A Nigerian, Yinka Samuel, defeated a host of other candidates to clinch the post of Secretary General of African Fencing Confederation. This is indeed a victory for West Africa as the sport has been largely dominated by Northern African countries as well as Senegal. Yinka Samuel is also the president of Nigeria Fencing Federation, an enthusiast of the sport who has won medals in international competitions. The position of the president was clinched by Mbagnick Ndiaye, a Senegalese minister and also an enthusiast of the sport. This is the first major victory for Nigeria in fencing internationally.
