PoliticsRe: Soldier At Lagos-Ore Breaks Side Mirror Those Violating Vehicles To Clear Holdup by swuftz: 6:40am On May 30, 2016
incredible. two wrongs doesn't make a right. what the soldier did was wrong. breaking people car side mirror is in itself is an act of lawlessness. tomorrow the same soldier will break the windscreen of every vehicle that blocked their path when they are on their way to somewhere regardless of whether they dive on the right side of the road or not. It is an act hooliganism and should be condemned. Nigeria soldiers are known to terrorise civilians at any given opportunity. is breaking of side mirror the only effective way to maintain law and order on the road?
PoliticsThe Man Is Dead In Us by swuftz(op): 3:24pm On May 18, 2016
Penultimate Monday when the minister of state for petroleum, gave the press conference announcing the deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector nobody was surprised..it was long in coming. But when he announced the new regime of premium motor spirit pricing from 86 naira to 145 naira many were shocked including me. What shocked me most was not the actual increment which was audacious to say the least but the brazen manner with which he not only announced it but said it took effect from the very day of the announcement. It was a punch below the jaw and as expected sent many Nigerians reeling and falling to the ground.

Never in the history of Nigerian government increment of Petroleum pricing had a government so arrogantly and impunitiously taken the population for granted, never has a government so insensitive to the plight of the common man, never has an elected government so ungrateful to the people as to rub it on their faces as Buhari did through his minister of state.. But it was a crafty political calculations on the part of Buhari administration. It was a coup d'etat with resounding success as the attendant reactions would show.. Whomsoever advised the government to do what was done deserves a medal.
Nigerian people wallowing in abject poverty, and bombarded from left with increase in the prices of food commodity, terrorised from right daily on their farm by Fulani herdsmen in the South East, forced to flee their homes by Boko Haram in the NorthEast, kidnnaping of their sons and daughters in the South West and East.
Battling daily with no Power supply to run their business,, finding it difficult to pay school fees of their children and daily increase in the transportation fare. The Nigeria man is faced with too many wars daily. He doesn't know which one to combat first.
In another clime, the average Nigerian man would have been on the street the very day the new pump price was announced. But not again. Not even the drum beat from the Labour congress could caused him to down tools to come to the street in protest of the hike.
The spirit is not just there. The energy of the Nigeria man has been dissipated from the too many battles he has to face daily. So it was not a surprise therefore that the call to arms by the Nigeria Labour Congress was dead on arrival. Ebi ki wonu koro mi o wo..says Baba sikira. Only a well fed man have the energy to fight.
The Buhari administration has finally nail the coffin of the Nigeria man spirit,he has killed the little trust the common man has in government as defenders of their life. The Nigeria man is left on his own, to fend for himself, provide food and shelter for himself, guard his own house, provide water and electricity by himself, construct roads to his house, provide security for his household. Where then is the power to protest, where is the energy to match on the road, . The Spirit is no longer willing, the flesh cannot even sustain the spirit anymore...., The Spirit of the Nigeria man is dead.

PoliticsRe: FG Investigates AI's Allegations Against Military by swuftz: 4:27pm On Jun 25, 2015
Omooba77:
The Federal Government has commenced an investigation into the accusations of human rights abuses levelled against the Nigerian military by the Amnesty International.

The government, in a statement on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb Bulus Lolo, said due to the magnitude of the allegations, President Muhammadu Buhari had instituted an investigation into the report.

The AI had accused certain retired and serving senior military officers of torture and extra-judicial killings during counter-terror operations against Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.

Lolo said the government was concerned about the safety and rights of all Nigerians.

“Due to the magnitude of the allegations, the President Buhari-led government is looking into the report with a view to establishing the fact of the matter. The government has, therefore, instituted an investigation and assures that there will be no cover-up,” he said.

The permanent secretary however said that the military had undertaken an ongoing investigation into the allegations of wrongdoing by its personnel.

Lolo said the Nigerian military, in line with its training, ensured the highest level of professionalism by its officers in the conduct of its operations. He also noted that the armed forces had earned respect both within and outside the country.

He said the military, in line with the state of emergency imposed on Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states, had some powers, which include the authority to arrest, interrogate and detain any civilian involved in terror activities.

He said, “In Nigeria, as in other regions where terrorists have unleashed their evil acts without a scintilla of respect for morality, extreme measures are sometimes required to contain extremism. It is a well-known fact that Boko Haram respects no laws at all, including sacred religious laws that the group claims to cherish.

“We find it nonetheless very worrisome that Amnesty International has yet to comment on the horrendous, mindless and ruinous activities of Boko Haram. Indeed, the victims of Boko Haram’s despicable activities deserve justice and sympathy.”

Lolo said that the government would ensure that errant military personnel were brought to book and pledged the nation’s unflinching commitment to fighting terrorism in all its forms.

He said the Federal Government would continue to work with its neighbours and its international partners to combat terrorism.

Am always very amazed at our mentality in this our beloved country,or how on earth could someone equate Boko Haram with the Military. By virtue of their name and acts Boko Haram are outlaws and as such cannot be expected to follow any rules , nor ethics of engagement. They are terrorists because they terrorize the citizens innocent or not. But the Military were trained to contained National outlaws both within and outside the borders of our sovereign state. And because they were trained, they are expected to follow civilized and acceptable rules of engagement in dealings with the outlaws. It is in no doubt that the Boko Haram acts despicably against any moral norms or civility but they are not expected to act any less, for to do so will make them seem like common criminals which they are not.

The Nigeria army on the other hand are expected to rise above board and display high sense of civility, decorum and professionalism. That is why they are called the Army, and not BOKO HARAM. The Nigeria army are not expected to react and treat other members of the society or Suspects as Terrorist until proven beyond reasonable doubt, even then there are National and International laid down rules to follow in combat and and outside the theaters of war. Otherwise the amy would be equating itself as the Terrorist they are supposed to combat
.That Boko Haram acts despicably is no justification for the Nigerian Army to act likewise in the effort to Subdued and Conquer them.

( He said, “In Nigeria, as in other regions where terrorists have unleashed their evil acts without a scintilla of respect for morality, extreme measures are sometimes required to contain extremism. It is a well-known fact that Boko Haram respects no laws at all, including sacred religious laws that the group claims to cherish)
This is wrong because it gives the officers the liberty to act with impunity fired by hatred of the loss of lives of their colleagues. You don't fight evil with evil. Boko Haramist are evil but using the same measure and tactics of Boko Haram to engaged them bespoke of the Nigerian Army being evil as well. There should be a place where to draw the lines between evil and good. In a sane and civilized society like ours the Military shouldn't be seen justifying extreme measures in the guise to fight Boko Haram because the fallout will be extreme and catastrophic with untold innocent casualty like is being witnessed in the Amnesty reports.

(“We find it nonetheless very worrisome that Amnesty International has yet to comment on the horrendous, mindless and ruinous activities of Boko Haram. Indeed, the victims of Boko Haram’s despicable activities deserve justice and sympathy.”)

This statement coming from the Military spokesman suggest an admission of guilty as charged by the Nigeria Army. How on earth would you expect Amnesty International to comment on Boko Haram, what effect would their comment or condemnation of of Boko Haram have on the Boko Haram evil acts and escapades. Boko Haram are sociopath, they are terrorist, they are despicable, undesirables, they are outlaws, this is a know fact to every Dick ,Tom and Jerry, even to Boko Haram themselves. Condemning them is like beating a dead horse.Or how on earth would you fill a basket with water.

The Nigeria Military needs to do a clean sweep of their house and punish errant and sociopathic officers among them and rescued the Army from any ignoble acts being committed by their officers. The Nigeria army in the combat field needs to be orientated as to the International rules of engagement and the treatment of enemy combatants and Civilians in their fields of Operations. The world is no a global village where any country or state institutions can operate or sets its own rules in isolation of communities of Nations. Nigeria is a signatory to many International treaties and Laws and cannot act outside those laws.

Painful as it is Boko Haram can kill and maimed at will but the Nigeria army are not permited and can cannot Kill at will even when their lives is at stake. That is the irony of life, that is the the truth and that's why they are permitted to carry guns and defend the Nations Integrity as agaisnt Boko Haram. Boko Haram cannot win and will not win. I have never seen, I have never read, I have never heard in history where Evil Triumph over good. Not in WORLD WAR 1, NOR WOLD WAR 11, NOT IN 9/11 OR AFGHANISTAN. It cannot be in Nigeria
