PRESS RELEASE
ABIODUN PROSCRIBES COALITION OF TAI  SOLARIN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION STAFF (COTAS)
The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has proscribed the activities of the Coalition of Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu Ijebu (COTAS) and warned its leaders to eschew activities capable of undermining the return of full activities in the institution.
The Governor warned that he would not hesitate to hand any lecturer or staff to the law enforcement agents for engaging in any “the unwholesome activities” linked to COTAS.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta by Kunle Somorin, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, said COTAS was an illegal body and its existence constituted a negative clog in the actualisation of the mandate of the State pioneer tertiary institution.
“These activities are clearly at variance with the objective for setting up the College. We cannot afford allow COTAS to continue to delay the return of full academic and administrative activities”, the statement said.
The Governor added that “both COTAS and the New COTAS are not known to law and stands proscribed.”
Gov. Abiodun said the Coalition and New COTAS have been disturbing the peaceful activities of the institution, thereby negating the achievement of the recommendations of a Visitation Panel set up by the Government to restore academic activities at the College.
The Governor frowned at the way and manner COTAS has been conducting its activities. According to him: “This Administration takes exception to the breach of law and order, combative harassment of the Management of COTAS”, the statement said.
The statement said any act of brigandage by staff of the College under any guise would be treated as a criminal act punishable under the law.
The Government, the statement concluded, “is keenly monitoring the developments in the institution and would make further pronouncement as appropriate in due course.
