The UK makes a lot of money via taxation. But almost every aspect of life of the citizens is subsidized. Transportation is available and almost free. Government has accurate figures of those who do not have a job and they pay them welfare support packages.
There is constant electricity enabling economic activities.
What they won't tell you is that even petrol is subsidized as well. Government provides CNG and Hydrogen powered buses for transportation. Food is subsidized and relatively cheaper.
There is no doubt that someone will say Nigeria has to start from someone but you don't heat up a cold body with rapid heat rise otherwise it will suffer thermal breakdown or cracks. President Tinubu has removed subsidy on petrol and wants citizens to pay him for buying petrol.
Those who do not have jobs in Nigeria rely on those who have for support, now Tinubu wants them to also support government with as much as 15% of their incomes.
This is not a joke and requires citizens to speak out for the government to have a rethink. There will be transportation fare hike definitely in January. Cost of production of good and services will also rise and Nigerians who are already in pains will experience more excruciating pains.
There is always a time for government to adjust their policies. This one if not adjusted will affect the system negatively more than the benefits the government envisaged.
