Yes your photographs will be scrutinized by professionals before approval. Your photos can be bounced for the smallest reason. When that happens you will come back to read and pay attention to the tutorial the OP have been dropping.

Landscape photographs are the hardest to get approved.
A photograph with a landmark(E.g branded buildings like Banks, Malls etc) won't get approved

Etc.

As for payment you only get paid when someone pay for license to Shutterstock for your photo
