There are some pretty strange laws on the books of different states and cities in the United States. For instance, did you know it is against the law to:


• Doze off under a hair dryer in Florida.
• Play hopscotch on Sunday in Missouri.
• Hunt camels in Arizona.
• Insert a penny in your ear in Hawaii.
• Transport an ice cream cone in your pocket in Kentucky.
• Tie a giraffe to a telephone pole in Atlanta.
• Catch mice without a license in Cleveland.
• Whistle underwater in Vermont.
• Put a skunk in your boss’s desk in Michigan.
• Bathe less than once a year in Kentucky.

And if those don’t make you wonder, here are a few more interesting law facts. Did you know the Chico, California City Council enacted a ban on nuclear weapons, setting a $500 fine for anyone detonating one within city limits? Did you know there are about two million laws in the United States? If a man could review them at the rate of two a day, he could be qualified to act as a law-abiding citizen in about 6,000 years. In ancient Rome all the laws were ordered by Emperor Justinian to be compiled during the 6th century A.D. With 16 assistants, Tribonian came up with 2,000 volumes after three years.

Here’s a final strange history fact on law. According to Robert Ripley, the French statesman Ferdinand Flocon was the only man who succeeded in making a poem out of the law. He took the whole French Civil Code, with its 2,281 articles, statues, annotations, and amendments, and converted them into an immaculate poem of 120,000 words—perfect in rhyme and meter. He did it ostensibly to make the many laws more palatable!

Someone once said the more lawless a people, the more laws they will need. Yet in 10 simple principles any child could learn, God was able to summarize the whole duty of man toward God and his neighbor. But how sad it is that many pastors are teaching the Ten Commandments still have too many laws. The Bible says, “For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all” (James 2:10). Every commandment of God is important. None of them are bizarre or to be set aside.

Perhaps the strangest human computer ever is Charles Grandemange of France. He was born in 1835—a one-pound baby without arms or legs. But he was endowed with a prodigious brain. At age 14 he toured Europe in demonstration of his calculating ability. He lived in a wooden box only one foot wide, but he could multiply two 100-digit numbers by one another within 30 seconds. He could divide a 23-digit figure by another and find the remainder at one glance. He was billed as the most lightning of all lightning calculators. It seems as if his misfortune resulted in the extraordinary development of mathematical skills.


More recently, Scott Flansburg of San Diego, California, has been dubbed “The Human Calculator” by Regis Philbin. This American mental calculator was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records in 2001 for his speed in mental calculation. Scott first realized his calculating skills at age nine and began solving his math teacher’s questions without writing down the calculations. He began keeping a running tally of groceries being purchased by his family at the store and giving his father an exact amount before the cashier rang up the total.

Flansburg has the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and find square and cube roots in his head almost instantly. His calculations are always accurate. He is an advocate for raising math standards and has appeared on television shows. He has also written a couple of books to help children and adults increase their math skills.

The ability to calculate and store numbers in your head is an admirable quality. But there is nothing like storing God’s Word in your mind. David wrote, “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You” (Psalm 119:11). To help Abraham understand the great power of God, the Lord had him do some math. “Then He brought him outside
and said, ‘Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.’ And He said to him, ‘So shall your descendants be’” (Genesis 15:5). When we give our minds to the Lord, He promises to multiply our blessings. You can count on it!

John D. Rockefeller Sr. was strong and husky when small. He was raised a devout Christian but was determined early in life to earn money and drove himself to the limit. At age 33 he earned his first million dollars. At age 43 he controlled Standard Oil, the biggest company in the world. At age 53 he was the richest man on Earth and the world’s only billionaire.


Then he developed a sickness called “alopecia,” where the hair of his head dropped off, and his eyelashes and eyebrows disappeared. He became deeply depressed over his appearance, compounded by his constant stress, and looked like a shrunken mummy. His weekly income was one million dollars, but he digested only milk and crackers. He was so hated in Pennsylvania that he had to have bodyguards day and night. He could not sleep; he stopped smiling and enjoyed nothing in life.

The doctors predicted he would not live more than a year. Gleefully anticipating his demise, the newspapers had written his obituary in advance. Those sleepless nights set him thinking. A Christian friend told him if he did not begin to share his mounting wealth it would crush him like an avalanche. He realized with a new light that he “could not take one dime into the next world.” Money was not everything.

The next morning found him a new man. He began to help churches with his amassed wealth; the poor and needy were not overlooked. He established the Rockefeller Foundation, which funded medical research that led to the discovery of penicillin and other wonder drugs. John D. began to sleep well, eat, and enjoy life. The doctors had predicted he would not live over age 54. He died at age 98.

God understands the power of our thinking. When we focus on ourselves, we will become the most miserable of all people. But when we live to give, health will come into our lives. “A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones” (Proverbs 17:22). Solomon, once the wealthiest man in the world, wrote this Bible verse. John D. Rockefeller discovered its truth.

On February 4, 1974, 19-year-old Patricia Hearst was kidnapped from her Berkeley, California, apartment by a violent urban guerrilla group called the Symbionese Liberation Army, or the SLA. Efforts were made to swap Hearst for jailed SLA members, but when that failed, the SLA asked that Patricia’s family give $70 worth of food to every needy person in California. Patricia Hearst comes from a very wealthy family. She is the granddaughter of the publishing giant William Randolph Hearst and great-granddaughter of millionaire George Hearst.


After her father immediately gave $6 million worth of food to needy people in the Bay Area, the SLA still refused to release Patricia (since the food was supposedly of a poor quality). Then on April 3, 1974, Patricia Hearst announced on an audiotape that she had joined the SLA and took on the name “Tania.” Can you imagine her father’s shock and heartache when, after two months in captivity and giving out $6 million dollars, she decided to stay with her captors?

She later assisted the SLA in a bank robbery and was captured with other SLA members. During her trial she was interviewed by psychologists who believe she was brainwashed and exhibited classic symptoms of Stockholm Syndrome. Patricia was still found guilty and sentenced to 35 years’ imprisonment. Her sentence was later commuted
to seven years and later commuted again by President Jimmy Carter. On February 1, 1979, she was released and later given a full pardon by President Bill Clinton.

While being held, her kidnappers brainwashed her into thinking she was better off with them. Can you imagine how our heavenly Father must feel when we neglect to accept the freedom of eternal life and mansions He is offering us? Especially after sending his only son Jesus as the ransom to die for our sins?

“How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit?” (Hebrews 2:3, 4).

Who would spend $20 million for a one-week vacation? Sixty-year-old Dennis Tito did with no regrets. In fact, you could say his vacation was literally “out of this world” after he became the first private citizen to visit the International Space Station. Dennis started his career as a space scientist, designing flight paths in the 1960s for three historic Mars missions. He then worked at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena for five years. He left to set up a private finance company, Wilshire Associates, where he made his fortune. But Dennis never lost his love for the heavens.


On April 28, 2001, after years of negotiations and red tape, Dennis Tito was chauffeured by two cosmonauts in their Soyuz TM-32 spacecraft to the International Space Station. Tito spent 7 days, 22 hours, 4 minutes in space and orbited Earth 128 times, making him the first private citizen to purchase a trip into space. (I wonder if he booked his

While in space Dennis performed several scientific experiments that he said would be useful for his company and business. Dennis was sorry his vacation could only last a week. Did you know the Bible teaches it is now possible for you to book a journey through space that will last for eons? The good news is that the travel arrangements are already paid in full. In speaking of the assurance of the return of Christ to take us to heaven, Paul writes, “Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee” (2 Corinthians 5:5).

The tropical banyan fig tree is sometimes known as a strangler fig because of its unusual growth habits. Tiny, sticky seeds are deposited by a bird high in the branches of another tree. The aggressive sprouts grow quickly and begin sending roots down over the trunk of the host tree, seeking out the rich soil below. Once they have found the ground and anchored themselves, the strangler fig roots rapidly thicken. Where the fig roots cross each other they fuse together, creating a lattice around the host tree’s trunk. As the roots grow thicker, they compete with the host tree for sunlight and nutrients from the soil. Soon, they squeeze the trunk of its host, cutting off its flow of sap. Gradually, the host tree starves as the banyan tree monopolizes its sunlight, water, and nutrients. Eventually, the host tree dies and rots away, leaving a hollow center with the fig standing in its place.


Some banyan trees put down “aerial roots”—roots that dangle from the branches until they reach the ground and become a second trunk for the same tree. One particular tree in India, called The Great Banyan, is listed in the 1985 Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest tree. It is more than 250 years old and covers an area of four acres. Its 3,300 aerial roots make it appear more like a forest than a single tree. In the 1920s, its original trunk decayed and was removed, but the additional trunks continue to supply all the nutrients it needs.

At first, the sticky seeds of sin can appear small and harmless. But when tolerated, its tentacles will quickly grow. Soon the Christian’s spiritual life begins to starve, and additional sins begin to take root. Eventually, the Christian is choked to death. In the parable of the sower, Jesus instructed His disciples that the thorns that choked the good seed
were the “cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things” so that the word of God sown in the person’s heart becomes unfruitful (Mark 4:19). Are the cares of this world choking the word of God from your heart?

Did you know a member of the grass family is considered to be the fastest-growing plant in the world? It is a member of the true grass family known as Poaceae (po-se-i), also known as Bambuseae. Better known as bamboo, these tall stalks are actually the largest members of the grass family. In the warmer climates of Asia they are capable of growing as much as 39 inches per day! How would you like to keep that grass mowed? Bamboo grows so fast that, if you stand in one of these bamboo forests on a sunny day, you can actually hear the plants growing. Some plants grow 98 feet tall.


Bamboo has economic and cultural significance to South Asia, Southeast Asia, and East Asia. There are around 1,500 different species of bamboo in the world that come in several different colors—such as black, green, gold, gray, red, yellow, and powder blue. The bamboo plant is also extremely versatile with an extraordinary range of uses, and can be made into many things like baskets, bicycle frames, bird cages, blinds, boats, bridges, brushes, buckets, canoes, carts, charcoal, chopsticks, clothing, cooking utensils, diapers, fans, fences, firewood, fishing rods, food steamers, furniture, garden tools, handicrafts, hats, incense, musical instruments, paper, particle board, pens, pipes, roofing, scaffold, tableware, toilets, toothpicks, toys, umbrellas, and walking sticks! In fact, during WWII in the South Pacific, the U.S. Navy even used bamboo to reinforce concrete. That is pretty incredible when you remember that bamboo is just gigantic grass.

When the apostle Peter compared mankind with the Bible, he used grass as an illustration. “All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the word of the Lord endures forever” (1 Peter 1:24, 25). The glory of man’s accomplishments fades into insignificance when compared with God’s glory. Our corruptible works will someday disappear, but the incorruptible fruit of God’s Word will grow and last for eternity. That’s a lot longer than the lifetime of bamboo.

foretold by the prophet. An intentional, deliberate change is presented:
“He shall think to change the times and the law.” The change in the
fourth commandment exactly fulfills the prophecy. For this the only
authority claimed is that of the church. Here the papal power openly sets
itself above God.
While the worshipers of God will be especially distinguished by
their regard for the fourth commandment,—since this is the sign of His
creative power and the witness to His claim upon man’s reverence and
homage,—the worshipers of the beast will be distinguished by their
efforts to tear down the Creator’s memorial, to exalt the institution of
Rome.It was in behalf of the Sunday that popery first asserted arrogant claims ; and its first resort to the power of the
state was to compel the observance of Sunday as “the Lord’s day.” But
the Bible points to the seventh day, and not to the first, as the Lord’s day.
Said Christ: “The Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.” The fourth
commandment declares: “The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord.”
And by the prophet Isaiah the Lord designates it: “My holy day.” Mark
2:28; Isaiah 58:13.

The differentiation is also emphasized here, the mark of the beast is received by everyone to enable them buy and sell, the world is a market place, but the demarcation is that some will worship the beast and his image and others will resist, exalting the commandments of God over all other things.

But I think the sabbath has been changed to everyday, Jesus Christ is the Master of the Sabbath, and He says:


John 4:23
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.

There is no specific day to worship the Lord, to worship the Lord in Spirit and in truth is something that we must do at all times and in all places, the Sabbath is now everyday and everytime. Your worship to God is your action, deed and service to other people/neighbours.

[b][b][b]The claim so often put forth that Christ changed the Sabbath is
disproved by His own words. In His Sermon on the Mount He said:
“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not
come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven
and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law,
till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least
commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in
the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same
shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven,” Matthew 5:17-19.
It is a fact generally admitted by Protestants that the Scriptures give
no authority for the change of the Sabbath. This is plainly stated in
publications issued by the American Tract Society and the American
Sunday School Union. One of these works acknowledges “the complete
silence of the New Testament so far as any explicit command for the
Sabbath [Sunday, the first day of the week] or definite rules for its
observance are concerned.”—George Elliott, The Abiding Sabbath, page
184.
Another says: “Up to the time of Christ’s death, no change had been
made in the day;” and, “so far as the record shows, they [the apostles]
did not ... give any explicit command enjoining the abandonment of
the seventh-day Sabbath, and its observance on the first day of the
week.”—A. E. Waffle, The Lord’s Day, pages 186-188.
Roman Catholics acknowledge that the change of the Sabbath was
made by their church, and declare that Protestants
by observing the Sunday are recognizing her power. In the Catholic
Catechism of Christian Religion, in answer to a question as to the day
to be observed in obedience to the fourth commandment, this statement
is made: “During the old law, Saturday was the day sanctified; but the
church, instructed by Jesus Christ, and directed by the Spirit of God, has
substituted Sunday for Saturday; so now we sanctify the first, not the
seventh day. Sunday means, and now is, the day of the Lord.”
As the sign of the authority of the Catholic Church, papist writers
cite “the very act of changing the Sabbath into Sunday, which Protestants
allow of; ... because by keeping Sunday, they acknowledge the church’s
power to ordain feasts, and to command them under sin.”—Henry
Tuberville, An Abridgment of the Christian Doctrine, page 58. What
then is the change of the Sabbath, but the sign, or mark, of the authority
of the Roman Church—“the mark of the beast”?
The Roman Church has not relinquished her claim to supremacy;
and when the world and the Protestant churches accept a sabbath of
her creating, while they reject the Bible Sabbath, they virtually admit
this assumption. They may claim the authority of tradition and of the
Fathers for the change; but in so doing they ignore the very principle
which separates them from Rome—that “the Bible, and the Bible only,
is the religion of Protestants.” The papist can see that they are deceiving
themselves, willingly closing their eyes to the facts in the case. As
the movement for Sunday enforcement gains favor, he rejoices, feeling
assured that it will eventually bring the whole Protestant world under the
banner of Rome.
Romanists declare that “the observance of Sunday by the Protestants
is an homage they pay, in spite of themselves, to the authority of the
[Catholic] Church.”—Mgr. Segur, Plain Talk About the Protestantism
of Today, page 213. The enforcement of Sundaykeeping on the part of
Protestant churches is an enforcement of the worship of the papacy—of
the beast. Those who, understanding the claims of the fourth
commandment, choose to observe the false instead of the true Sabbath
are thereby paying homage to that power by which alone it is
commanded. But in the very act of enforcing a religious duty by secular
power, the churches would themselves form an image to the beast; hence
the enforcement of Sundaykeeping in the United States would be an
enforcement of the worship of the beast and his image.
But Christians of past generations observed the Sunday, supposing
that in so doing they were keeping the Bible Sabbath; and there are
now true Christians in every church, not excepting the Roman Catholic
communion, who honestly believe that Sunday is the Sabbath of divine
appointment. God accepts their sincerity of purpose and their integrity
before Him. But when Sunday observance shall be enforced by law,
and the world shall be enlightened concerning the obligation of the
true Sabbath, then whoever shall transgress the command of God, to
obey a precept which has no higher authority than that of Rome, will
thereby honor popery above God. He is paying homage to Rome and
to the power which enforces the institution ordained by Rome. He is
worshiping the beast and his image. As men then reject the institution
which God has declared to be the sign of His authority, and honor in its
stead that which Rome has chosen as the token of her supremacy, they
will thereby accept the sign of allegiance to Rome—“the mark of the
beast.” And it is not until the issue is thus plainly set before the people,
and they are brought to choose between the commandments of God and
the commandments of men, that those who continue in transgression will
receive “the mark of the beast.
The most fearful threatening ever addressed to mortals is contained
in the third angel’s message. That must be a terrible sin which calls
down the wrath of God unmingled with mercy. Men are not to be left in
darkness concerning this important matter; the warning against this sin
is to be given to the world before the visitation of God’s judgments, that
all may know why they are to be inflicted, and have opportunity to escape them.

REVELATION 14:12,6-11:After the warning against the worship of the beast and his image the
prophecy declares: “Here are they that keep the commandments of God,
and the faith of Jesus.” Since those who keep God’s commandments are
thus placed in contrast with those that worship the beast and his image
and receive his mark, it follows that the keeping of God’s law, on the
one hand, and its violation, on the other, will make the distinction
between the worshipers of God and the worshipers of the beast.
The special characteristic of the beast, and therefore of his image, is
the breaking of God’s commandments. Says Daniel, of the little horn,
the papacy: “He shall think to change times and the law.” Daniel 7:25,
R.V. And Paul styled the same power the “man of sin,” who was to exalt
himself above God. One prophecy is a complement of the other. Only
by changing God’s law could the papacy exalt itself above God; whoever
should understandingly keep the law as thus changed would be giving
supreme honor to that power by which the change was made. Such an
act of obedience to papal laws would be a mark of allegiance to the pope
in the place of God.
The papacy has attempted to change the law of God. The second
commandment, forbidding image worship, has been dropped from the
law, and the fourth commandment has been so changed as to authorize
the observance of the first instead of the seventh day as the Sabbath. But
papists urge, as a reason for omitting the second commandment, that it is
unnecessary, being included in the first, and that they are giving the law
exactly as God designed it to be understood. This cannot be the change

Bananas are a fruity miracle. They are colorful, nutritious, not to mention the amusing shape is easy to hold, peel, and eat. Bananas also contain three natural sugars—sucrose, fructose, and glucose—combined with a healthy dose of fiber. When a hungry person eats a banana they receive an almost instant and sustained boost of vigor. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. This is why bananas are the favorite fruit of Olympic athletes. In fact, compared to an apple, a banana has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of most affordable fruits around. So maybe it's time to change that well-known proverb to "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"


Studies have shown that bananas can also help overcome or prevent a substantial array of illnesses and conditions ranging from depression, heartburn, and anemia, to stroke and morning sickness. Around the world different parts of the banana plant are used for clothing, paper, and tableware, and the skin of the banana is used to heal everything from insect bites to warts. Indeed, the banana appears almost perfectly designed for human consumption and distribution. It is difficult to conceive of a more practical blueprint for the ideal fruit.

Have you noticed the banana has no seeds? Amazingly the banana is a mutant; it is the result of the cross pollination of two almost inedible Asian fruits. The banana is a freakish genetic amalgamation; one that has survived through the centuries due to the sustained intervention of diligent humans. These fragile fruits can only be cloned from suckering
shoots and cuttings taken from the underground stem of existing plants. Over time, Arab traders carried the new wonder fruit to Africa, and Spanish conquistadors brought them to the Americas.

So if you have ever pictured Adam and Eve savoring bananas in the Garden of Eden you better think again. Bananas only happen through man participating with God’s creation. This is also true regarding the fruit of the Spirit. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). I wonder what types of fruit will be on the tree of life in heaven.
