RomanceHow My Love For Books Nearly Got Me Labeled A Thief by Talkisneeded(op): 10:38am On Oct 16, 2025
They say every man has his hustle in these parts, and my life has been no different. From the time I was a young boy,I knew nothing—big or small, cheap or costly—would ever come to me on a silver platter. My parents were hustlers, and they raised me with the same fire in my belly.
Growing up,my mom would always tell me, “You can achieve anything if you’re dedicated to it. Just stay focused on God,books, and work—the sky will be your starting point, and it was that same that nearly got me killed today.
I clung to that mantra this very morning as I prepared to deliver a special batch of manpower herbs to a client who’d seen glowing testimonials about my remedies on Nairaland.
Quoting him verbatim: “Good morning,Quadri Omo Iya Alagbo. I’m texting because I saw testimonies of your herbs on Nairaland. For months,I’ve been battling premature ejaculation and piles, which nearly wrecked my marriage. My woman’s threatening to walk because of my inefficiency in bed. I’d love to get it tomorrow morning at 9 a.m,because I’m traveling before 10 p.m. if it’s available.”
I replied in the affirmative after settling the price.
I set out at 7:30 a.m. to meet his request. No dispatch rider could make it on such short notice,so I went myself. The journey across the city should’ve taken 45 minutes, but with Lagos traffic, who knows? I was determined not to disappoint a client who’d begged me to arrive by 9 on the dot.
Sometimes, the agberos and conductors annoy me so much I’m inches from unleashing a torrent of curses. But as a proper Lagos boy who’s lived here all my life,I’ve learned to love them despite their flaws. They’re part of me—I can’t count the free rides I scored in secondary school..Egbon I be student with a tearful eyes was all that did the trick then…
Today was smooth sailing. From Ikorodu to Yaba, traffic was light, and I projected I’d hit the address before 9.
In my rush not to let down a new client,I’d stupidly skipped breakfast. My stomach rumbled a fierce reminder. Missing one meal won’t kill me, I consoled myself. I can grab food around Yaba on the way back.
At 8:45 a.m,the client was a specimen—tall, dark, athletic build. The kind modern ladies call a dream man. But Jedi and premature ejaculation respect no one:if you don’t fix it,it fixes you.
After some Nairaland banter—mostly roasting Seun’s bot and Lalasticlala’s snake obsession—I handed over the herbs with clear dosage instructions (before the Nairaland medical boys swoop in claiming agbo has no dosage). Then I turned to head home. My stomach growled again, echoing my promise of roadside food.
That’s when my trouble began.
I’d walked just five minutes when I spotted a faded poster: “FOOD IS READY HERE.”
I strode into the buka like a king—I’d just closed another sale, and money’s my eternal motivator. The shabby exterior hid a gem inside:neatly arranged seats, two standing fans, four round tables,a handwashing sink in the far corner. They had it all—rice, beans, bread, jollof, eba, semo, amala, fufu, and every soup imaginable-a proper Lagos buka..
I ordered three wraps of fufu, efo riro, one fish, and two pieces of assorted meat. It arrived lightning-fast. As I devoured the last wrap, my eyes locked on it…
Just an arm’s stretch away sat a big bowl holding a current Punch newspaper. One headline screamed: HOW VICTOR OSIMHEN ROSE FROM THE STREETS OF OLUSOSUN IN MUSHIN TO SAVE THE WORLD CUP HOPES OF 200 MILLION NIGERIANS.
The words arrested me. Unbeknownst to me, a purse lay hidden beneath. As I stretched for the paper, the girl who’d served me snapped in pidgin: “Wetin you dey find there? Oh, una wan steal our purse again—like dem steal am last month!”
Shock choked me. I’d come to eat,and now I was being accused of theft?
After an eternity,I stammered,“I just wanted the newspaper. I didn’t know about the purse underneath. I’m sorry.”
My cheap sorry did nothing to sway her. I finished my last fufu wrap in pin-drop silence, paid, and slipped out quietly while she murmured behind me
As I headed to Yaba garage for the bus back to my beloved Ikorodu,a thousand thoughts stampeded through my mind:
What if I wasn’t the only customer there?
What if she’d shouted to alert everyone?
Would I have been mobbed by the angry public?
Could I have fallen victim to jungle justice?
Random questions swirled endlessly until a conductor’s scream—“Ikorodu! Ikorodu garage!”—snapped me back to reality and I knew home beckons

They raised the prices of common malaria drugs so high that the common man can’t afford it,now the common man has gone back to local medicine for healing they are complaining…
Malaria drugs 7k,herbs 1500…both provides healing, now the drugs companies are not making sales they are all here to push narrative that herbs is bad for you…
You all think those capitalists care about your health, their gain first, that why malaria drugs doesn’t heal you,you treat malaria every month despite spending 10k on drugs

Same herbs that your ancestors drank and lived up to 90 years, same herbs that you took as a child and did no harm to you..,
You can’t introduce your life to smoke, vape, shisha, skuchies and all sort and come here to blame herbs for your woes…

Whoever is pushing this narrative should stop,it’s getting nauseating already…
Herbs did not harm your forefathers,if herbs is harming you then you are not buying from the right source or you are patronizing counterfeit herb seller simple, same way they’re counterfeit science medicine.

Herbs is not your problem, the poisonous gas you inhale everyday in from cars, generators, factory machine is your problem, not herbs…..

Hmmm. Noticing a pattern here. Clearly someone wants to reinvent herself and so the strategy begins with 'interviews' reminding us about a feud which everyone forgot and now this. All hot topics that will entice readers.

It's interesting that Tiwa is also participating in this. Is this how the industry works?
