Is this person serious? What made the clergy enemies of the truth and what the f88k is political church? You need to revise the history of christianity and you'll find out that the church dominated everyone's life during that period and nailing people to the stake and burning them alive were tools the church used to eliminate dissent and heresy. They were not the victims as you've suggested

@phxc

like u highlighted he called the same clergy u talking about enemies of truth, didnt hear him say they were victims, thought he was saying selfishly they allowed themselves to be used by political powers seeking to dominate and sought the use of the church in perpetuating their evil, being fully aware of the penchant masses have always had for reveling in religious slavery

calm consideration of the responses made as well as comparing the responses with you original questions will help you realise if your questions are being answered or not; will also tell if we can make progress in this discussion. I sincerely believe you are looking for answers hence my directing these comments at you. I am here to show that there are answers and that they can be provided. if you have other questions kindly put them across and the bible will answer them for u.
u can put ur distate for religion aside while we discuss, cos u wont find me defending it.this will help us remove any labels and focus on a pointed and illuminating conversation

ok harakiri,

what would u expect from the bible if it indeed came from the creator of the universe?

Well for one thing it would have to be accessible and available to the people it was written for; hence my first point. The bible against all odds has become available to most of the human population and in tongues they mostly understand. To cite the bloody spread of religion as an argument against the availability of the bible makes me wonder if you got my point.

secondly, u say practical wisdom is found in our folklore. To a minimal degree yes, but how does that disprove the proof that a book from God would contain practical wisdom to aid its readers lead better lives? The bible does not claim to be the sole source of any kind of wisdom, it does however claim to be the source of the highest form, divine wisdom. and why? Because it does not cater to any era or age ot generation but is timeless. To the extent that even in so called secular societies, non-religious books, magazines and literature still allude to biblical wisdom and tenets in providing counsel, advice and motivation in different aspects of life , family, health, work life etc.

thirdly u wanted recipes for cures or preventive measures for diseases in the bible? I believe you must have come across the laws God gave the nation of Israel. Let me refresh your memory. Written about 1500 B.C.E., the Mosaic Law (found in the first five books of the Bible) contained sound laws regarding quarantining of the sick (Lev 13. 1-5), treatment of dead bodies, (Numbers 19.1-13), and disposal of waste (Deuteronomy 23.13,14). All these served to keep the nation from preventable diseases. Modern science has since verified these measures as very effective, esp under the conditions the nation dwelt then. Further, as deltagal earlier pointed out, the bible has made scientifically accurate statements way ahead of their time. E.g, some 3,500 years ago, the Bible stated that the earth is hanging “upon nothing” (Job 26.7). In the eighth century B.C.E., Isaiah clearly referred to “the circle or, sphere of the earth.” (Isaiah 40.22). A spherical earth held in empty space without any visible or physical means of support was alien to the times in which the writer lived esp since many postulated it was flat. Copernicus and Galileo published scientific works that proved this only in the 15th and 16th centuries and this amid controversy. Modern science since proved them right. Of course, the Bible isn’t a science textbook, but it has proved remarkably accurate in allusions to future scientific discoveries. That you would expect of a book that comes from the creator of nthe earth. U would believe he should know the shape and orientation of an earth he made don’t u think?

Ur reference to belief in biblical miracles as gullible compares to a man(an intelligent man I must add) who lived 800 years ago shaking his head in disbelief to a description of the airplane, the telephone, television and the internet. He would see them in the same light u see those miracles don’t u think? But the bible, unafraid of so-called modern skepticism, would tell of those events as if they happened only because…it must have come from a God whose capabilities are not limited by yet to be discovered feats in science

Ethnic genocides in the bible? U accuse God of perpetuating genocide because he judged nations as guilty of gross practices, gave them time to repent and them destroyed them when they didn’t? He also spared those who put faith in him, remember e.g. certain ones among the Egyptians, the Gibeonites, Nineveh etc. But more importantly are u arguing against divine justice because u don’t understand the standards by which they applied? In all large corporate and government institutions, information is usually released on a need to know basis. In the highest reaches of power, information is classified, tagged government secrets: executive levels both in governments and on company management boards have access to information which determines policy; this sort of information is not passed on to all and sundry. Yet all and sundry whether in a country or secular organisation go along with it. You can respectfully voice a contrary opinion to policy hoping your opinion would be considered, but u cannot limit ur freedoms by openly and blatantly flouting it. God did not do that, he openly has outlined his standards of justice (whether you agree with them or not), has been merciful beyond what most strict adjudicators today would accept and has detailed unpleasant consequences that befell those in the past as a lesson for the future. You would also expect that from a book coming from man’s creator.

Yes the bible identifies the source of evil as a guide to an understanding as to why it exists. It is plain and sinple. Perhaps a little too simple for those who would rather prefer complex theories about why people make choices that pit them against societies they live and benefit from. The bible outlines standards of morality that form the basis of moral and even modern criminal law. In almost every society and country today variations of these laws still exist and always will. WHY? Because irrespective of advances in knowledge, in science and technology, ur basic morality remains the same. Even when we didn’t have widespread civilization, communities in different parts of the world, unknown to each other adhered to similar basic moral laws. Many who would prefer a world where no one is accountable to any law except their own distance themselves and ridicule all such existing laws, whether moral or secular. So we have people even in secular societies arguing against or for homosexuality unaffected by religious opinion. AS FOR BLAMING THE DEVIL, the bible identifies the source of evil while showing humans to be creatures of freewill, able to make choices and therefore accountable for their actions. Don’t confuse the existence of a source of evil as an reason for its spread. A stream, harakiri can be a source of water in a village but u still have to go fetch it.

I AM CONFIDENT THAT UR Qs stem from a desire to understand and not just to destructively criticize, that ur search is truly for answers and not for points on which to endlessly debate. I do not preach blind acceptance and neither does the bible, but u are welcome to personally examine its truth for yourself, and apply your power of reason to your search.

I suggest u take on the attitude of a learner, not that of a debater and learn from this simple scripture 1 Cor. 3:18-20 Let no one be seducing himself: If anyone among YOU thinks he is wise in this system of things, let him become a fool, that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; for it is written: “He catches the wise in their own cunning.” 20 And again: “Jehovah knows that the reasonings of the wise men are futile.

Ur next question, pls

I am alittle surprised that u would heatedly attack d bible on d strength of christendoms dark pastm that you would compare biblical wisdom to folk lore and would describle valid lines of reasoning as false assumptions.

I urge u to listen carefully to what I outlined as proof and I say proff because that's what you asked for. I would however urge that while you express your opinions you can skip ridicule, name calling and attacking my person. It really doesn't add to d efficacy of your argument. Thought we agreed to be broadminded, besides u weren't too happy when deltagal referred to ur approach as un reasonable, remember?

So pls listen to why my proof is indeed proof

i did not say your manner of approach. that might sound judgmental. i said that the use of the word unreasonable by deltagal was not referring to you as a person, rather to the approach you suggested i.e proffering proof without referring to the bible. tu comrehend? I also did not state I TOO think its  unreasonable. Just clarified her statement so you dont feel offended by what SHE DID NOT SAY.

i dont think your question is complex, and i dont see anyone pressed to the wall here. I think its a simple and valid question. Please ponder the answer i posted above (remember to be broadminded, like we should all be in the pursuit of knowledge), while you post your next question.

it is d most widely distributed and translated book in all history
, over 90% percent of d human population can access it, can be read it in a tongue they understand
, contains practical wisdom that has stood the test of time and still remains the basis for many wise sayings, national laws, and social norms in both developed and other societies till date
, has been attested to at the highest levels of scientific knowledge(even evolutionists are having a hard time with their professional peers)
, has suffered more attacks, abuse, murder and assassination attempts, misinterpretation, cynicism and bias than any other piece of literature still in existence
, answers in depth the 5 critical Qs of life - who am i, where am i from, where am i going?, whats my potential?, whats my purpose?
, truly describes the supernatural, the spiritual, the physical, even the spiritistic
, clearly shows the source of evil, its nature and its end, even explains why u have dis persistent doubts harakiri
, explains clearly why your pastor bought d jet and why his ff defend him,
, clearly and unambiguously explains the true nature of God, his personality his ways and all u need to be aware
, shows us the way to the highest standard of life if only we would humbly accept its message and listen
, has no issues with your thought provoking questions but asks u this question, would you recognise truth if u saw it?
, and truly does not need to prove its authenticity to u harakiri, just wishes that you will open your heart to the possibility that your questions can be answered, because there are answers and i earnestly hope u will allow yourself to be shown them

hope u read the above
or they just dont qualify as proof to you? Would you disregard all proof and insist that there are no answers simply because there just must not be, and for what reason?

@Deltagal. . . My question was very simple and required a simple answer but you replied in the predictable manner that i thought you would by beating about the bush and touching issues unrelated to the question. Its so predictable 4 ppl to react the way you've done and is sad. You even said my question was "unreasonable" and i wonder if u really thought out your reply b4 typing. People have faith and belief in unproven stories the "white man" brought to our contingent and yet. . . Its me thats "unreasonable" 4 asking thought provoking questions. Defending christianity with the bible is as ridiculous as defending christmas with santa claus. I will enlighten u more on the torah and other scrolls when i log in via laptop(i am using my phone). For someone who intends 2 have a matured and "un-biased" discourse, you certainly dont fit the profile. Instead of honorably admitting that the question is beyond you, u decided 2 take the cheap route by labelling me as "unreasonable". Nice.

@harakiri coolu temper. she didnt say u were unreasonable. she was addressing the approach u suggested.
the bible claims to be the word of God not "cooked up bedtime tales"because, among other things

Na wa o. Abeg make una easy on d emotional responses to this thread. All against, pls take it easy on the rest. The man has convinced them he is genuine. Dont think its easy for them to just turn away from d good Bishop and accept Christ(who was a little too simple for them) just like dat. However like someone said, why dont u go to the Bible for counsel on Christianity issues. Start with what could cause spiritual blindness:  2 Thessalonians 2.9,10,11,12-

But the lawless one’s presence is according to the operation of Satan with every powerful work and lying signs and portents 10 and with every unrighteous deception for those who are perishing, as a retribution because they did not accept the love of the truth that they might be saved. 11 So that is why God lets an operation of error go to them, that they may get to believing the lie, 12 in order that they all may be judged because they did not believe the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness.

They need help, dont u think?

Success at Interviews

Questions to have thought about prior to interview stage

What do you know about the position?

What department/ group is it in?
Who will you be working for?
What does the position entail/ what duties are involved?
What skills are needed?
What are the main objectives of this role?
Who will be your customers? What do they need?

Why are you interested?

Can you utilise your skills?
Do they offer the career progression you desire?
Do they offer a team environment?
Can you get fully involved/ take on responsibility?

Why do you think you could do the job?

Do you have the correct typing speed?
Do you have the correct computer packages?
Do you have previous experience?
Have you got the right attitude/ are you enthusiastic enough?

What qualities can you bring to the role?

Good examples of characteristics:- Well organised, team player, works well to deadlines, can perform under pressure, enjoy a challenge, highly motivated, patient, flexible attitude, confident, enthusiastic, hardworking, good communicator!
Good examples of skills: Advanced on PowerPoint/ Word/ Excel etc. A strong background in maintaining databases. Have supported large teams of up to 30 people. Has experience of undertaking project work.
Try to think of three qualities that relate to the role/ company and ALWAYS think of examples of where/ when you have used these skills – i.e. In my current role, it is essential that I produce the weekly report by Friday afternoon, therefore, I am used to working to strict deadlines.

What do you know about the company?

How long has it been established?
How many employees does it have?
Is the company expanding?
Who are the company’s competitors?
What does the company do/ what is its principal business activity?
What is the company’s mission statement?

Good questions to ask at the interview

What type of person would best fit the role?
Why has the vacancy arisen?
Is the company expanding?
Is there room for promotion/ progression?
What type of person would fit into your organisation/ department?
Who else would I be working for/ with?
How many people are in the department?
What will my typical day entail?
What responsibilities would I have?
Is there the opportunity to use my initiative?

Popular questions asked at interview

Tell me about yourself.
Ask the interviewer what they would like you to cover. Educational achievements?
Software experience?

What are your strengths?
Again, think of your three main skills and ALWAYS give examples of where/ when you
have used them.

What are your weaknesses?
Study the job specification and company profile and decide on a weakness that is not essential to the role/ company. Good examples:
The job spec states that there will be an occasional amount of audio typing. Your response: Having read the job specification, I understand that I will undertake an amount of audio typing. I haven’t used audio on a regular basis but I am a quick learner and more than happy to develop this skill.
You will be working for a team of twenty people. Your response: I’ve not actually worked for a team as large as this but I am confident that I have the right organisational skills to make a success of this role.
The company is a management consultancy. Your response: I haven’t actually worked for a management consultancy before but I am confident that I can make a success of this role as I have good experience within customer-focussed roles and strong communication skills at all levels.

You are therefore letting the client know that you have read and understood the requirements of the company/ role, have related your experience to these requirements, have the confidence and ability to be successful and are more than willing to ‘make a go of it’! The client will forget there was ever a weakness in the first place!

What do you know about the job?
Relay to the client that you understand what will be involved in a typical day to include
software used, who you will be supporting, what probable deadlines you will have to
meet, along with the characteristics you will need (calm under pressure etc.).

Why are you interested in this position?
Good examples:
Will be able to fully utilise my software experience.
Working for a larger organisation/ team.
Taking on more responsibility.
A busier, more involved role.
Chances to use ones own initiative.

Why are you leaving your current position?
Because you want to secure the above opportunities.

How do you feel about working overtime?
State that you’re committed to completing the task in hand and therefore understand that
this cannot always be done within standard office hours. Give examples of where you
have willingly undertaken overtime in the past.

If I were to approach your boss/ colleague, what would s/he say about you?
Good examples:
Easy to get along with.
Willing to muck in.
Reliable.
Cheerful to be around.
Gets the job done!

What would you be most remembered for in your last job?
Use any of the above examples or relay a significant achievement during your time with
the company.
I secured a contract worth £x, which enabled a new support team to be established.

What special achievements have you had in your current role?
Have you set up new systems, developed a more efficient filing system, trained a new
employee or successfully completed training courses? Try and relate your answers to the
role that you are applying for.

What special achievements did you obtain in school/outside work? How have these helped you in a working environment?
Were you a successful member of an organisation (Queens Scout/ Army Cadet)? What
sporting achievements have you had? Charity/ volunteer involvement? Evening classes?

Why should we employ you?
Another way of asking for your strengths/ qualities.

Give me ten words that best describe your personality?
You should know these by now!

Where do you see yourself in five year’s time? What are your aims for the future?
As before, more responsibility . . . . . . . . . . etc.

What do you know about the company?
Again, you should research this before the interview.

Why do you want to join this company?
Are they progressive, forward-thinking, expanding?

If you turned the clock back, what would you do differently in your career?
Try and be positive about what you have achieved so far. Have a purpose/ reason for why
you have done things.

What made you choose those particular GCSE/ A Level/ Degree subjects?

Why did you decide not to go into further education?
Were you ready to tackle the working environment? Keen to step onto the career ladder?
Able to secure an opportunity that lead to in-house study?

What is the hardest thing that someone has asked you to do?
Have you worked alone on a big project? Organised a big event from scratch? Stood in
for a more senior member of staff? Trained a new employee? Met with clients alone?

What is the biggest decision you have made?
To return to university? To relocate for a new job? To move to a new company?

What challenges you? What motivates you?
Responsibility? Opportunity to use own initiative? Busy, hectic environment? Own
projects? Working to deadlines? Achieving targets?

What type of people do you work best with?

What book/ newspaper are you reading at the moment and why?

What do you have to have in the office to operate effectively? What couldn’t you operate without in the office? What do you expect from your employers? What do you expect to achieve within this role? What training would you expect?

Situational Questions

What would you do if ……….?

How would you react if ……….?

Give an example of where you have experienced a stressful situation in the workplace.
How did you handle that stress/ what steps did you take to resolve the situation? How
could you minimise this risk for the future? What did you learn from this experience?

Give an example of when you have had to perform within strict deadlines? How did you
perform? What did you learn from this experience?

You are in the office on your own. There is nobody to contact and the computer system crashes. Clients are urgently waiting for a proposal. What do you do?

NOTE: You must think about the type of situations they may ask you about. It would normally be something relevant to the position:-
Dealing with managerial staff.
Dealing with subordinates.
Handling customer queries or complaints.
A situation where you need to utilise your communication skills and common sense.

Dressing for interview

Please take into consideration the following points when dressing for interview:-

Wear a dark business suit - black, grey or navy
Skirt suits are preferable
An ironed, business shirt is preferable to a Lycra top!
Do not have bare legs - wear tights or stockings
Wear clean, polished, dark coloured corporate looking shoes
Keep jewellery to a minimum - less is more!
Keep make up on the conservative side
Chewing gum is a definite no-no!
Make sure that your mobile phone is switched off during your interview

Remember, the average interview lasts between 30 minutes to 1 hour – not very long in the realm of life! Why miss out on that new job that will offer you better prospects/ more money/ more responsibility due to nerves! As long as you’ve prepared for your interview, you should concentrate on ‘selling’ yourself! Ask yourself, ‘Why should they recruit me?’ If you don’t know, then you haven’t prepared yourself properly! Go get that job!

Always arrive ten minutes early for an interview.
Always allow yourself enough time for the interview - if you are rushed and stressed, your best attributes will not be on show!
Call your consultant as soon as the interview has finished - she will want feedback to give to the client.

Reasons why candidates are most rejected for jobs:

They did not show enthusiasm
They did not understand the job fully
They did not know enough about the company
They did not give examples of when they had worked under pressure or how they prioritised their time
They were not consistent enough in their answers (this usually happens when two interviews have taken place and the candidate has attended two separate interviews)
The candidate came across very well at first interview but not as well on their second meeting (a common misconception when the candidate feels that the job is theirs after the first interview)
The candidate was too nervous
Presentation was not adequate
Family / Re: His Father Is Cheating On His Mum, What Should He Do? by Swordsman: 9:03pm On Nov 13, 2007
chii, I am hoping your friend communicated his problems to you and asked your advice, and that you didnt get all your information from hearsay and observation.

If he asked your advice, then its ok for him as first son(if he is first son) to try to fix what has become a family issue since all in the family are definitely affected by his father's ways. I really dont think confronting his mom is a good idea, she most probably knows even if she doesnt admit it. If the family cannot take the shame anymore then it is in no way disrespect if he calmly and like a man, chooses the right moment to talk to his dad about the issue. Tell not not to take a moral high ground as if his father has shamed the family, although he has. The man is his father anyways, rather he should make his father see how his behavior is affecting the family HE CLAIMS TO LOVE, and if it is not love that makes him care and provide for his family but a sense of pride and responsibility, let him make his father see how his behavior is undermining that family pride and dignity. Whatever his father gets his sense of importance from, he should diplomatically use that to let him see how his actions belie his beliefs. However emotional your friend is about the issue, his father will probably get erratic but let him be sure to put his feelings aside and try to drive the point home in the shortest possible time during the discussion. His father no matter his response, will, at a later time remember the things his son told him, and most importantly the manner in whch he spoke, and that might make him pause to think.

Secondly your friend should pray about the issue personally, and then with all members of the family who know about it, hoping their father is not under some sort of curse.

If all avenues have been exhausted, he can talk to his uncle.

A father has no rights anywhere to hold his family to ransom with his behavior, and if he still does not change, they must find a way to slowly remove themselves from under the shadow of that cruel and immoral 'provider'. And while he is still their father, they must empower their mother to do what is right.

While the mother may not be a strongwilled woman, she must also summon the strength and will to protect her family if the father is neglecting his moral responsibilities. She is a wife, a helper and a complement not a subservient slave.
Family / Re: Under Pressure To Marry by Swordsman: 8:16pm On Nov 13, 2007
Nadico, I think, If you have close family members around, eg your parents, you could solicit their advice. Then discuss your inlaws concerns with your wife to be. See where she really stands and then both of you make a decision, taking into secondary consideration what her parents want. Communicate your decision diplomatically and tacfully to them. Parents can be appeased even without doing what they necessarily want by making them feel their input is respected. But remember YOU ARE THE HEAD OF YOUR FAMILY TO BE, and you must start acting like one.

I am curious though, how come you are 30 now when your profile says you were 28 in January?
