Now imagine if I hadn’t listened to my friend’s warning two and a half years ago. Imagine if I had ignored him and tried to talk to her anyway. Even if there was only a small chance she would have said yes, imagine the chief finding out that someone was trying to toast his wife. Or worse—imagine if something had actually happened between us secretly. Imagine a day like today arriving years later, with me sitting there at the naming ceremony of a child whose mother I once slept with.
