I have really learnt a lot from your contributions. This year will be my second year of application. I applied last year for Public health (General Option), scored 53 but was denied admission. While somebody else score 47 and was given the admission.

Considering i have a biological background (B.Sc Microbiology) with very little experience, i suspect Public Health was too competitive for me, hence my being denied admission.

SO, this year, i have resolved to just face my course (M.Sc Medical Microbiology and Parasitology) so that, apart from my love for the course, my chances of admission will be increased.

I'm very sure nelsx n nani did nt read dis post 2 d fullest. Probably dey came across a statemnt in my post dey did nt like n dat hs made dem 2 vomit rubbish. May b u shud read d post again. But 4 clarity sake, I'll respond 2 ur sensless posts. I don't feel inferior a bit 4 studyn zoology @ Bsc level n hope 2 av a blissful career as a medical parasitologist as my 1st degree can't hinder me frm achieving dat. I state again dat most unversities (95%) in d world don't study mls at bsc level but rather it's splitted as branches n studied @ bsc level. Even d few ones dat offer mls @ bsc level don't even do it elaborately as it is been done here. Dey gv dia students options 2 pick frm. Mls is nt a professional course in the few universities dat offer it. That is y u see a zoologist who specializes in med parasitology or genetics or medical entomologists or a microbiologist who has a keen interest in med bacteriology, virology, mycology, immunology or biochemist who is an enzymologist etc work clinically in hospital laboratories n med centre. That is y medical practise in these countries r superb cos scientists in each of these sub-disciplines r allowed 2 express demselves freely without any form of discriminatn. No wonder many elites in 9ja r goin dr 4 treatmnt. Even d discriminatn bw doctors n bms graduates ncludng includin d so called mls is totally uncalled for. Every1 shud work as a team as it is bein practise abroad. Let me end by saying dat not being a licenced med parasitologist CAN'T stop me frm attaining success in medical parasitology. #shikena

UK, US, Germany, Belgium, Canada, Japan, China, India, even Ghana etc split MLS into its several branches like chemical pathology, med mcb, med para, haemo, cyto, biochem etc, professionalised dem n thus allow its graduates 2 practice in hospitals n med centres. Some of u r saying dat gradu8s of some of dis branches r only trained 2 b researchers but gradu8s of MLS can also b a researcher too in any or even all of d branches. Its totally rubbish. In as much as I'll like 2 b licensed in d nearest future, but trust me I'm much okay wit being a researcher wit a keen interest in medical parasitology afta my first degree in Zoology. To other non MLS bio n biomedical scientists, let's jx hope dat dis issue will b settled soon in Nigeria, but 4 nw 4get abt hospitals. There r other places 2 practise- lecturers n researchers in universities, polytechnics n research institutes, quality control officers in food, drinks n pharmaceutical industries, sales representatives in pharmaceutical coys, staffs n consultants in NGOs, ministries n agencies like CDC, UNICEF, WHO, WELCOME Trust, ministries of health, science, enviroment n agric etc. So many fields dat u can explore.
My advice is dat scrap n split MLS as a whole course, reform d curriculum n proffessionalise d splited branches 2 meet clinical standard at Bsc, Msc n Phd levels. By so doing, more jambites wud b accomodated n dis will reduce d back log of bio n biomedical science applicants every year, encourage division of labour n competitions which will bring efficiency in clinical practise in Nigeria n reduce uneployment. The creator of dis thread has totally lost it. All courses in biosciences hv good career prospects in researches n odas. If everybody are doctors, lawyers, engineers, accountants etc. where wud u place d importance of oda professions. It all depends on u. For e.g doctors depend on bioscientist mcbist, zoologist, biochemist, botanist, geneticist directly or indirectly 2 carry out dia duties. Doctors only treat ailments but dey don't know hw 2 control or prevent dem. Prevention is better dan cure dey say. The effective control n d near extinction of dracunculiasis(guinea worm disease) n oda diseases is d handworks of bioscientists n nt doctors. I'm a proud parasitologist. I LOVE IT SO MUCH
