Winnipeg's Bridgwater neighbourhood in Canada has made history by naming a park after a prominent member of the African community - Emeka Nnadi, a renowned architect and community leader.

The official naming ceremony for Emeka Nnadi Park was held on Saturday, attended by the city's mayor, deputy mayor, and members of the Igbo and Nigerian communities.

Emeka Nnadi, founder of Nnadi Group, has been instrumental in shaping the Bridgwater area, transforming farmland into thriving neighborhoods. This recognition is not just a tribute to his achievements but a celebration of diversity, inclusivity, and community spirit.

Nnadi, who is from Igbo descent from Nigeria, helped develop the Bridgwater area, transforming what in 2006 was roughly 600 hectares (1,400 acres) of provincially owned farmland into multiple neighbourhoods with thousands of homes.

Dozens of people in the Igbo and broader Nigerian communities showed up for the ceremony Saturday, including Nnadi himself.

For Nnadi, the park's naming is a symbol of acknowledgement and a testament to the power of hard work and dedication. He hopes it will inspire future generations to embrace their potential and feel proud to be part of a community that values talent in all its forms.

This milestone marks a significant step forward in recognizing the contributions of the African community in Winnipeg, making it a more inclusive and diverse city for all."

But, President Tinubu on 26th February 2024 directed the implementation of the report.

Tragedy struck the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) community on Monday, February 19th, 2024, when a nine-year-old male lion attacked and killed Mr. Olawuyi Olabode, a seasoned Veterinary Technologist with over ten years of experience at the University's Zoological Garden.

Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, the Vice Chancellor of OAU, expressed his deep condolences and led the university's management team to the scene for an immediate investigation. He has ordered a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident, focusing on both the immediate events and any underlying factors that might have contributed.

Dr. Tirimisiyu Olatunji, acting director of the University Health and Medical Centre, confirmed that despite all efforts to save Mr. Olabode, he succumbed to his injuries.

The university community is deeply saddened by the loss of their esteemed colleague and a dedicated animal caretaker. Management, staff, students, and the entire OAU family are in mourning.

This incident raises crucial questions about safety protocols and procedures at the zoological garden. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the truth behind this tragedy and ensure the safety of both staff and animals moving forward.
