Politics / Pizza Import Scandal Costs Theresa May Her Job by Talkaboutit(f): 5:17pm On May 30, 2019
Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture says “Justice has been served.”

UK Prime Minister Theresa May tearfully resigned from her post in an announcement to the press on the steps of Number 10 Downing Street. Brought down by the UK “Pizzagate” scandal exposed by Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture back in March, many knew her days were numbered.

Ok, so that probably happened in a parallel universe where President Buhari has a PhD in Quantum Physics, but here in our own part of the Milky way galaxy, Brexit has claimed its second Prime Minister in a row after David Cameron. The political tussle over how Britain leaves the Eurozone doesn’t seem to have an amicable end in sight.

Three times Theresa May offered a deal on this matter and three times members of her own Tory party rejected her. Some called it an impossible job. There are simply too many interest groups and factions to deal with.

What’s next?

Her resignation takes effect on June 7th, after which she will serve as caretaker Prime Minister until a replacement is found, expected to happen before the end of July. “Rumor has it” like Adele that this man is the favourite to replace her:

That’s pro-Brexit politician Boris Johnson. He’s liked by Donald Trump tell’s us a lot, in addition to both men being overweight with hair that looks like wigs.

It’s anyone’s guess where Britain and the Eurozone go from here. The wild ride continues.

TV/Movies / What To Watch After GOT by Talkaboutit(f): 3:53pm On May 30, 2019
Finally, the hard-hitting GOT series has finally come to an end with some people feeling a bit more disappointed than others. Now the question is, what next? I need a new series to watch, something with the heart stumping deception and goriness that we all loved in the game of thrones and maybe, a little bit up to our time.

GOT
Well, look no further. We’ve got a few suggestions on what train you should jump in.

The Walking Dead

In a post-apocalyptic America, the survivors do everything they can to survive the zombie-ridden streets of the one great nation. Asides fighting of zombies aka “walkers”, they also have to face conflict from themselves as there as so many formed groups and communities with different morals and rules which others do not agree with.

This series goes on to show us the challenges people face in a world filled with the undead, expect lots of blood.

2. Breaking Bad

Breaking bad
No gory killer scenes here, this series follows the life of Walter White, a depressed high school chemistry teacher with lung cancer. The story quickly climaxes when he turns to a life of crime by producing and selling methamphetamine with the of his student in a bid to secure a financial future for his family before he gives up the ghost.

We follow Walter as he makes crystal meth and watches how he navigates the dangers of the drug dealing world.

3. Narcos

Narcos
Still on the drug train, only this one’s realistic. This series tells the true story of one of the biggest crime lords the world has ever seen, from the grass to grace story of Pablo Escobar, to how he became power hungry to being hunted by the DEA and his tragic demoralising death. But it doesn’t end there, the story goes on to tell us about the downfall of the Cali cartel and how the drug traders this going strong in several parts of the world.

This is an intense story of power, greed and lots of money! And the fact that it’s a true story.

4. The 100

the 100
Brutal agonising deaths, and a story that progresses over the seasons before they’re shockingly killed…….in manners you’ve gotten accustomed to from watching GOT

This post-apocalyptic science fiction drama follows a group of criminal teenagers as they return to earth after a criminal apocalypse. Watch as the characters try to make moral decisions in this dark series.

5. Empire

Empire
Watch as the struggle to take over the family business breaks up a family, brings them back and then breaks them up again. If the sick plot twists of empire don’t get you, then the shocking death scenes will and deceptive Lucious Lyon can be. Either way, we would love to meet the scriptwriters of this series and have a cup of tea with them just to get a whiff of how their minds work.

6. Into the Badlands

Into the Badlands
This series follows a warrior and a young boy in post-apocalyptic America, as they try to seek refuge in a somewhat mystical land.

Easy as it sounds the dog have to navigate battling clippers, barons, slave master and savages losing loved ones along the way. If the storyline isn’t gripping enough, the kill scene will as they share every detail of each gory scene intimately with the viewer.

These shows will definitely leave you forgetting the disappointing ending to the GOT finale and craving for the next episode.

Technology Market / List Of Top Nigerian Scams (at The Moment) by Talkaboutit(f): 3:46pm On May 30, 2019
The economic situation keeps on deteriorating day by day, job opportunities nowhere to be found, leaving most with nothing to do but come up with creative scams ok let’s say “unique” ways of making a quick buck.

The rate at which people get scammed these days is quite alarming, Nigeria being the poverty capital of the world is no exception. Amazing how so many foreigners have been duped by stranded Nigerian Princes.

We Nigerians are no exception to this sad form of daylight robbery. We are constantly bombarded with new tricks by these scammers, from credit card fraud to social media scams.

Today, we’re going to tell you about the list of top Nigerian scams to look out for, and of course, avoid!

Prize money.
We see this a lot on social media, a simple spin the wheel game or one quick and easy trivia on facebook for a prize of N1000 airtime. When you win the game, they ask for your detail e.g. email, date of birth, full name, state of origin. These might not look like much, but they’ll use these details at later times for phone calls and spam emails.

Government officials.
Some scammers with big balls sometimes try to take the physical approach, coming to your house as PHCN officials or Water services and claim they want to do a routine check on your meter or pipes. They just want to size up your house so as to plan for a later date of the robbery.

Catfishing.
So a hot girl follows you on twitter, everything seems to check out, you slide into the DMs because no time, the convo’s going well, already planning on asking her out, till you see her on a “Guy’s lets show them ourselves” thread and then realise that your crush is actually one buff guy, thank your lucky stars.

Most times the victims end up sending money to the catfish accounts in a bid to win their love not knowing they’re sending money to one random guy perched on a laptop somewhere.

Social Media Stores.
Social media has brought so much good to the world, especially in the market place. Anyone can go online and open a business account online bringing his or herself closer to their customers which is great, but these days, its really hard to know who is legit or fake.

No one wants to order an iPhone 8 online, only to get it and out it runs on an Android OS.

Be careful when buying stuff online and make sure to do proper background checks on all potential media outlets you want to patronises.

Voice scammers.
Everybody loves that random call from their grandparents or old time friends, well used to. These days random calls from unknown numbers usually mean a potential scammer and most times it’s very difficult to decipher who’s on the phone without sounding rude, but it’s 2019, no one gives AF.

For every unknown number that calls you, always make sure to have a full-on question session with them to be totally sure.

Bank scammers
We’re in the age where the banks are constantly sending messages to us for card maintenance, bank balance etc. Seeing this, some scammers send messages to random people telling them that the credit cards have been deactivated, asking them to send in their card details.

That’s where they get them……account wiped.

Fake news
Clickbait, news headlines like Buhari steps down as President. Anything to get you on their site and then they ask for your email, which isn’t a big deal…..till you start receiving spam emails offering you fake job opportunities and event invites.

Before clicking on news headlines like this, always try to do a quick google search.

Travel scams and unrealistic vacation opportunities
Everyone one wants to leave this sad excuse for a country, some more desperate than others and these are the usual victims. Lagos to Dubai 100k! What they won’t tell you is that the plane will land in Libya and you have to walk the rest of the way.

There’s a lot more than we probably do not know about, all we can say is be careful! And always double check and be very very observant!

Politics / First Lady Of Troublemaking Aisha by Talkaboutit(f): 3:35pm On May 30, 2019
“It is shocking that Madam Aisha Buhari, the Wife of the President without doing any proper survey makes an attempt to drag the programmes and its managers in the mud. For whatever reason this is being done, it is unkind and unfair.”

These were the scathing comments Mr Bernard Okri, the President of GEPIn (Global Economic Policy Initiative ) in a statement released in reaction to Mrs Aisha Buhari. You may ask yourself what has the meddling first wife gone and done this time.

Well, in short, Aisha Buhari didn’t have her way or her say with regards to the Social Investment programme set up by her husband’s administration. This program is one of the first in history whereby Nigerian’s can make an application for the program and be selected strictly on merit.

The programmes have been praised by the President and through surveys have proven to have changed people’s lives. Several such as the N-Power programme have gained beneficiaries in over 774 Local Government areas.

However, our first lady expressed her chagrin for the government programme mainly because she did not get the chance to flex her delegating skills. She has since commented that the programme is based on “faulty standards”. Mr Okri further expressed that “to deride an entire programme in the Northern parts of the country is unfair and amounts to playing dirty sectional and ethnic politics that divides the country needlessly.”Though the President has previously made controversial comments that his wife should stay in the kitchen, it is looking like based on her ego induced interfering skills she should stay there.

Politics / Game Of Thrones Happening Live In Kano State! by Talkaboutit(f): 10:17am On May 23, 2019
While you are crying over the death of Daenerys and wishing Jon Snow should be king, there is a real struggle going on in Kano state for the removal of the Emir of Kano, Emir Sanusi II by the scheming “greedy finger” Gandollar$ (we mean Gandjude).

In true Game of Thrones style, Ganduje was alleged to have been behind the push for the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission reopening investigations into the expenditure of the state emirate council under Sanusi II.

Recently at the house of assembly, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, the speaker, read a letter from one Ibrahim Salisu and others, seeking the creation of new Kano emirates in Karaye, Bichi, Rano and Gaya.

An official of the state government, who asked not to be named stated that “The governor is determined to remove the emir, and if this does not succeed, he will break the emirate into pieces to whittle down Sanusi’s power,” for more details of the Game of Thrones moves

Politics / Lauretta Onochie : 99 Tweets But Truth Ain’t One. by Talkaboutit(f): 1:44pm On May 21, 2019
Apparently one of Buhari’s social media handlers Lauretta Onochie didn’t have the common sense to realize that if you tweet defamatory lies on social media the response you get is a multi-million naira lawsuit sliding into your DM.

We suggest a lacking in common sense because based on Buhari’s history and past comments on education, it would be a bit much to presume she has a degree.

The social media influencer of the moment Lauretta Onochie made a mindless tweet accusing PDP presidential candidate Atiku of being put on the terrorist watchlist by the United Arab Emirates. She even tried to throw in a funny joke asking whether he had been “shopping for terrorists” on his last trip to the UAE.

That expensive joke cost her big time. She was immediately left with backlash on Twitter and hit with a retraction letter from Atiku’s lawyers. A 48-hour request for her to take the despicable tweet down and a demand to cough up 500 million Naira!

This social media assistant (who by the way is a 66-year-old Madam) has a history of tweeting lies and nonsense all over the place. Attacking PDP and the Atiku team with several made up stories. On a side note if the social media assistant is 66 we can only assume the social media manager is around 80! Facts like these just make you stop and wonder about the thinking process behind this Buhari administration.

As per usual they didn’t think far ahead and failure to comply with the requests will result in landing Lauretta Onochie aka Ms Tweet in a lawsuit that will demand N2 billion for aggravated and punitive damages.

Let’s see if she can find a hashtag for that.

Politics / Ondo State Governor Wants To Puff Puff Pass To Prosperity by Talkaboutit(f): 4:49pm On May 17, 2019
Well, well, well, guess who just became the coolest Governor in Nigeria and is going to be invited to all the weekend University parties if they’re not on ASUU strike:

It’s Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state!

Yesterday, the Governor revealed a picture of himself in Thailand.
Unlike President Buhari and his secret trips to the UK, the Governor was happy to reveal the purpose of his trip to Thailand. Accompanied by the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Col. Muhammad Mustapha, the Governor was in Thailand on an exploratory trip titled “Medicinal Cannabis Extract Development.”

With Thailand becoming the first country in South-east Asia to legalize medical marijuana in 2018, Governor Akeredolu took the Chairman of the NDLEA with him to observe the processes employed by the nation to mass produce Cannabis for medicinal purposes.

We actually thought he took the NDLEA chairman with him as insurance to avoid being arrested upon returning to Nigeria but we were wrong.

So why go on this trip? The Governor explained on his Twitter page.

He continued:

“Our focus now is Medical Marijuana cultivation in controlled plantations under the full supervision of the @ndlea_nigeria. I strongly implore the FG to take this seriously as it is a thriving industry that will create 1000’s of Jobs for our youth & spur Economic Diversification.”

With Cannabis being illegal in Nigeria, the governor has an uphill task to garner the support needed to legalize it. With the promise of jobs and taxable income for the state of Ondo, he just might have a case to make if he can get the NDLEA on his side.

This is a developing story to watch. What are your thoughts? Drop us a line and keep on talking!

Science/Technology / Your Uber Driver Will Now Shut Up! by Talkaboutit(f): 2:49pm On May 17, 2019
Maybe someone at Uber finally tried the ride experience. Don’t you just hate it when you’ve just hopped in an Uber after a long day at work and the driver is pouring out question after question.
On so many occasions a very important WhatsApp message has gone unanswered or an urgent email forgotten, simply because your driver has decided to ask whether to increase or reduce the AC for the 100th time.

Not all Uber Drivers are the same but there are some that just take it too far. Did you hear about the driver that refused to drive a passenger because they didn’t say “Good afternoon”.

I’m not saying go out there and be rude, but how does greeting factor into the process of getting paid to take someone from point A to B.

Anyway, such situations can now be avoided altogether (in America). Uber has thankfully introduced a setting in the app that enables you to select options like “Quiet Preferred”, “happy to chat” or “No Preference” when booking rides.

When the option becomes available in Nigeria mine will permanently be on “Quiet Preferred!”

TV/Movies / The Ultimate Endgame Is The Game Of Thrones Finale by Talkaboutit(f): 2:33pm On May 17, 2019
So now how is this Game of Thrones going to end? After all the hype, all the billboards all the family, friends talking about it, what will the world be like without Game of Thrones?

Well, forecasts are saying this finale is not going to be good and it’s looking like the scriptwriters don’t “GOT” our backs.

There’s been a list of complaints, hiccups and observations plaguing the internet lets take a deep dive into the seven kingdoms.

Stunts like Starbucks opening a branch in the North threw everyone into a frenzy. How can a Starbucks coffee cup accidentally appear in a scene? Are the game of thrones crew not taking the show seriously, was it truly an error or really clever pr.

Character development has been terrible. Jon Snow has been practically useless throughout the season vehemently flying the flag of modesty claiming he doesn’t want the throne and Danaerys is his queen. There have not been enough deaths and the few we’ve had have been as dramatic as a doorknob. The knight king, one stab. The evil Cersei…a few castle bricks.

Ultimately the biggest let down has been the complete deterioration of one of our beloved leads. Our mother of Dragons, our breaker of chains….now our nuttiest of nut jobs, Danaerys Targaryen.

A character that has spent 7 seasons going through trials, and heartbreak, surviving rape, deaths, betrayals only to come and become the type of monster that tried to oppress her destiny in the first place.

Lord knows what the writers were trying to achieve but I’m sorry I still have not forgotten they made us wait a year. A whole extra year for this final season oh! So if they spent that time having a laugh and drinking ogogoro, we have to hold them accountable.

Every online poll on any entertainment or film site you take has a result of people saying they don’t think the finale will be good ( you can take our Talkabout Poll here)

A petition has gone round started by an angry fan, demanding that the Game of Thrones team remake the final season and guess how many people have signed it. More than 450,000 people. So rest assured we are not alone in our united disappointment.

As disappointed as I am though I’m not too disappointed to stay up and watch it live which will be 2 AM on Sunday night in Lagos. Let’s see who sits on this iron throne
