Raalsalghul:

Start with SQL (Over 95 per cent of Data Analyst roles require this skill). There are many RDBMS you can use to learn but MySQL is the most common.

Then learn Excel with emphasis on (Look-up and Statistics functions, referencing, conditional formatting, power query for cleaning data, pivot tables for summarizing data, power pivot for modelling and then DAX).

Followed by PowerBI or Tableau: you'll use these tools to visualize the results of your SQL queries. I personally prefer PowerBI as it's more robust in function.

People mention Python a lot, but I've seen many Data Analyst vacancies excluding it in their requirements (emphasis on "Data Analyst"wink). Nonetheless you can add it to your skill set if you want to go the Data Science Route or just for personal development purposes. Learn the basics first and then move on its libraries: Numpy, Pandas, Matplotlib and Seaborn. There's also the Scikit learn library for its machine learning capabilities.

If you can master the first 3, you're job ready: then scale up your knowledge from there.

Good Afternoon sir/ma, Thanks for this masterpiece really helpful.

My name is Taylor, a First Class final year student of the university of Lagos currently studying Finance.

Due to covid, Also falling sick twice during my final papers this year, next year will be my sixth year on campus.

I sincerely developed a soft spot for data analysis from the very first day i came across this thread in 2019. I love dealing with numbers trust me.

I love statistics and econometrics a lot but my major problem is getting a mentor and networking with fellow beginners or aspirants to strongly kick start my data analysis career (maybe because i am an introvert lol).

Actually, i have made some progress by kick starting with Excel according to what most professionals here recommended and it has been fun all the way.

I always believe to make learning process easier, faster and interesting for beginners trying to explore a new field. There is a need to have a mentor and network with like minds (beginners) in the field also.

Sadly, i had to put a stop learning Excel due to personal reasons but i am fully back. I will be glad if you or any other professionals on this great platform will be willing to mentor me on the required materials and videos that will be helpful to aid the learning process.

My WhatsApp contact is 08160271832. I am also willing to meet and network with new aspirants also. If you are a serious aspirant also, please don't hesitate to do add up or if there is any group chat for aspirants please kindly add me up too.

God bless you all.
