NewsRescue- I am Lekan Abayomi. Some of you may know me as a historian, others as a revisionist historian. But to myself, I simply believe I am a human being on the simple worthwhile quest for truth, peace and justice.

You’ve probably heard of and/or read the legendary “Harold Smith narrations,” and “confessions,” of a colonialist about the Nigerian North-South population census demographics of Nigeria. This was the pre-independence census of 1952-1953.

For those of us who have not read it, here is a clip from the very poorly worded document, published and circulated by a certain ‘M.B.B.S Dr.’ O A Olagbaiye in 2007.

The man Harold Smith is not new in Nigerian history. He is one of the architects of colonial foundation that midwife Nigerian independence in 1960.

I met him in a meeting three weeks ago where he opened up a bit about the lingering problem in Africa especially; Nigeria unbalanced protracted social political situations. We asked if he could make this known to the media. His response was “I am in my 80s now; I have agreed but in the past ‘they’ did not want me to say anything, but now I don’t want to go to my grave without telling the truth about the atrocities perpetrated in Africa by the colonialists.

Brothers and sisters; on Ben TV last Thursday, Harold Smith was on a program to reveal what went behind the scene before the independence. The Oxford University graduate had this to say about his role in Nigeria pre and after independence era.

‘Our agenda was to completely exploit Africa. Nigeria was my duty post. When we assessed Nigeria, this was what we found in the southern region; strength, intelligence, determination to succeed, well established history, complex but focused life style, great hope and aspirations… the East is good in business and technology, the west is good in administration and commerce, law and medicine, but it was a pity we planned our agenda to give power “at all cost” to the northerner. They seemed to be submissive and silly of a kind. Our mission was accomplished by destroying the opposition at all fronts. The west led in the fight for the independence, and was punished for asking for freedom. They will not rule Nigeria!

Harold Smith confessed that the Census results were announced before they were counted. Despite seeing vast land with no human but cattle in the north, we still gave the north 55 million instead of 32 Million. This was to be used to maintain their majority votes and future power bid. He stated that the West without Lagos was the most populous in Nigeria at that time but we ignored that. The north was seriously encouraged to go into the military. According to him, they believe that the south may attend western education, but future leaders will always come from military background. Their traditional rulers were to be made influential and super human.

This particular interview and document has been the fuel of grave insult, inter-ethnic beef, discredit and destruction on the Nigerian blogosphere.

But what brings its resurrection today is my decision out of an inborn curiosity for the truth, to study the matter in my usual methodical way.

Within 5 minutes of reading this, I was ashamed and highly disappointed in all the Nigerians who had read and cited this material.

Can ethnic bigotry really render a person so blinded, even when facts stare them in the face? And I did not absolve the Northerner of this feeling of disappointment, because either he is too nonchalant or preoccupied with lord-knows-what, to simply correct all of us, or maybe they did write, but we did not see it because they have less media and fora social presence, or we were too bitter and blinded to notice our folly when we did come across it.

What? Harold Smith said he gave the north 55 million in the 1953 census?

But the total figure for all Nigeria in that particular census was 31.6 million.

How could he have possibly said they gave the north 55 million, several million above the total result released for the entire population of Nigeria?

I have not watched the Harold Smith interview on Ben TV. I could not get the video online. But such a grave mathematical boner as documented and widely spread by the “M.B.B.S Dr.” O A Olagbaiye, smacks of dis-ingenuity, dishonesty and if from the late Harold Smith, it can only be attributed to senile issues. He was in his late 70s.

But my main contention is with the educated Nigerians who have passed this bold error on, repeatedly in discourses and publications online without even considering the material they were patronizing. It’s a shame. Perhaps Harold Smith said the right thing, but the wrong thing that spread and we spread, tells what we have become – Carrion eaters.

When people have a mission or objective, sometimes it completely blinds them and pushes them to error and terror.

In my pursuit of truth, I decided to dig deeper.

The next thing I noticed was that Harold Smith according to his memorial website, was only posted to Nigeria in 1955.

Now, I know he was involved in Nigerian affairs before visiting Nigeria for the first time, but how true could his alleged account be on making the census based decisions if and when the then 26 year old young man only got to Nigeria in 1955? You can view the Harold Smith memorial here: http://haroldsmithmemorial./ This rather unusual website appears created by Nigerians, some of a “Movement for National Reformation,” oddly infatuated with Harold Smith. The likes of Olufemi Adefolaju and Taiwo Akinola write his eulogies and make podcasts of him.

I wish he were still alive to answer some of these very important questions. But should we really still be dealing with this decadent historical nonsense?

Next, with the editors of NewsRescue, we looked into Nigerian census data pre 1952. The crux of the matter that is used to cause discord is the proposition that the Southern population was and is actually larger than the North, which spans over 2/3rds of Nigerian land mass.

Harold Smiths mathematical boo-boo has been used to justify this position based on an impression that Harold Smith and his ilk manipulated the figures to enable the North win in election manipulations.

But this again is completely false.

Older Censuses Always Gave 55%

Nigeria had its best and more accurate censuses prior to this thumped 1952/53 record, and the figures were consistent with a similar ratio.

The 1921 census results gave the northern province a total of 10.26 million count and the south, 8.37 million.

Another census carried out in 1931 likewise gave the north a total count of 11.4 million and the south, 8.5 million.

So could there have been an epidemic in the north or massive carting away of northern slaves to overturn this trend? There’s no such event we are aware of. Considering Nigerian emigration, statistics show a higher disparity in favor of southern emigration.

The first attempt to know the Nigerian population was in 1921, which could be regarded as the best and the properly-controlled census in Nigeria. The most successful censuses after the first were those of 1931 and 1952/1953. It’s a really sorry road that the so-called intellectual Nigerians are treading. There is an obvious desperate effort to skew all events and poison minds of people against each other in social and physical terrorism.

Conspiracy To Disintegrate Nigeria?

What can Harold Smith and his friends’ intention be, for spreading this false and dis-unifying information across Nigeria? Does Harold and/or his friends wish to promote blood-shed and terror by stoking fires of suspicion, distrust and hate?

If you look at both previous censuses, before Harold was said to have come in and “given the north 55%,” the ratio of north to south was always 55 to 45, both in 1921 and 1931. And we don’t see the north with their religious family beliefs as having a lower but rather a higher growth rate. So perhaps Harold was saying - they in 1952 simply applied the same 55% north ratio without bothering to complete the count. In which case, the north could have actually been higher by then.

Was Harold all about justice or he was a white activist who hated the north for various sentimental reasons? Or perhaps he was just trying to sell his book and as such, falsehoods were promoted to stoke controversy and hike sales. In the conversation on census, “vast land with no human but cattle,” is clearly a statement of someone with little to no education.

Harold was queried on why he was just making these “revelations,” to which he responded about some sort of “appropriate time.” What is appropriate about the time, other than an alleged prediction by government quarters of the USA about a risk of ethnic fragmentation in Nigeria. Does he and his friends and fans think Nigerians are uneducated dumb puppets? We feel insulted at the cheap level of fabrication they invested in to plant discord in us.

Comments and threads in news media articles and fora show growing, explosive anger between Nigeria’s major ethnic groups. Southern groups are most represented, attacking either themselves or the north, while the north hardly talks or typographically represents itself.

“Tribalism” and Ethnic Disunity

Simple google searches show the ethnic aggregation as we find tons of “Igbo,’ fora, hundreds of Yoruba internet fora, numerous Niger Delta fora, but for the north, I was only able to find http://Gamji and a new http://Fulaniforum.com . Nothing else. This blogosphere skewing paves a path for lopsided discourse, interaction and history record and documentation, because in the world as we know it, history is merely his-story. What is said the most becomes truthy – a word coined after G. W. Bush used the novel method of deliberately manipulating public opinion via a firm presentation and re-presentation of non-facts. Today we know the Iraq war was purely for oil. So much for truthism.



We can only blame the north for being too media-silly, taking from the words purported to Harold Smith.

Talking about colonial insults, it is interesting to recognize that no group in Nigeria had impunity to this and the Hausa’s who today it is convenient to discredit, have actually received the highest praise at some points.

Together or Peacefully Apart – The Way Forward

For Nigeria to move forward, Indigenization must be scrapped. If you live anywhere long enough, you should be a citizen of that area, and able to contest for governorship elections there. Obama, the Kenyan mans son would never be allowed to contest for president of Nigeria. Think of this.

Rotation of presidency too must be dumped in the gutter. All we need rotate is great, decent, wise, intellectual people. I found impressive the well defined statement of one of the most respected northern spiritual leaders, Sheikh Sani Jingir, who declared “Rotation of Presidency,” non democratic. This is the way we must think.

It is time as I heard in a very intelligent lecture -Nigerians need to talk less, do some- by a young physician, for Nigeria to put its past behind it, colonial and leadership woes, and behave as intelligent human beings, non-tribal, non-racist, non-sexist, non-xenophobic; being flag-bearers of civilization, “civil,” included in the term, for which Africa after all is the cradle. No nation on earth as he said, stays fixated in its bad past as we Nigerians do. These guys did theirs, what are you doing? What am I doing, other than lying, whining and bickering? NewsRescue- I am Lekan Abayomi. Some of you may know me as a historian, others as a revisionist historian. But to myself, I simply believe I am a human being on the simple worthwhile quest for truth, peace and justice.

You’ve probably heard of and/or read the legendary “Harold Smith narrations,” and “confessions,” of a colonialist about the Nigerian North-South population census demographics of Nigeria. This was the pre-independence census of 1952-1953.

For those of us who have not read it, here is a clip from the very poorly worded document, published and circulated by a certain ‘M.B.B.S Dr.’ O A Olagbaiye in 2007.

The man Harold Smith is not new in Nigerian history. He is one of the architects of colonial foundation that midwife Nigerian independence in 1960.

I met him in a meeting three weeks ago where he opened up a bit about the lingering problem in Africa especially; Nigeria unbalanced protracted social political situations. We asked if he could make this known to the media. His response was “I am in my 80s now; I have agreed but in the past ‘they’ did not want me to say anything, but now I don’t want to go to my grave without telling the truth about the atrocities perpetrated in Africa by the colonialists.

Brothers and sisters; on Ben TV last Thursday, Harold Smith was on a program to reveal what went behind the scene before the independence. The Oxford University graduate had this to say about his role in Nigeria pre and after independence era.

‘Our agenda was to completely exploit Africa. Nigeria was my duty post. When we assessed Nigeria, this was what we found in the southern region; strength, intelligence, determination to succeed, well established history, complex but focused life style, great hope and aspirations… the East is good in business and technology, the west is good in administration and commerce, law and medicine, but it was a pity we planned our agenda to give power “at all cost” to the northerner. They seemed to be submissive and silly of a kind. Our mission was accomplished by destroying the opposition at all fronts. The west led in the fight for the independence, and was punished for asking for freedom. They will not rule Nigeria!

Harold Smith confessed that the Census results were announced before they were counted. Despite seeing vast land with no human but cattle in the north, we still gave the north 55 million instead of 32 Million. This was to be used to maintain their majority votes and future power bid. He stated that the West without Lagos was the most populous in Nigeria at that time but we ignored that. The north was seriously encouraged to go into the military. According to him, they believe that the south may attend western education, but future leaders will always come from military background. Their traditional rulers were to be made influential and super human.

Facts from Malicious Conspicuous Fabrication

This particular interview and document has been the fuel of grave insult, inter-ethnic beef, discredit and destruction on the Nigerian blogosphere.

But what brings its resurrection today is my decision out of an inborn curiosity for the truth, to study the matter in my usual methodical way.

Within 5 minutes of reading this, I was ashamed and highly disappointed in all the Nigerians who had read and cited this material.

Can ethnic bigotry really render a person so blinded, even when facts stare them in the face? And I did not absolve the Northerner of this feeling of disappointment, because either he is too nonchalant or preoccupied with lord-knows-what, to simply correct all of us, or maybe they did write, but we did not see it because they have less media and fora social presence, or we were too bitter and blinded to notice our folly when we did come across it.

What? Harold Smith said he gave the north 55 million in the 1953 census?

But the total figure for all Nigeria in that particular census was 31.6 million.

How could he have possibly said they gave the north 55 million, several million above the total result released for the entire population of Nigeria?

I have not watched the Harold Smith interview on Ben TV. I could not get the video online. But such a grave mathematical boner as documented and widely spread by the “M.B.B.S Dr.” O A Olagbaiye, smacks of dis-ingenuity, dishonesty and if from the late Harold Smith, it can only be attributed to senile issues. He was in his late 70s.

But my main contention is with the educated Nigerians who have passed this bold error on, repeatedly in discourses and publications online without even considering the material they were patronizing. It’s a shame. Perhaps Harold Smith said the right thing, but the wrong thing that spread and we spread, tells what we have become – Carrion eaters.

When people have a mission or objective, sometimes it completely blinds them and pushes them to error and terror.

In my pursuit of truth, I decided to dig deeper.

The next thing I noticed was that Harold Smith according to his memorial website, was only posted to Nigeria in 1955.

Now, I know he was involved in Nigerian affairs before visiting Nigeria for the first time, but how true could his alleged account be on making the census based decisions if and when the then 26 year old young man only got to Nigeria in 1955? You can view the Harold Smith memorial here: http://haroldsmithmemorial./ This rather unusual website appears created by Nigerians, some of a “Movement for National Reformation,” oddly infatuated with Harold Smith. The likes of Olufemi Adefolaju and Taiwo Akinola write his eulogies and make podcasts of him.

I wish he were still alive to answer some of these very important questions. But should we really still be dealing with this decadent historical nonsense?

Next, with the editors of NewsRescue, we looked into Nigerian census data pre 1952. The crux of the matter that is used to cause discord is the proposition that the Southern population was and is actually larger than the North, which spans over 2/3rds of Nigerian land mass.

Harold Smiths mathematical boo-boo has been used to justify this position based on an impression that Harold Smith and his ilk manipulated the figures to enable the North win in election manipulations.

But this again is completely false.

Nigeria had its best and more accurate censuses prior to this thumped 1952/53 record, and the figures were consistent with a similar ratio.

The 1921 census results gave the northern province a total of 10.26 million count and the south, 8.37 million.

Another census carried out in 1931 likewise gave the north a total count of 11.4 million and the south, 8.5 million.

So could there have been an epidemic in the north or massive carting away of northern slaves to overturn this trend? There’s no such event we are aware of. Considering Nigerian emigration, statistics show a higher disparity in favor of southern emigration.

The first attempt to know the Nigerian population was in 1921, which could be regarded as the best and the properly-controlled census in Nigeria. The most successful censuses after the first were those of 1931 and 1952/1953. It’s a really sorry road that the so-called intellectual Nigerians are treading. There is an obvious desperate effort to skew all events and poison minds of people against each other in social and physical terrorism.

Conspiracy To Disintegrate Nigeria?

What can Harold Smith and his friends’ intention be, for spreading this false and dis-unifying information across Nigeria? Does Harold and/or his friends wish to promote blood-shed and terror by stoking fires of suspicion, distrust and hate?

If you look at both previous censuses, before Harold was said to have come in and “given the north 55%,” the ratio of north to south was always 55 to 45, both in 1921 and 1931. And we don’t see the north with their religious family beliefs as having a lower but rather a higher growth rate. So perhaps Harold was saying - they in 1952 simply applied the same 55% north ratio without bothering to complete the count. In which case, the north could have actually been higher by then.

Was Harold all about justice or he was a white activist who hated the north for various sentimental reasons? Or perhaps he was just trying to sell his book and as such, falsehoods were promoted to stoke controversy and hike sales. In the conversation on census, “vast land with no human but cattle,” is clearly a statement of someone with little to no education.

Despite being a mathematics professor, Shilgba did not question such document, but swallowed and promoted the mathematically repugnant material knowingly or unknowingly to the triumphant glory of ethnic strife.

Harold was queried on why he was just making these “revelations,” to which he responded about some sort of “appropriate time.” What is appropriate about the time, other than an alleged prediction by government quarters of the USA about a risk of ethnic fragmentation in Nigeria. Does he and his friends and fans think Nigerians are uneducated dumb puppets? We feel insulted at the cheap level of fabrication they invested in to plant discord in us.

Comments and threads in news media articles and fora show growing, explosive anger between Nigeria’s major ethnic groups. Southern groups are most represented, attacking either themselves or the north, while the north hardly talks or typographically represents itself.

“Tribalism” and Ethnic Disunity

Simple google searches show the ethnic aggregation as we find tons of “Igbo,’ fora, hundreds of Yoruba internet fora, numerous Niger Delta fora, but for the north, I was only able to find http://Gamji and a new http://Fulaniforum.com . Nothing else. This blogosphere skewing paves a path for lopsided discourse, interaction and history record and documentation, because in the world as we know it, history is merely his-story. What is said the most becomes truthy – a word coined after G. W. Bush used the novel method of deliberately manipulating public opinion via a firm presentation and re-presentation of non-facts. Today we know the Iraq war was purely for oil. So much for truthism.



We can only blame the north for being too media-silly, taking from the words purported to Harold Smith.

Talking about colonial insults, it is interesting to recognize that no group in Nigeria had impunity to this and the Hausa’s who today it is convenient to discredit, have actually received the highest praise at some points.

Together or Peacefully Apart – The Way Forward

For Nigeria to move forward, Indigenization must be scrapped. If you live anywhere long enough, you should be a citizen of that area, and able to contest for governorship elections there. Obama, the Kenyan mans son would never be allowed to contest for president of Nigeria. Think of this.

Rotation of presidency too must be dumped in the gutter. All we need rotate is great, decent, wise, intellectual people. I found impressive the well defined statement of one of the most respected northern spiritual leaders, Sheikh Sani Jingir, who declared “Rotation of Presidency,” non democratic. This is the way we must think.

NewsRescue- During Europe’s persecution of the Church and the Dark ages, it is known that the Muslim world saved knowledge and indeed Christianity, that later re-flourished during the renaissance. Research into the genesis of Islamic radicalism, which is a rather recent phenomenon in global political dimensions, and as is commonly known, takes root from Afghanistan in the cold-war era, leads to a most surprising find at the root of so-called Islamic fundamentalism,- School books. Perhaps radicalism is neither native nor accidental.

Al Qaeda remains at the forefront of the known axis of Islamic terror. Today, this has spread its tentacles to almost all nations of the world. Its source and the epicenter of this corrosive monster, that now includes AQIM(Al Qaeda in the Maghreb) of Northern Africa, Boko Haram in northern Nigeria, Al Shabaab of Somalia, LIFG (Libyan Islamic Fighting Group) of Libya, the Syrian terror insurgency, Jundullah of Iran, to mention a few dendrites, is Afghanistan and the Taliban/al Qaeda terror nidus.

What converted the Afghanistan into this terror radiating machine? Perhaps the answer lies in a 53 million dollar project conducted from 1980-1994 from the US University of Nebraska, Pakistan campus. A US funded project that printed textbooks to teach Afghanistan children in school the art or war and terror. Millions of books were made and printed in Pakistan under this project and disbursed to Afghanistan schools to teach the kids to love war and so-called Jihad. Dead Russians and guns and other weaponry were the material in these books made for the young readers, to imprint a culture of violence in their infantile minds.

These books are yet to be replaced in Afghanistan and were the focus of several articles in papers like the Washington post, UK Telegraph etc after the fall of Afghanistan. These findings also provoke wonder- what else exists in educational material of post-colonial nations, that messes with minds?

In the twilight of the Cold War, the United States spent millions of dollars to supply Afghan schoolchildren with textbooks filled with violent images and militant Islamic teachings, part of covert attempts to spur resistance to the Soviet occupation.

The primers, which were filled with talk of jihad and featured drawings of guns, bullets, soldiers and mines, have served since then as the Afghan school system’s core curriculum. Even the Taliban used the American-produced books, though the radical movement scratched out human faces in keeping with its strict fundamentalist code.

As Afghan schools reopen today, the United States is back in the business of providing schoolbooks. But now it is wrestling with the unintended consequences of its successful strategy of stirring Islamic fervor to fight communism. What seemed like a good idea in the context of the Cold War is being criticized by humanitarian workers as a crude tool that steeped a generation in violence.

“The pictures [in] the texts are horrendous to school students, but the texts are even much worse,” said Ahmad Fahim Hakim, an Afghan educator who is a program coordinator for Cooperation for Peace and Unity, a Pakistan-based nonprofit.

An aid worker in the region reviewed an unrevised 100-page book and counted 43 pages containing violent images or passages.

The military content was included to “stimulate resistance against invasion,” explained Yaquib Roshan of Nebraska’s Afghanistan center. “Even in January, the books were absolutely the same . . . pictures of bullets and Kalashnikovs and you name it.”

During the Taliban era, censors purged human images from the books. One page from the texts of that period shows a resistance fighter with a bandolier and a Kalashnikov slung from his shoulder. The soldier’s head is missing.

….In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Education Center for Afghanistan, located in Peshawar, Pakistan, and operated by the Afghan mujahidin (holy warriors), published a series of primary education textbooks replete with images of Islamic militancy. These schoolbooks provided the mujahidin (who, after a ten-year struggle, drove the Soviet occupying forces from Afghanistan in 1989) with a medium for promoting political propaganda and inculcating values of Islamic militancy into a new generation of holy warriors prepared to conduct jihad against the enemies of Islam. Consider the following introduction to the Persian alphabet in a first-grade language arts book:

“A” is for Allah, “J” is for jihad

Bi [is for] Father (baba).
Father goes to the mosque…

- If out of 10 atheists, 5 are killed by 1 Muslim, 5 would be left.

NewsRescue- A suspected Boko Haram terrorist just bombed the St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Ungwar Yero, Malali, Kaduna.

The terrorist reportedly attempted to drive his car through the gates. When blocked from doing so by security, he allegedly reversed and rammed the gate before detonating his powerful explosives. The explosion was heard far off in Kaduna, up to the GRA.

There is no detailed report of the number of causalities, however the pastor was said to have been among the injured.
Fake related accident video posted by suspicious characters

A non related (fake) video from outside Nigeria as evident by the car plate numbers and taxi cabs (possibly Ghanaian), was posted on youtube and said to have occurred due to the shock of the explosion. In the non-related Youtube video, several are seen dead and injured as a trailer truck veered off the road in Kaduna. A man is seen holding a boy with a severed head as a woman beside him wails. Two other victims are seen lying immobile on the street. Please note- this is a fake video and attempt by unscrupulous characters to provoke sectarian strife.

There are many groups and individuals in Nigeria who wish to foment sectarian strife to achieve their wicked motives, which include the promotion of a violent disintegration of the country.

Boko Haram is a Kanuri, North East based sect which operates out of Borno and Yobe states as well as neighboring Niger republic and Mali. The deadly sect has been responsible for at least a thousand deaths for the last two years in the Northern parts of Nigeria.

Police have been mobilized to prevent frustrated Kaduna youth from taking revenge on innocent people for the actions of this terrorist sect.

Of recent, Catholic Churches have more commonly been the victim of Bombings against Christians.

NewsRescue- Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka is famed to have described the Nigeria ruling political party, PDP as a “nest of killers”. He also clearly in April, proclaimed that PDP was responsible for Boko Haram terrorism. Current events have proven the professor, highly accurate in his assessment of this threat that has defied logic and consumed lives of innocent Nigerians of all creeds and works of life, in the hundreds.

It is unfortunate, but as we wrote a while ago, democracy does not work for Africa. The multiparty(and even 2 party) system of western democracy, simply leads to and foments inter-ethnic hate, violence and organized terror.

MEND (Movement for Emancipation of the Niger Delta) was very well documented to have evolved from thugs, armed an utilized by the then governor of Port Harcourt, Peter Odili, for his political campaigns. In like fashion, the Boko Haram terrorists were reportedly armed by the then governor of Borno, Ali Modu Sheriff, who allegedly used them as thugs in his political campaigns.

For starters, Asari Dokubo, the self-styled ‘mujahedin’ leader of MEND was no more than thug who had been closely associated with Peter Odili and played a pivotal role in seeing to it that the 2003 elections produced the ‘right’ result for Odili and his PDP cronies. It was only a falling out between these two hyenas that led Dokubo to ‘discover’ the plight of his oppressed people and take up arms on their behalf. Wole Soyinka understood the dynamics of Boko Haram, as he explained earlier this year. There are extremists, who if armed are ready to kill anyone of another religion, or even anyone of same faith, who they are convinced does not abide by their extreme versions of religion. These extremists have been armed by the Kanuri political institutes of North East Nigeria and utilized to further their non specific and every day goals in regional and national political games.

Recent revelations from arrested Senator Ndume’s court proceedings, and an exchange between the Senator in whose domain, a Boko Haram kingpin was arrested and the ex-governor of Borno, Modu Sheriff, have brought these fundamental, strategic aspects of Boko Haram, a mere political thug menace to light.

Senator Ndume gave AGF’s mobile number to Boko Haram – SSS

Mr. Ineh, who was the Chairman of the Special Investigation Panel, SIP, set up to investigate Mr. Ndume, said that a former spokesman of Boko Haram, Ali Konduga, revealed the information to the panel. He said Mr. Konduga informed the panel that the senator provided him with the telephone number of Mr. Adoke.

The witness allegedly told the panel that the number was used to bargain a governorship petition filed by the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Borno state.

Mr. Ineh said that the former Boko Haram spokesman testified that the calls to Mr. Adoke were threats to spur him to influence the Governorship Election Tribunal members to cede the state’s election victory to PDP or risk mayhem in the State.

He explained that the name of the Attorney General was dragged into the panel report submitted on November 25, 2011 on the grounds that his GSM number was found in Mr. Konduga’s telephone set.

Mr. Ineh, in his testimony, further said that the items found in the senator’s telephone were indicative of his close connection with the dreaded group.

“The fact that Konduga was tried and convicted of terrorism acts is enough to show that the accused is also liable,’’ he said. Read more…

The second piece, a Sheriff granted BBC interview, is part of the ongoing tirade between Sheriff and Zanna:

It is laughable that instead of defending his obvious involvement with Boko Haram, given his past antecedence where people finger him as illegal importer of arms via his Hajj-by-road fame, Senator Zanna is desperately looking somebody to hang for his sins.

It is common knowledge in Borno state that Senator Zanna takes along some hapless Nigerians on a seeming religious voyage by road only to put some of the them into terrorist activity and illegal arms importation. Some of the so-called pilgrims by road have been traced to terrorists’ camps in Afghanistan and Syria, and not Saudi Arabia, their preferred destination. It is very much on record that 27 of such pilgrims are still missing uptill date.

Senator Zanna’s inconsistencies in trying to defend himself are clear indication of a sinking man’s desperate attempt to hang himself on anything available in order to save his neck. If not so, what would his nephew be doing in the so-called house of Senator Ali Sheriff, the man he said is his political rival?

Contrary to his claims in the media that he had parted ways with the suspect, we can authoritatively confirm that his nephew, Shuaibu, was still his associate up to the time of his arrest.

It is an act in futility for him to try to name Ali Sheriff as an accomplice in his nefarious activity with Boko Haram, knowing fully well that the wild allegations being leveled by him will never amount to an acquittal of his guilt.

The one million dollar question is why has Senator Zanna never spoken against the atrocities being committed by Boko Haram, rather he has been calling for the declaration of state of emergency or the disbandment of the JTF which he knew are antithetical to the quest for peace.

Again being the second senator fingered, as having links with Boko Haram, it is a confirmation of the wildly believed theory that the PDP in Borno state is the engine room behind Boko Haram.

At his age and with the position he holds as a senator of the Federal Republic we felt it is the height of un-patrioticism and irresponsibility for Senator Ahmed Zanna to not only fuel the crisis in Borno, but to attempt to drag the names of descent citizens, like Ali Sheriff in the mud.

We know that since his inauguration Senator Ahmed Zanna has never visited Borno nor his constituency even for once can afford to play politics with the serious issue at stake by sponsoring terrorism against his own people.

On this note, we want to call on the relevant security authorities to fully investigate the incident and senator Zanna’s possible links with Boko Haram, and also his Hajj-by-road activities for which he was suspected to have used as a façade for the importation of arms and window for the training of terrorists.

Sadly, from these two pieces and other welling up evidence, it becomes clear that Boko Haram are thugs for the hire, like pit bull dogs, available to be used by various political interests in the Kanuri North East, and other crazies willing to pay their dues.

Boko Haram is not what they claim to be, a Muslim radical group with interests in de-westernizing Nigeria. That is simply a front they put up. They, in harassing the Attorney General, to impose a certain political party in the democratic, dare I say, western democratic dispensation, prove that they are mere hooligans for the hire.

Now, we must consider that the Attorney General did not concede to their threatening demands. The PDP candidate did not win the elections as governor Kassim Shettima of the ANPP was confirmed governor. The PDP candidate in the April 2011 governorship election, Alhaji Muhammadu Goni had filed a petition challenging the victory of the ANPP candidate, Alhaji Kashim Shettima. This was resolved with tough battles and tribunal proceedings. We can imagine that chaos we witness in Borno and environs is the fulfillment of this promise in response to the the failure of PDP candidate, Mohammed Goni's being declared winner.

ANPP contestant, Kashim Shetima succeeded his former ANPP boss, Modu Sheriff. This 2010 pre-election article gives a lot of insight into the ethnic, historical and political tension and war that Borno is composed of.

Automatically Mohammed Goni, who was the first civilian governor of Borno state, from 1979-1983, enters our list of Boko Haram suspected sponsors. After all it was to install him as governor in the contested April 26th elections that Boko Haram called the AGF and promised to unleash terror in the state. It is very unfortunate that individuals have lost their humanity and are wiling to support, sponsor and arm people and hold states and the entire nation hostage for their personal gain.

Democracy simply does not work in Africa. From Ivory coast to Sierra Leone, to Nigeria, the multiparty democratic system has built the worst types of intolerance and ethnic hate and division-ism and sectarian strife imaginable. With long lasting effects.

While many Nigerians were carried away by former president Buhari’s loud remarks, that ‘Nigeria will be ungovernable’ if the North did not reclaim sway. The silent direct threat to president Goodluck Jonathan, by the Kanuri exgovernor, the person of Mohammed Goni was not given much media and social thought.

Second Republic politician, Alhaji Mohammed Goni, has cautioned President Goodluck Jonathan to be wise about the pressure being mounted on him by some people to contest the presidential election in 2011. The governor of old Borno State advised the President not to be carried away by such calls. He told Daily Sun in Maiduguri: We should first admit that it was God that brought Jonathan to power. He has to be wise in responding to the calls of some people for him to contest.

“I appreciate all the comments of the people about this particular issue. When the security, peace and unity of the nation is threatened, good voices ought to come out to intervene. This rotational thing started during the Abacha constitution review exercise but we never knew Abacha was out to stay put. Again, there is this northern team which usually analyses political situation and offers credible suggestion that would protect the interest of the region even the mid-belt share from such arrangement.

“One thing I have found out in all constitution reviews is that people have never asked to be separated from the country but Nigerians have always been for fair treatment of their people. This, to me means that it has become unanimous for Nigerians to stay together where the South and the North will feel they are part of it.

“We should first admit that it was God that brought Dr Goodluck Jonathan to power. He has to be wise in responding to the calls of some people for him to contest. I am saying this not because I am a northerner. I’m also aware that there was a gentleman agreement by the PDP leadership years back about rotation of the Presidency. Interestingly, I am a member of PDP now. It doesn’t matter to me who occupies the office. It should be given to the region whose turn it is to produce the president, though it has only taken a single term of the two terms agreement reached during the Obasanjo era. It is easy to conclude what Boko Haram is and why it remains, despite the great success being achieved by the son of Dasuki, NSA(National Security Adviser). As long as Nigerian federal government does not put down a hard hand on these Kanuri politicians, who have gone out of control, Boko Haram terror will continue to spread from the Kanem-Borno empire to the rest of Nigeria.

The state has been led by politicians who are clearly affiliated with Boko Haram and used them for thuggery within the state and in ‘bullying’ the entire nation. How dare a state political party have Boko Haram terrorists call the Nigerian government and threaten to unleash mayhem in the state if their candidate does not win? It is not surprising that Nigerians are not reacting in most strong fashion to this revolting information release. The country has gotten completely complacent.

At this stage, military rule can be invited over the Kanemi empire till order is re-established and control restored. It is not likely that the civilian governorship of Kashim Shetima and the current enforcement of law, including the JTF(Joint task Force) presence can deal properly with these bigwigs, who continue to train, utilize and have Boko Haram ready for hire in all types of intimidation by crazy politicians, secessionists and other psychopaths in Nigeria and even abroad. The United States foreign intelligence council, CFR, said this of the Kanuri based Boko Haram terror group earlier this year:

Nigeria’s Boko Haram and MEND Similar?

Stratfor, the global intelligence company based in Austin, Texas, has published a thoughtful analysis that is well-worth reading, though I disagree with its fundamental premise. The starting point is a possible deal between President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration and the Delta militant leader Henry Okah, now imprisoned in South Africa (at Nigeria’s behest) for alleged terrorism. Okah has long been thought a senior leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) that carried out extensive attacks on the oil industry in the Niger Delta between 2005 and 2009. The article places MEND in the context of national politics and posits that a deal with Okah could be part of an effort to secure MEND’s cooperation in the run-up to the 2015 presidential elections, and the struggle for ruling party leadership, which, is suggested to be already underway. It directly ties MEND’s successes from 2005 to 2009 to its protection by the delta region’s governors and security officials. MEND’s activities largely stopped as the result of a national amnesty that included a massive payoff of MEND warlords and the region’s political leaders.

The article suggests that Boko Haram may be “The North’s answer to MEND.” That Boko Haram, like MEND, is protected by political insiders. The North has no oil, but Boko Haram has successful undermined public confidence in Jonathan’s ability to govern. So long as Boko Haram limits its operations to internal–not international–targets, it will survive.

Implicit in the argument is that Jonathan could end, or at least significantly decrease, Boko Haram’s activities by buying-off its leaders and according its sponsors with greater political influence. Read more…

Understanding these facts about Boko Haram, it’s being a regional, politics embedded revolutionary machine, gives insight into why the US refuses to list them as a global terror organization. The GEJ government must attack the regional caucus involved, brutally and firmly, once and for all. Meanwhile on tactical levels, it is believed that Boko Haram has moved most of its ops to Niger republic, due to JTF clamping down. Nigeria must answer and work with the Niger government to address the cross-border terrorism.

No Bomb Blast in NYSC Bauchi Camp; Naijapals please produce source

A statement from the Governor’s Office, signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ishola Michael Adeyemi, described the rumour as “baseless, unfounded and an information that cannot be substantiated by the mongers who are bent on disrupting the peaceful atmosphere in the state.”

Mr. Adeyemi described the story as the handiwork of a few enemies of peace who want to cause unnecessary panic among the people, particularly the corps members who are visitors to the state.

He assured families who have children and wards at the Wailo NYSC Orientation Camp that the situation there is calm and that corps members were seen going about their normal camp activities without any hindrance. He further called for the rumour to be disregarded as “adequate security measures have been provided at the Camp.”

Genesis: The Beginning Of North-South / Hausa-Igbo Beef in Nigeria

I was born in 1975. I grew up believing that the Hausa/Fulani of Nigeria were a very intolerant ethnic group of people.

That the Hausa’s were so wicked they simply picked on Igbo’s in Nigeria living up North and slaughtered them in droves. And that the unprovoked massacre of Igbo’s in the North prompted the Biafra secession event, which again resulted in another Hausa Muslim leadership led slaughter and genocide of Igbo’s in the South.

I believed for the first two decades of my life that the Hausa Muslims for no reason despised Igbo’s so much and that they ruled Nigeria almost entirely throughout its 50 years post independence, never giving an Igbo an opportunity to rule.

I associated Military rule and Military coups with Muslim Northerners.

I even associated the North of Nigeria with Islam and the South with Christianity. ‘Roughly divided’ between the two, as I always read in the news.

Little did I know that I was wrong in almost everything I grew up reading from the Nigeria predominantly Southern press, and European media.

They say that had Hitler won the war, history today would have been written in his favor. Perhaps the one great mistake the Hausa-Fulani-Kanuri and all Northerners ever made was not getting involved in western media, press and propaganda.

No Beef Till ’66

Igbo’s draw first blood in 1966

All was going well in Nigeria, post 1960 independence, with Tafawa Balewa, aka, the golden voice of Africa, was prime minister of the federation, and Nnamidi Azikiwe was commander in chief and president till January 1966.

In January 1966 an Igbo Major in the Nigerian army, Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu, who was born in Kaduna and had such family affinity to Kaduna, that he was popularly called, ‘Kaduna Nzeogwu’, a Catholic by faith decided to embark on a mission that will change Nigeria’s history forever.

In the early hours of January 15th, Kaduna Nzeogwu disgruntled over a list of items with the ruling political class, led an army of fellow Igbo Majors and a Yoruba, Ademoyega Adewale, in a military coup against the political leadership of Nigeria.

He and his team of Igbo comrades murdered Nigeria’s top brass Hausa’s in that Coup. Prime minister, Tafawa Balewa, a federal minister and two top regional premiers were among those murdered.

Kaduna Nzeogwu’s Igbo squad killed he premier of the Northern and Western regions but of course left the Igbo Eastern premiere alive.

He killed the Finance minister, who was Nigeria’s #3 man, but left the number #2 man.

The coup started failing when the ethnic nature of it was noticed. Neogwu confronted Captain Isong, the second-in-command at the 1 Recce Squadron, on account of a rumor that Isong was allegedly spreading in the barracks about the ethnic coloration of the unfolding events.

Azikiwe was left alive.

In essence Kaduna Nzeogwu’ coup was not a coup against the establishment only, but a targeted ethnic war, waged by himself and his fellow Igbo patriots against the Hausa-Fulani, who he grew up and served with.

Nzeogwu assassinated very many top Northern brass. Included and very significant was the Sardauna of Sokoto who was shot dead with his wives too.

A 21-year-old electrical engineering student has been charged with first-degree murder after parts of a man’s dismembered body were found in his home a week after the man first went missing.

Alexander Kinyua confessed to police that he also ate his roommate’s heart and portions of the brain after killing him in their Joppa, Maryland town home.

This is the second deeply disturbing report of cannibalism to sweep the nation within a week. In the first, ‘Miami Cannibal’ Rudy Eugene tore off and ate most of the face of down-and-out homeless man Ronald Poppo.

The Hartford County Sheriff’s office said they found the body parts while searching the town home on Terrapin Terrace in Joppa, Maryland, northeast of Baltimore, after receiving a tip from Kinyua’s father.

Police also found a human head and hands in metal tins on the house’s main floor, the Baltimore Sun reported.

According to charging documents, Kinyua admitted to eating Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie’s heart and part of his brain after stabbing him to death.

Kinyua then directed police to Towne Baptist Church on Trimble Road, where they said they found the rest of Agyei-Kodie’s remains.

The 37-year-old, who had been missing for almost a week, apparently shared a home with Kinyua, though other aspects of their relationship are not immediately clear.

Kinyua’s father, Antony Kinyua, alerted a detective on Tuesday night, saying that his other son Jarrod discovered what appeared to be a human head and hands in two metal tins above the washing machine.

Horrified, Jarrod Kinyua brought his father down to the basement where Antony said he saw Alexander Kinyu cleaning out the containers.

Appearing in court, Kinyua’s defence attorney told the judge that the Kenyan-born student has strong ties to Maryland, with several family members in the area.

However, Assistant State’s Attorney Trenna Manners said the man has had a troubled past and committed a grisly crime.

For one thing, Kinyu was kicked out of Morgan State University’s ROTC program in January following a disciplinary incident.

On May 20, he was charged with first-degree assault when he allegedly beat another Morgan State student with a baseball bat and then fled into the woods. The attack appeared to be random.

According to Patch, a preliminary hearing in the assault case is scheduled for June 19.

He was held on $220,000 bond and is in the process of being expelled from his college, according to the university.

His Facebook page details a man with a troubled mind. In some posts, he wrote of how campus shootings – like that of the 2007 tragedy at Virginia Tech – were not tragedies at all, but ethnic cleansings.

Last week, Rudy Eugene, believed to be high on drugs, viciously tore into a homeless man’s face with his teeth and growled at passers-by.

He was shot dead by police after the gruesome attack in Miami.

His victim, 65-year-old Ronald Poppo, remains in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital with his nose, mouth, and eyes torn off.

NewsRescue- News from Ghana about two individuals arrested when 65 pump-action guns were discovered in a hidden compartment, in a Nigerian licensed and bound truck at the Aflao border, Ghana is depressing. According to the Ghana News Agency:

The driver and mate of the truck carrying several boxes of ammunition which were impounded at the Aflao border on Friday have escaped from custody after their brief detention.

Both men are believed to be Nigerians who were trying to illegally smuggle the guns into the country.

A joint Police and CEPS team impounded the truck after a thorough search of the vehicle led to the retrieval of more than 50 guns.

The Aflao Sector Commander of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service, Seth Dovlo, in an interview with XYZ News said investigations have intensified to re-arrest the Nigerians.

He said a search has also been mounted for the owner of the truck.

This is the second time Nigerians have been arrested in the country for importing guns and ammunitions this year.

This is very disturbing news as higher authorities have always been implicated in the spate of terror in Nigeria. Such a high level call for release of gun and terror funding terrorists on a multinational scale is not only embarrassing of deadly proportion, but it brings into question the level of authorities both in Africa and perhaps overseas involved in creating chaos in Nigeria.

A Nigerian registered articulated truck, with 65 pieces of pump action guns has been intercepted by the Customs officials at the Aflao border.

The vehicle with registration number XV163-FST was said to have arrived at the border on Thursday, May 17, this year, at about 1900 hours, on its way to Accra, with no cargo on board.

Customs Officers at the last checkpoint who were said to suspicious ordered the driver to park at the vehicle park for examination the following morning, Friday.

Their suspicion heightened when early Friday morning the driver and his “mate”, whose identity was not known, could not be traced for the inspection to proceed.

At about 1600 hours, however, the officers commenced the inspection without the driver and the “mate” and the weapons were found embedded in a false apartment on the floor of the vehicle.

Some bundles of US dollars and Naira were also found in the compartment.

NewsRescue OpEd- I am sure you have recently heard or perhaps said, ‘Nigeria’s Northern rulers are responsible for the problems of the nation,’ or that ‘that Northern Cabal, those Arewa boys and that Northern rule…never again, we must have Southern and Middle Belt rule from now on.’

In February, Nigeria’s notorious MEND (Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta) militant leader, Mujaheed Dokubo-Asari, while leading a coalition of South South and middle belt youths for condolence to late Ojukwu’s home, expressed a warning that the North should forget about ruling Nigeria next election, adding that the leadership position must go to the South or Middle Belt.

Quoting the Tribune

Mujaheed Dokubo-Asari, has advised Northerners to forget the Presidency in 2015, insisting that the exalted position will remain in the South or go to the Middle Belt.

Fact is, not the North, but the Middle Belt ruled Nigeria the Longest!

So the first question we address on this topic of the Illusion of Northern rule is, who are the Middle Belt?

We can get a lot of information on this from an article published on January 29th, 2012:

The South usually blames the North for the decimation of the Biafra dream. But how real is this? Fact-check: It is very untrue. It was another Middle Belt leader, Yakubu Gowon, a Christian who hails from Kanke, Plateau state in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, that, together with his army commander, another Southern Christian from Ogun state, General and two-time president of Nigeria, Obasanjo (OBJ), led the assault of Biafra. In the Northern counter Aguyi Ironsi coup of 1966, according to Encyclopedia Britannica, Christian Gowon from the Middle Belt emerged as the ‘compromise’ head of the new government.

In this Youtube video, at 3 mins and 30 seconds, Gowon clearly acknowledges his being from the Middle Belt of Nigeria.

Indeed, according to NVS, and Wikipedia, the Middle Belt consists of:

BENUE, NASSARAWA, TARABA, ADAMAWA, PLATEAU, SOUTHERN KEBBI, KOGI, KWARA, NIGER, SOUTHERN KADUNA, FCT, SOUTHERN GOMBE, and the two minority local government areas of TAFAWA BALEWA and BOGORO in southern Bauchi State.

Nigeria’s prominent and most ‘remarkable’ leaders, the Babangidas, the Tafawa Balewas, the Abdulsalam Abubakars and the Gowons, blamed for most of the grievance of Nigeria, were all Middle Belt Nigerians.

In truth, the Sharia North has contributed very little to actual leadership of the Nation. And this area remains the most impoverished part of Nigeria, with the poverty level at 70-90%, at the low extreme of the combined 50% average. No surprise violence which is closely related to poverty is prominent in this Northern area.

The leaders from the ‘Sharia’/ Dan-Fodio North include: Shehu Shagari, Late Musa Yaradua, Late Murtala Muhammed and General Buhari, who is regarded by most Nigerians as having been one of Nigeria’s best and least corrupt leaders. Buhari together with his deputy, late general Tunde Idiagbon rejected IMF-SAP proposals which IBB later accepted, that crippled Nigeria. In like fashion, current president Goodluck Johnathan listened to the IMF and abruptly removed fuel subsidies, to the detriment of Nigeria.

In a statement by a prominent Middle Belt leader, Leonard Karshima Shilgba, PhD:

We the peoples of the Middle Belt in particular and non Dan Fodians, in general, must rise up and resist this egregiously inhuman vision with every sense of pride and purpose. You can never be wrong in seeking to be free. Some have derisively asked the clear description of the Middle Belt peoples. Socially speaking, all non-Dan Fodians in the geographical north and central north are Middle Belt people, the oppressed people, deceptively huddled up under the “One North” of Sir Ahmadu Bello. However, geographically, it is generally acceptable to many scholars from the region that the Middle Belt federation consists of people in the present BENUE, NASSARAWA, TARABA, ADAMAWA, PLATEAU, SOUTHERN KEBBI, KOGI, KWARA, NIGER, SOUTHERN KADUNA, FCT, SOUTHERN GOMBE , and the two minority local government areas of TAFAWA BALEWA and BOGORO in southern Bauchi State.

The Powerful Multicolored Belt; is not the North!

We immediately see the areas recognized as the Middle Belt by the Middle Belt itself. This raises two pertinent issues,- Why does the South fail to recognize that it is the large Middle Belt that was responsible for the issues of the past that they hold the ‘Dan-Fodio’/Sharia North responsible for? And secondly, is it possible to ever expect this same Middle Belt will stand against their Northern cousins and support the South?

Nigeria’s Middle Belt, just like any belt does, has historically fastened the South to the rest of Nigeria. Indeed this vast area of mixed tribes, including some who will associate as Northerners and others who will call themselves Southerners. A rich even mix of Muslims and Christians has long been the capital and command and control center of Nigeria. A quiet, hidden giant. Silently operating to foster unity and maintain its quiet dominance. Little surprise the capital of Nigeria is not situated in Lagos anymore and was not moved to the impoverished North, but was rather situated at Abuja, FCT, right beside IBB’s Niger state, in the Middle Belt.

Is a conclusive division of Nigeria possible with this multi-religio-ethnic vast Middle Belt?

Chimaroke Nnnamani, the then governor of Enugu State, in his speech delivered to the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Africa Republic Foundation (ARF), in Jos, in 2005, described the Middle Belt as ‘the Glue of the Nation’. As Middle Belt has come a long way in history, it has expanded on the political fillip of a feeling of system emasculation and oppression. Indeed, such feeling has drawn more who were not ordinarily, by geography and culture, considered by Middle Belt. Mid way, it was simply those who considered themselves unfortunate to be hemmed into the Northern Nigerian political system. That way, even some of the ethnic groups, evident northeast bound but living on the feeling of alienation, either by the old Northern system or the evolving Northeastern patch-up, had to seek succour under the umbrella of Middle Belt.

Further south, the Yoruba of Kwara and Kogi, Kabba, Ebira, Igala, Idoma, etc, had to be sucked into this emerging political feeling.

It is on account of this that it is currently argued that in terms of geopolitical territory, what may eventually spring up as the Middle Belt would be a behemoth squeezing apart the North and South of Nigeria, but constituting a seeming natural intervention between some alleged dominators and usurpists favoured at the transition of power from colonialism to nation.

It becomes clear that either Dokubo Asari for instance does not realize who the Middle Belt is and what they have represented in Nigeria’s history, or he for purposes best serving his strategic interests, chooses to ignore this.

Nigeria’s most infamous president, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida(IBB) is a true representative and leader from the Middle Belt. Is it the likes of that administration that Dokubo Asari and others who call upon a comradeship with the Middle Belt seek?

Now let us get to the Nitty-gritty of this subject. Nigeria’s leadership, Northern dominated or not?

The truth and facts immediately become glaring. The Middle Belt likes of Christian Yakubu Gowon and IBB held the reigns of power and are culpable for the success or clear failure of Nigeria more than any other group.

The western-literate Southern journalists and historians have re-written Nigeria’s history to create an illusion of Northern dominated rule. Perhaps it is time Northerners learned and participated more in journalism.

As noted above, it was under the tenure of Yakubu Gowon, a Christian from the Middle Belt that the Biafra project was decimated, and this decimation was led by his Southern General, soon to become leader, OBJ.

Religious Violence In Nigeria: Genesis & Motives & The Emergence Of Boko Haram As A Tool Of Vested Religious, Political & Foreign Interests

Introduction

NewsRescue[OpEd]- The Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) threatened that, the Christian Doctrine of ‘’Turning The Other Cheek’’ has been tested to the limit and breaking point and they can no longer contain and restrain their members from violently reacting to the killing and maiming their members and bombing of their churches as well as burning and looting of Christian property perpetrated by Muslims and their terror wing; the Boko Haram (BH) in short.

On the surface, CAN’s concerns are quite legitimate in that, they have the duty of protecting the interest of their members in the face of such wanton attacks. However, one needs to chronologically look at the chain of events that led to the deterioration and breakdown of peace, security, law and order in the country. It is only by looking at the chain of events that landed us here that we can apportion blames and pin down faults. We need to look at and answer the following questions before we can squarely and rightly pin point who is at fault and who is not:

What is the genesis of religious crisis and intolerance in the country?
Who triggered the chain of events that led to the present status quo?
Are Muslims the only culprits?
Is BH an Islamic terror wing?
Is it BH acting on behalf of Muslims with their authority, consent and approval?
Who are members of BH? Are all Muslims automatic members?
Is its membership restricted to Muslims only?
Are there no Christian links to BH?
Who sponsors and nurtures BH?
Who supplies them with arms, ammunition and bombs?
Is BH responsible for the bombing and torching of Mosques, the National Headquarters of Jama’atu Nasri Islam (JNI) in Kaduna and other Muslim targets?
Is CAN oblivious of the fact that, there are Christians linked to BH one way or another?
Is CAN unaware of the fact that, Christians are linked to the supply of weapons, arms, ammunition bombs and other instruments of terror and violence to BH?
Has CAN decided to overlook and ignore the fact that prominent Christian elders were the godfathers of Muhammad Yusuf, the founder of BH and that, it was these elders that always bailed out Muhammad Yusuf whenever he finds himself on the wrong side of the law?
Has CAN decided to gloss over the fact that, the last person Muhammad Yusuf called on his cell phone after his capture just before he was brutally murdered by a Christian policeman was this Christian godfather of his?
Why Muhammad Yusuf was hurriedly murdered? Was this hurried murder of Muhammad Yusuf an attempted cover up so as to avert exposing these godfathers of Muhammad Yusuf’s?
Is CAN unaware of Muhammad Yusuf’s suspected link with the Vatican?

Answers to these questions will clearly and easily debunk all the smear campaign by CAN and the heaping of blame on Muslims in an attempt to give a dog a bad name; as well as expose CAN’s shedding of crocodile tears in order to cover up the atrocities Christians committed against the Muslims.
Genesis & Chronology of Religious Disturbances

Our claim that, CAN is only shedding crocodile tears is because; religious disturbance and intolerance is deliberately triggered by the Christians in 1987 in the provocative preaching by one Reverend Abubakar Bako at the temporary site of Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya in which Rev. Bako insulted and made blasphemous comments on the person of our noble prophet Muhammad SAW. When a Muslim lady student protested and objected to Rev. Bako’s provocative desecration of the person of the prophet SAW, the lady was molested by the Christians; that kick started the first Kafanchan massacre of Muslims.

The Christians went berserk and went about killing Muslims, burning and looting their houses, shops and other properties. Even youngsters in Qur’anic schools (tsangayu) were not spared. Qur’anic schools such as the Tsangaya of Malam Ahmadu Dan Mai Kosai and that of Malam Uzairu were brutally attacked and dozens of Almajirais mercilessly exterminated. Many Muslims were forced to flee the town and turned refugees. Many of the established Muslim businessmen like Alhaji Dankeke Mato and Alhaji Salama lost their businesses and had to relocate to Kaduna. This premeditated genocide led to reprisals and retaliations in Kaduna, Funtua and Katsina.

The next act of provocation perpetrated by the Christians was the 1991 Reinhart Bonke’s botched up crusade of Kano which led to some disturbances. As a result, there were reprisals against the Muslims throughout the South East Geo-Political Zone.

Again in 1991, Sayawa Christians in Tafawa Balewa Local Government of Bauchi State provocatively massacred the Muslim District Head of Lere, Malam Abubakar Bawa despite his old age; being an octogenarian. As a result, Mr. Kyauta (alias Kyankyaso), the ring leader of this brutal murder, was convicted and jailed. On his release from prison, Kyankyaso spearheaded yet a genocide like attack against the Muslims in 1995. In the mayhem, in Tafawa Balewa alone, 166 Muslims were brutally massacred, the market in which the stalls were owned by Muslims was completely burnt down and over 70% of Muslim houses were razed to the ground. The whole Muslim community was displaced and turned refugees in towns like Dass, Bununu, Liman Katagum and Bauchi.

Justice Babalakin’s Commission of Inquiry indicted the Sayawa Christians thus:

The Christian attack on Muslims on 22/4/1991 in Tafawa Balewa was premeditated.
The Commission identified nearly 22 ringleaders who are all Sayawa Christians.
The Basayi Chriatian chairman of Tafawa Balewa Local Government aided and abetted the Massacre and genocide against the Muslims. (Justice Babalakin’s Report pages 4-8, 22 and 24).

Since then, Tafawa Balewa has not known peace for 3 consecutive years, and has witnessed 4 major ethnic cleansing style of Massacre of Muslims in the hands of the Christians; (April 1991, July 1995, June 2001 and January 2011). As a matter of fact, all houses belonging to Muslims in Tafawa Balewa have been burnt down. All mosques in the town have been razed to the ground; there is no single mosque standing in the town except the one at the divisional police station.

In a similar pattern of ethnic cleansing mission of wiping out Muslim communities, the Katafs massively massacred Muslims in Zangon Kataf in both February and July of 1992. Hundreds of Muslims were killed and their houses burnt down. The Christian ring leaders of the massacres including Zamani Lekwot were convicted and sentenced to death by the tribunal headed by Justice Karibi Whyte; a Christian. Zamani and his gang of murders were however pardoned by the then president; to the dismay of the Muslims. That opened the floodgates and gave Christians the license to massacre Muslims at will; since the murderers always go scot free.

Analysts equate what this Northerner Muslim president did to Islam and Northern Nigeria to what Kamal Ataturk did to Islam and the Muslims in Turkey as well what Mikhail Gorbachev did to USSR.

With these precedents set in the cases of Kafanchan 1987, Tafawa Balewa 1991 & 1995, Zangon Kataf 1992, the stage was set for the systematic extermination and wiping out of all Muslim communities within the domains and strongholds of Christians in the North. It is pertinent here to recall and remind of the catalogue of Christian atrocities, provocations, premeditated brutal attacks of genocide and ethnic cleansing proportions against the Muslims as follows:

Kafanchan 1987, 1996, 1999 and 2011.
Tingno and Waduku in Numan L. G. Area of Adamawa State, 1988.
ABU Zaria, 1988.
Tafawa Balewa 1991, 1995, 2001 and 2011.
Jalingo 1988.
Bambam 1992.
Zangon Kataf, February and July 1992.
Jos, 2001, 2003, 2008, 2009 & 2011.
Yelwan Shendam, 2005.
Kaduna, 2000, 2004 & 2011.
Zonkwa, 2011.
Mararraban Rido, 2011.
Matsirga, 2011, etc.

In all the cases listed above and many more, the Christians will systematically plan, get fully armed and launch commando type attacks on the Muslim community targeted; killing and exterminating any Muslim unable to escape they come across, loot and burn their properties including houses, shops, markets and mosques.

In the case of year 2,000 Anti-Shari’ah crisis in Kaduna, the Christians decided that, Muslims do not have the right to observe the Shari’ah legal system. In premeditated attacks, Muslims were wantonly attacked and killed and their properties torched. When Muslims in Tudun Wada, Rigasa and other Muslim strongholds within Kaduna Metropolis rebutted this Christian onslaught, there were counter reprisals in the South East and South South. A Friday Mosque was burnt down in Ofaha-Oku, Uyo.

From the above catalogue, it is quite clear that, Christians are always the aggressors and the ones that spark and ignite unrest and mayhem. Muslims have never started any aggression; where Muslims have cause to attack Christians, it is always in retaliation to Christian premeditated aggression or extreme provocation such as Rev. Abubakar Bakos provocative, blasphemous insults on Muhammad, the Noble Prophet of Islam, peace be upon him, or the inciting advertisements that heralded the proposed Reinhardt Bonke’s crusade in Kano, the heartland of Islam.

CAN’s fictitious and deceptive claim of always being at the receiving end of Muslim aggression is hereby amply debunked. It amply shows that, the Christians have since thrown the doctrine of turning the other cheek over board. CAN’s advertorial is only diversionary and an attempt to pull the wool over our faces to cover up their atrocities.
Boko Haram cannot be a Muslim Terror Wing

Coming to the CAN’s claim that, BH is the terror wing the Muslims use to unleash terror on the Christians; burning their churches and destroying Christian lives and property, without any fear of contradiction, one can say loud and clear that, BH is as close to the Christians as it is to the Muslims and apparently, its membership cuts across both religions. Otherwise what is the business of Jerry and Jerry being godfathers to Muhammad Yusuf, the founder of the BH; bailing Muhammad Yusuf out of trouble on a number of occasions? There is also the information circulating that, one of the Jerry’s was the last person Muhammad Yusuf called just before he was hurriedly executed by a Christian policeman. Was this hurried murder of Muhammad Yusuf an attempt to cover up and prevent him from talking and exposing his Christian and suspected Vatican connections? For Muhammad Yusuf was alleged said to have sent an emissary to the Vatican at least once. It is alleged that, it was the kind of red carpet reception the emissary received at the Vatican that made the emissary suspicious of BH’s Christian connection and resigned his membership of the organization. Other links between Christianity and BH include Lucy Dangana, a Christian lady from Benue State caught with large quantity of arms. Lucy confessed that, she was trying to deliver the arms to BH. There is also case of the Christian SSS operative allegedly caught trying to bomb a church in Gombe, circulating in our handsets. The story is yet to be disputed by the authorities. There is yet the story circulating of a Christian wearing kaftan and other Hausa gear trying to bomb a church. The most recent BH linkage with Christians is the truck load of arms intercepted in Ghana on its way to Nigeria; all those arrested are Christians from their names.

Malnutrition in Nigeria {MSF}

NewsRescue- Results from a survey conducted by Save the Children, an international NGO, reveal that 27% of Nigerian children sometimes go an entire day without food. India also had a similar figures, with 24% of respondents reporting not being able to feed their children for an entire day. The surveys were conducted in India, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Peru and Pakistan. These five countries were chosen because they are home to half of the worlds malnourished children.

The survey was conducted with face-to-face interviews in Nigeria, in main languages of English, Hausa, Igbo and pidgin, from December 19 to 27, 2011.

“The majority of parents in Nigeria (58%) say that their children complain about not having enough food to eat—a rate much higher than any of the other countries surveyed. Almost two thirds (61%) of families in Nigeria say they eat one staple food, such as maize, rice, or bread, and nothing else for at least a week. Almost half of India and Peru say the same (46% each).” The survey stated.

According to the 24 page report in which 1,000 rural and urban pockets were sampled, both India and Nigeria are emerging economies that are not yet able to deliver the benefits of growth to their peoples. In both countries, there are a large number of children whose growth has been stunted by malnutrition and hunger. The report blamed political will for India’s problems,- “India has various social protection programmes in place, they are not focused on improving nutrition for infants and children and are not reaching a number of the most excluded and marginalised communities.”

The executive director of Save the Children, Justin Forsyth, said: “The world has made dramatic progress in reducing child deaths, down from 12 to 7.6 million, but this momentum will stall if we fail to tackle malnutrition.”

Our January article {There is a GLOBAL FAMINE } described a current global famine, not being publicized, and we detailed the factors responsible for this famine and what could be done to stem it. The report by Save the Children highlighted some of these factors, which include, diversion of farmland for food crops to cash crops due to world bank and SAP policies in the ‘developing’ nations, extreme weather conditions, speculative trading of food commodities and the current global financial crisis, as being responsible for the soaring of food prices globally and the epic children malnutrition in the sampled nations.

Nigerians surveyed with a 95% total agreement response, were by far the most to describe rising food prices as their most significant concern last year, Bangladesh followed, and the other countries surveyed gave similar complaints. The staples most consumed in hard times, were Gari in Nigeria and Rice in Bangladesh.

“Nearly 66 percent respondents in India said rising food prices have been a pressing concern in 2011, while nearly 17 percent parents said their children skipped school to go to work and pay for food…. More than a quarter of people in India (27 percent) report that they can never afford to buy staple foods such as meat, milk, or vegetables for their families every week,” the report further said.

Nigeria- 30% and Peru followed with 17% respondents answering that they had, had their children skip school to help earn money for food.

Describing malnutrition as a silent killer, which takes over 2 million lives a year, with over 300 children dying of chronic malnutrition every hour, the report put an estimated 15 billion children at risk over the next 15 years.

In the countries surveyed, the report said “, the findings indicate that the benefits of this economic growth have not been felt across all sections of society. Significant proportions in all countries have been impacted by the rise in food prices, and its effects appear to be most concentrated among low-income and low-educated groups and those with large families.”

Nigeria and India, both powerful emerging economies are commonly criticized for having lackadaisical government institutions. Nigeria tops world ratings for government corruption, and over 14 years of democracy has failed significantly improve the HDI (Human Development Index) and narrow the economic gap between the rich-connected few and the teeming poor masses. Radical bombings in the Northern areas, which have the highest poverty levels, about 70-90%, compared to the 50% National average, have recently put Nigeria on the global terror map.

Malnutrition has been a chronic problem in Nigeria, according to Doctors without borders in 2005, reporting on Borno, Maiduguri, not coincidentally the source of much radical outbursts:  “The child’s weight falls below 70 percent of what is normal. This is quite alarming and particularly unacceptable in conflict-free Borno state. In the area where we work right now we expect up to 900 severely malnourished children who might die if they don’t get medical care and nutritional support. And this number only represents a small part of Borno state.”

Describing why so many were malnourished: “The reasons are multifaceted. There are several chronic factors such as mainly young mothers who stop breastfeeding too early and are unable to give their babies a healthy, varied diet. Chronic food insecurity is another problem that not only affects northern Nigeria but a sub-Saharan zone spanning from Mauritania to Niger and Sudan to Ethiopia. Food stocks are depleted because rains have been patchy for years and last year locust swarms devastated many crops.”

Rising food prices and the current global famine has been described as the single most important, root cause of riots all over the world, from the Middle East Arab Spring riots, which toppled several governments, to the ‘Robin-hood‘ riots in the UK, and the ‘Occupy‘ protests still ongoing in North America and much of Europe. Many European governments have also been dismissed or are being dismissed, including governments of Greece and Italy.

Poor global international monetary policies and corporate greed with speculative trading are some of the major modifiable factors that deserve immediate attention to stem the global food price hike.

NewsRescue- Classified reports reaching our news desk, indicate that certain websites are engaged in an intense cyber war against Nigeria and its people. Cyber propaganda wars are frequently carried out via online and mobile platforms, to foment discord, stoke the fires of tribal, religious or other sentiment – ultimately resulting in deadly violence and destabilization.

We can clearly implicate NaijaJive, but it appears Republic Report is only guilty by association and lax operational guidelines. We do hope the later is the case for this news media outlet.

In a widely circulated article, an alleged Boko Haram- Christianity convert, appears to point fingers at Nigeria’s ex president from Niger State in the Middle Belt, Babangida (IBB) among many other Nigerians. The article which is presented as an interview is perfectly articulated, with extraordinary composition, brilliant grammar, a concise message and tertiary level vocabulary. Clearly not produced by a novice, very possibly a trained intelligence operative.
Article source, ‘Naijajive’, a propaganda website or ‘cheap publicity’?

The two articles appeared suddenly on the internet on February 2nd and 3rd. Both posted by a certain ‘Rossquo‘, a ‘Global moderator’ of a surprisingly brand new forum online, ‘NaijaJive’. IT experts upon investigating Naijajive discovered it to be a brand new website, with no logo, no online reputation, a current Alexa internet presence score of 3,700,000, which corresponds to no activity.

We further checked the type of posts on Naijajive and found them all to be recent, rapid, by the same posters and all of an anti-Nigeria or anti-Islam agenda.

Upon investigation, we found that the domain, only created and registered on 21st, November 2011, was registered by

Schlumberger of 10 Edun street Ladipo, Lagos, Nigeria

Our several attempts to contact the site administrative contact: Fayanjuola, Gbeminiyi, were fruitless.

Boko Haram convert; fingers IBB, false article

In addition to the article of an alleged Boko Haram convert, Sheik Sani Haliru, in which IBB was fingered, there was another supportive article posted on February 3rd, 2012 of an alleged convert, Paul Ado Bayero, who was spoken of in the initial February 2nd article. Apparently, the second, article was created urgently to backup the first article and give it more cyber-credence.

Investigating the pungent article that has gained amazing internet traction in just a few days. We found the following points indicating a clear cyber warfare agenda against Nigeria.

The articles have no source, except the Rossquo forum moderator who posted them.
Both articles were created and entered suspiciously in February 2012, one day apart.
Both articles are written in exactly the same language and lexicon.
Both articles are supposedly from Books, which can not be found any where on line or off line.
The same undercover Rossquo identity pushed and published the article by himself on Republic Report
From his profile, it can be seen that moderator, ‘Rossquo‘, who posted and distributed both articles to Republic Report, registered as a user on November 23rd, 2011. A day after the forum was created. This suggests a ‘cheap publicity’ stunt.
