Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s recent call for the revocation of South African-owned companies operating in Nigeria—particularly MTN and DSTV—following xenophobic attacks in South Africa is, understandably, rooted in emotion. However, public policy—especially at the level of a distinguished lawmaker—must be guided by logic, long-term national interest, and economic realities, not reactive sentiment. First, while the xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa are condemnable and demand firm diplomatic engagement, shutting down companies like MTN Group and MultiChoice in Nigeria does not address the root cause of these attacks. These companies are not perpetrators of xenophobia; they are business entities operating within Nigerian law and contributing significantly to the Nigerian economy. Second, such a move would ultimately harm Nigeria more than South Africa. MTN Nigeria alone employs thousands of Nigerians directly and supports many more indirectly through its vast ecosystem of vendors, agents, and service providers. Similarly, DSTV operations sustain jobs across technical, creative, and distribution sectors. Closing them would lead to mass unemployment, economic disruption, and loss of investor confidence. Moreover, millions of Nigerians are not just consumers but also shareholders in these companies. Punitive action against them would effectively penalize Nigerian citizens whose investments are tied to these enterprises. This raises an important question: who truly bears the cost of such retaliation? Third, Nigeria must be cautious about setting a precedent that could discourage foreign direct investment. In an increasingly competitive global economy, policy unpredictability sends the wrong signal to investors. Retaliatory economic nationalism, if misapplied, can isolate rather than strengthen an economy. Rather than targeting businesses, Nigeria should respond through appropriate diplomatic channels—engaging the South African government directly, strengthening bilateral agreements on citizen protection, and ensuring accountability for those responsible for the attacks. Nigeria must stand firmly against xenophobia, but it must also act wisely. Emotional responses may satisfy public anger in the short term, but strategic, measured actions will better protect Nigerian lives, investments, and the country’s long-term economic stability. In moments like this, leadership requires not just outrage, and emotional outbursts but foresight and cohesive diplomacy. |
110 OMR is about $286 USD or about N420k Nigeria Naira. On the surface it’ seems great considering you are not earning such in Nigeria. But you’ll not be spending it in Nigeria but in Oman. Oman is expensive even though you’ll be given free accommodation and meals, you’ll still have to buy daily needs and other essential things. Secondly you should be ready to stay in a 5-10 man’s room as the pattern in the Gulf state.. Thirdly your Passport will be seized and you’ll not be able to change your Employer till the duration of your contract expired and if you choose to leave, your Visa will be cancelled and given average of a week to leave with a return ticket. . If you are comfortable with the above it’s something worth considering as you’ll be able to send some upkeep to your family back home . But be prepared to work for that money. You’ll work average of 10 hours a day if not more. If you are used to that it’s a go. Just my humble opinion and speaking from experience. However things might have change but judging from the salary 110 OMR, things hardly changed in the Gulf for the welfare of Foreign workers. All the best |

[quote author=nairalandkachy1 post=125028151]https://fb.watch/mlfjEt_P5b/?mibextid=Nif5oz [/quote Am happy this man did not emerge as the Senate President or any Principal role in this current Red Chamber. With this reasoning. How can a Senator argued Nigeria should pull out of ECOWAS a sub regional group in which Nigeria is the most powerful and influential member because you don't want war. If war is the last recourse to restore democracy and rule of law and by extension Peace, then so be it. The Nigeria army are by profession and their Oath of office expected to fight and defend their fatherland and its interest and probably died doing it if required. Has he forgotten quickly it was the Nigerian army leading role IN ECOMOG that brought peace and stability to Sierra Leone and Liberia in the 90s. Nigerian armed forces are not coward that would chicken out even if they have to fight outside their border and no one should use his myopic sense to appropoate one to them. Besides there would be no war between Nigeria and Niger. But ECOWAS are on the right path and President Tinubu is doing a good job as ECOWAS Leader. Know this and have peace of mind. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. God bless the Nigeria Army. God bless President Bola Tinubu. |
ijustdey:Did you say Ted or Teddy what. He should just take over the whole Nigeria not just the assets. Everybody wan catch cruise with Nigeria. |
Okwyjesus:No. Tinubu has no reason to fear military coup in Nigeria except if the COAS and CDS are from one region. An elected government shouldn't be removed by force of arms except through the same people that elected him through the ballot and by ballot. The Junta has made the same mistake that they accused the overthrown government of committing by calling on Russia for military aid. They are shedding the cloak of France dominance for a Brutal Russia autocracy. What is wrong with Africans mentality |
jideflash:But you responded to him |
What's Yours? Miracle no dey tire Jesus. |
fourboys:Was he in the 10th National Assembly?. Psychophants Ode. |
If your leg can't take you on a run best to hire a bike and run with your wallet intact. When you heard SCAM, ask Google the full meaning. A word is enough for the Smart. |
FalseProphet1:How can you see all this with your blind eyes |
fergie001:We should be trading in What? Naira or Shillings. Hypocrite. As if he just wake up after becoming President. |
MasterJayJay:Or better still they should take their economic and development power back to develop their state. You can't enjoy good hospitality and make profit in a state and not pay tax. |
El Rufai is the only man with the hardball. We practice a Federal system of government. He was elected by the people of Kaduna state. There interest should be paramount to him. Buhari cannot just ignore the constitution which is supreme and ride roughshod it to the state and not expect opposition. Let see who blinks first. For those saying Buhari is doing the right thing ENU E LEWA YEN. ADIE TO SU TI O TO |
nobleswazzy:This order is only designed to help politicians in the sharing of old money during elections,” said the group’s National Coordinator, Obed Okwukwe at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday Obed Okwukwe is from where?. ...Why am I not surprised Head of Civil Society that's so ethnically biased and cannot reason beyond his clouded imagination and empathise with the suffering masses over avoidable and self imposed suffering by the CBN chief. Emefiele and his Kinsmen are doing their hatchet job..Any scheme to fustrate Asiwaju and impose hardship on Nigerian would fail no matter what. |
PeterObi4LP:Tinubu knows he cannot loose. So why would he contemplate what he would do when losing is not in his dictionary. Only losers has alternative to winning. |
