Anniversary as they say is a new hope for prosperity, but can that be said for Nigeria?
63 years old and we still have a long way to go.

From the ever increasing insecurity to the hardships due to the removal of fuel subsidy.

When will this stop? I hoped Mr President would address the nation on this issue.

Mr President in the early hours of independence day addressed the nation and discussed the matters arising as a result of the many recent reforms going around in the country.

Amongst different issues addressed, Mr President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu discussed about the minimum wage and how he plans to effect it to curb the ever rising inflation we all currently experience.

He talked about the fact that the removal of fuel subsidy was necessary and condemned those against it.

But due to this removal of subsidy, inflation soared and the poor man became poorer. With foodstuff, house rent and other basic amenities going up on a daily basis.

Mr President assured us that he is not turning a blind eye to the plight of fellow Nigerians.

Mr President said that there will be an increase in the minimum wage with an additional 25,000 naira.

Now what does this mean to everyday Nigerian youth, who are often labeled as "lazy" by the older generation and the political elite?

How does the increase in the minimum wage affect their lives, their aspirations, and their future?

The Good News

The increase in the minimum wage is undoubtedly a welcome relief for many Nigerian youth who are struggling to make ends meet in the face of rising inflation and unemployment.

With the extra 25,000 naira in their pockets, many Nigerian youth can afford to pay for their basic needs, such as food, rent, transportation, and education.

For example, a student who earns the minimum wage of 30,000 naira can now pay for his or her tuition fees, which range from 25,000 to 40,000 naira per semester in public universities.
