This is a story about a guy who had been crushing on a girl for a really long time and couldn’t muster up the courage to let her know how he felt. Bode met Folake in the University and immediately fell in love with her. She also seemed to enjoy his company greatly. They became very good friends and were always seen together. Folake liked Bode and on several occasions created avenues for him to let her know how he felt. But Bode seemed blind to the avenues and Folake concluded that he liked her as a friend and nothing more. Following their graduation from University and completion of Youth Service, Bode invited Folake to visit him at his residence. Folake not being too keen on visiting since he had rebuffed her advances failed to turn up on the agreed date. Instead she visited the following day and met Bode’s absence. However Mayokun Bode’s brother entertained her and she left Bode’s residence in a cheerful mood. To make it up to Bode, Folake agreed to visit him at his office during the week. On her arrival Bode was so delighted that he took her round the office introducing her to everyone as his best friend. During the introductions, Bode had to leave Folake in his Boss’s office for a some minutes to attend to a client who had walked in without an appointment. Unknown to Bode, his Boss, Kunle had exchanged numbers with Folake. Bode was subsequently posted outside the State to fill a temporary auditing position and as such did not see Folake for 6 months. During the 6 months, they communicated via telephone but at no time did Bode fail to tell her how he felt about her. Instead he kept promising her that once he was back in town they would sit and have a serious discussion. Folake too hinted that she had something to share with Bode and was anxiously expecting his return. Bode was ecstatic for he believed that Folake intended to communicate her feelings for him. Bode got back to Lagos on a Friday and couldn’t wait for the next day before visiting Folake. The time had finally come to tell Folake how he felt about her and he was too excited to wait one more day. He got to Folake’s house and met the door slightly ajar. Walking into the living room he met in close embrace with a male form. Sensing a presence Folake and her companion glanced towards the door, seeing that it was Bode Folake detangled herself and ran towards Bode excitedly. See, see Bode. He proposed just now and i said yes she screamed while showing off a glowing engagement ring on her left hand. Bode felt like a man who had just been hit by a trailer after being duped by a conman. His legs became unsteady and not being able to help himself he sat down. Am so happy for you Bode muttered. He looked at Folake’s companion, willing himself to pass across a message, but couldn’t hold the stare so he just repeated his felicitations and excused himself. That night, lying down on his bed alone and for the first time in his adult life, Bode shed tears. Moral of the story: Do not be afraid to pursue the one your heart desires. Let her know how you feel without beating around the bush. Be clear and concise about the communication of intent otherwise someone else may beat you to it! But this is after you have ascertained that he or she is not of the karashika lineage… lol Question: who do you think was Folake’s companion? Bode’s brother or Bode’s boss?
