Nope. There are no restrictions that I am aware off.
The only restriction I know is bussing. if you live too close or too far away from the school, you won't qualify for bussing. Aside that, no once cares if you decide to drive your kids from a location 1hour away.

I think most often comes down to demand and supply, when I lived in Calgary, some Catholic school expects that one of the parents has to be a Catholic before kids can be offered admissions. Here in Saskatoon or the city I lived before that, no one cares.
There are also lots of schools to cater for students. Like in my area, there are like 4 elementary schools and they are all within 15 minutes drive of each other. So most grades are often one class as well. e.g. one grade 3 class in a school will have only maybe like 25 kids.
