and rediscover
itself after its defeat at the just concluded general election
but I can now see they do not wish to change or evolve.
I, have, therefore, today the 22nd of August decided to
leave the party for ideological reasons. I can no longer
stay on in the party because they do not have respect for
my generation or me. I have nothing personal with the
party and will continue to respect her but I think young
people have no future in the party.

PoliticsCourt Stops Senate From Summoning Nation’s Editor, Reporter by sultan457(op): 6:15am On Aug 22, 2015
Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, yesterday,
restrained the National Assembly from compelling The
Nation’s Editor, Gbenga Omotoso and a correspondent of
the newspaper house, Imam Bello to appear before the
Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public
Petitions over a story published by the medium.
Trial judge, Justice Mohammed Yunusa granted the order
following an ex-parte application moved by the
applicants’ counsel, Mr Wahab Shittu.
Applicants in the suit are Vintage Press Limited (publisher
of The Nation), Omotoso and Bello, the while the
National Assembly and the Senate are the respondents.
The Senate had, in an August 4 letter, invited Omotoso
and Bello to appear before it over the story: Motion: 22
APC Northern senators ‘working against Buhari.’
The Senate wrote another letter on August 11, threatening
to invoke Section 89 (1) (D) of the 1999 Constitution (as
amended) to compel the applicants’ appearance.
Justice Yunusa restrained the respondents, whether by
themselves, their members, committees or agents from
summoning or directing the appearance of the
applicants or any of their agents before any Senate
Committee.
The court barred the lawmakers from requesting the
applicants to produce any papers, notes or other
documents in respect of the story.
The judge also restrained the respondents from issuing a
warrant to compel the applicants’ attendance before the
Senate Committee set up to investigate the publication.
The order, according to the court is to remain in force
pending the hearing and determination of the
applicants’ motion on notice.

PoliticsNigerian Christian Leaders 'hampered Boko Haram Fight'-BBC by sultan457(op): 6:57am On Aug 14, 2015
Christian leaders in Nigeria undermined efforts to combat the threat of Boko Haram by failing to engage in dialogue with Muslims, a senior Anglican church leader has told the BBC.

Archbishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon, who is Nigerian, said Christians had feared the country was being "Islamised".
They had believed Muslims leaders were supporting the militants, he said.

Boko Haram had targeted both Muslims and Christians in its bid to impose Islamic law in northern Nigeria.

The group has killed some 10,000 people since it began its insurgency in 2009 and has also kidnapped hundreds of girls and women.
Last year, the militants seized a huge area of the north-east, before being beaten back by a regional coalition, including Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

The BBC's John McManus says Archbishop Idowu-Fearon, who is the new secretary-general of the Anglican Communion, has a strong reputation for promoting dialogue between Christians and Muslims.

But the archbishop told our correspondent that efforts to maintain unity were undermined by some fellow Christians who failed to engage wit their Muslim counterparts.

"We warned the leadership in my country, the Christian Association of Nigeria: 'Let us listen to the Muslim leadership, because the leadership is not in support of Boko Haram.'

"'Oh no no no,' they said, 'they are always deceiving us. They are all the same,'" he said.

But the archbishop said attitudes had now changed after so many lives had been killed.

"Now they are singing a different tune... I tell you more Muslims have been killed than Christians in the north-east of Nigeria."
line

Perhaps it is no surprise that Archbishop Idowu-Fearon decided to leave Nigeria and take up his new role as secretary-general of the Anglican Communion.

From his own admission, his attempts to promote unity between Christians and Muslims in the face of Boko Haram's attacks were not always welcome.

And his opposition to Nigeria's new anti-homosexuality laws put him at odds with many people of faith, including most of his own Church hierarchy.

The archbishop though, is resolute, telling me he would not be dissuaded, even by a statement from the church of Nigeria which distanced itself from him when his new appointment was announced.

In his new role, he certainly has a lot of influence - and responsibility - to steer the troubled Anglican communion's 85 million Christians through some choppy theological waters.

But in seeking to promote inter-faith dialogue, and reconcile different cultural attitudes to homosexuality, the archbishop has to inspire confidence in Anglicans not only in Africa, but also in North America and Europe - people with very different lives. That is a tough job description for anybody.

In the latest suspected Boko Haram attack, at least 28 people were killed at a crowded market in Borno state on Tuesday.
The blast at Jagol GSM market in Sabon Gari town also injured 79 people, 47 of whom were in a critical condition, according to Nigeria's National Emergency Agency.

President Muhammadu Buhari was elected in March, partly on a pledge to defeat Boko Haram. Since he took power in May, more than 800 people have been killed, mainly in suicide attacks.

PoliticsHow Boko Haram Entered Nigeria-This Day by sultan457(op): 6:58am On Aug 10, 2015
Senator representing Yobe East senatorial district, Bukar
Abba Ibrahim
By Omololu Ogunmade in Abuja
Senator representing Yobe East senatorial district, Bukar
Abba Ibrahim, has disclosed that contrary to beliefs that
Boko Haram started in Nigeria about six or 10 years ago,
the sect had actually been in existence in the North for
over three decades.
According to him, the sect had been in the country since
the 1970s following the killing of its spiritual leader in
Egypt in 1970 by President Gammal Abdel Naseer.
Ibrahim, who is a former Governor of Yobe State, said the
sect came as a religious ideology and not a political
movement. The senator, who serves on the platform of the
All Progressives Congress (APC) made the disclosure to
journalists in Abuja.
Furthermore, he said the sect which began as an
ideological movement against western education and
some other western ideas including democracy, first
arrived in Minna, the capital of Niger State, before
moving to Kano, Yobe and finally settled in Maiduguri,
the capital of Borno State between 2001 and 2002.
Ibrahim added that it was not yet a full blown terrorist
group at the time.
He explained further that Boko Haram militants are not
political thugs constituted by some politicians, saying
rather, Boko Haram dislikes democracy as a western
idea.
He said: “The History of Boko Haram dates back to 10, 15
and even 20 years or more ago. This thing didn’t start six
years ago as largely claimed. It started much, much
earlier than the six years. Boko Haram is a philosophy
driven by a warped religious ideology. It is strictly an
ideology on ground in some parts of the world for quite
sometimes now.
“It all started, we were told, in Egypt during the reign of
Gammal Abdel Naseer who died in 1970. Naseer
beheaded the leader of the Boko Haram Islamic sect in
Egypt in 1970, an action that made his followers to
scatter to other parts of Africa, especially the North and
West Africa including Nigeria.
“When they came to Nigeria, their spread started in
Minna, now the capital of Niger State, up to Kano and
some other areas before moving to Yobe, and Maiduguri
where they permanently settled down and later turned
out to be a full blown militant group because of the
high-handedness of the Nigeria Police against them.
“Police in that part of the country started killing some of
them even at the grave yard while carrying out burial of
some of their dead ones which consequently made them
to become fully militant by first taking arms and
ammunition against the Police and men of other security
agencies and by extension, the Nigerian state.
“Boko, meaning, western education is haram, meaning,
prohibited, forbidden or unacceptable is just an idea
that later turned to be something else. It has nothing to
do with being employed by politicians or being used as
political thugs but the issue of youth unemployment
worsened it further by the unemployed youths serving as
large army of recruitment for the insurgents”.
He recalled the level of destruction that Boko Haram
insurgents had carried out in North-east in recent times,
noting that it will take 20 years to rebuild the people
and places affected.
According to him, no fewer than 6,600 orphans were
camped in only one location in Yobe State besides over
200 primary schools burnt by the insurgents in the state
alone “So many government structures have been
destroyed. More than 200 primary schools have been
destroyed. There are 6,600 orphans in a camp alone.
“I’ve not seen my house in the village for 18 months now
which I learnt have even been bombed down by the
military during their war against the insurgents who
earlier seized the property and drove people away from
the village (Goneri). Two hundred and seventeen of them
are presently staying in my house in Damaturu among
who are 40 primary and 50 secondary school pupils that
are now schooling in Damaturu,” he said.
He expressed hopes that like other similar groups in the
past, Boko Haram will become history moreso that it is
allegedly partnering the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria
(ISIS)

PoliticsFormer NSA Dasuki’s Father Discharged From $4,000 Per Night Hospital Treatment by sultan457(op): 7:00am On Aug 08, 2015
Deposed Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki, the father of Nigeria’s
embattled former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo
Dasuki, was on Thursday evening discharged from a
hospital in the United Kingdom where he had spent two
months at a cost of at least $4,000 per night.
The hospital, the London Clinic, is the same facility
where the Ooni of Ife, Oba Sijuade Okunade, died late
last month. Nigeria’s former leader, Goodluck Jonathan,
was also treated there for stomach ailment a couple of
years ago.
The older Dasuki’s Sokoto home was searched by
Nigeria’s security forces during his stay at the hospital
as they looked for evidence of corruption against his son.
The former Sultan was admitted to the clinic at 20
Devonshire Place, London W1G 6BW, two months ago.
He was first treated in the Critical Care department
before being moved into a self-contained palatial section
of the hotel where he was discharged tonight.
The cost of the former Sultan’s hospital stay was borne
by the former NSA, who is embroiled in a weapons scam
which took place during his tenure at a crucial time
that Nigeria faced the insurgent group, Boko Haram.
Following SaharaReporters’ exposure of the scandal in
weapons procurement involving Nigeria and Israel, the
ex-NSA released a bunch of photos of what he claimed
were sophisticated weapons he purchased to fight Boko
Haram.
Sambo Dasuki’s position however contradicts that of a
former Chief of Defense Staff, Alex Badeh, who claimed
Nigeria had not purchased any significant weaponry
since 2006. In the past several years, the Jonathan made
heavy budgetary provisions not only for the Ministry of
Defence, but for the Office of the NSA, but they have not
been accounted for.
