nonsom: I don't think ur friend's story is true because u don't go to a polling station to start announcing the party/candidate u want to vote for, that would amount to campaigning on election day which is enough evidence to even disqualify the party, APC in this case, if what u said is true. I think we should be careful with our utterances, going forward. 2 Likes |

As more stakeholders drummed support for former Abia State governor ,Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, urging him to vie for FIFA presidency position, a group, Nigerian Youths for Orji Uzor kalu (NAYOU-KALU) has appealed to ex-international, Chief Segun Odegbami to drop his ambition and support Kalu. The group in a statement signed by Ayuba Bulus and Reverend Ray Maina, National Coordinator and Financial Secretary respectively noted that Kalu is the man that is in good stead to face the world, given his impressive record in the administration of sports. The statement read in part:”We advise our brother, Segun Odegbami (the Mathematician) in the interest of our dear country, Nigeria and his love for football to please step down for Kalu. Kalu is the man that can face the world and he has an enviable record in sports administration. He mentored and nurtured Enyimba football club to win the CAF Champions League back to back, a feat which no Nigerian sports administrator is yet to equal.” The group then implored Nigerians and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to give the former Abia State governor the maximum support to enable Nigeria and Africa speak with one voice and win the FIFA presidency election early next year. It reiterated that Kalu is suitable for the position and expressed confidence in his ability to make a mark at the world football stage as a leader because of his maturity and experience. “Kalu’s success stories in sports, business and politics are highly commendable and these make him the most suitable candidate from Nigeria for the position of FIFA president.” http://sunnewsonline.com/new/fifa-presidency-group-urges-odegbami-to-step-down-for-kalu/

By Henry Umoru ABUJA – FORMER Spokesperson of former President Goodluck Jonathan Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has condemned the abduction of former Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Olu Falae, calling on security agencies to as a matter of urgency fish out perpetrators of the act. In a statement Monday, Fani-Kayode who described the act as a dangerous development, said that the people of South West cannot watch idly while leaders of the zone and Afenifere were being humiliated. According the former Minister of Aviation, ” The abduction of Chief Olu Falae is not only unacceptable but it also an exceptionally dangerous development. I say this because he is not only an elder-statesman of our country but he is also one of the most revered leaders of Afenifere and the south-west. “We cannot sit by idly and watch our leaders and elders being endangered, shamed and humiliated in this way. It is the governments job to keep us all safe and secure and they are failing in that duty. I call on the President and our security agencies to effect the expeditious and immediate release of Chief Olu Falae. “They must rescue him from these vagabonds and vandals as soon as possible before things get out of hand. Let it be clearly understood that if anything happens to him and if he doesn’t come home hale and hearty we will hold the Federal Government responsible and there will be consequences. By Chioma Gabriel First daughter of late multi-billionaire diplomat and businessman, Antonio Oladeinde Fernandez, has shed more light on the personality of the late billionaire diplomat, dismissing allega-tions of mystery being built around him. The one-time commissioner under Fashola’s administration in Lagos State, Mrs Teju Philips, said her late multi-billionaire father was born into the royal Olumegbon family in Lagos. “My late father was a typical Lagosian, born and brought up at Isale Eko, Lagos. You may say the younger generation doesn’t know about him but a lot of people do know him. He was raised in Lagos in Isale Eko here and he worked in Nigeria in the Ministry of Works in the early years. “My father lived a normal life as a diplomat and that made him a global citizen. That was why he worked with the governments of Angola and Mozambique and represented Central Africa Republic in the United Nations. You don’t call a man who attained that height a mystery man or a very private person,”she said. Commenting on her father’s lifestyle.” Further elaborating, Mrs Philips said: “Besides, as a Yoruba, he worked very hard and prayed hard too. You cannot excuse that traditional owambe lifestyle from him because he was rooted in the traditional lifestyle of the Yoruba and believed so much in the culture and tradition of the Yorubas. “Before he began life as a diplomat, he used to have a company in Nigeria that was producing fridges and deep freezers and he was never discriminatory. He worked with both white-men and black-men. “He was not the ‘away-away’ person many painted him to be. He fraternised with many Nigerian presidents and presidents of other countries, although he was never a politician.” Recalling her early days with her father, Mrs Teju Philips said her father did the traditional things as a Lagosian before work kept him very busy. “He did all the egungun masquerade things and the Eyo masquarade festivals here at Isale Eko before he started his work life. My father actually had moments that he threw back his head and laughed. He loved family life and the people around him but always expected things to be done properly. My father would tell you not to denigrate anybody because ‘nobody’ of yesterday could become ‘somebody’ tomorrow.” Was he strict? “Well, you can say that again. He was a strict disciplinarian and you wouldn’t appear before him looking tattered or casual. You must be prim and proper if you were female and your hair must be neatly packed and bonded. A female must appear before my father in skirt suit and healthy shoes. A woman must not wear trousers and as my father’s daughter, I never wore trousers. Even now, I find it difficult to wear trousers because he never allowed that.” Children “My father loved all his children. We are nine and we all resemble him character wise. As his child, you must be firm and very strong in character like him. These are the virtues he held sacred in life. I read Accounting and as a student, woe betide me should he call and I wasn’t in the library studying. Love of jewellery My father could not call you and you tell him you were in the dormitory. The days he caught me in the dormitory, I had to come home to explain to him in person why I had to be in the dormitory at a perceived odd time and after I had convinced him, he would take me back to the school personally. “My father loved jewellery and many of his children do. But if you have to use them, you must use quality jewellery and not cheap looking ones. If you must wear sunglasses, you must use very good mature frames, not cheap looking or funny-looking ones.” Membership of Ogboni fraternity? I told you his life was rooted in the culture and tradition of the Yorubas. He was a traditional man to the core and promoted the Yoruba culture. He was a Christian and Catholic. His name was Antonio and that is a catholic name. He will be buried by Christians and as a Catholic. Exotic life of private jets, yacht, wealth, burial This is not the time to talk about that. We are in mourning. My father will most likely be buried in Nigeria. I spoke with him the day he died and we discussed family issues. Signature sunglasses They were medicated glasses. His eyes could not take the bright lights and so he must use those dark glasses like mine. I think it’s a genetic thing because I too use medicated dark glasses. No, they were not for fashion and there was nothing else to them. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/antonio-oladeinde-fernandez-life-as-daughter-of-billionaire-bizman-teju-philips/ Cc: Lalasticlacla |

By Gbenga Olarinoye Osogbo—The contest for the Ooni stool has taken a dangerous dimension as a prominent figure of the Giesi ruling house, Prince Adekanye Aderibigbe, yesterday alleged threat to his life over his insistence that only a credible and a true prince from the ruling house would be presented to the kingmakers for confirmation. Prince Aderibigbe, who spoke at the meeting of the ruling house held at Agbedegbede Lane, More, Ife, also assured that Giesi will present a credible candidate that would be acceptable to all to the kingmakers. The former university don, who was flanked by members of the committee and sub-committee saddled with the responsibility of verifying names submitted as contestants from Giesi, said he had been repeatedly threatened because he insisted that those who are not from the ruling house but now parading themselves as one, would be disappointed because they would not even be considered. “A man has been parading himself as a member of Giesi Ruling House and newsmen have been echoing it. He is not a member of this house. He is not a member of Giesi. “Please quote me. I have been threatened over my stand but I am ready for whatever will happen. I am one of the oldest in this compound and we know ourselves. He is not even a member of any ruling house in Ile-Ife. I have been threatened but I am waiting. I will not say God is on my side but I am on God’s side.’’ He also disowned list of contestants said to have been screened by the ruling house, stressing that only the secretary of the ruling house, Prince Ropo Ogunwusi, is empowered to relate with newsmen on the activities of the ruling house. Asked if he feared government interference might come in during the selection process, Aderibigbe, said: “We harbour no such fear. We have started the process and we know an Ooni that will be acceptable will emerge at the end of the day. “Interference of any kind will not happen. Whenever we want to pick our candidate, all of you will know and the kingmakers will after that take over. I did not say Ifa oracle will not have a say but Ifa will only choose from the candidates presented to it and Giesi will present a credible person that will occupy the throne.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/ooni-succession-prince-alleges-threat-to-life/ |

By Emma Amaize HIS Royal Majesty, HRM, Benjamin Ikenchukwu Keagborekuze I, Dein of Agbor Kingdom in Delta State, showed some radicalism and clairvoyance during my recent visit to his palace when he declared that one of the things that turns him off was seeing Nigerians openly castigate themselves, leaders and country. His words: “I think here in Nigeria, we like to talk about negative things too much and when you talk about the negative too much, you will be surprised that you encourage the negative to happen. This is a great nation, and we have many things to celebrate; let us talk about the positive things in life and celebrate them.” Monarch’s wise counsel The world’s youngest crowned monarch, widely- travelled and Officer in The Order of Belgium, said the world was watching Nigeria and the off- putting comments of the people about their leaders, especially in the social media, was doing the nation more harm than good internationally. It was a royal admonition to Nigerians to tame their tongues. You would, therefore, imagine the royal father’s consternation when the Chairman of a Special Committee set up by the National Executive Council, NEC, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, outrageously declared, some days later, that Nigerians would pelt former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and his fellow looters with stone if they found out that he spent N140 billion on consultancy alone on the 2nd Niger Bridge project. Scandalous: Oshiomhole’s outburst was shocking as it was public knowledge before his bombshell that the total cost of the bridge procured as a Public Private Partnership Project under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer, DBFOT, model is N108 billion. The posers are how consultancy alone on such a project would gulp N140 billion? Where did the governor get his information? Did he crosscheck before going to town with it? However, mother monkey says she can only deny for the unborn child in her belly because she did not know if the child on her back stretched hands and collected somebody’s banana while she was passing through the market. Missiles: Before you could say Jack Robinson, former Minister of Niger-Delta, Elder Godsday Orubebe, last Tuesday, fired at Oshiomhole, describing him as an ingrate and Villa sycophant, quick to switch allegiance to whoever is in power. Evidently, Orubebe was miffed at Oshiomhole’s negative comments about Jonathan and his administration. He asserted: “It is unfortunate that Oshiomhole, who should talk like a governor, is today biting the fingers that fed him and seems to have forgotten in a hurry that he once cried around the former President for assistance and recognition.” Daring the lion in its den: Apparently on a familiar terrain, Oshiomhole hit back 24 hours later, describing Orubebe as a clown, who was afraid of President Muhammadu Buhari’s planned probe of several billions of naira squandered on the East-West Road and on the amnesty programme under Orubebe’s watch as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs. In a statement by his spokesperson, Peter Okhiria, he said the “incompetence” of people like Mr. Orubebe contributed to the dismal failure of the administration of former President, Goodluck Jonathan. Orubebe replied immediately, slamming the governor as a ‘garage boy’ and somebody suffering from chronic diarrhoea of the mouth, which explains why he has lately been misleading Nigerians. He said the governor’s illiteracy was beyond human comprehension. As if waiting for such diversion, Oshiomhole exploded again from Benin. This time, he said Orubebe was an elevated thug: “Orubebe is no more than a common tout and political thug, too illiterate to know the difference between a “garage” and a “motor park,” recruited by his paymasters as Deputy Director-General of the 2015 Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organization, and agent provocateur to truncate the last election. “But for the maturity and sound leadership orientation of Professor Atahiru Jega, Nigeria would still have been reeking in utter anarchy and political protestations.” Surrender: The verbal war continued at the weekend with Orubebe saying that he would no longer reply Oshiomhole anymore because it had become apparent that the governor was empty. He said: “You can see the kind of governor we have in our country. My response is simple: I am through with him. I will not talk about him again. On this issue, I am through with him; I have no business with such a governor, who has no brain. “I thought he was more knowledgeable on the issues of governance.” Backlash: That Oshiomhole took Jonathan to the cleaners is not in doubt, but it has become obvious that the 2nd Niger Bridge project may run into difficulty if the matter was not properly handled. Director General, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, ICRC, Aminu Dako, in a statement, said Federal Government was scrutinizing the contract cost and conditions surrounding the 2nd Niger Bridge and that President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the Ministry of Works to review the cost of the project. He also said the Commission had identified some errors in the project, but the bottom line of his statement was that Federal Government had suspended work on the project. Dako skirted around issues like the commission having to give certificate of compliance; communities around the areas clamouring that they have not been paid compensation; Onitsha Traditional Council complaining that it was not well-represented in the transaction and all that. The directives and policy frameworks came just the same time that Oshiomhole went public with the dance. Putting records straight Contrary to Dako’s position, Managing Director of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, NSIA, Mr. Uche Orji, expressed shock over the allegation by Oshiomhole that N140 billion was spent on consultancy for the bridge. He said that only $2.21 million dollars (about N340 million, using the then exchange rate of N154/$1) was spent on consultancy for the project. According to him, the cost of consultancy for the bridge was less than one percent of the cost of the project, which was way below global standards. A document made available to Niger Delta Voice indicated that “the project was initially estimated to cost N108 billion excluding duties and VAT. If duties and VAT are included, the project will cost N117.9 billion. “This was equivalent to $700 million at the then prevailing exchange rate of N154/$. The final project cost would naturally be affected by exchange rate fluctuations and other variables.” Mr. Orji said that Federal Government made a commitment of N30 billion out of which it has released N18.3 billion so far, of which N10.4 billion was disbursed on early construction works. On the governor’s allegation of non- performance, he said a lot of piling work had been done on the project site, located some distance from the current bridge. Unnecessary distraction Currently, there is outrage not just among South- Easterners, but other Nigerians that instead of facilitating the completion of the important project, Nigerian leaders are playing politics with it to score cheap political points. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/oshiomhole-orubebe-crossfire-im-sorry-did-dein-of-agbor-take-notice/ |

By Dapo Akinrefon, Charles Kumolu & Gbenga Oke THE Presidency’s denial that a campaign docu- ment, entitled My Covenant With Nigerians, originated from All Progressives Con-gress, APC, was greeted with angry reactions yesterday. Many, who spoke to Vanguard expressed disappointment at the denial, describing it as a betrayal of confidence. The document, which had gone viral on the social media, detailed electioneering promises purportedly made by the President. Buhari insensitve—Ezeife Former governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, said: “President Buhari has very serious problems. The most worrisome is what seems like a design to scatter this country through his appointments. “Whether he is spending 100 or 200 days is irrelevant. Where are his ministers? Where is the representation on the basis of the geo-political zones? Junaid Mohammed stoked the fire by saying that President Buhari does not owe Ndigbo anything. “By denying the South-East the position of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the President acted in an insensitive manner. “We have six geo-political zones in the country, but the North-East has dominated the appointments made so far.” APC’s greatest deceiver—Babatope Former Minister of Transport, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, said: “I hope it is beginning to dawn on Nigerians now that APC is the greatest deceiver we have in this country. “That the party is now denying the document that emanated from them during the electioneering campaigns is very unfortunate and in due time we will respond.” It’s a swindling of electorate—Afenifere Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, described the denial as the highest level of perfidy. Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin, said: “It is what I will call the swindling of the electorate; it is also what I call obtaining under false pretence. We saw all the promises flying around and APC never disowned those promises. “They erected billboards all around major cities. I was thinking they would say it was because they met a different thing on the ground. But to tell us that those things were not promised is the highest level of perfidy. It is most unfortunate. “That is the price the electorate would pay for not asking questions.” Betrayal of trust—Shettima On his part, National President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Alhaji Yerima Shettima said: “It is one thing for politicians to go to the field and make promises, and another thing for them to implement those promses. “However, we should not be in a hurry. They have their reasons. Perhaps, it is as a result of the challenges they are facing. “Of course, they are aware of these problems. But I think it amounts to a betrayal to tell Nigerians what you would do and you fail to do it.” Breach of social contract—Ajulo National Secretary of the Labour Party, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, said: “The ethnic slant in the appointments so far is just too obvious, and we cannot afford to just ignore these ominous signs. “Do the praise singers of the President expect Nigerians to fold their hands and watch or join them in cheering the President as he tows the dangerous path of sectionalism and nepotism? “It is uncharitable, breach of social contract and utter deceit and conspiracy against Nigerians for Buhari to deny the knowledge of these campaign promises.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/ezeife-afenifere-arewa-youths-berate-president-over-campaign-promises-denial/ |

The Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders on Saturday took a swipe at the former Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, describing his administration as draconian and anti-people. The activist group was reacting to Fashola’s condemnation of its call on President Muhammadu Buhari not to consider the ex- governor for appointment for his alleged mismanagement of state funds. CACOL said the Fashola-led administration was engulfed in several controversies which could not be overlooked. Fashola had come under fire after the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency posted a report on its website, stating that N78.3m was paid to a firm, Info Access Plus Limited, for the upgrade of his website, www.tundefashola.com, through the Office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor. The ex-governor had last week defended the decision by his government to spend N78.3m on the upgrade of the website in a five-page letter he personally signed, in which he admitted that the money was actually spent on his website. Fashola also berated CACOL, in his letter titled ‘When you wrestle with a pig, the pig gets happy and you get dirty,’ for dragging him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and for calling on President Buhari not to give him a political appointment. Fashola said, “I cannot conclude without responding to the crusade of CACOL and their ilk seeking my prosecution on allegations that have no proof and writing pre-emptive letters to the Presidency. “In case they are unaware, I am not looking for a job. I expect them to know that allegations of wrongdoing are not resolved without evidence, neither are they resolved in press conferences.” However, the Executive Chairmain of CACOL, in a statement titled, ‘We Don’t Mind Wrestling With The Pig As Long As It Produces The Pork,’ on Saturday, said if the former governor could justify the cost of his personal website, no matter what he used it for, then there might be many more shenanigans to be unearthed by the relevant anti-graft agencies. He said, “The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines a “pig” as an unpleasant or offensive person; a person who is dirty or greedy. Based on this premise, leaders who deliberately run elitist, oppressive and draconian government can only be described by no other name, but pigs. “A government that causes so much hardship to the largest stratum of the socio-economic ladder, whereas it engages in obscene affluence all in the name of white elephant projects that have no direct bearing on the suffering Lagosians, is nothing but a pig. “It will be foolhardy for a man who requires pork to say he wouldn’t wrestle with a pig. How does he intend to get it? After all it has been said, ‘No willing pig provides pork; whoever desires pork wrestles the pig down for it!’ Adeniran asked of what use was a N78.3m- website when several other developmental needs of people in Lagos were begging for attention. Adenira further said, “Basically, what concerns us more is the issue of suspected corruption embedded in the award and execution of contracts in the regime of Babatunde Fashola, as illuminated by the award of this N78.3m website contract. “Every IT person CACOL has contacted put an over-bloated estimate of the cost of the website at about N6m. We are not surprised that a contract that could have cost N6m could be ballooned to N78.3m, because that is a trademark of Mr. Fashola’s administration. “The website contract is an eye opener and lending credence to the allegations of the ‘True Face of Lagos’ where most of the contracts awarded before 2010 were said to have been immorally inflated by the regime of Babatunde Raji Fashola.” http://www.punchng.com/news/n78-3m-website-cacol-replies-fashola-insists-on-allegation/ 2 Likes 2 Shares |

A former Plateau State governor, Jonah Jang, has faulted a report by the Sonni Tyoden-led transition committee which put the state debt at N222.3bn. Jang described the report as untrue, claiming that he left debts and liabilities of N103.9bn The former governor also disputed the claim that the siting of projects by his administration was lopsided. Tyoden, who is the deputy governor of the state, had, while presenting the report of his committee, said Jang got N525.35bn as statutory allocation from the Federation Account for the eight years he was in office, but spent a total of N747.65 and left a debt of N222.3bn. In a statement signed in Jos on Friday by a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Mrs. Olivia Dazyam, Jang said the debt figure paraded by the committee “was mischievously manufactured,” stressing that the comprehensive breakdown of the debt was well documented in the handover notes and urged the committee to study the handover notes properly. The former AG, who described the committee’s report as “a clear distortion and manipulation of facts aimed at personal vendetta,” said “a quick look at the compositions of the committees revealed that members were deliberately selected and made up of persons that have grudges against the immediate past administration.” While listing projects executed by the Jang’s administration across the three senatorial zones, Dazyam denied that the immediate past administration was selective in the distribution of facilities and services in the state. She advised the All Progressives Congress-led government in the state to focus on development and stop picking holes in Jang’s administration. Dazyyam said, “The bar of governance in Plateau State has been raised by Jang and the people now use the performance as a yardstick to measure all other former governors.” http://www.punchng.com/news/jang-faults-transition-committee-report-on-plateau-debt/ |

A former Governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda,
has dragged a Chieftain of the All Progressives
Congress in the State, Alhaji Sani Shehu, before
the Bauchi State High Court 9, for alleged
defamatory utterances against his personality
and his administration.
He is seeking for N10bn as damages.
Counsel to the plaintiff (Yuguda), Mr. Okechukwu
Nwaeze, who disclosed this to journalists in
Bauchi on Friday, said the former governor filed
the suit before the court seeking N10bn
damages in an action against Sani Mallam over
his allegations that Yuguda was corrupt and
fraudulent during his tenure as the governor of
the state.
Okechukwu said the plaintiff complained of the
APC chieftain’s reckless and defamatory public
comments about his personality and
administration on two radio stations: Ray power
FM and the Bauchi Radio Corporation.
The counsel alleged that Mallam, who was a
former All Nigeria Peoples Party Chairman in the
state, “accused Yuguda of woeful performance,
excessive looting of public treasury, name-calling
such as election rigger and manipulator. All
these statements tempered with the reputation
and personality of the former governor.
“It is not right to persecute people in the media.
If the man is guilty of any fraud, the defendant
should provide the proof or otherwise focus on
his political activities.
“Our prayers are that the court should issue an
order for the defendant to tender an apology in
two national dailies and two online papers. The
defendant should also be banned from featuring
on such political programmes in media houses
and should pay the sum of N10bn damages to
the plaintiff.”
The Presiding Judge, Justice Muazu Abubakar,
adjourned the case to October 6, 2015 for
mentioning. http://www.punchng.com/news/yuguda-sues-apc-chieftain-for-n10bn-over-defamation/ |

Some Nigerians have flayed the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, for the sacking of six workers in the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, including a secondary school teacher, for allegedly setting an offensive examination question. The sacked workers include two Grade Level 17 officers, former Director, Education Support Services, Mrs. Folashade Oresegun; former Director, Curriculum Development and Evaluation, Mr. Rotimi Odunsi; and a Grade Level 16 officer, Mr. Majekodunmi Oluwole. Others are a Grade Level 10 officer, Mr. E.O. Asegbe; a Grade Level 8 officer, Taylor Damilola; and an English Language teacher in Mayflower Secondary School, Ikenne, Mr. Joel Adegbenro. It was reported that the sacking of both Oresegun and Odunsi had been converted to compulsory retirement, while the four others were summarily dismissed. The PUNCH had reported that their “offence” might be connected with a comprehension passage in the English Language examination conducted by the ministry for the Unified Examination in Public Secondary Schools for the third term of the 2014/2015 academic session, where pupils were asked to summarise a comprehension passage on policy defect on education. The governor’s action has, however, caused uproar among many Nigerians, who described the sacking as “undemocratic.” A PUNCH commentator, simply identified as Odeleke, said the governor’s action did not reflect good leadership. “Amosun is a dictator in the making. The All Progressives Congress should call him to order before he turns the state to his fiefdom,” Odeleke said. Meanwhile, the teacher sacked alongside the five others, Adegbenro, has declined to comment on his dismissal. Adegbenro was the examiner in the English Language examination conducted by the ministry for Unified Examination in public Secondary Schools for the third term 2014/2015 academic session. One of our correspondents met him on Friday at the Abeokuta office of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools and sought his reaction on the dismissal, but he declined. He said politely, “Please, I don’t want to say anything on the issue. Thank you.” However, Chairman, ASUSS, Ogun State chapter, Mr. Akeem Lasisi, urged the state government to have mercy on the sacked workers. He said, “As you are aware, five officers of the state’s Ministry of Education were involved and a teacher from a secondary school in Ogun State.” http://www.punchng.com/news/offensive-question-amosun-flayed-as-sacked-teacher-keeps-mum/

No fewer than 570 key members of the Peoples
Democratic Party in Bayelsa State are planning
to dump the party for the All Progressives
Congress on Saturday (today).
But an association within the PDP in the state
called the Unity Group begged the aggrieved
members to reconsider the move.
The group made the appeal at a news
conference in Yenagoa on Friday against the
backdrop of mass defections of prominent
members of the party to the APC.
Addressing journalists on Friday, Coordinator,
PDP Unity Group, Mrs. Marie Ebikake, urged the
aggrieved members not to defect to another
party.
Ebikake, a former Commissioner for Transport in
the state, who was recently relieved of her
position because of her alleged closeness to the
former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, said
the group was committed to the unity and
resolution of the crisis confronting the PDP.
She said, “We cannot deceive ourselves. Some of
our people have vowed to go to the APC. We
want to use this medium to appeal to them to
return. The home they have built, they cannot
allow it to collapse.
“We are a group in the Bayelsa State PDP that is
committed to the unity of our party, particularly
after the outcome of the recent general
elections.
“We believe that losing power at the centre after
16 years should unite rather than divide us. We
salute the commitment of our members and
supporters in the last 16 years.
“However, we are not oblivious of the most
recent defections from our great party in Bayelsa
State to the opposition APC. We cannot also
pretend to be unperturbed of the planned
defection of our esteemed members on Saturday
(today) in Yenagoa.
“There is no doubt that some of these defectors
are men and women of high political substance
and pedigree who have contributed to our past
achievements.” http://www.punchng.com/news/pdp-begs-as-members-plan-defection-today/ |

ABUJA – Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to dredge the Escravos Basin to facilitate the berthing of bigger vessels at the Warri Port. The governor, who briefed State House Correspondents after a meeting with the president, stated expanding the ports would be of economic advantage to the south south and south east and north central zones especially with the resumption of activities at the Warri Refinery. He said “We came to thank Mr. President for the appointment of the GMD of NNPC. Mr. Ibe Kachikwu who you know is from Delta State even if you know he got that appointment by merit he is still a Deltan. And we thought we should appreciate that. “Then beyond that, we are all aware of the Gas City Project in Delta State at Ogidigben, in the Escravos and we thought that we needed to bring it to the knowledge of Mr. President that that project, which is a public private partnership (PPP) project, is something that would create a lot of jobs for Nigerians and thought that there was the need for that project to be given some strength and we believe it is in the interest of Nigeria and Delta state that that project is carried out. “Beyond that too, you are also aware that the Warri Port has come alive and even with the refinery that has started, the port activity has improved, but there is a problem because of the Escravos basin. The contention that has been going on for some years. It is quite some problem, and because of that, we have a low drought. We believe that the dredging of the Escravos bar would help to improve the port activities and improve the size of cargos that come into the Warri port and which very personal to the rest of the South-South, the South East and the North Central and we think that it will turn to an economic hub, if we are able to dredge the Escravos bar.” The Governor also stated that he also appealed to President Buhari not to abandon the second Niger bridge which he said would decongest traffic along Onitsha road. “We also reminded Mr. President about the second Niger bridge which is also another PPP arrangement and the need for the federal government to ensure that, that PPP arrangement is strengthened. Though work is currently ongoing but we needed to ensure that it is brought to the knowledge of Mr. President, and he has told us that he is receiving information about that and we hope that activities in the field of the second Niger bridge is heightened in the next few weeks. “There is also an intersection of road between Benin through Asaba to Onitsha, by Igbuzu road. It is quite problematic for us. Sometimes you can experience traffic gridlock in that place; sometimes, you find out that the accident rate on that road is much and we thought too that the best way forward is to have an interchange at the point and being a federal government road, we do need to seek for Presidential approval even if it may have to be at our own cost and that was brought to the attention of Mr. President”, he said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/dredging-of-escravos-basin-will-be-of-economic-importance-to-s-south-seast-okowa/ |

Former FIFA vice president Jeffrey
Webb pleaded not guilty in US court
Saturday in connection with a massive
international corruption scandal, with
his release set at a $ 10 million bond.
He is the first former official from
soccer' s governing body to appear in a
New York federal court in connection
with the sweeping investigation by US
prosecutors that has rocked the sporting
world.
The 50 - year - old dual British and
Cayman Islands citizen has surrendered
his passports to the FBI and must
remain within a 20 - mile (32 - kilometer )
radius of the courthouse in Brooklyn.
He is the only one of seven FIFA officials
arrested in Zurich not to contest
extradition and was flown earlier this
week to the United States , where he lives
with his wife and their young son .
His physician wife, a US citizen , her
pensioner grandmother and his in - laws
signed his bond papers in court. Six
other members of Webb' s extended
family will also sign his bond
application.
In all, 14 defendants stand accused of
soliciting and receiving more than $ 150
million in bribes and kickbacks across
24 years.
US Attorney General Loretta Lynch
unveiled the 47 - count indictment in
May , charging soccer officials and
marketing executives with racketeering ,
wire fraud and money laundering
conspiracies.
Dressed in a crisp white shirt, blue tie
and navy suit, Webb strode into court,
giving a little wave to his family in the
gallery and shaking hands with his
lawyer at the start of the nearly 50 -
minute hearing .
He spoke respectfully in an authoritative
voice to the magistrate , replying "yes ,
your honor " and " yes, I do" to her
questions.
Kisses wife
At the end, he kissed his wife, and
hugged her parents and grandmother
after they signed his bond papers . Webb
was led back into custody and his family
left without him, making no comment .
Besides serving as FIFA vice president,
Webb was president of the Cayman
Islands Football Association , as well as
CONCACAF, which oversees the sport in
North and Central America and the
Caribbean .
He is accused of racketeering , money
laundering and wire fraud charges.
Prosecutors allege that Webb was bribed
more than $ 7 million by sports
marketing outfit Traffic Sports USA and
its then - president Aaron Davidson in
exchange for contracts granting
exclusive rights to soccer tournaments .
Davidson is out on bail and discussing a
plea deal with prosecutors .
Webb' s refusal to contest extradition
suggests that he too may be keen to
negotiate a deal . His lawyer, Edward
O' Callaghan, made no comment after
leaving court Saturday .
Six other FIFA officials wanted by the
United States - - all from South America
or the CONCACAF region - - have not yet
agreed to be extradited.
The assets put up to guarantee the $ 10
million bond offered a tantalizing
glimpse of the wealth that Webb has
accumulated , but also the good faith of
his extended family .
They include 10 properties owned by
him, his wife, her parents, an uncle and
three of his cousins. Other items put up
to guarantee the sum were three cars ,
watches and jewelry.
Electronic monitoring
He will be confined to home detention
in an apartment to be approved by the
FBI , and subject to electronic
monitoring.
Aside from medical emergencies, he will
be allowed out only to attend court
hearings , meet his lawyer and to attend
church, all with the prior, written
approval of the FBI .
Webb will also bear the costs of a
private security company that will guard
him around the clock , including being
posted outside the door of private
meetings with his lawyer.
The terms of his release prohibit any
contact with his co- defendants and co-
conspirators, CONCACAF , FIFA or any of
the sports marketing companies listed in
the indictment.
His wife has also surrendered her US
passport to the FBI . The court heard that
she had taken a year off work since the
couple ' s son was born , but had worked
as a consultant since his arrest . The
arrests in Switzerland ignited an
unprecedented crisis at FIFA, with the
body' s president Sepp Blatter ultimately
agreeing to stand down .
Blatter , 79 , has denied any wrongdoing ,
saying he bears no responsibility for
any misdeeds committed by his deputies.
On Monday , FIFA ' s executive committee is expected to set out the timetable to determine the election for Blatter ' s replacement. Commentators , and even sources close to Blatter , have not ruled out the prospect of the embattled FIFA president reversing his decision to resign and standing for re - election. http://m.chinapost.com.tw/sports/2015/07/19/441103/FIFA-ex-vice.htm |

Chuks Okocha in Abuja The owner of the company ACT. Technologies Limited, Sani Musa, which printed the Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) has been arrested by the officials of the Department of State Security (DSS). No reason was given for his arrest. He was arrested Tuesday at a private location in Abuja. THISDAY gathered that his arrest might not be unconnected with the allegation that he is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and that he alone has the code to the smart card reader. A source close to THISDAY said that his arrest by the DSS is aimed at solving some of the controversies surrounding the Smart Card Reader and make him incommunicado throughout the presidential election. On Wednesday, the spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign organisation, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, called for his arrest, accusing him of being part of the plot to rig the election in favour of APC. According to Fani-Kayode, "Our concerns stem from the fact that the moving spirit and a major shareholder and board member of the company that supplied the card reader system and machines to INEC is not only a friend of but also an ardent and keen supporter of General Muhammadu Buhari and the APC. That man's name is Sani Musa and he is indeed the main force behind the company. The company's name is Act Technologies Ltd. and the Chairman of the company is one Engineer SK Danladi. "How and why INEC would give the contract to supply the card readers to a fanatical APC supporter and to a man whose other company was officially blacklisted by INEC a couple of years ago for sharp practices, needs to be explained. Sani Musa has expressed his undying support for the APC and General Buhari and his hatred and virulent opposition to the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan openly andpublicly on his Facebook wall. Some of his comments on Facebook read as follows: 'I stand with him (Buhari) for whatever reason' and 'Imagine the kind of people given spaces in our nation’s news tabloids.’ ‘Hoodlums are having field day in Nigeria since the inception of GEJ’s administration. Mad men, hooligans and vultures have taken over decency of the society. May Allah save us from the torments of this (sic) rascals and expose their intentions on our nation state be it the Boko Haram, killer militants or by extension those in authority with wicked intentions-Amen,” ACT. Technologies Limited, according to the electronic payments obtained from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed that over N2.6 billion was paid to the Nigerian company for the production and supplies of over 68.8 million PVCs within a period of seven months. It was further gathered that the 68.8 million PVCs were expected to be produced at a unit cost of N65 per PVC. THISDAY gathered that the Electronic Payment Mandate for the production of the PVCs were paid through two banks – an Islamic Bank, JAIZ Bank and the First City Monument Bank (FCMB) between 2013 and 2014, an indication that the firm charged with the production have been fully paid, yet it is yet to supply in full part of the 68.8 million PVCs for the election. According to the payment mandate made available to THISDAY, INEC on February 14 paid the sum of N489,937,500 to ACT.Technologies Limited as part payment for the production of the PVCs. The money was paid through JAIZ Bank. In the same manner, another lodgment of N130 million was paid to the same company on August 13, 2013, while another sum of N585 million was paid to ACT. Technologies Limited. On July 16, 2013, the sum of N585 million was paid to the same company through the FCMB, while on June 11, 2013, another N293,962.500 was paid to the company through the Islamic bank. N234 million was specifically paid to the same company, ACT. Technologies Limited, for the supply of 40 million PVCs through JAIZ Bank on January 24, 2014 and the last batch of N590,871,418 was paid on February19, 2014. All the electronic payment mandates were signed by the Secretary of INEC, Augusta Ogakwu, Hajiya Salamatu Ibrahim who is the Director of Finance and the Director of Budget, T.W. Afannga. According to an INEC source, “Despite the full payment of the contract money for the supplies of the PVCs, the batch of the voter cards are yet to be produced, whereas all the money has been paid as far back as 2014.” Meanwhile, the Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, has called on politicians to cultivate the habit of playing politics without bitterness, ahead of tomorrow's, presidential election. He made the call yesterday in Abuja at the PDP National Christian Praise Rally for Successful 2015 Elections, saying that this was critical to ensure peaceful polls. He also called on politicians to embrace Christ and to play politics with the fear of God, adding that though it was termed a dirty game, politics could be made clean by God-fearing politicians. He expressed the need for all to focus on God who gives inspiration to all mankind and to continue praying to Him for peace upon the nation, before, during and after the elections. ``It is what you ask God with conviction that you will receive, as the nation cries to God to bring peace to the country with conviction, He will show himself strong,’’ Secondus said. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/pvc-manufacturer-sani-musa-arrested-detained-by-dss/205215/

Babygal4eva: it's possible. Some tenants live in a house and the only person they deal with is the agent, and besides, some landlords don't even want anything to do with their tenants as long as he doesn't default in payment. Their agent handles everything. |

What would you do if you were in this man's situation, be honest. A man rented a house and moved in with his family. After 2yrs his rent was increased from 400,000 to 500,000, he didn't complain because he likes the house. The following year he couldn't come up with the money and the agent was on his neck, the wife saw what the husband was passing through and decided to go borrow the money so that the husband will pay back later, the husband was indeed very happy. He paid back the cash when he got it. 2yrs later the house rent was increased to 700,000 and this man became upset. So he begged the agent to introduce him to the landlord so that he could talk with him but the agent bluntly refused. The man decided to do an underground investigation to uncover who the landlord is. The revelation of his investigation really shook him. The house belongs to his wife! My question is as the man what will you do? And as the woman what will you say to your husband? Let's discuss this matter together. |

“Re-elect Jonathan for United Nigeria“: Shagari’s Alleged Letter to Muhammadu Buhari Written by Obinna Akukwe The allegedly controversial letter written by second republic President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari had continued to cause scare within the political gladiators in the North West. Sources within the Presidency had given the Leadership of Igbo Mandate Congress (IMC) a copy of Shagari’s alleged letter to the Presidential Candidate of the opposition party, General Muhammadu Buhari on the 12th of January, 2015, the day Igbo leaders under Ohanaeze sneaked into Aso Rock for the first batch of endorsement of Jonathan’s re-election bid. However, efforts by IMC leaders in Sokoto to get Shagari’s views on the circulating letter proved abortive as his aides pleaded that the old man be left off the hate filled Buhari-Jonathan campaigns. However, events at Shagari’s 90th Birthday where he reportedly endorsed Jonathan in secret and the grumblings of APC members in Sokoto State who accuses him of working against Northern interests may have lent credence to the letter. This letter being circulated among few northern elites as a ground for Jonathan’s re- election bid is gradually gaining acceptance in Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi axis. However, those opposed to Shagari’s views as expressed in the alleged letter pointed at the constant humiliation of the Sokoto born Speaker of Nigeria’s Parliament Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal by President Jonathan and the strong rumors that a Jonathan second tenure will dethrone Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar as the Sultan of Sokoto and replace him with the current NSA, Sambo Dasuki. However, APC Chieftains in Sokoto told the leadership of IMC that the elder statesman can never write such letter and that the vengeance in the said letter is not in line with the spirit of Islam. Shagari had earlier indicated his support for Jonathan in his forward to a book titled "Jonathan-A Photographic Rise to The Presidency’ being circulated among PDP faithful where he said that “I sincerely could never have imagined that in my life time, under constitutional rule, with a deep and broad mandate, a zoologist from Bayelsa, one of our youngest states, could rise to become Commander-in-Chief. “There is no better indicator that, while much remains to be achieved, our beloved Nigeria is slowly but surely maturing politically. Almost unwittingly, we are strengthening our democratic practice. And we must acknowledge and be thankful of the fact that Jonathan has taken it upon himself to diligently promote one Nigeria not only in words but in action.” Below is Shagari’s Alleged Letter to Muhammadu Buhari Causing Stir among Political Elites in Sokoto. My brother, you have contested the Presidential elections 3 times in this country and in all these times, you have never asked me or my people at Shagari village to support your bid. It is very obvious why you can't do that. You don't have the courage after what you did to me. You truncated democracy with a dastardly coup and took away power from me. You humiliated me and made me to suffer, and you took away my opportunity to RULE Nigeria. You said you do not want democracy in Nigeria. The same democracy you truncated, you are fighting hard to get with desperation and diabolical power. You have entered into unholy alliance with some known elements of disunity in the south but let me warn you. You will suffer hard in the hands of Tinubu and his political merchants who will use and dump you as they did to Nuhu. In 2011, you cried publicly when you lost election, and you made provocative and inciting statements that plunged this country into untoward unrest. You provoked our hot-blooded youths with war cries which erupted into post-election violence, that brought Boko Haram into existence, over 500 innocent Nigerians died instantly, most of them youth corpers deployed from one of the unifying agencies of this country. Personally, I do not have a problem with your ambition. It is your arrogance that bothers me. If you cannot summon the courage to ask me and my family to vote for you because you know we would not, why do you think Nigerians would look kindly on your past record of destroying a progressing democratic institutions painfully put in place by some respected fathers of this nations like Awolowo and Azikiwe. No my brother. It is time to wake up from your delusion and do the needful if you still have some conscience. I am not writing this to you with vengeance intention. I am a practicing Muslim and we leave matters of vengeance to Allah. I write to you as a Nigerian, your brother and a statesman who is deeply concerned. Quit the presidential race now and save this country from the dangling sword of Damocles being menacingly wield by the crooks that surround you. This elections is not about you or President Goodluck Jonathan. It is about the unity of Nigeria which can only be assured by being fair. By this I mean, being fair to the people of Niger Delta. We can only do this by either re-electing Goodluck or substitute him with any of his kinsmen from the South-South as that can only count fair for a people who are entitled to 8 years in the office of the President. For the elders council in the north, we have come to the conclusion to work towards realizing that fairness. 4 years more is not eternity. It is not too much of a concession for us to make to move Nigeria forward as one indivisible and united country under one God. May Allah open your mind to see reason. God bless Nigeria Alhaji Shehu Shagari (GCFR) |
