I have a severe case of premature ejaculation (PE). It's so bad that I barely last 5 seconds during sex. I used to masturbate heavily years ago, but I stopped completely over 4 years ago. Even back then, I could last around 20 minutes in the first round.

Effects of a public company buying back it's shares. Microsoft Inc and Apple Inc as examples

The effect of a public company buying back it's shares is reflected in the price of the shares and hence the market valuation of the company.
Like with any other thing being traded, the higher the demand, the higher the price will be. Therefore the price of one unit of any company will be higher if the board is doing a share buyback. By how much it will be higher than it should be will be determined by how aggressive the share buy back is amongst other factors. Therefore the market value of a company will always be higher than it should be when the company board is doing a share buy back or a share mop up. It may be by 5, 10, 20 percent and etc. The exact margin of increase or inflation in this case will depend on the level of aggression of the buy back or mop up. The increase in valuation of the company that it will cause is inflationary as any unwarranted growth is.

However, the actual or legitimate aim of the board of any company should be to increase its market share and the evidence for this is not in the market valuation of the company. It is in revenue. A market share growth or even an aggregate growth can only manifest via a revenue growth.

If we now compare Apple Inc that does share buy backs and Microsoft Inc that does not do share buy backs, we will discover that Microsoft Inc has increased it's revenue overtime more than Apple Inc despite not ploughing back it's profits into share buy backs or shares mop ups like Apple Inc. Apple Inc is however more valuable on paper. No one can argue against the fact that no matter their valuation on paper, Microsoft Inc in reality is more valuable than Apple Inc if it pays out more dividends over twenty years than Apple Inc.

Conclusion

Share buy backs or share mop ups creates an opportunistic market valuation for public corporations while corporations whose board do not do it have valuations that is more aligned with an ideal market.

My definitions of Opportunistic and ideal markets are discussed in an unsolicited Economics paper I sent to the university of St Petersburg in Russia years ago.

Recommendation

A public company should ideally share all it's profits to it's shareholders regularly and not be using it to increase the demand for its own shares thereby increasing it's market valuation because any increase in the valuation of a company not tied clearly to more productivity and more revenue is inflationary. Inflationary growth should not be the standard.
