deesquarediddy: I'm very grateful bro, really appreciate your advice. The major problem i have is failure to secure an entry level position immediately after NYSC, i ventured into personal business (IT related) and its 4 years after NYSC now without any engineering experience. Not that i'm not doing well with my biz but i'm still passionate about working with my mech. engr certificate. Most of the entry level positions that are advertised these days screen me out agewise. My biz has reached a stage i can hand it over to someone to manage for me but i'm really finding it hard to secure an engineering job.
Still, i appreciate your contribution...really finding it hard to secure an opportunity in manufacturing industries(not necessarily O & G) without any related experience. outside drilling course, i also came accross a school in India(Technocrat Automation). They train on industrial/process automation : http://www.technocratautomation.net/
The main reason i'm considering professional training is due to the fact that i lack the needed experience and i think the training will give me an edge. The question is, is it really worth it?
I will welcome other people's advice. My two cent Its much advisable you acquire more skills than certification (i.e wielding) with your mechanical degree your far better off. Most oil servicing coys employs based on skills, that's why even an ssce holder with proper skills gets jobs . There lots of schools in india,on professional wielding (agro, arc, submerge ,etc) .With that you just need little or no help securing a job. Point: Just acquire a skill, and be good at it,then your good to go. |

beryour: Okay, BOSIET basically stands for Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Escape Training. Its extremely significant in the O&G industry especially in Offshore sector. Again it is accepted worldwide and not limited in anyway at all. EBS is a part of the training depending on the scheduled tasks. Normally companies send their staffs for the training but some other companies prefer hiring personnel who already have it handy and this leaves applicants with no option than going for the training individually. In this case, lots of people go for the HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) as it is more affordable compared to the BOSIET. Thank you, sir. Quite interesting. |

Career › Re: Offshore Oil Worker,lets Meet Here by superfavour(m): 9:36pm On Oct 27, 2014 |
beryour: Firstly, you need to get the basics....several companies are no longer interested in training pple except those still in collaboration with NNPC such as MPN. Instrumentation is a very weird career, thats the first thing you must knw, try get in to a basic training first then you can get yourself a job in a manufacturing/process company then prolly progress into O&G.
Feel free to ask more question...or discuss @beryour Like bosiet.. |

beryour: You need to ask questions properly, did they invite you to come and take the test? (as real companies will do) or they want you to go get the test result elsewhere...anyway ask them for the acceptable medical houses as they might reject some clinics...the test is just about sight, sound, weight+height, x-rays, stool and urine test..etc....its basically to confirm your fitness to work offshores. The price depends on the clinic. Thanks beryour, I have just done the " fitness test" and the yellow card also |
