Can you see the multitude from the North East that have found refuge in Edo state without any molestation. Lets hail Edo people and the Edo government! |
...says anti-human trafficking in the state is not run as a social project The Edo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. (Mrs.) Yinka Omorogbe, has said the state government’s campaign against human trafficking and illegal migration is rooted in legal structures and is not run as social project. Omorogbe who is also the Chairperson, Edo State Task Force Against Human Trafficking, disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, Edo State capital, noting, “The strategy adopted by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration to curb human trafficking and illegal migration is driven by legal structures and is being institutionalised with the incoming legislation to stem the menace. This is not a social project. Obaseki’s vision is to make human trafficking and illegal migration history in the state, as he is desirous that trafficking ends while he is still governor.” The move to use legal structures in the fight against human trafficking is informed by the fact that similar efforts in the past only focused on providing social safety nets, which did not solve the problem for years. According to Prof. Omorogbe, “It is important to have legal backing for the campaign against human trafficking. If there is no legal teeth in the fight against human trafficking and all you are doing is social project, you will not be sending a strong message against traffickers, who benefit from the illicit trade.” She added, “The state government domiciled the taskforce under the office of the Attorney General to give the campaign against human trafficking the needed legal structures it requires. It must be noted that the state government is not against migration, but will continue to encourage those with interest to migrate, to do so legally and with the right papers and qualification.” Source: http://thebellng.com/edo-anti-human-trafficking-is-driven-by-legal-structures-attorney-general/ PHOTO Prof. (Mrs.) Yinka Omorogbe

Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has applauded civil society organisations for their roles in sustaining democracy, holding governments accountable and advancing the course of humanity for the greater good of all. Obaseki said this in commemoration of the World Non- Governmental Organisation (NGO) Day celebrated every February 27, by the Baltic Sea NGO Forum, the United Nations and other international organisations. The governor said that the efforts of civil society organisations to hold governments accountable, insist on good governance and promote other democratic values across the globe have promoted more cohesion among different peoples in the world. He acknowledged “the growing impact of NGOs across the world on climate change and the environment, health, human rights, education, public policy, research, and their efforts in highlighting issues and causes that some governments would rather ignore.” “They have been able to enrich humanity through causes often rooted in individual conviction and have deployed their time, expertise, knowledge and other resources to improve livelihoods and humanity “Collectively, they are an alternative voice to the dominant forces of oppression in many countries. In countries where government has failed, it is the NGOs that leads the way. During Nigeria’s military rule, we had National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), Pro-National Conference Organisation (PRONACO), Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), and others. They stood up to the draconian military administrations and combined forces with international pro-democracy allies to force the military out of politics,” the governor said. He said the work of the NGOs in supporting migrants, victims of wars and others who are caught on the lower rung of life’s ladder, should endear them to all. Noting that the Baltic Sea NGO Forum should be commended for leading the effort to institutionalise the commemoration of the day, Obaseki urged the United Nations to galvanise countries across the world to recognise the role of NGOs in sustaining global harmony. The intention of the commemoration according to Wikipedia, is to inspire “people to become more actively involved within NGO sector and encourage a greater symbiosis between NGOs, and the public and private sectors. The universal concept of the World NGO Day is Celebrate, Commemorate and Collaborate - the various NGOs around the world, and the people behind them that contribute to society all year around.”

frayozzz:You mean that lily-levered man who up till now could not even stand up to name his alleged Ondo senator? Talking of empty drums that make the loudest noise... |
Name the Senator Mr. Orbih, or forever remain silent. |
BEWARE OF EDO PDP my people. |
Don't mind those detractors. It is only someone who is at the same time blind and deaf that can make such dirty accusation. We all see what Edo government has been spending to give a new life to Libyan returnees, including start-ups running into millions. What is then bags of rice ![]() |
Children are our heritage, let's nurture them for the good of the society. |
PhilipIdaghosa:A very welcome development. Kudos to Obaseki's vision and empathy. |
Acting Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Joan Oviawe, has described as condemnable the vandalisation of properties at the Special Needs Schools for the Visually Impaired, Mentally Challenged and Hearing Impaired at Ukhegie, in Benin City. In a statement on Thursday, in Benin City, Dr. Oviawe, who disclosed that the suspected vandals have been apprehended, sternly warned that the state government would no longer tolerate the destruction of facilities in public primary schools, noting that perpetrators will be held accountable and prosecuted in the court of law. “It was gathered that window fittings and other facilities at the school were undone and carted away on Monday, February 12, by the suspects, whose names could not be released because the Police hasn’t concluded investigations on the matter. “A total of six classrooms were affected in the incident with aluminium roofing sheets of one of the classrooms completely damaged. Officials of the school said this was not the first of such incidents at the school,” she said. Dr. Oviawe said the incident is not only morally reprehensible but should be frowned at, adding, “The state cannot progress when facilities in primary schools are vandalised. Such acts put the future of children in public schools in jeopardy. These children deserve the right to learn in a conducive environment with adequate facilities." She appealed to communities and other stakeholders to work with government to root out vandals, noting, “Edo people who reside close to public schools should support government’s stance to stamp out the activities of vandals. They are encouraged to report individuals and groups who vandalise public assets in schools to the nearest police post. She said efforts are ongoing to retrieve the stolen items from buyers, noting that the arrested suspects are in Police custody. “We intend to use the prosecution of this matter to teach others who are in the habit of vandalising public property lessons,” she said.

Lets go with God my people |
frayozzz:Better talk, but no worry, Obaseki will ensure a system for maintenance is in place. |
I mean no pride in him |
Timsally77:Why not? He is the people's governor, hence he feels very free. No pride. |
RIP David. |
I am glad this topic has come to the fore here. There was no such incident in Edo State. It must be the handiwork of the opposition PDP to put fear in people. |
Edo comes first, not party. Thank you Chief Braimah for putting this in true light. Carry go, Governor Obaseki |
Edo is using what God has blessed them bountifully with to get what they need in a country where many states fold their hands to await the ever dwindling monthly federal allocation. And you know what that blessing of God is? 'BRAIN' ...and Governor Godwin Obaseki sure has some brain, active brain. Kudos Mr. Governor! |
Give peace a chance in Edo please. |
Unlike in the past, everything went so well. Shame to all detractors still in this state. |
Great Fela sang one philosophical song that goes like this; 'when trouble sleep, yanga go wake am, na wetin e de fiinnnnd? palava e de find, palava e go get oooooo, palava them go get. Wise up Edo PDP! |
Whoever is planning mayhem in this state will reap and heap mayhem just on his own head. Be wise. |
No.1 Governor; making Edo State the No.1 state. Weldon sir. |
Detractors should leave us alone naaaa! Edo's rise through Obaseki should not be truncated ooooooo.. |
PhilipIdaghosa:And may all his tall dreams for Edo people come to fruition. |
If there is something like a 3rd term, Governor Obaseki deserves it. We are very happy to have Obaseki. |
This is what is called synergy. Good move! |
Obaseki deserves 'The Most Active Governor of The Year' if there is anything like such an award. If market-women and farmers do sing Obaseki's praises, then he must be touching lives. Congratulations Mr. 'Wake and See'! |
Your joining Obaseki to work for the people is a step in the right direction. You are welcome. |
PhilipIdaghosa:Yes, that's what he should earnestly do. Edo people 1st! |
