The motive behind fuel subsidy from the onset was a good one but was latter turned to a means of enriching few cabals in the refined PMS importation business. Hence the need to end the subsidy.

There are no developed countries currently running a dual exchange rate system. Some countries (like China) have done it before but was for a short period. There are no long-term benefits of a dual exchange rate system. South Africa only did it for ten years in the past.
