Miss Ahmed supported the federal borrowings, saying it had been in existence before and that the total borrowing was 23 per cent of the GDP as of July. Recall that the federal executive council recently approved another N16.39 trillion loan. Despite the marginal but steady decline in the consumer price index which is a measure of inflation in Nigeria, the cost of food and essential commodities still remains exorbitant for consumers in the largest economy in Africa. According to a new statistics mutually released by the United Nations Development Programme and the National Bureau of Statistics, about 20 percent of fully engaged workforce in the Nigerian labor market lost their jobs due to the covid 19 pandemic. This report was disclosed in a report titled: “The Impact of COVID-19 on Business Enterprises in Nigeria,” by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The research citing interviews with almost 3,000 businesses from both the formal and informal sector across major industries of the economy stated that vast majority of businesses operating in Nigeria suffered due to the pandemic and the subsequent restrictions imposed on businesses to arrest the spread of infections, including lockdowns, restrictions on movement, and other public health measures. The gravity of lay-offs, reductions in hours of operation, and limited access to credit provide insight into its impact on individuals and families whose ability to maintain their livelihoods and generate income were severely curtailed. However, the effects were felt unequally by business enterprises across the country that belonged to different sectors with notable differences between formal and informal enterprises. At the same time, for a small percentage of enterprises, the pandemic bought about some gains. VISIT OUR WEBSITE https://ratecaptain.com/

The exchange rate at the parallel foreign exchange market plunged again on friday 10th September 2021 to close at N545/$1. The tenacious fall of naira in respect to dollar arises from the increased demand for dollar in the forex market accompanied by a drop in supply. The shortage of supply of dollars can be attributed to uncertainties in the business and foreign exchange environment from the banning of BDC'S operators to the eradicating of special intervention from the CBN to BDC'S as well as the shift of major forex supply to banks has all created a discombobulated atmosphere in the market. INTERNATIONAL FOREX NEWS Dollar Hits Two-Week High The dollar strengthened to a two-week high versus a basket of major currencies on Monday as market expectation builds that the Federal Reserve could taper its stimulus sooner rather than later despite a surge in COVID-19 cases. The dollar index rose 0.3% to 92.880 in early European trading hours, its highest level since August 27. It was last up 0.2%. For the full story visit our website http://www.ratecaptain.com/
