“Re-elect Jonathan for United Nigeria“: Shagari’s Alleged Letter to Muhammadu Buhari Written by Obinna Akukwe The allegedly controversial letter written by second republic President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari had continued to cause scare within the political gladiators in the North West. Sources within the Presidency had given the Leadership of Igbo Mandate Congress (IMC) a copy of Shagari’s alleged letter to the Presidential Candidate of the opposition party, General Muhammadu Buhari on the 12th of January, 2015, the day Igbo leaders under Ohanaeze sneaked into Aso Rock for the first batch of endorsement of Jonathan’s re-election bid. However, efforts by IMC leaders in Sokoto to get Shagari’s views on the circulating letter proved abortive as his aides pleaded that the old man be left off the hate filled Buhari-Jonathan campaigns. However, events at Shagari’s 90th Birthday where he reportedly endorsed Jonathan in secret and the grumblings of APC members in Sokoto State who accuses him of working against Northern interests may have lent credence to the letter. This letter being circulated among few northern elites as a ground for Jonathan’s re- election bid is gradually gaining acceptance in Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi axis. However, those opposed to Shagari’s views as expressed in the alleged letter pointed at the constant humiliation of the Sokoto born Speaker of Nigeria’s Parliament Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal by President Jonathan and the strong rumors that a Jonathan second tenure will dethrone Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar as the Sultan of Sokoto and replace him with the current NSA, Sambo Dasuki. However, APC Chieftains in Sokoto told the leadership of IMC that the elder statesman can never write such letter and that the vengeance in the said letter is not in line with the spirit of Islam. Shagari had earlier indicated his support for Jonathan in his forward to a book titled "Jonathan-A Photographic Rise to The Presidency’ being circulated among PDP faithful where he said that “I sincerely could never have imagined that in my life time, under constitutional rule, with a deep and broad mandate, a zoologist from Bayelsa, one of our youngest states, could rise to become Commander-in-Chief. “There is no better indicator that, while much remains to be achieved, our beloved Nigeria is slowly but surely maturing politically. Almost unwittingly, we are strengthening our democratic practice. And we must acknowledge and be thankful of the fact that Jonathan has taken it upon himself to diligently promote one Nigeria not only in words but in action.” Below is Shagari’s Alleged Letter to Muhammadu Buhari Causing Stir among Political Elites in Sokoto. My brother, you have contested the Presidential elections 3 times in this country and in all these times, you have never asked me or my people at Shagari village to support your bid. It is very obvious why you can't do that. You don't have the courage after what you did to me. You truncated democracy with a dastardly coup and took away power from me. You humiliated me and made me to suffer, and you took away my opportunity to RULE Nigeria. You said you do not want democracy in Nigeria. The same democracy you truncated, you are fighting hard to get with desperation and diabolical power. You have entered into unholy alliance with some known elements of disunity in the south but let me warn you. You will suffer hard in the hands of Tinubu and his political merchants who will use and dump you as they did to Nuhu. In 2011, you cried publicly when you lost election, and you made provocative and inciting statements that plunged this country into untoward unrest. You provoked our hot-blooded youths with war cries which erupted into post-election violence, that brought Boko Haram into existence, over 500 innocent Nigerians died instantly, most of them youth corpers deployed from one of the unifying agencies of this country. Personally, I do not have a problem with your ambition. It is your arrogance that bothers me. If you cannot summon the courage to ask me and my family to vote for you because you know we would not, why do you think Nigerians would look kindly on your past record of destroying a progressing democratic institutions painfully put in place by some respected fathers of this nations like Awolowo and Azikiwe. No my brother. It is time to wake up from your delusion and do the needful if you still have some conscience. I am not writing this to you with vengeance intention. I am a practicing Muslim and we leave matters of vengeance to Allah. I write to you as a Nigerian, your brother and a statesman who is deeply concerned. Quit the presidential race now and save this country from the dangling sword of Damocles being menacingly wield by the crooks that surround you. This elections is not about you or President Goodluck Jonathan. It is about the unity of Nigeria which can only be assured by being fair. By this I mean, being fair to the people of Niger Delta. We can only do this by either re-electing Goodluck or substitute him with any of his kinsmen from the South-South as that can only count fair for a people who are entitled to 8 years in the office of the President. For the elders council in the north, we have come to the conclusion to work towards realizing that fairness. 4 years more is not eternity. It is not too much of a concession for us to make to move Nigeria forward as one indivisible and united country under one God. May Allah open your mind to see reason. God bless Nigeria Alhaji Shehu Shagari (GCFR) |

So who should take the responsibility for ur actions, ehn, general? If as a leader u can't take responsibility for ur actions then it means u should go back to ur parlor in ur house in Daura, spread ur mat, sit on it in silence, then contemplate with hands on ur chin whether ur ready to start taking responsibility for ur actions as a leader. After that, come back in 2019, who knows I might consider voting for u then, if I see any TRANSFORMATIONs in u. While ur at it, consider attending one of those almajiri schools where u will be taught how to take responsibility for ur actions. |

I have tried to present a truly balanced position on this election and often times met with strong resistance not based on objective analysis but rather based on primordial sentiments and clearly misplaced CHANGE MANTRA. I will not dwell on those who based on religion, tribe and hopes of personal aggrandisement believe that a Change will personally benefit them. However, my focus is on those who genuinely believe that there is need for change without a proper analysis of the change initiative. Sometimes the least mentality tasking and the best place to be in a political setting is with the opposition and in the same vein it is also the worst place to be if and when that opposition did waste their opportunities to develop a viable alternative and offering for the people. We all like the David and Goliath scenario, the good winning over evil heroic story and often feel drawn to an emotional connection with the continue reading @ https://beaproduct./2015/02/04/the-doctrine-of-corruption-vs-stealing/ |

I thought the youths are the leaders of tomorrow, atleast that is what our past leaders (Gowon, Shehu Shagari, Gen. Mohamadu Buhari, Olusegun Obasanjo, etc) told us the youths. But what are some of them (like Gen. Mohamadu Buhari) still want as president, what does he still have to offer again? If these old leaders keep coming back, when are we as youths, the supposed leaders of tomorrow (which is now), going to lead? When are we going to take the future in our hands? Why do our past leaders even keep coming back, thereby, interrupting and intercepting our good future. If past leaders that were around during their youthful age kept interrupting and intercepting their future during their time as youths, would they have had the priviledge of leading when they were youths? Elders/senior citizens are supposed to be on the side, as states-men, advising/showing the youths in a country the way when they are going off course, not being in the hay with kids (youths) hussling/fighting for positions. I ask, why fight over what rightfully belongs to the youths? Why try to hijack our future out of personal/selfish interest and agenda? Every youth wants change indeed, but the change we desire is not the type of change that they are brandishing. We desire a change that will enable us to grasp the future with our two hands, not the change that wrests our future from our hands and give it to an old man who was amongst those that told us that the youths are the leaders of tomorrow. Where is their integrity then, if they tell us one thing and then turn around to do another? We, the youths have to wake from our slumber and say no to old leaders who keep raping us and our future. I implore every youth therefore, to say no to any candidate that's over 65-years. Say no to elders/senior citizens and those who feel that being president is their birth right and that they must always come back to rule, no matter what and at any age and time they desire. Say no to elders who keep brainwashing the youths that we are leaders of tomorrow but they won't let us achieve that idea. Be wise then, take the future in your hand and cast your votes wisely. Let us be the leaders of tomorrow INDEED not just in words because we're ready to walk the talk NOW. |
Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye has described the promise by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to build Airport in Ekiti State if it assumes power as “deceit taken too far.” He said; “The Ekiti Airport project was initiated in 2009 by the Yar’Adua government but frustrated by the APC government of Dr. Kayode Fayemi. Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola had said during the APC presidential campaign in Ado Ekiti on Saturday that an airport will be built in Ekiti State if General Mohammadu Buhari become president. However, in a statement made available to press men in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, Adeyeye said such a statement from Aregbesola was a pointer to the fact that the “APC people do not have any knowledge of issues they are boasting to resolve if they take over power”. He pointed out that; “As at 2010, terrain flight check for site selection had been done, site approval obtained from the Ministry of Aviation, perimeter land survey completed, meteorological data (i.e. Wind-Rose) already obtained from the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET), Form AC-001 had been collected for completion and submission to Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), guidance materials on the procedures to be followed for development and certification of airport and related technical and regulatory requirements to be met had been collected for necessary assessment; and materials needed for runway orientation and establishment of Obstacle Limitation Surfaces had virtually been concluded, Adeyeye said.” Continuing, the former governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP said; “Instead of Fayemi to collaborate with the Federal government on the airport project, he, out of political vendetta told the Federal government that airport was not the priority of the State. “On August 16, 2011, Fayemi was reported in the newspapers to have said that airport project was not his priority. “On August 20, 2011, a group, the Ekiti Justice Group (EJG) wrote an open letter to Governor Fayemi, begging him to show interest in the airport project but he ignored the plea then. “Isn’t it then hypocritical and deceitful for the APC to come to Ekiti to promise us airport that it rejected when the PDP federal government gave us? “The answer is simple. APC is a party of hypocrites and attention seekers, who always want to gain cheap political points. But on this airport project, they took their deceit too far and Nigerians must take note of this.”

# NIGERIANS , Only THREE YEARS AGO, the OGAS of APC, TINUBU, ELRUFAI AND MOMODU were CONDEMNING General Muhammadu Buhari! According to Tinubu in 2007, Buhari is a "Destabilization Agent and FAR WORSE THAN OBASANJO"! PROOF: http://www.politicaleco nomistng.com/tinubu-calls-buhari-ag …/; Momodu in 2011 said the Buhari is an "EX- COUP PLOTTER and NOT EVEN QUALIFIED TO VOTE"! PROOF: http://www.nigerianbest forum.com/ …/as-ex-coup-plotter-buha…/ Elrufai CONCURRED in 2011 and stated that "HE SHOULD RETIRE, IT IS TIME FOR A NEW GENERATION OF LEADERS"! PROOF: http://pointblanknews.com/ …/ buhari-has-nothing-to-offer-sh…/ NOW, they are SHOUTING his name THROUGHOUT # NIGERIA as if they REALLY BELIEVE that he will "change" our nation! WHAT CHANGED? Are BRIBES and PROMISES OF POLITICAL POSITIONS being OFFERED in EXCHANGE FOR mindlessly shouting "Sai Buhari"? Nigerians, KNOW that the members of APC are only concerned with HELPING THEMSELVES! THEY HAVE NO INTEREST IN OUR PEOPLE! ONLY PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN HAS THE INTEREST OF NIGERIANS AT HEART!

If General Buhari after being a former Military Sole Administrator of a State, Former Commissioner of Petroleum (the same as a Minister), Former GOC Jos Armoured Division, Former Maximum Military Dictator and Former PTF Executive Chairman (he got a commitment of non interference from Abacha) would claim he cannot pay his Abuja house rent, has only one million Naira in his bank account and borrowed money to buy his APC Presidential form, then he has to answer the following: In a Sun Newspaper interview of December 24, 2012, Buhari agreed that he had four houses: One duplex in Kaduna, one duplex in Daura, one duplex in Abuja and another duplex in Lagos but with the caveat that he borrowed money from his bank to build the houses. Okay Sir, how did you pay back the loans? What collateral did you use to secure the loans? Why go rent a duplex in ASOKORO when you own a house there? Who is staying in the house you own? I know the Federal government gives you cars as a former Head of State, gives you welfare packages for medical expenses and others annually and the sum is paid quarterly starting from 2005 when the total annual welfare budgeted was N140 million, 2006 - N105 million, 2008 - N24 million, 2010 - N250 million Naira (none was paid in 2007 & 2009) and from 2013 it was increased with each ex leader getting N23 million monthly. Now Sir, with all these money, how come you have only N1 million Naira in your account? Are you a spendthrift Sir? Why have you not open an investment or Foundation that will employ at least 20 Nigerians? Sir, you once said General Abacha never stole! Sir, do you define stealing along ethno- religious lines? The questions are plethora but your e- Voltrons can start answering these ones first. We will do it in stages. - Mike Odeholonta |
it is obvious that torres is chelsea's problem and the moment the management of chelsea realises this and make up their minds to sow him (torres) as a seed to any nigerian club (i.e if there's any nigerian club that will accept him), then and only then will they be back to winning ways. It seems that an article was written to Sister 2 Sister magazine by a Caucasian woman who requested a response from black men. I'm so glad she got what she asked for (and more) !!!This letter was written in response to an article in Sister 2 Sister: Dear Jamie: I'm sorry but I would like to challenge some of your Black male readers. I am a White female who is engaged to a Black male-good- looking, educated and loving. I just don't understand a lot of Black female's attitudes about our relationship. My man decided he wanted me because the pickings amongst Black women were slim to none. As he said they were either too fat, too loud, too mean, too argumentative, too needy, too materialistic or carrying too much excess baggage. Before I became engaged, whenever I went out I was constantly approached by Black men, willing to wine and dine me and give me the world. If Black women are so up in arms about us being with their men, why don't they look at themselves and make some changes. I am tired of the dirty looks I get and snide remarks when we're out in public. I would like to hear from some Black men about why we are so appealing and coveted by them. Bryant Gumbel just left his wife of 26 years for one of us. Charles Barkley, Scottie Pippen, the model Tyson Beckford, Montell Williams, Quincy Jones, James Earl Jones, Harry Belafonte, Sydney Poitier, Kofi Anan, Cuba Gooding Jr., Don Cornelius, Berry Gordy, Billy Blanks, Larry Fishburne, Wesley Snipes...I could go on and on. But, right now, I'm a little angry and that is why I wrote this so hurriedly. Don't be mad with us White women because so many of your men want us. Get your acts together and learn from us and we may lead you to treat your men better. If I'm wrong, Black men, let me know. Disgusted White Girl, Somewhere in VA. RESPONSE Dear Jamie: I would like to respond to the letter written by A Disgusted White Girl Let me start by saying that I am a 28-year old black man. I graduated from one of the most prestigious universities in Atlanta, Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management. I have a good job at a major corporation and have recently purchased a house. So, I consider myself to be among the ranks of successful black men. I will not use my precious time to slander white people. I just want to set the record straight of why black men date white women. Back in the day, one of the biggest reasons why black men dated white women was because they were considered easy. The black girls in my neighborhood were raised in the church. They were very strict about when they lost their virginity and who they lost it to. Because of our impatience to wait, brothers would look for someone who would give it up easy without too much hassle. So, they turned to the white girls. Nowadays, in my opinion, a lot of brothers date white women because they are docile and easy to control. A lot of black men, because of insecurities, fears, and overall weaknesses, have become intimidated by the strength of our black women. We are afraid that our woman will be more successful than us, make more money than us, drive nicer cars and own bigger houses. Because of this fear, many black men look for a more docile woman. Someone we can control. I have talked to numerous black men and they continuously comment on how easy it is to control and walk over their white women. I just want to set the record straight. I want A Disgusted White Girl to know that not all successful black men date white women. Brothers like Ahmad Rashad, Denzel Washington, Michael Jordan, Morris Chestnut, Will Smith, Blair Underwood, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Chris Rock all married strong! black women. And, to flip the scrip, there are numerous white men, in and out of the spot light, who openly or secretly desire black women over white women. Ted Danson, Robert DeNiro, and David Bowie to name a few. I just don't want a disgusted white girl to be misinformed. Stop thinking that because you are white that you are some type of goddess. Remember, when black Egyptian Queens like Hatsepshut and Nitorcris were ruling Dynasties and armies of men in Egypt, you were over in the caves of Europe eating raw meat and beating each other over the head with clubs. Read your history! It was the black woman that taught you how to cook and season your food. It was the black woman that taught you how to raise your children. It was black women who were breast feeding and raising your babies during slavery. It is the black woman that had to endure watching their fathers, husbands, and children beaten, killed, and thrown in jail. Black women were born with two strikes against them: being! black and being a woman. And, through all this, Still They Rise! It is because of the black women's strength, elegance, power, love and beauty that I could never date anyone except my black Queen. It is not just the outer beauty that captivates and draws me to them. It is not the fact that they come in all shapes, sizes, colors and shades that I love them. Their inner beauty is what I find most appealing about black women. Their strong spirit, loving and nurturing souls, their integrity, their ability to overcome great obstacles, their willingness to stand for what they believe in, and their determination to succeed and reach their highest potential while enduring great pain and suffering is why I have fallen in love with black women. I honestly believe that your anger is geared more toward jealousy and envy more so than snotty looks. If this were not so, then why do you continuously go to tanning salons to darken your skin? If you are so proud to be white, then why don't you jus! t be happy with your pale skin? Why do you continue to inject your lips, hips, and breasts with unnatural and dangerous substances so you can look fuller and more voluptuous? I think that your anger is really a result of you wanting to have what the black woman has. BOTTOM LINE: If I were looking for a docile woman, someone I can walk over and control, I would give you a call. But, unfortunately, I am looking for a Virtuous woman. Someone that can be a good wife and mother to my children. Someone who can be my best friend and understands my struggles. I am looking for a soul mate. I am looking for a sister and; unfortunately, you do not and CANNOT fit the bill. No offense taken, none given. Signed, Black Royalty Wow!! we must pass this on to make the day of the Black Queens of our acquaintances! |

After what happened to the Youth Corps members on their way to Taraba state for a national assignment caused by the FRSC, one begins to wonder if they are not themselves (FRSC) constituting nuisance on our roads. Their modus operandi is something else. On Agbor-Asaba express road in Delta state, precisely their command in Issele-Uku, the men and officers of the FRSC on that road have safety as the last thing on their mind. From the way they carry out their UNsafety activities one can be so sure that they are out to cause havoc on the road. I will try to relay one or two of their activities. Sometimes in other to forcefully stop a vehicle, you see them drive either their ambulance bus or their pick-up van right across the road not minding that the oncoming vehicle they are trying to stop can have any form of system malfunction or that the driver may at that particular time loose control of his/her vehicle and there will be a very bad accident that may lead to a pile-up of more accidents because the vehicles behind the one they are trying to stop may not know what is going on and may also get involved, thereby causing a massive pile-up. FRSC Issele-uku be warned because what you do there is to extort money from road users not necessarily to keep the road safe, which is your primary responsibility. If peradventure what happened to the Youth Corps members on their way to Taraba state happens in Issele-uku, I'm sure the FRSC will as usual blame it on the road users and not on their incompetence to duty. How trained are the officers of FRSC on road safety? The police are off the road, now the FRSC think it is their turn to cash in on the situation to start extorting money from motorist. FRSC is to keep the road safe not to make as dangerous as they are making it out to be. We are watching! Nairalanders please contribute on this issue by letting us know what your take is and what the situation with FRSC in your area is. Are you satisfied with the way they carry out their operation? |

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has alerted Nigerians to surreptitious and dangerous moves to silence one of its leaders, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The party alleged that the plot was aimed at stopping the progressive train that is blazing its way through the South-west in particular and the nation in general. In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the two-pronged plan being hatched by some agents of evil involved using the EFCC to intimidate and put away the undisputed champion of progressive politics as well as trying to compromise his security to expose his life to danger like the late Bola Ige. It said the recent, justifiable reverses suffered by those who had arrested the nation’s progress through their brand of politics, which involved massive vote rigging and perpetration of violence under the theme of ‘do-or-die politics, had scared them into seeking unorthodox ways to stop the man who, through legal recourse instead of self help, was behind the successes. “We are aware that President Goodluck Jonathan, who hitherto has resisted every pressure to use his office to influence the judiciary in favour of his party, has been under tremendous pressure to in turn put pressure on the EFCC Chairman to frame Asiwaju under spurious charges to put him out of circulation, thus empowering those who know they cannot win free and fair elections ahead of the 2011 polls. “The proponents of this plan argue that former President Olusegun Obasanjo successfully used the EFCC to hound his perceived opponents and to ruin their chances just before the 2007 general election, thus paving the way for his party to have a field day in ruining the polls and awarding victories to those caught its fancy. “If President Jonathan continues to allow himself to be guided by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which he has pledged to uphold and defend, then those putting pressure on him have also mapped out a fallback position under which they intend to infiltrate Asiwaju’s security and expose his life to mortal danger,’’ ACN said. The party warned, however, that Nigerians were very discerning and would easily recognise when an innocent man is being framed for political reasons. “The days of anarchy, when innocent people were slammed with spurious charges to satisfy the egotistic penchant of a megalomaniac, are gone,’’ it said. On the attempt to compromise Asiwaju’s security, ACN warned it would fail, especially now that such devilish plans had been exposed. “The life of any human being, including Asiwaju’s, is in the hands of God. As we have always warned, human life is so sacred that no one should do anything to take it. That has been and remains our stand,’’ the party said. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2010/dec/06/national-06-12-2010-001.htm |

The story of late Mr. Semiu Opeyemi from Osun State, is not only agonising but mysterious. Opeyemi had worked very hard to become a Business Administration graduate from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State. Determined to make it in life and to put in practice the knowledge he acquired as a Business Administration graduate, he took up a job as a manager with Waterview Hotel, Ojuoro Phase 1, Ajaguro Ikorodu in Lagos State. It was learnt that the 29-year-old Opeyemi, a bachelor, worked assiduously as the hotel’s manager to the extent that many people assumed that he was the proprietor. PUNCH METRO learnt that he displayed sound service delivery, accountability and business acumen, and those attributes endeared him to both the customers and the hotel owner, Mr. Eweolaru Adejare. But last Wednesday, Opeyemi drowned in a river near the hotel in a mysterious circumstances. The deceased was said to have formed the habit of paddling a canoe across the other side of a nearby river to defecate. On the fateful day, he was said to have cleared some grasses around the hotel to ensure its cleanliness and later boarded a canoe to defecate as usual. However, after a while, the canoe was seen floating without Opeyemi, raising curiosity and fear among other canoe operators. The canoe operators were said to have raised the alarm and people began to search for Opeyemi. After many unsuccessful efforts to locate his body, some Ijaw divers from nearby areas were invited to be part of the search party. It was learnt that many hours after the combined team of divers could still not found Opeyemi, the Ijaw divers later asked for some bottles of local gin and some alligator pepper, with which they appeased the river. After chanting some incantations, Opeyemi‘s corpse was said to have been found at a spot where he knelt down in the river. It was learnt that the divers were stunned by the position they met Opeyemi and this attracted more incantations and sacrifices before his corpse was retrieved from the river under police guidance. The hotel owner, Adejare said, ”People, who were here, when he was working testified that he paddled one of the canoes to defecate. After some time, some other canoe operators came and asked people in the area where Opeyemi was. Those people said they did not see anybody there. They called his mobile phone. It rang repeatedly here; obviously he left it at the hotel. “After some hours, a search party was conducted and they later discovered that he was drowned in the river. They made statement to the nearest police station and the police came for investigation. That was what happened.” Opeyemi‘s friend, Mr. David Odusanya, said his late friend had formed the habit of paddling a canoe to the other side of the river to defecate. Odusanya said, “Opeyemi had formed the habit of going there to defecate. Many people that saw him taught he could swim, but surprisingly, they found an empty canoe. We have many toilets here. The manager (Opeyemi) had his own toilet but he was also free to use any of the toilets. He was my close friend. “It is only God that knows when one will die. He has other relatives. They came here and supervised the burial. He died on Wednesday and was buried on Thursday. When somebody dies in a river, he would be buried by the river side. This is the tradition of the Yoruba.” The Baale of Ajaguro Ikorodu, Chief Sikiru Okikia-Ade, advised people to avoid risks and be cautious. Okikia-Ade said, “Even though someone casts a spell on you, you have to be careful. Going to the river to defecate is not good. I urge the youth not to take such risk. This should serve as a deterrent to others. “I do not know anything about him kneeling on the river bed, but I know that anybody that dies in the river would be buried beside the river and ritual must be performed to avoid a recurrence. If ritual is not done and the dead person is buried beside the river, such a thing will recur. That is Yoruba’s belief and it has been happening. The ritual is to prevent a recurrence “They came to me as the Baale that they wanted to perform the ritual. As the custodian of our tradition, I told them that if they did not do it, I would not allow them to bury him. I also told them to get enabling documents for his burial” The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, said the command was aware of the incident, adding that investigations into Opeyemi’s death had begun. http://www.punchontheweb.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art20101117372251 |
New Super Eagles Coach, Samson Siasia, has said he will need at least three years to rebuild the team into a formidable force. Siasia will take over the Eagles on December 1 on a four-year contract and with the country yet to win a major honour since 1994, the former international striker has admitted he faces a tough task in his bid to improve the fortune of the former African champions. “It is going to take two, three years for us to assemble a formidable team,” Siasia told MTNFootball.com in an interview. “It should be a gradual process, trying to build a new team with the old and the new players. Gradually we will mix them up until we find the ones who we need, actually the ones who would play the way we want them to play. That time I would come out and say publicly we have a team. “But right now we just want to focus on how to rebuild the team. Yes, the Nigeria Football Federation could set targets, but if we want to be realistic, targets won’t be realistic, if you don’t have a good team, “he added. http://www.punchontheweb.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art2010111716321195 |
Half-way into her father’s speech during his public declaration of intention to seek his party’s nomination as presidential candidate in next year’s election, Aisha, senior daughter of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, slumped on the podium. The wife of Zamfara State Governor Mahmoud Shinkafi stood behind her father on the podium before the incident. Mrs Shinkafi had arrived at the venue in a black Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) with a golden insignia on its number plate. She spotted a green flowing Ankara material with the picture of her father embedded in white circles. She had on a black silk head-tie. She waved excitedly at the crowd, flashing acknowledging smiles as the audience greeted her arrival with a rousing applause. But as her father read his speech entitled: "Together we shall build a great and prosperous Nigerian nation," she slumped. But for the vigilance and swift reaction of those behind her, including her sister, Halimat and security personnel, she would have fallen badly on the podium. Mrs Shinkafi was immediately surrounded by security personnel and aides to the former president who quickly provided her with a white plastic chair. They fanned her vigorously with pamphlets on which the programme of event was printed. Aisha was subsequently given some water. Security men shielded her from public glare. Most people missed the incident as they were fixated on the former President who was reading his speech. Only those at home who might have been watching the programme live on television would have had an inkling of the incident. It was also not clear if her father was aware of the incident as he continued his speech without a break. |

Sources at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) say the agency plans to arrest and try the deposed governor of Delta State and his deputy, Professor Amos Utuama, for money laundering and financial crimes relating to the looting of Delta state under the regime of James Ibori governor between 1999 -2007.
Uduaghan was removed from office yesterday via a ruling of the Elections Petitions Court of Appeal in Benin which nullified his flawed April 2007 election as governor. Uduaghan, who is a cousin of Ibori, was the secretary to the Delta state government during the intervening period. His name has featured prominently in the ongoing trial of Ibori's estranged wife, Theresa Nkoyo at the Southwark Crown Court in London. Prof. Utuama's name has also featured prominently in the money laundering activities of Ibori. During his tenure as Ibori's Attorney General, Utuama’s Prime Chambers account at Zenith Bank in Nigeria was generously used to transfer funds that helped spread bribes to a variety of lawyers and judges. Though Mr. Uduaghan and Utuama have been involved in cases of corruption involving the Iboris, they enjoyed legal immunity from persecution on account of their positions as governor and deputy governor. They took advantage of those positions to help Ibori to seize and manage his own trial as he pleased. Together, they set up a kangaroo Federal High Court in Asaba which was paid for, staffed and kitted by the Delta State government. It was no surprise when that court, last year, threw out 170 counts of money laundering charges against Ibori. The EFCC appealed the case and mounted fresh legal challenges against Ibori and his cronies. But the Delta State government funded militants to prevent the arrest of Ibori by the EFCC and the police until Ibori was safely ferreted out of Nigeria to Dubai where he was eventually arrested by the London Metropolitan police with the aid of Interpol and the Dubai police. Ibori now faces extradition to the UK to face trial for money laundering. He has so far stalled his extradition by launching an appeal against a high court ruling which granted his extradition to London. If the EFCC successfully begins the prosecution of Uduaghan and Utuama, the duo will have a hard time rejoining the gubernatorial race that will be taking place in the next 90 days, as ordered by the court yesterday. It would also mean that Ibori will face serious financial hurdles in resisting his extradition to London, in view of the fact that Uduaghan and Utuama have consistently used Delta State funds to support Ibori's extravagant lifestyle as well as his legal bills in Dubai. http://www.saharareporters.com/news-page/efcc-set-try-emmanuel-uduaghan-and-former-deputy-governor-prof-utuama-money-laundering |
@ishit4body I think you got me wrong, leaving him there is not right just as not punishing him for getting there illegally. There's no double talk here. |
Can we really say this is justice, after being gov'nor for almost 4yrs? Is something not wrong with our electoral laws and to think no punishment is meted out, what a country?! |
The Court of Appeal in Benin on Tuesday nullified the election of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan as the governor of Delta State. In its judgment in an appeal by Chief Great Ogboru of the Democratic Peoples Party, the appellate court directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a fresh governorship election in the state within 90 days. It also ordered the Speaker of the state house of assembly, Mr Sam Obi, to act as the governor, pending the conduct of the fresh election. The governorship poll is likely to be the first major test of the Prof. Attahiru Jega-led INEC. In a unanimous judgment read by Justice Monica Murktar, the court said, “After looking at the submissions of counsel to both parties and the submission by INEC counsel, it was obvious that the election was characterised by a lot of irregularities. “There were a lot of election malpractices by the umpire in favour of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party which placed undue advantage on him and his party to the detriment of other contestants in the election.” The Court of Appeal in Benin on Tuesday nullified the election of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan as the governor of Delta State.
