Sports › Rio Olympics: Ministry Denies Asking Athletes To Buy Air Tickets by Sunofgod(op): 4:34pm On Jul 23, 2016 |
The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development says it did not direct foreign-based athletes going to the Olympic Games in Rio to buy their own air tickets. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, made the clarification on Saturday in Lagos in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Nneka Anibeze. The statement said the clarification became necessary following a purported mail asking athletes to buy their tickets to the Olympics and which was said to have originated from the ministry. The statement said that Dalung had made it clear that the Director, High Performance, Angie Taylor, had the responsibility of arranging for the flights and movement of the foreign-based athletes to and from Rio. The statement said, “We did not write any mail asking athletes to pay their way to Rio. “As the overseers of sports in the country, it is our duty to take care of all our athletes. “The letter did not come from us and we will investigate the writer of that letter. “It does not represent our stand concerning the movement of athletes to Rio and the writer or anybody asking athletes to buy their tickets to Rio will be investigated. “We ask Nigerians and athletes in particular to disregard the mail.” It added that the minister regretted the embarrassment caused by the letter and asked athletes to remain focused on their build-up to the Rio Games. http://punchng.com/nscdc-rescues-nine-year-old-boy-chained-tortured-church/? |

sweetgala: Only the poor in UK ! the only mug here is you.
austerity does not affect the poor you dunce but the middle class, the bulk tax contributors and those responsible for the vast amount of commercial transactions. The poor in UK etc have always been dependent on social policies and are so at the mercy of the state.
The only people who went unscathed were the lucky. Shows how much you know. Did they cut your benefits or something? Or did your landlord up the rent on you? The middle class that tend to be property owners were in no way affected. If they were they would have lost there houses which would result in a property market crash or decline. No such thing happened in the UK and as of today the unemployment rate is at one of its lowest levels. Its only the poorest of the poor complaining - mainly because their benefits/free handouts were capped which was very much needed. So many of those rif raf have had to leave london and find cheaper accommodation further north. |

sweetgala: Please unless you lived within Europe at the time and experienced it first hand don't talk.
Every one was affected with varying severity and complexity depending on exposures, I know several SME owners who lost their businesses, several mid- level managers who lost their good paying jobs, Higher level executives in the public sector who had to take paycuts, and emergency service workers(police, fire service, etc)
The recession was no play thing or by the way issue Well your a mug if you ended up in Greece! If you were in the UK, France, Germany, Holland etc then as stated before - only the poorest of the poor suffered due to austerity measures. Now go away... |

sweetgala: I would like this to be funny but alas it is not; Jonathan is among the main reasons we find ourselves at this stop
I have experienced what real recessions means in my relatively young life, with what happened in Europe around the mid- late 2000s, people lost their jobs, mortgages, families destroyed, suicide among young males sky rocketed, there was needless suspicion and 8 years after Europe is just coming out of it.
Recession is not a funny matter ! Dat shiittt was down to bankers.......and was planned anyway. It lasted a short while and to be honest only the poorest of the poor were affected. What's happening in Naija right now is affecting everybody! |
