Nairaland / General / Afrinvest Executives Reengineering Nigeria’s Economy by supomi: 9:32pm On Jun 28, 2016
Afrinvest Executives Reengineering Nigeria’s Economy

Leading wealth advisory firm, Afrinvest, has established itself as a repository of top quality executives and leaders who would play a critical role not only in driving the growth of businesses but also improving public sector efficiency and economic recovery. The appointment of 30-year old Mark Okoye, a former Associate at the firm, as Commissioner for Economic Planning & Budget Development in Anambra State is further confirmation of that fact.

Okoye follows in the footsteps of the firm’s Founder, Godwin Obaseki, who served as the pioneer Chairman of the Edo State Economy and Strategy Team (now flagbearer for the APC in the Edo State Governorship elections 2016), as well as the current Managing Director of the company, Ike Chioke, who is a serving member of the Enugu State Economic Advisory Committee and Director-General of Oganiru Enugu State Investment Summit.

Prior to his recent appointment, Okoye had served as Executive Director, Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, and was also the Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Economic Planning and Budget. He studied finance at the George Washington University, USA, and has attended several executive courses and programs at various institutions including the Harvard Kennedy School and Cambridge, UK.
Okoye is one of several young and brilliant minds associated with Afrinvest. Earlier in February, the firm announced the appointment of two young directors to its board, and has its key subsidiaries and functions managed by equally grounded young executives – a testament to the firm’s strong belief in the ability of Nigerian youths to engender meaningful socio-economic development.
Afrinvest (West Africa) Limited is a wealth advisory firm involved in investment banking, securities trading, asset management and investment research with a focus on West Africa.

Nairaland / General / President Buhari, Business Community Proffer Ways To Woo Investors At KEIS by supomi: 12:06am On May 17, 2016
President Buhari, business community proffer ways to woo investors at KEIS

President Muhammadu Buhari joined a team of investors and potentials in Katsina to woo investors into the state while assuring that Federal government will work closely with private sector in a bid to advance the course of growth and development of the country.

The president made this known on May 10, 2016 when he declared the Katsina State Economic and Investment Summit open. He enjoined the private sector to be the driving force and largest investor in redirecting the nation’s path to industrialization and economic growth.

According to the president, special incentives like the provision of tax holidays and infrastructure must be provided to stimulate the preparedness of the private sector towards investing in and repositioning the country for sustainable growth and development.

He said, “I still remain committed to my campaign pledges to bring all resources to end poverty and corruption as well as enhancing investment opportunities in our country and creating jobs. I hold myself to my campaign promises,” he said.

He urged Katsina state government to be mindful of environmental damage, saying government must ensure that the environment is safe for the convenience of both the investors and the host community.

Governor Aminu Bello Masari in his address said the summit was aimed at re-framing the economic challenges of the state with a view to reassessing the delivery-mechanisms so as to meet up with demands and aspirations of the citizenry.

“We are humble enough to realize that we could not do it all by ourselves, no matter how hard we try. Looking from within only identifies, clarifies and simplifies our challenges; not necessarily meet them. We realized that we can only go so far alone; and no more. That is why we called on investing community, local and global to join us in this enormous but highly rewarding undertaking.”
One of the Speakers and Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote insisted that the government of the state should create a conducive business environment and provide infrastructure for entrepreneurs, stating that with that in place, government need not shop for investors as they will come in their droves.

One of the largest investors in Katsina and part sponsors of KEIS, Dana Group, also highlighted the advantages of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) stating that it will serve as a win-win for both investors and community, emphasizing that Dana Steel’s CSR initiative in Katsina is worthy of emulation by potential investors.

Group Managing Director/CEO Dana Group, Mr. Jacky Hathiramani, in an interview with newsmen in Katsina, said that the company has some key CSR programs it uses to touch the lives of its host community with the free maintenance and repairs it carries out for Katsina State Water Board at Dana Steel's facility located in the heart of Katsina State.

He also said that the Dana Steel Housing Estate currently has a school for the indigent in the state where payment of the very minimal tuition fee doesn't really matter. The most important thing is for the students to attend classes’’

Commenting further, Mr Jacky said, ‘’our Bore hole projects in Katsina and across the country are just a few tips for potential investors who may want to tow the line of Dana Steel and tap into the investment potentials and opportunities available in the state’’

Dana Steel situated in the heart of Katsina; is the only producer of hard drawn and annealed wire product in Nigeria. Birthed in 2005 in line with Government's privatization initiative, Dana Steel has over 450 workers in its employ with a capacity to employ 1,000 workers directly and 25,000 indirectly.

http://thenewsnigeria.com.ng/2016/04/arik-air-aero-air-peace-lead-in-delayed-flights-ncaa/

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said domestic airlines operating in the country recorded 8,478 cases of delayed flights in first quarter of 2016.

This is contained in a document issued by the NCAA’s Consumer Protection Department, which was obtained on Monday by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

The document said a total number of 15,434 flights were operated by eight domestic airlines during the period under review, while 281 flights were cancelled.

It said the airlines in operation were Aero Contractors, Arik Air, Air Peace, Azman Air, Dana Air, First Nation, Med-View and Overland.

Arik, which operated 4,926 flights, topped the chart of delayed and cancelled flights with 2,801 and 99, respectively.

This was closely followed by Aero Contractors, which recorded 1,762 delayed flights and 94 cancellations, out of its 2,823 flight operations.

Air Peace operated 2,686 flights with 1,175 incidences of delayed flights and four cancellations.

However, Arik Air, in a statement by its Communications Manager, Mr Ola Adebanji, attributed the delays and cancellations to the lingering scarcity of aviation fuel.

“With over a hundred flights daily, this limited supply of aviation fuel has resulted, regrettably, into flight delays and sometimes outright cancellations.

“We appeal to our valued passengers to bear with us at this time, even as we remain committed to providing safe and comfortable flight experience,’’ the statement said.

It also apologised to the airline’s passengers for the inconvenience they might have suffered due to the fuel shortage.

Nairaland / General / Enugu Plans Investment Summit To Boost State’s Economy by supomi: 10:42pm On Mar 06, 2016
Enugu, March 4, 2016 - In a bid to re-engineer the economy of Enugu State towards a better future for its citizens, the Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi-led Government is set to host the maiden Enugu State Investment Summit with the theme “Beyond Oil: Fostering Inclusive Economic Growth and Sustainable Development” from April 12 – 14, 2016 at the Michael Okpara Square, Independence Layout, Enugu.

Christened ‘Oganiru’ meaning ‘progress’, the three-day summit will bring together local and international business leaders and investors, bankers, financiers, the diplomatic community and the academia to explore Enugu’s rich potential – and, indeed, the potential of the entire South-East region - across various sectors including agriculture, solid minerals, trade and tourism. The summit will also showcase how Enugu State intends to partner with the private sector to leverage the state’s competitive advantage for inclusive growth and development.

According to Ike Chioke, Director General of Oganiru, “Now more than ever before, with the decrease in federal allocation to states due to dwindling oil revenue, there is a paramount need for government to look to alternative revenue sources that would ensure sustainable economic growth. Oganiru seeks to highlight Enugu’s prospects as a business destination while exploring the state’s potential in a wide range of industries.”

“Key outcomes of the summit will include opportunities for joint venture or outright acquisition through public-private-partnership, privatization and commercialization of state-owned enterprises including Hotel Presidential, Nike Lake Resort, Ada Rice, Sunrise Flour Mills, and many more. There will also be opportunities to boost trade and commerce in the region through co-investment in a Free Trade Zone,” Chioke disclosed.

The Investment Summit is an initiative of the Enugu State Economic Advisory Committee, which was set up by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to advise and guide the state on the best economic policies that would help to engender sustainable economic growth. The Ugwuanyi administration has mandated a 4-point agenda for development of the state including employment generation, social services & good governance, rural development and security & justice.

Nairaland / General / Dana Air's In-flight Service On Cloud 9 by supomi: 10:31am On Feb 16, 2016
In truth, talking about aviation in general; with all the hard stories that takes place around the industry people simply forget the fun, the relationships, the beauty of air travel in general that can be shared mid-air.

Many a time, that critical element that gives aviation its general air of superiority among other transport systems, is forgotten and so also are those that make the experience worthwhile with warm smiles welcoming you on-board and a ‘sad- to- see- you- go’ smile as you depart.

In-flight is one of the major mystique around the air travel and so different airlines tend to design, define and redefine what they want to do to make the passenger comfortable and yearning to come back for more.

Comfort and Crew was able to catch up with the Head of Cabin Crew of Dana Air and he explained to us how they do their best in making passengers the king from the minute they step on-board a flight till the last person disembarks.

Dana Air's In-flight service
Dana Air’s In-flight service
Explaining various scenarios, it is a given that actually handling people is not as easy as one looks at it and being professional and loving at what you do makes everything worthwhile and as everyone can attest, it is the cockpit crew’s job to fly you from point A to Point B safely but it is the Cabin Crew’s job to ensure that you have a pleasant experience getting from one point to the other.

Welcoming: As the crew OF Dana welcomes you into the aircraft with those broad smiles and the sound of Michael Buble’s remix to Frank Sinatra’s original ‘Come Fly with Me’ the atmosphere has already been set as said crew ushers each passengers to their seats.

Engagement: Once the flight takes off and the captain announces the altitude, the Dana Crew with a beautiful, reassuring smile and ‘happy- to- help’ attitude, walks through the cabin to see if any passenger is having any issue and see ways to solve it as fast as possible,so the passenger can relax and enjoy our award winning in-flight service” said Udo.

Uncomfortable/Scared : There are instances where the passenger he/ she is a first time flyer, is he/she scared of heights or has had some not too pleasant experience before? An approachable and friendly disposition would make it easier for the passenger to converse. Conversing in turn would help calm the guest and take his/her mind of the supposed problem.

Unwell – Also according to the airline, depending on the nature of the ailment the crew reassure the guest and help them understand that the crew is adequately trained to handle and care for guest who might have taken ill in-flight by providing first aid treatment and care. The crew is always poised to spring to action if the situation calls for it.

Newspapers and magazines are provided to help such guest relax better. The crew periodically checks on such guest to see how they are doing and continuously reassures them. It might also require closing the window blinds, reclining the seats, adjusting the air vents, offering ear plugs depending on the nature of the situation…

According to the airline Head of Crew, Innocent Udoh,” We at Dana Air consistently deliver an outstanding standard of customer service and maintain this standard throughout the flight. This, we achieve by always being visible in the cabin to answer any question from our guests.”

Handling passengers during turbulence:

Now this is not an easy task but it is worthy of note that turbulence is a disturbance in the smooth flow of air which can be caused by adverse weather, certain types of cloud formation or by passage of a large aircraft through the air. It can occur from take-off stage through to the approach and landing and can vary from a slight buffering to violent changes in altitude and airspeed.

During turbulence, the flight crew makes announcement giving detailed explanation of the situation to guests, requesting guests to return to their seats and then switches on the fasten seat-belt signs.

“Cabin crew walk around the cabin to check on the guest, ensuring compliance with fasten seatbelt sign. With wide, genuine and reassuring smiles we give explanation to the guest so that they understand what is really happening and that it is nothing serious but that it would pass. We also explain that the flight crew are very experienced and committed to the safety and comfort of our guests and answer their questions.“

Periodic and reassuring announcements are made to guests depending on the duration of the turbulence and we keep the smiles to also help our passengers relax better.

“We treat everyone as an individual, which includes displaying respect for customers from every walk of life. We believe Team work and good communication are essential to a happy crew which equals happy customers who want to come back and fly time and time again with us. We are enthusiastic about what we do and we combine our service on-board with a good sense of self-presentation. “

“Our Cabin Crew encounter different situations whilst working on board the aircraft and are excellent team players with the ability to work on their own initiative using quick thinking and organizational skills,”Udo said.

It’s one thing to do a job simply because you are paid to but it is another thing to be committed and do that job out of passion born from desire itself to do the job.

The cabin crew takes care of you from the start of a flight to finish, so when next you walk by any crew on your way out of an aircraft accord them the same gesture of the warm smile they give to you because as you and I know they truly deserve it.
