The Katsina State Police Command has burst a notorious syndicate of thieves who specialize in theft of money, GSM handsets and other valuables. Spokesperson of the command, SP Isah Gambo, who confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday, November 10, said that the suspects are also being investigated for murder. "On 26/10/2019 during the annual Sheikh Ahmed Tijjani Maulud conducted at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium, Katsina, the Command succeeded in conducting a sting operation at various locations in and around the venue, and the following members of a notorious syndicate of gang of thieves who have specialized in theft of money, GSM handsets and other valuables were apprehended. The suspects confessed to various crimes committed within the state. They are also being investigated in connection with a case of Culpable Homicide and armed robbery that recently occurred at Sabon Gari Division area of Katsina state. Following the five day ultimatum issued by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, to the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) on the 5th of November 2019, to resolve the challenges of illegal data deductions and review the cost of data downward, the commission has commenced the implementation. In a statement by the Spokesperson to the Minister, Mrs. Uwa Suleiman, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), Prof. Umar Danbatta had written the Minister intimated of the strategies been taken to stem the tide of short changing subscribers by Mobile Network Operators. It will be recalled that the minister at the presentation of the new Executive Commissioner of NCC, Barr. Adeleke Oluwole this week had directed the regulator to stop all illegal data deductions by service providers and review same downwards within five days. In a letter from the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), received by the office of the Minister on the 8th of November 2019, the telecommunications regulator, intimated the Minister of the strategies been taken to stem the tide of short changing subscribers by Mobile Network Operators. According to the statement, the Commission in its earlier attempts to tackle the challenges informed the Minister that it had issued a directive to all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) on the attendant penalties associated with Automatic Renewal and Forceful Subscription to Data and Value Added Services. The penalties include considerable financial sanctions on the erring operator. The Minister reads in part: “The letter stated that, in response to the directive of the Minister, the Commission reviewed the Nigerian Communications Act of 2003 on its rule-making powers and process. “The Commission is in the process of carrying out a study on the End-of-Session Notification for Data Services and depending on the outcome, may issue a direction in accordance with the Act. “Furthermore, in a bid to protect consumers, the NCC also notified the Minister of their regulation of the initial directive to include refunds to the consumer in established cases of unauthorized subscription.” The Commission while assuring the Minister that it will work assiduously round the clock to enforce the Federal Government’s directives requested the Minister to extend the deadline which expires today, 8th November 2019, to enable it properly re-strategise and fully implement long term solutions as directed, to the challenges. The minister in response graciously granted an extension of the deadline with the understanding that the NCC will resolve these issues within the shortest time possible. The Minister, further assured the general public that the current administration will neither tolerate acts of injustice nor the shortchanging of its citizens as it is working tirelessly to ensure that subscribers get full value for their money. Corps members participating in Bayelsa Gubernatorial Election scheduled for November 16, have been advised to think of their safety first. In a statement issued by Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi, Director of Press and Public Relations of the National Youth Service Corps on behalf of the Director-General of the NYSC Brig Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim on Friday November 8, corps members were told to be security-conscious and look for escape routes in case of emergency. “Run for your dear lives in case of any emergency and don’t endanger your safety. “Be courteous when dealing with the electorates, caution yourself when provoked and ensure that your phone is fully charged with enough call cards during the election,” he said. Corps members were also advised to abide by the electoral laws and avoid actions that might undermine the election. He added “Be neutral and non-partisan because NYSC would not tolerate and Corps Member that violate the Electoral Act.” The Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu on his own part said adequate security has been provided for all corps members and corpers lodges in the state during and after the election. He also promised prompt payment of entitlements due for corps members who according to him have added to the credibility of Nigerian elections. A young woman, who dumped her three-month-old baby on the street of Ugbe Akoko in the Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State last week, Monsuratu Arogundade, has been released by the police. Arogundade, 23, abandoned the baby on the street and ran away, but some good Samaritans picked up the child and reported the matter to the police. It was gathered that the baby was later handed over to officials of the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. Arogundade said at the office of a lawyer in Ikare Akoko, Mr Lanre Kareem, that she lost her mind when she took the decision to abandon the child and appealed to the government to release the baby to her. “I want to beg the government to pardon me and release my baby to me; I didn’t know what I was doing that day; I lost my mind at that period,” she stated. The Adamawa Police Command has confirmed the arrest of an alleged fake medical doctor in Modire-Yolde-Pate ward in Yola South local government area. The command spokesperson, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, confirmed the development to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Yola. Nguroje said that the suspect identified as Gambo Adamu, was arrested and remanded under prison custody. He said Adamu was initially a patent medicine retailer who suddenly began admitting patients. ”The suspect, Gambo Adamu, was apprehended on October 24, 2019 following intelligence report. ”According to first intelligence report, Adamu is a Patient Medicine operator but suddenly turned a three bedroom house to a clinic and began admitting patients. Read Also: Adamawa shifts local govt election to Dec 7 ”The suspect is already charged to court while investigation continues,” Nguroje said. According to the PPRO, the command have shutdown the illegal facility. He said the command was liaising with the state branch of the Nigerian Medical Association and the state government for further investigation. Nguroje called on members of the public to give maximum cooperation by reporting any suspicious activity to the police or nearest security outpost for prompt action. NAN recalls that Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri recently expressed concern over the proliferation of quack medical doctors and illegal hospitals in the state. Fintiri said that the activities of fake medical doctors in the state was an issue of grave concern and directed the state ministry of health and other relevant stakeholders to fight the menace. The EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Office on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, secured the conviction of one Akinbamidele Femi John charged before a Kwara State High Court on a three count charge bordering on Internet Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences. . .
